I love It... I just wonder why every youtuber seems to assume that every pokemon game happens in close temporal proximity, yet everything i know about swsh tells me they happen nearly 100 years after x&y
Some personal theories/headcanons: - Wally in SM: he's built different. Maybe he just looks younger? - Mina in LGPE: Could still work in a linear timeline if she's older than 20 in Gen 7, i.e. she hasn't given up her post for some reason? Idk
i mean considering Valerie's lack of aging is explained by her being a fairy type specialist, it could very well be likely that Mina has pulled some tricks with her own appearance to appear younger.
I love hearing the lore of the fossil pokemon especially. Your pokemon Tempest fan region was such an inspiration, so now I am working on a Jurassic Park pokemon fan region here on UA-cam so I can work on fossil pokemon designs.
I love this timeline! Especially the closed loop between BDSP and Arceus I think Drayden’s quote of not having poke balls as a kid might be due to then gen 1-5 games being in the non mega evolution timeline. Since red and blue is set in 1990’s Japan where the first pokedex is meant to be completed by Red and Blue and Professor Oak wasn’t able to do as a child. Given their similar age I imagine pokéballs were a new invention around professor Oak’s time as a trainer but after Drayden. I also believe due to the infinity energy incident caused by the weapon as alluded to by Zinnia in the delta episode, this caused a timeline split to occur: 1. Original gens 1-5 with no fairy type or advanced battle mechanics 2. Mega evolution timeline including fairy type, Z moves and D-Max 3. Let’s go timeline as red blue and green (looking as they do in original gen 1 and the manga) did their journey 3 years prior to player character making their pokedexes on paper as opposed to a pokedex, and mega evolution, fairy type and Fairy trial captain being younger as they’re on an alternate timeline and different order of events
Im not sure if this matters but could Draydon's quote not mean that pokéballs weren't mass produced so therefore it cost much more to buy one. This is consistant with new inventions in our history., such as televisions. But that's my guess. Or they were just fairly new as aforementioned in the video.
I agree except for Let's Go being on a separate timeline; there is no other Kanto game in the Mega Timeline and the events of LEt's Go fit into the Mega Timeline if we assume they are a much earlier point of it compared to Sun and Moon. There is no conflict of events that I can see with Let's Go being one of if not the earliest game in the Mega Timeline.
12:25 The Burned (formerly Brass) tower was struck by lightning, according to the games, and subsequently burned before being extinguished by a sudden downpour. The three Pokemon that perished in the event were reborn by Ho-Oh, and were thought to be named after what happened. The Burned Tower page on Bulbapedia states that this event occurred about 150 years prior to the timeline of GSC (so approximately 550 years after their construction). Morty's ancestors were said to have worshipped the legendary Pokemon at the top of the towers.
Beat me to the punch on that. It did also said that when the three Pokémon died in the tower, Ho-Oh revived them as representations of that event. Raikou represents the lightning that stuck the tower, Entei represents the fire that burned the tower, and Suicune represents the rain/storm that put out the flames.
I always love listening to anything timeline/history of types of videos. They're really easy to put on in the background whilst working on other things
29:00 Hi Toby! The timelines are fun, but it's also easy to think things line up more closely than they do. Two things can happen in 1996 and still happen 10 months apart. And people will say, "That happened 3,000 years ago." for decades if not longer. So, for example, it's possible AZ's weapon woke up Eternatus... or they could have happened years or decades apart. The Darkest Day could have even been earlier. But beyond just the vagaries of time itself, I can't see any flaws in your timeline off the top of my head.
What i find interesting is that during the darkest day, the sky is obscured as if by a shield. What if eternatus blocked the shot from the ancient weapon, and that's why there are no megas in Galar? That would mean Galar might have been the target for the target all along. Now we just have to find a reason why a region based on France didn't get along with one based on the UK.
We get Spain as next Generation, and, when UK and France clash (makes sense though the history in RW) happened 3k Yrs ago, I think, it was around 3000 - 2900 BC. Then the U.Weapon incident happened. But back to my theory. We get maybe Germany as Gen 10 or 11 due the historical contexts of the new gens. (Expect Alola) Gen 6's Farthest East point is btw Somewhere between Saarbrücken and Rehlingen-Siersburg when we lay Kalos over France. I even will wild guessing and say that the Omega Cave gets in Gen 10 a passage for Kalos and the German region. Would make perfectly sense, since historical thsese regions changed a lot the assignments. What also can be happen would be a Saarland based Region. Big enough is it. Technically it's so much possible, even that I may scratch the surface. I really want a Pokémon which is settled in a theme like the TES and/or The Witcher series (Middle age). Ah, Hisui's timeline doesn't fit to 1800. I even say it's 1600 - 1700. But you forget 4 games: Pokémon Ranger 1-3 and Pokémon Conquest. (Conquest is easy, since the Generals are from the せんほく(Sengoku)-Time. And for the main Char from that game, I guess it's either Oichis lover, or a Pokémonized version of either SWC 1 or 3's Protagonists (atleast Male).
