This attachment is well worth the money....I used mine fir the first time last week, for about 6hrs, on and off. Beds had not been redefined for 3 seasons and were in need. Ran thru both heavy and dry soils......the drier (to a point) the better, but works in heavy soil also...just takes more time.

I love this tool! I love it so much I am going to buy another! This tool is great for tilling as well! Awesome tool! I have the PAS-2620 power head and with this tool here in Michigan I have had no issues with ether making new from sod like condition's or cleaning up old! someone was watching me redefine over grown beds and was as impressed as I was of the before and after result. sure it was on the expensive side, but it was quick and easy to use. This is why I am going to buy two more as a back up!

Just bought the PAS. You're exactly right. I tried using it on some dry compacted soil. No go. It basically just bounced along the surface. Glad I bought it as a powerhead and attachment. I can still use it with other attachments. Nice review👍

All these ppl “nope I’ll use my shovel” “nope I’ll do it how I’ve done it for yearS”... that’s because you ain’t banging out 2-3 landscape jobs a day alone.. this thing takes a 1 hour hand edge to a 10 min edge and then u weed whip the edge to clean it and done.

Spot on review! We've had this for years now and like you said, in the right conditions its great but if its a little on the wet side it clogs up and just stalls out. I will agree 10000% about shin guards lol, many, many bruises from this thing. On beds we've done for years that just need a touch up we actually go forward but needs to be in open areas because it sprays dirt/mud everywhere (going forward). I like it because it saves a ton of time and beds don't creep out every year but I'll be honest, we're not ECHO fans any more, no matter what fuel and fuel additive we use they always start running like crap after a season or two. We run Sthil now with the same type fuel etc. and zero issues since switching over. A little trick I do is I make 3 passes with it and the 2nd pass I turn the re definer at an angle towards the bed then the 3rd pass gets another inch or so deeper then we just take a blower and blow out the edges.

Since I made my defined beds I am using this unit forward and it works excellent. Walking backwards is a pain in the but. Note by going forward you must be sure the flap is in good condition .

This tool is for cleaning up (re-defining) existing bed edges. Not for creating new ones. The problem I have with it is that when you are trying to use this in the early spring before applying mulch, the ground is often wet from spring rains. This tool does not like moist soil. It will gum up and stall, and you get very frustrated cleaning it out a zillion times. But if the soil is in the right condition (not too wet & not too dry) you can edge beds very quickly.

the name of the tool is bed redefiner, it is to "redefine" an already existing bed. an as he says, the soil has to be perfect in texture and moisture for this to work exceptionally well. installing the stihl blade seems to work better with wetter soil conditions. I have this tool with the 2620 power head and there just is not enough power to pull it, the 3020 power head does much better.

Save your money and go with stihl! When it comes to attachment there the best! Bed redifiner is really good as well as the pole saw and power sweeper!

I have a Stihl km111r with the bed redefiner. It works pretty damn good when used as a redefiner. I tried to make a new edge with it and it didn’t work as well but it still got the job done.

Thank you for this video. I own the PAS from Echo and would like to maybe get this redefiner attachment. I live in Florida so rocky soil is not a bug problem. Without revealing too much of your pricing, what would you get for redefining a plant beg?

  • @jameshalleron7484
    @jameshalleron7484 Рік тому

Does it make any sense to just buy the blade and shroud if available and install it onto your existing edge trimmer attachment? That cost is a bit high for the attachment or dedicated unit.

Were you using it to cut a fresh edge when it was hitting the rocks? Because I tried that with both Stihl and Echo. The dealer would say "Its a Re-definer not a definer."

Great job on the review! I have this unit as well and was highly disappointed at first due to this unit throwing rocks. It made it difficult to use around vehicles and houses (windows). I was able to construct a shield out of 11 gauge sheet metal, as well as adding a rubber flap over the constructed shield. I also attached a rubber flap in the front of the unit as well. It makes this tool less susceptible to future insurance claims. If you still plan on using this on your client's properties I would highly recommend you do the same. Overall it has made me money I must add.

Thanks for the idea man. When I was at the Echo headquarters I asked if there was anything they plan on changing on the BRD-280 and they did say they are making changes to the shield but that's it. They didn't give me a release date on it either so we will see how that will work.

Thank you for this review. I've been heehawing on the pas 280 with bed redefiner. I loved to video quality and narration. Compared to the spade and foot technique I'd say it is light years ahead and it looks better than the edger with the bevel that I use. I have to go through the bed twice. First, vertical then at a 45. After that I have to remove the soil so that I have the groove you get on one pass with the bed redefiner. I'm a fan of both echo and stihl and it will be interesting to see the stihl version
    Thanks for posting!

Paul Biel I have this product and it really doesn't work well. you still have to come back with a shovel and basically 'Re do it as it isn't deep enough and you still have to cleanup the edge and taper it more into the bed

Ambro's Landscaping Inc. How do you accomplish such high quality videos? Do you utilize film school students or hire someone to film, edit, overdub and upload for you? We are planning on launching our own channel as I personally have over 43 years experience in the Landscaping and Lawn Care industry. I'm always willing to learn new skills and techniques. Any help is appreciated. God Bless and be safe out there.

A mediocre tool that makes a mediocre edge for the mediocre generation. Why would you want to make such a small grove in the lawn and call it an edge? My edges go down and away from the lawn for at least 6 inches then they start to slope up. This way I can pile a load of bark in that space.
