Jesus man. The same right here. No kids my woman just left me and but this acting really gets u to understand what it would feel like to lose those u love. Amazing by Adam. Inevitable to cry.
Like when Steve did that Foxcatcher movie and the person he portrayed was quite creepy and unsettling and can’t forget Robin Williams he killed it in dramatic roles like One Hour Photo and Awakenings which those two were his best work
Comedy actors can delve into dramatic roles quite easily, as comedy is harder than drama. People think it's such an anomaly or unusual ability. It's far more difficult for a dramatic actor to switch to comedy.
This film does a great job showing the emotional damage and trauma caused on people who lost family members or friends from the 9/11 terrorist attacks.. There’s so many films that cover the day the attack happened, but not so many films about how people deal with the loss of loved ones years later from the attack. This film does a great job at that and showing that even years after losing someone you loved, how it can effect you long term.
I couldn't agree more, this movie really strikes a cord, and Adam nails it. Nobody really understands why this happens to people otherwise we wouldn't have to live with this illness.
Not a film about 9/11 its about sudden grief, 9/11 was just a vehicle used as most people know about its suddenness. Come on man, there's more out there than 9/11
@@tallpaul7130 You didn't listen to what was said, did you? Very few moments in this world are still remembered and replayed as heavily as that day. It's in his words, going inside and watching his family die over and over on TV. Feeling the fear that came and feeling like you're meeting the same end they met. Reliving it year after year after year as the entire country remembers it and grieves thousands of people lost of which his family was just a few droplets in that number for many. Most people don't lose their family in this manner. A "sudden loss" doesn't even begin to describe losing a loved one in an event which was the worst tragedy our country has faced via terrorist attack. Even losing their family to the tower collapse isn't the same as losing them on the planes theirselves.
At least one entire family was wiped out. Peter and Sue Kim Hanson, along with their 2 year old daughter Christine, were aboard United 175. They were visiting relatives and taking their little girl to Disneyland.@@N..P..
Yes I didn't think about that. If you had family on those planes then yes the second you saw a tv you would see the moment of their death replayed a thousand times
The fact that there are actual people that experinced this and are going through exactly what Adams character is going through ( even after all these years) is what really kills me.
This is one of the best serious performances ever. Love Sandler's portrayal here, so real and raw. His pain is immeasurably deep and seeping out of his pores. Brilliantly well acted and it's too bad people sleep on this movie.
Adam deserved at least an Academy Award nomination for this. He was definitely robbed. How he knew how to do this scene I do not know, but coming from experience I can assure you he got it right. My husband and I thank you, Adam. Laughter and crying are pretty good medicine for broken hearted parents. You're a hoot, Adam. Thanks.
There’s nothing quite like grief. It’s like a body temperature, hot/cold. Doesn’t matter, it’s always something you are dealing with even you don’t even know it
Apart from Sandler’s masterclass I also love Cheadle’s performance here. Says but one sentence to him because he knows he needs to leave him to it. Such sadness in his eyes and great acting in his expression. No dialogue but so moving.
This scene made me cry so bad and the movie made me cry twice. Not many movies make me do that so that's an accomplishment. This movie touched me and Every actor involved in its production contributed into making it seem real, including Adam and Don!! Such a great movie!
Sandler’s character regresses back to the early 80’s when he was a young undergraduate rocking out to Springsteen & The Who - when life wasn’t burdened with abject tragedy. Sometimes PTSD is so emotionally overwhelming & devastating that one’s human psyche has no other choice but to shut down & hibernate in the cocoon of nostalgia. Bravissimo, Adam! Brilliant performance! You nailed it!!
My fiance died in my arms 2 years ago. This scene really hits home with me. Sandler portrays the broken soul so tactfully. As well as the frustrations of therapy on both sides of the couch. I've rewatched this film twice this year. Absolutely incredible
How he tells it so full of emotion but yet, super tenderly. As to not use a tone of anger describing his family all the way to what happened to them. Truly a heart and gut wrenching scene.
Imagine completing your last semester of college so excited to tell your parents to get ready to celebrate only to get a phone call an hour before we were able to call them to be informed that they were Murderd.
Reminds of me Ron Goldman & Nicole Brown's families getting a phone call from the Coroners office that their son, daughter have been murdered. Ron's father said he screamed when his wife passed him the message only to have them call Kim Ron's sister to tell her the same. My God. All he was trying to do was deliver Nicole's moms glasses to her and it cost him his life. 🙏
This movie hit me so hard at the theater that I definitely cried a lil bit. While me and my friend saw this, my other friend saw "Dead Silence" because he said "its an Adam Sandler movie thats not supposed to be a comedy...why would I ever be dumb enough to see that!?"...I met him after and said..."you should have been dumb enough to see it, oh and it was also funnier than a lot of his recent movies"
This is brilliant acting! I respect that you may not think the same, but to say it's horrible without any explanation is just insane. He manages to really release the tension of his character and deliver the reason for his condition in a magnificent way. I haven't seen many actors, even the most celebrated actors, do the same thing. The film is amazing, acting is amazing and Adam Sandler's performance is insanely good
It comes as no surprise to me that some of the most comically talented actors give amazing dramatic performances because most great comedians live with a crushing sadness inside them. It’s the way of the world, really. The yin yang symbol teaches us that everything needs a balance. So for all the light someone brings to the world there has to be an equal amount of darkness to meet it, and comedians bring an endless amount of joy and laughter to us which means that the darkness they face must be overwhelming; to the point where their darkness eventually kills them.
I know, I had to chuckle. Then the way Charlie explains what “faggot” means…that’s exactly what it meant. I know it sounds ignorant now, but back in the day it was truly only offensive if you were gay.
When he didn’t want to discuss his issue with that psychiatrist sometimes you don’t need a psychiatrist to discuss your issues all you need is a friend who understands you cause that’s what friends do be there for one another
I watched this film, and felt terrible for him, now this is literally happening to me in my real life and I’m losing my will to live. I’m lost and alone is a Black storm of darkness.
Keep up the good fight, friend. We all got to go eventually, so stay strong with the time we got. Honour their memory by striving to be the good person you were when you had them. I hope this can help. Truly sorry for your loss.