Addition: Even more things can happened which we never know. After all, I think, that even the Pokédex is older as from RBGG (Gen 1) mentioned. So or so, ORAS happened at almost exactly same time as RSE (alteast the Delta Ep.) but they maybe say there things which says for me that we have here a Hoenn from a parallel universe. That would explain u.a. the wormhole theory for Wally. Sun and Moon have one more Evidence to BW, which may say they happen around 2014. One of the Æther employees mentiones something with rescuing Pokémon and other things which sounds similar to either N's Plasma while BW, or N's Plasma while BW2. Then would make sense that the E4 from Unova was according the Artbook 2 yrs ago in the E4.
And as a end: I rather prefer to scale the timeline with the development start of the games - then some texts or other oddities makes sense then. And the porygon texts.... They make no sense - 20 yrs, and we know, that Gen 1 is older as just 1996. The old Hotel in Prismania City is a evidence when really Pokémon would happen - around 1985 or 1986 maybe.

Out of curiosity, do you think we'll get more installments of the Legends games? There's so many mysteries in the past that these games could fill out. Like what DID destroy the towers of Ho-oh and Lugia?
I think it would be dumb if they didn't in my personal opinion. But it could just be a one off like Let's Go was. There are rumors that they was to return to Johto. But that could be either Let's Go or Legends. If it is a Legends game however, I think they would have to include Kanto as well because Johto/Kanto alone are way too small to have a Legend's game for.
@@iceman3317 to be fair it doesn’t even have to take place in the far past for Kanto. Lt. Surge kept talking about ‘the war’. They could easily set up Legends as games with more mature stories for the older Pokémon fans. 29:10 Another amazing video Toby! been watching for years and it never ceases to amaze me how much effort and thought you put into your videos. You rock, keep up the amazing content 😄
Hello there, Toby. 28:54 I like the idea that we have 'naturally made' and 'artificially made' Pokéballs, with Kurt practising traditional techniques and young Prof Oak having a sort of analogue mechanical one and then finally we have the modern-day digital Pokéball. Some regions had traditional ones early on before advancements in communication made the world 'smaller'. Other places got the more modern ones when it was a factory-made product able to be mass-produced and marketable. With only explorers, the rich and nobility having seen the pre-existing traditional counterparts.
One of my favorite instances of pokemon continuity is in Black and White fighting Cynthia. It no longer refers to her as "Pokemon Champion" but "Pokemon Trainer" Cynthia, meaning that Dawn/Lucas are the champions at that point.
It also could be possible that because your sent back in time with a cell phone in legends it would explain why technology there has rapidly progressed as opposed to our timeline. As we see with them using portals
I absolutely love timeline videos and I love looking at Pokémon lore and how different things the NPC’s say connect to one another across different games it’s so interesting especially as a longtime fan I love seeing connections and call backs
It's one of my favorite parts of doing research into the Pokémon games! The thrill of stumbling across easy-to-miss details strewn about the games is a feeling I'll never get tired of lol
I think you nailed it, but I think it might be at least 3 timelines at work with the games. Also, considering that ultra wormholes is a thing and ultra sun and ultra moon is supposedly a different dimension/timeline, it's fair to add more timelines to fix more issues I would think.
29 mins! I love video game lore and like figuring out mythologies, especially when their not fully laid out in the media itself. Gives room for theories, ideas, and head-canon that everyone can enjoy in their own ways!
I am really enjoying this timeline! I just wanted to point out however that Legends Arceus takes place in the meiji period of Japanese history, which was between 1868 and 1912. This would place LA no later than about 158 years on the timeline rather than 300. I hope I'm not coming off as discouraging of your work, I'm just really into history, especially the 1800s haha
Yeah, I was really confused where "300 years" came from as well. I'm also confused as to where "100 years ago" came from for the burned tower, as it's stated it was 150 years before GSC, which take place very shortly after RBG. Brass tower burned around the same time as the events of PLA.
