Can't help but get massive CLS Coupe vibes from the rear!
very much Alex!
at 1: 55 some at hyundai thought that they should a boring 2000s front and weld it to mercedes cls
I was thinking Porche 911 in the rear
I got Porsche 911 (996) vibes from the rear. Perhaps I should get my eyes checked 😜
yea a CLS and a beetle dune buggy had a ugly baby called iONiQ 6
I love the fact that Hyundai is still willing to take big risks with its designs, one of the few established car brands seemingly still to do so, and the work they've put in to increasing sustainability is nice to see. After checking out the Ioniq 6, I think this will be my next car (and my first Hyundai).
Thanks for the in depth look! Appreciate it.
This looks like so many concept cars that NEVER get made, but this time they actually DID make it.
I love the look of it, Hyundai and Kia both doing great things right now. The rear gives me old school Porsche 911 vibes
I was thinking the same thing!
Maybe I was expecting too much after that concept they showed, but for me it is such a let down in the exterior
Porsche 911 with Down syndrome maybe
@@sneaky_krait7271 well obviously that huge led rear panel would be impossible to pull off for a production car
It’s that duckbill style spoiler that really makes the rear look like a 911!
The IONIQ 6 is looking awesome. I like the way they made use of the 4 dots to indicate the battery level. Pretty handy.
Btw Rory, the 4 dots on the steering wheel actually do represent Hyundai because in Morse Code, 4 dots represent a ‘H’ and that stands for Hyundai. 😉
Ha, ha - To me four dots means my finger got stuck on my keybord typing "period".
I love this design! Gives strong Porsche 911 vibes and makes me a bit nostalgic. Of all companies, I didn't expect Hyundai to be the one to make me excited about the electric car revolution. Now, the question is: will we see "N" performance variants with cool new colours and bodylines, and of course an unlocked computer pushing 600hp? I hope so.
Absolutely beautiful vehicle. I'm glad to see the EV market FINALLY being taken seriously by the big manufacturers.
a
A
It should kick the arse of other manufacturers into gear.
Great job Hyundai. Hope this encourages their friends at Genesis to do better than the GV60 when they release their version.
Are you joking? It looks absolutely hideous.
Hyundai is looking at what the other manufacturers are doing and asking, why do we do it that way? Why is that the norm? And then doing the opposite. If they’re bold enough to step so far away from normal design, it can only make you excited for what they have yet to come.
In a time where old school companies are making boring electric cars, regardless of whether you like this design, can’t we get behind someone who’s trying to make the space more interesting?
Nah I’m pretty sure it’s 2 or 3 unrelated cars mixed together.
They’re looking at other manufacturers and asking, what can we copy? What design ideas can we steal? Let’s copy Porsche rear, Tesla front, EQS side profile. Love it!
A great Regardless of that, they are doing an amazing job, bringing excitement in the EV industry, that has been SO boring in the last 10 years. Tesla design included, all look the same.
It looks like a Chinese rip off of Porsche 964.
Horrible indeed
@@agreatd Every car today is pretty much a mix of other cars last decade.
Stunning! I can almost see a modern take on a Citroen DS in the lines. Especially the way the roofline and underside taper towards the back!
First time seeing your reviews. Love your style and pace of the video. Will definitely be looking for reviews done by you.
Holy smokes this is impressively designed. 😮
OMG, Hyundai. Really nailed it, never thought this brand will surpass big traditional car brands like a Toyota, Audi, Mercedes’, BMW. With Ionia 5 , they broke the ceiling and won’t stop there, what a exciting brand they became!
Vw too
Im a big fan but they didn't surpass them yet
Carlos Leon is a matter of opinion, indeed, but the Audi E Tron is a bummer, Mercedes EV a disappointment, BMW EV is ugly. Hence my opinion. Cheers
AKMAN 699 Yes, VW too!
Hyundai is on fire
What a nice looking and inspired design. Thank you H for not making it look anything like the last generation of your cars. While they were "ok" they were somehow both dated and unnecessarily space-age. This Ioniq has some very sensual lines and is classy. And, Rory, this was possibly the finest car review I have ever seen, as you were wonderfully positive, concise, knowledgeable, and very personable as you described and compared the features and the vehicle itself. Well done, sir. I will look for your other reviews in the future.
Love the exterior design. The interior is a step up from the Ionic5, very cohesive.