Because he makes tons of money and gets to go on vacation doing his "job" -- and he makes them pretty darn awful because the writing is easy and directing it is easier, he's on vacation after all. And he casts his friends because then his friends get to go on vacation with him. Serious roles even for middling actors require taking on the role you're playing a little. It's beautiful cinema but it's not hard to see why he'd rather be on a tropical island doing a funny voice of a stupid, half-baked character with Kevin James vs. channeling one of the most distraught characters to ever be on a screen.

Things like this are part of the reason MLP:FiM is so popular. A loss of innocence. Before 2001 we all were just living in our fantasy world, imagining that everything, no matter how horrible it is, was separated from us, that we were in our perfect world. MLP makes us remember that innocence. Anyone who was at that age, where they were a kid, but past grade school so they knew the importance, can feel for that line. "I saw it, and I felt it". That feeling was the loss of our innocence.
Great and powerful scene, and surprising how few people know about what many of us might consider Adam Sandler's best performance. Don Cheadle making fun of Falcon adds an unintentional level of comedy after he went on to play Rhodey/War Machine and fought against and alongside Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe though. Ha.
Say what you want about Sandler’s dumb fun comedies (I love them) but he can fucking act. He does those films to support his friends and have a great time making films. This movie, and a small handful of others, shows he can fucking act. Shame on anyone who just says he makes dumb movies and generalizes him like that.
I'm single. No kids, wife, nothing. But Sandler was able to convey what having your entire life being ripped away from you is like. Underrated film.

Adam Sandler looking like Bob Dylan. Love this movie!

Imagine if there was as much empathy for widows and orphans created by US government in the Middle East as there is for characters such as these.
Say what you want about Sandler’s dumb fun comedies (I love them) but he can fucking act. He does those films to support his friends and have a great time making films. This movie, and a small handful of others, shows he can fucking act. Shame on anyone who just says he makes dumb movies and generalizes him like that.
Now that I think about it, the soloist is kind of like this.
Gran escena...la cancion de bruce de fondo lo deja a uno con un nudo en la garganta...extraordinario...grande adam sandler..!!!