I love the lore of the pokemon world, so thank you for all the effort you put into making these videos. I always took Drayden's comment about not having pokeballs as a kid as something HE did not have, not that they would not exist in the entire world per se. I mean, how big is the world view of a kid?
29:08 Just hit the end card. I love how much thought the two of you put into this! I can’t wait to see if S/V match up, or if (theory time - spoiler warning) they’ll be set at different times from *each other*, one in the primal past and the other in the technological future.
Fantastic video! :) I disagree about the placement of ORAS and Let's Go because I find the evidence for them occurring later in the timeline much more compelling. But I love all the research put into this video. Leave no stone unturned, haha! :)
As I am late to the party this is probably going to be buried but is a small theory I have made after noticing how the timeline of Professor Rowan's trip to Kanto and certain events at the time lineup. Rowan travels to Kanto 4 years prior to D/P/Pt/BD/SP which either takes place 1 year before RGBY/FRLG or during this time. Rowan studies the evolution of Pokemon. One might wonder why he left Sinnoh the place where Arceus is for Kanto. Lookong at the tineline this would coincide with the creation of Porygon/Mewtwo. It is my belief that Rowan went to Kanto because he heard about the creation of an artificial Pokemon and wanted to study thks creature to find out how it fits into the theory of Pokemon evolution. So there you go a small theory but one that I feel makes sense.
The thoroughness you bring to all of your videos is always so impressive! Great work parsing out the timeline! And Toby, based on that 3000 years ago disappearance comment, I think we need to do a follow up to that Melmetal theory, because you gave me a brain blast! ✨
Long time viewer, first time comment, at around 29:00 minutes as per your request. Seriously love tour content! Definitely among the S class of Poketubers. Can't wait to see you continue to do all of the great work you've built up over the last several years.
I dont really care about pokemon, i watched the first couple of seasons back in the late 90s when i was a freshmen in high school and I have never played a single game other than dabbling with pkgo since it came out. I however found your telling of all of this interesting enough to sit through a 30 min video. I commend you for having a passion about something and finding happiness in it, you may find as you get older that this is a rare thing and you should treasure it. I hope you find this message in good health and happiness and keep on rocking in the free world...doot doo da loot doo...
I figured the reason Wally was so young still was because his main pokemon gardevoir(now known as a fairy type) probably used its fairy abilities to keep Wally young.
Thank you so much for making this!!! This helps make sense of things. Thank you for all the hard work, and for the awesome collaboration with Ramnus. :) Take care!
28:32 I just defeated team rocket in let’s go eevee while watching/listening to the vid. Appreciate you and you’re “manic nature” feels like at any point your background is gonna have clip art and strings all leading to the middle of something lmao
I love these kind of videos Toby, where you go into so much detail of things and explain them here. It only shows how deep the history of the games behind this franchise really goes.
29:00 love your videos Toby you're an absolute beast and I'm looking forward to putting up the newest tree of evolution next to my old one when you're done.
I think the incident with Spiritomb should be on the timeline, only because it's mentioned multiple times and takes place roughly 200 (or 300) years before Legends Arceus. If Kabuto is included, other notable events should really be too, plus... There's the Mega evolution factor that wasn't addressed, which more than likey spawned a separate timeline because of the launch of the Ultimate weapon.
29:32 You’re one of my favorite Poketubers! I always look forward to your videos-especially theory videos-because they’re well-researched and topnotch!!!
The first like 15 min of Pokemon : Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. Is still the most fascinating Pokemon lore I’ve seen that has not even been mentioned since
Another great theory video tobey thanks for spear heading and documenting this pokemon universe information in a much more fun and easy way to understand 👌
Just wow, I begun to write a pokemon rpg with world building around last Halloween and your time line helped me very much thx ^^. I'm a big fan of your evolution tree and all you theories.
Fourth time watching through. A very Thonky video! Fantastic editing format and very digestible! I can feel my Thonk power growing exponentially as my poke knowledge is refined.
29:16 In Regards to the Alternate Universe stuff that you mentioned for LGP/E and BDSP All alternate versions of a region are in parallel universes. Platinum is different universe to Brilliant Diamond, which is alternate universe to Pearl and so on. But the games between regions could each be theoretically in the same universe, or theoretically all different (LGP/E Must be individual universe tho, as per NPC references to Red saving the region in Johto games, where he didn't do that in this universe, he just went on his journey) Red could be in the same universe as Crystal, as Emerald, and Brilliant Diamond, and Black, as Y as Ultra Moon, as Sword for example. or potentially all individual universes. You touched on this with the Ultimate Weapon/ Darkest day stuff saying, in some universes its one or the the other, in some universes its neither, or it could be both. and that is the beauty of a multiverse like this, it ALL works. A lot of people try to state that the pre gen 6 games are in a "non mega" universe, but it still potentially works they could be in the universe, just have ME ONLY occur in Kalos as stated in the games, and Zinnia is just referring to an unplayable universe where ME never exists at all. AMAZING video I absolutely loved it and well done! I watched all the way through and loved every second of it!!!