Have any other manufacturer come as far in terms of desirability in such a short time as Hyundai? I remember the awful 80s & 90s Hyundai Pony and Stellar, then the mundane Accent from only 20 years ago. Absolute transformation!
Because they got the Europeans to heal out.
I agree. They have come a long way. I have owned and driven Hyundai and Kia vehicles since the mid-'80s. 😉
also samsung and lg healed hyundai, im sure hyundai will become fast mover by korean it companies
I’ve been a fan of Hyundai ever since owning a 6th generation Sonata. Great car, great design.
Man, it looks horrible and pile of stealing ideas from other manufacturers.
Imagine BMW releases such shit. Everyone will roasted it off.
One of the best looking cars i have seen in a long time. Refreshing to see a company not conforming to the "sheep" mentality of making the same old plastic box that everyone else makes.
I'm really loving the new Hyundai's 👍👍 This one has a hint of the old classics. More than a hint of Citroen DS & Sabb 900 Turbo. Love it!! Ionic 5 reminds me of the Lancia Delta. Again, love it 👍👍
Also looks like an updated version of citroen c6
That is one seriously cool looking car. Hyundai and Kia seem to be setting the design standards that others must follow when it comes to EVs. There is nothing quite like them and they are bold in the design to make their mark and I'd expect they will see that rewarded in the show rooms
MICHAEL COLE: I totally agree. When a new design is released that is very different from current trends, it is always in danger of looking odd or quirky. Hyundai in particular seem to be able to release clean, fresh, new designs that are very desirable, and difficult to fault.
I totally agree. However, at least to me, Hyundai has the tendency to butcher the beautiful design when they do a mid-cycle update.
looks really ugly. The rear end looks like an MKZ's rear
It looks like a Chinese rip off of Porsche 964.
Horrible, nonprportional, and ugly
People will like this because they know it will be cheap. It’s weird looking, front doesn’t match the rear. It’s like they mashed an EQS with a porsche and not in a good way
Am i the only one who thinks the rear looks very 1980's 911 Porsche ?
You're not the only one, it really does!
The rear haunches and belt line in general makes me think of Citroën DS.
Yes 🤔😂
Nope, it was my first thought
I have been a big critic of Hyundai styling recently with all their creases and LED bars but this car is absolutely gorgeous. Well done.
Woah! Possibly my next car!
Puts me in mind of the old school Citroen saloons from the 70's with those interesting lines. Really like this offering from Hyundai.
Every year, the hyundai brand comes across with incredibly beautiful, sympathetic cars with beautiful designs. I personally like their designs, this time the model has a sweet-looking design with very soft lines. Also, as in the ioniq 5, the front design reminds the of the old Tuscani models.
R.I.P the Tuscani. That was one of my favourite cars growing up ngl
Every year, Hyundai group steal a new design from different manufacturers
@@hassanger8128 every creation since the dawn of time is stolen
@@hassanger8128 just say you hate hyundai lol
Yeh every since the 6th gen Sonata, they have been pushing design limits and it has worked out most times!!
I've never commented on car videos, but I gotta say, nice presentation dude, no stutters, informing, nice camera angles.
Excellent presentation, I learned so much! Thanks
I quite like the design. The back reminds me of an old SAAB. Very nice.
I miss Saab. Imagine if they were still around
It’s literally a copy of Mercedes CLS
@@Youcallthesebagels_ I don't agree. This slopes in a different way and has way different details and overlaps.
I thought SAAB as well. Such a good non agressive design
Yes, I can see why you'd say SAAB, it has the jelly mould design with the window mounted spoiler (shelf) like SAAB famously had on the 900 Turbo.
Looks 10 times better then the model 3 inside out. I'm going to try and put my hand on one here in 🇨🇦.
Definitely not
@@chidorirasenganz yes for majority.
The model 3 design is a lot more simpler and time proof.
Looks can only do so much. Hyundai still has a long way to go in terms of efficiency and tech.
It looks like a Chinese rip off of Porsche 964.
Horrible indeed
Love your review, it was very detailed and informative. Like your style, thank you.
Thanks for the review and providing clear distinctions between the 5 and the 6. God bless.
Absolutely crazy what they did here. Really reminds me of Japanese cars in the way they did things very different and a little weird in design and function. This is exactly what the modern car world needs. Great car and great direction the company is taking. Love it!
who design this??? i mean....how?? it's just too damn good. The retrofuturism, the details, the paint, the interior. Feels like it belong in a dystopian high-tech cyberpunk movies. It's so clean, neat, and minimalistic but not too minimalistic. It's just spot on
Retrofuturism. Perfect description. Feels both classic retro and futuristuc sleek.
