- Testing out the ECHO PAS-280 with the edger attachment. I'm excited to finally try out a stick edger and see how it compares to using a line trimmer or walk-behind edger, like the McLane. I apologize for the wind noise that you hear occasionally throughout the video.

THANKS FOR WATCHING AND SUPPORTING MY CHANNEL!!
Well this is now 5yrs later and the 280 PAS has been discontinued and replaced by the 2620 PAS series X. It runs all 16 attachments which the 280 couldn't including the curved shaft edger which can now be used with the 2620. I honestly don't know the difference between the straight and curved edger attachment never using the straight, however I think the curved shaft works better for me along the street curbs and less trouble on my back. The 2620 powerhead is actually the 2620t with the higher torque allowing for more power especially if you add the pro torque weed trimmer attachment to achieve even more cutting power in tough tall grass or weeds. At 25.4 CC this pro power head will truly get the job done quicker and the bonus of using all 16 attachments is just the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure many people 5 yrs ago thought how powerful the 280 was vrs the 225 and 266 models and that was true back then, but the 2620 is absolutely a beast from medium to tough jobs and if you want more raw power the 3020U and 3120 X series with over a 30CC powerhead will tackle any job no matter how challenging. They always say cheaper isn't always better, however the cost of Sthil truly eats the wallet while Echo proves us wrong, that sometimes cheaper can be better.
Have an earlier version of this for the past 15 yrs. Runs strong. Love the edger and trimmer attachments. Rebuilt carb once is all I have done.
That's great to hear! I use ECHO Red Armor oil in mine and it keeps them going strong.
Finally used my Echo straight shaft edger attachment on my PAS 280. I am a prosumer of sorts and have a big yard. I was delayed because I had to get a number of sprinklers away from the concrete edges. My wife points out this free edger as part of the PAS280 promotion has gotten expensive😳
This attachment takes a bit of practice but does a nice job. I found a full face shield better protection as sparks and small rocks do fly depending on your soil and cutting depth. I think this edger blade will come in handy for grass that tends to grow up and over the concrete edges. The bag of hooks is for storage and is very handy for hanging the attachments. I have two attachments. A stringer cutter and this edger. Overall I am please with my new Echo PAS2620 system. This is my second Echo trimmer in 15 years.
Nice, I'm sure you'll get 15+ years out of this trimmer. I also like the articulating hedge trimmer attachment in the PAS series.
Seems to work much better than the Stihl. The blade seems to move much faster allowing for a quicker cut.
Thanks for posting. I haven't compared it to the Stihl stick edger yet.
question, why did he recommend the straight shaft and not the curved?? I know why they would be better, cause of the shaft less wear. But there is about $50 price difference, and it also would seem to put the head higher. The other lawn guys, like myself, I see them use the curved shaft.
I don't recall the exact reason, maybe it's personal preference. I haven't tried the curved shaft on an edger yet, but I'm happy with my straight shaft edger.
I realize this video is several years ago but I was wondering about the difference in the PAS-280 and PAS-2620.
I do know that the straight edger can be used on either but is not recommended for the 225 and some others probably due to torque?? Thanks
I never heard why ECHO discontinued the 28cc PAS-280 and offered the 2620. I know the 2620 has plenty of power still. Yes, the 225 is probably a little light on torque.
Great video.
Thanks, Del!
Can this be used to give a clean cut to landscaping?
Echo makes a bed redefiner for cleaning up the landscape beds. The edger is intended for sidewalks and very limited for additional landscaping work.
Nice property!
Thanks!
Is the pas system the same height as a dedicated system
To the best of my knowledge, yes. My PAS edger seems to be the correct height.
Quick question. does it brings the weed trimmer n the edger included?
You have to buy the power head and each attachment separate. For instance, the trimmer head is separate from the edger.
Does that edger attachment fit other trimmers? looks like standard size.
That's a good question. As far as I know, it only fits ECHO.
@@MarkThomasBuilder ...hum if that's the case then..too bad since it is the only straight shaft edger attachment on this planet. I hate my curved shaft, they are imbalanced and heavy. not sure why moron companies insist on making curved shaft junk when they see that professional tools always straight shaft.
I haven't tried a curved shaft edger. There must be some type of demand for them if all the other companies are making them. This one works great, fyi.
I just bought this but for whatever reason it’s not working. Engine runs fine and revs up well, but the attachment won’t turn. I’ve tried with two separate attachments. Don’t know why it won’t work any thoughts?
The first thing I can think of is the warm-up time. I've noticed that some ECHO items need to run for 1-2 minutes, just idling. Try that and see what happens.
Thanks for the quick response! Tried it out and still nothing. The thing is it’ll turn maybe for 5 sec then nothing and the engine runs higher. Think the best thing to do is take it to the echo dealer. Thanks for the help!
I'm curious what the dealer says. Please update me when you get a chance.
When I bought it, it was out of box. The dealer said where the drive line connects to the edger part was broken. They got me a new one and it’s working like a charm. Thanks again for the help!
Is it bad if you walk backwards with this attachment? It didn't want to go forward good with me today so I went backwards.
You may need to adjust the angle that you hold it just a bit. I always go forward using mine.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I tried many different angels but it could have been just the hard clay this house had on the side of their sidewalk.
Can I use that accessory for the battery trimmer?
Sorry, I'm not sure on that.
markthomasbuilder Can You use the pro torque trimmer attachment on the PAS 280 and and PAS 225
I has pas 225 and the manual says 93 octane and you said 89 octane...i talked with a dealer and he says" i believe" u can run 87 89 90 93 etc... and says echo recommends 93 because of ready fuel can they sell in store thats more money....??? Is can u run 87 89 90 93 with red armor 50 to 1 and still be good with performance and maintenance aspect without hurting motor...
I was on a conference call with ECHO and their head Red Armor person was explaining the product and how to use it in as part of the Red Armor Challenge promotion. I asked him specifically what octane to use and he said 89. That might be the best octane to run on older equipment. When I mix it for my new ECHO equipment, I still use 89 and it works just fine. I'll have to read the owner manual and see what the latest recommendation is in my new X Series trimmer.
So if i run 90 non ethanol gas with red armor oil im good to go ...im curious what your manual says
I just looked it up and it says to use 89 octane.
From actual manual or internet info
I looked online for the manual and it's directly from ECHO... www.echo-usa.com/getattachment/01d6d118-09a4-42f1-9e3f-cdc4eb2433d0/SRM-2620es_1415_012616
There is a warning about fuel with too much ethanol. Check out pg.23
Jesus loves you all!
Happy Easter
you need to get the golden edge for it you will love it
Thanks, I'll have to check that out!
Made me wanna shoot some hoops!
Awesome!👊
Apologizes for wind noise - LMAO! YOU'RE IN MICHIGAN!
Haha, that's true! I've upgraded my mic since then.
I lived all over Michigan on and off for 15 years. They converted the county where my family is into a giant wind farm. 😉
I wished Echo would send me stuff
They're a great company, great outdoor power equipment.
An edger with a longer handle is better on the back. You won't have to lean over as much.
I'm a little taller, so I wouldn't mind it a little longer. This edger seems to be a standard length, based on the other models I've tested.
Anddddd you lost me at 2 stroke. I hate fighting the carbs on those.
Would you consider battery power?
You're to tall for that weedeater you need to get a handle extension to save your back.
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to give one a try.
Stick to building. Not a very thorough review for free tools! Stihl should ask for their equipment back.
You wast our time talking
Got it, more action, less talking next time.
No reason to be rude! Nobody made you watch the video