I liked everything Although I have to say DPPT has to be in 99 as well. Remember at the beginning of those games they’re talking about a red gyrados and we know there’s only been one of those in the series around that time
29:14 is Legends a loop? If we consider different universes interacting, then how it started is unknown. It would still keep happening from Legends to bdsp, but the initial event would be different, like a ripple in water it keeps going until another one changes it.
29:00 hey mate. Cheers for the video, I loved it. About to search your channel to see if there’s any updates with scarlet and violet being well into release now. I also wonder if you cover the brand new anime because, as someone who loved the original when I was a kid, I love this new show without Ash, as an adult 🤣 Thanks again for your hard work!
lol you put the 26 over bw2 and the 28 over bw when you said the opposite xD Great Timeline! (especially the bdsp arceus loop i enjoyed that) P.S. 29:32 😉
I appreciate that there are people who care about timelines. Makes me want to focus on developing a universe and it’s fun to see

I like the idea that we have 'naturally made' and 'artificially made' Pokéballs, with Kurt practising traditional techniques and young Prof Oak having a sort of analogue mechanical one and then finally we have the modern-day digital Pokéball.
Some regions had traditional ones early on before advancements in communication made the world 'smaller'. Other places got the more modern ones when it was a factory-made product able to be mass-produced and marketable.
With only explorers, the rich and nobility having seen the pre-existing traditional counterparts.
Begging y'all to at least *recognize* the theory that Wally is just short. He was a chronically ill child, that can easily affect someone's height!
Ahahah it’s possible :’)
The 300 years ago comes from the first reveal trailer for pla if I remember correctly.
Thoroughly enjoyed this. You and Ramnus explained this very well and it made for a very entertaining video!
I love the lore of the pokemon world, so thank you for all the effort you put into making these videos. I always took Drayden's comment about not having pokeballs as a kid as something HE did not have, not that they would not exist in the entire world per se. I mean, how big is the world view of a kid?
29:32 This is insane, well done Toby and Ramnus, great theory and really complete ^^
29:08 Just hit the end card. I love how much thought the two of you put into this! I can’t wait to see if S/V match up, or if (theory time - spoiler warning)
they’ll be set at different times from *each other*, one in the primal past and the other in the technological future.
Ty ty ^_^ I’m not sure aboht that but fun to think about
i doubt it bc of Nemona
@@BirdKeeperToby yeah, I thought it was kinda Farfetch’d, but I thought it would be fun to bring up nonetheless
Thank you very much! I'm very excited to find out how SV might fit into our framework!
29:03 *Luigi deep voice* "Hello Toby"
Fantastic video! :) I disagree about the placement of ORAS and Let's Go because I find the evidence for them occurring later in the timeline much more compelling. But I love all the research put into this video. Leave no stone unturned, haha! :)
29:32
Thanks for doing this! I've always been fascinated by the Pokémon timelines and multiverse.
I really appreciate this, I'm crafting a DND style campaign and this has given me a lot of info I've needed
The time code is 29:30 and I have watched it all at x1 speed for that quality content
29:08 Well done sir, a very comprehensive lesson on the history of this beloved world!
29:01
I love the timeliness and I think this is one of the most concise ones I've seen
Very well done
I appreciate videos like this. Have always been curious about the timeline of Pokémon but never really did a deep dive into it
As I am late to the party this is probably going to be buried but is a small theory I have made after noticing how the timeline of Professor Rowan's trip to Kanto and certain events at the time lineup.
As a big pokemon fan, idk how I haven't found your channel, until now. Definitely subscribed!
Gamefreak: let's ignore the timelines
Pokemon Fans: How about we focus on timelines
1:55 Hello, fellow certain type of person!
29 mins. Love your stuff, Toby! Always look forward to your videos!!
Until I watched your videos I had no idea how to fit the all of the vast majority of pokemon in one timeline. you are a genius!
This is the kind of video that brought me here, and the reason I stay around. Thanks, Toby!