Every time I see Hyundai come up with a new car I remember the trips I took with my father to a car dealer to look at the Stellar, a car that borrowed technique from Mitsubishi. I don't know why, but despite the budget name it had back in the day, I was really charmed by what they did as a new-ish brand on the market! And they always kept my interest awake to culminate in what they are doing now as Hyundai/KIA!
Thanks for this video.
Underneath the steering wheel there is something like a paddle shifter, please clarify.
When you shown the rear spoiler lights going through there start up process, it reminded me of the Robot talking on the old Lost In Space program - excellent!!!
Hyundai & Kia continue to smash it on design. Unlike the "melted mouse" look of the Mercedes EQS... The Ioniq 6 does it better and for way less money. If only Hyundai / Kia could double their production rates, they could reduce their waiting times. As people would definitely want to buy this. 👍
There are so many pretty cars you can't buy. Ioniq 5 was made in miserable amounts and I'm sure the 6 will have even less made. I suspect they are losing money on each car made. I don't like the inside much and shame about the floating console, but I do like moving the window controls to the centre console. That's a great idea. I HATE the LEDs in the steering wheel for battery charge, why would you put something right in front of my face that will stress me out!!!
Beautiful car from the outside, I hope we'll actually see them on our roads.
Phillip.
@@philliptemple9841 My major issue with the Ioniq 5 was the choice of colours... and the fact that they advertised the shit out of it and produced ferk all. 2023 will be the performance model... Maybe they will make as many as 10 per country... 🤣😂. Annoying... Still interested to see the Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 7 in the flesh.
@@mikadavies660 I have to admit I prefer the Ioniq 5 in the photos to real life. Reverse of the "pregnant Mustang", which I don't like in the photos but the MachE actually looks a bit better in the flesh. The new Kia is very smart. I thought it best to do due diligence before buying a Tesla Model 3. It's the first car I bought new and it's a lot of money! I had to wait 3 months delivery but at least I could buy one, unlike the others.
I think the Ioniq 6 will look pretty from the outside, a bit plain but smart on the inside, and the only place you will ever see it is inside a dealers.
Phillip.
Loving it. Having owned six Teslas so far, this is the first hint of real competition for the 3 and Y, in my view. Mercedes, Porsche and maybe Lucid have provided alternatives to the Tesla Model S, but not head-to-head competition. I think many people will cross shop this car with the smaller Teslas.
The looks of the Ioniq 6 are striking. 30 years or so ago I had a 911, and the roof to rear lines of this car really do a great job reprising that vibe. I also see some early '70s Z-car (Datsun, now Nissan) influence in some of the front angles.
I predict huge success for this model. I have been a Hyundai and Kia supporter since 2011 and in general have been very impressed by their design and engineering since that model year.
Really good review. Thanks!
Just one note: The steering wheel DOES have the H on it… only it’s in morse code! It looks fantastic.
Nailed it.. If you churn out design that everyone finds inoffensive then your range will be bland. Hyundai and Kia are creating waves. Good work.
The interior is beautiful ,the back is the piece de resistance simply gorgeous ,the front is boring ,Hyundai are really making amazing electric cars hats off to them
I feel you here... 3:28 "It not gonna be to everyone's taste". When you see it online VS when it arrives...
Yo bruv I love you and I love your body of work. It's my very first time critiquing your work and I do not believe it's just because I agree with you that the Ioniq 6 is a cool yet affordable smart vehicle, but also because you're good at what you do.
Nice one Hyundai! The interior is very special. I thought the rear would be compromised but all good! We’ll done!
Very nice. Love what Hyundai and Kia are doing. I'm not really a fan of what the German manfucturers are doing these days, so these are a refreshing change.
I agree aside from the R8 and the superwagons from mercedes and audi. Also the higher end AMGS. The "low end" ones are only about as fast as ricer cars lol
@@jeremyickes5699 Yep, I do like the high-end estates and the R8, but I could never afford any of them. It's the general 'stuff' from BWM, Audi, Marc that I'm not to fond of, the stuff that is a similar price to these EV's from Kia and Hyundai. I don't like the new 3 series, much preferred the last one (F31) for example.
Strange if you see how much design and interior details Hyundai use from german carmakers .