Anytime ^_^
29:29 truly thorough and well down video. phenomenal job
29:15. Love the easy to understand time line. It was super fun to watch.
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that this was easy to understand because it certainly wasn't easy working all this out in certain places lol
The thoroughness you bring to all of your videos is always so impressive! Great work parsing out the timeline!
And Toby, based on that 3000 years ago disappearance comment, I think we need to do a follow up to that Melmetal theory, because you gave me a brain blast! ✨
29:03 really good video Toby keep it up
Long time viewer, first time comment, at around 29:00 minutes as per your request.
29:00
I'm definitely looking forward to what may come! Thank you for the great content and fly high Bird Keeper!
dealing with pokemon you and logstin are the main ones i watch for pokemon history and this kind of information background of pokemon, keep it up.
29:00. Love your vids. Thanks for all you do! Keep on keepin on!
Thank you so much for making this!!! This helps make sense of things. Thank you for all the hard work, and for the awesome collaboration with Ramnus. :) Take care!
BKT: The pokemon timeline is confusing
Fnaf timeline: Am I a joke to you
28:32 I just defeated team rocket in let’s go eevee while watching/listening to the vid.
Pokemon world tournament isn't canon. It's like a what if fan service tournament
I love how you highlight major events! Keep up the timeline tracing!
Amazing video, keep it up
29:32 You’re one of my favorite Poketubers! I always look forward to your videos-especially theory videos-because they’re well-researched and topnotch!!!
29:02 your videos help keep me awake at work I enjoy all of them. I am usually late to the party tho
LOVED the video from start to finish! This is so my kind of Pokemon thing!
The first like 15 min of Pokemon : Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. Is still the most fascinating Pokemon lore I’ve seen that has not even been mentioned since
29:02 hey!! Great video dude!
Tremendous Effort Here. Good Job!
Another great theory video tobey thanks for spear heading and documenting this pokemon universe information in a much more fun and easy way to understand 👌
Just shy of 30 minutes Toby, thank you very much for another amazing video!
I love deep dives into lore like this-thanks for the vid!
the part at the end about bdsp looping back to legends totally blew my mind i love it!!
First video of yours I watched, and I instantly subscribed. I greatly enjoyed this timeline. Superbly interesting
Just wow, I begun to write a pokemon rpg with world building around last Halloween and your time line helped me very much thx ^^. I'm a big fan of your evolution tree and all you theories.
29:20 is where I am at and I love this! Thank you Toby.
Fourth time watching through. A very Thonky video! Fantastic editing format and very digestible! I can feel my Thonk power growing exponentially as my poke knowledge is refined.
29:16
In Regards to the Alternate Universe stuff that you mentioned for LGP/E and BDSP
All alternate versions of a region are in parallel universes.
Platinum is different universe to Brilliant Diamond, which is alternate universe to Pearl and so on.
But the games between regions could each be theoretically in the same universe, or theoretically all different
(LGP/E Must be individual universe tho, as per NPC references to Red saving the region in Johto games, where he didn't do that in this universe, he just went on his journey)
Red could be in the same universe as Crystal, as Emerald, and Brilliant Diamond, and Black, as Y as Ultra Moon, as Sword for example.
or potentially all individual universes.
Remember at the beginning of those games they’re talking about a red gyrados and we know there’s only been one of those in the series around that time
This beyond comprehensive. Fantastic job!!
28:50 this was a great video, can't wait to see more in the future
This was pretty darn cool, I must say. The collab was neat as well.
29:14 is Legends a loop? If we consider different universes interacting, then how it started is unknown. It would still keep happening from Legends to bdsp, but the initial event would be different, like a ripple in water it keeps going until another one changes it.
Great video I watched your first timeline vid and it was good also I really enjoy these type of vids I’ll watch an even longer one anytime
Evolution Tree, the World Map, and the Timeline. These are my favourite series on this channel
Also 29:00 hi Toby
Amazing video! Watched the whole thing on my actual tv!
29:00 hey mate. Cheers for the video, I loved it. About to search your channel to see if there’s any updates with scarlet and violet being well into release now.
I also wonder if you cover the brand new anime because, as someone who loved the original when I was a kid, I love this new show without Ash, as an adult 🤣
Thanks again for your hard work!
Oh! This is my type of video! Absolutely beautiful honestly =O
:3
Glad to have found your account. Loving your content!
lol you put the 26 over bw2 and the 28 over bw when you said the opposite xD Great Timeline! (especially the bdsp arceus loop i enjoyed that) P.S. 29:32 😉