After seeing the Hyundai Ioniq 6 prototype at the Hyundai Motor Studio Senayan Park Jakarta, I believe this car will dominate the EV sedan in Indonesia, just like its predecessor Kona EV & Ioniq 5 which was produced at the Hyundai factory in Indonesia.
I have been eyeing this beauty in parking lots. IONIQ has such a sleek yet sturdy look :D
It's gorgeous. A big improvement in exterior design over the Ioniq 5. Probably unrealistic, but I hope Hyundai is able to produce enough of these cars to meet demand.
They will.... eventually.
This looks like the lovechild of an old Koenigsegg (the front) and a CLS (with the sloping coupe roof). I like it very much 👌
CLS + A7 + Urus headlights
It looks like a Chinese rip off of Porsche 964.
Horrible indeed
It reminds of Tiburon in front, and a bit of panamera on the rear for me.
Very cool, reminds a bit of both SAAB, Porsche and MB CLS. Great video!
Great presentation. Thank you.
Love it! They have definitely stepped up their game and the look of this car will be timeless! Congrats!! Will definitely consider it
taking the fastback design to a whole new level 😍 (still want a coupé but might settle for this)
Can't wait to get one!
Does it have a sunroof?
Thanks for the great video. The four dots on the streering wheel is acutally a morse code. 4 dots stands for the letter "H" like Hyundai. Just for your information.
This in all black would look incredibly sleek. I am loving Hyundai and Kia's design language as of late!
Agreed, the Prophecy concept car was actually black, and it fitted its rear better, making it fall more smoothly imo.
👍 Great design and aesthetics, both sister companies are doing extremely well in EV space, Tesla domination is about to end.
Are you sure?
@@netrox1345 Elon Musk is an ass and people want to move away from tesla, at least that's what i see I scotland
This car may be aero, but it also looks like it's dragging its butt.
Yeah i agree with you 💯 👌
@@netrox1345 Yes, as Tesla is very good at some things (electronics) and lousy at others (interior design, fit and finish).
I haven't seen anyone open the trunk yet. Is it a hatchback? Or does it have a tiny trunk lid? Did they manage to make a bunch of space in the teardrop tail back there, or is the trunk small? I really want to see this as a family road tourer for those who don't want an SUV.
Having now had the chance to see the 6 here in the UK and owning a 5 it seems to me that you have a choice. If you like saloons then the 6 is for you or if you prefer the practicality of a hatch then it has to be the 5. Both of these cars are cars are just awesome. For me I love the practical 5 so will be staying with that for a while.
Quality interior and infotainment system. I kinda like the inside more than the outside 👌🏻
Its full touch screen with touch buttons 🤮 Complete nightmare for everyday driving. Another stupidly designed car
@@Joshua-uq9zw way better then teslas dogshit though
@@Joshua-uq9zw Radio buttons looks to be physical at least. Plus the screen size is reasonable for Android Auto/Carplay
@@roboticvenom1935 These Ioniq have got hard plastic everywhere, except on the best trim which is a lot of $$$. And software suck on the Ioniq.
If you consider a dog pile of plastic shit "quality" then there is a serious problem here
I'd buy one and a 5 just because of epic design. They're on a roll at the moment.
What about Boot space versus the 5. Is it a larger or smaller car overall
A very nice car indeed! Thanks Rory for the video, very informative!
Not quite the same as the Prophecy but it shares the same spirit and design-philosophy. And goddamn is it beautiful. I think they nailed it.
I'm hoping the Prophecy comes out as a Genesis.
@@julioibarra7156 That would be amazing :-D I think they may build a Genesis on the same platform as this. I'd love one with the same sloping design as the Prophecy. Fingers crossed 🤞
LOVE IT..... so glad Hyundai / Kia are bringing stylish/quality cars to market. I'm so bored with the incumbent. Thanks for the video.
This is actually such a nice looking car, i’ve heard things about hyundai having bad motors but an electric car is way different. really gonna try and get an ioniq 6
Reminds me of the old early 2000s sports cars. Good times
Porsche called they want their 911 rear end back
Hyundai continuing to steal designs, what's new?
Now they really need to redesign their badge to match the design of the cars
I didn’t like it at first but this video made me fall in love with the design. Wow
I hope they later make a sleeker coupe version like that prometheus concept although it was also a 4 door
This will look perfect next to my arctic silver 996 turbo. It looks like what a sleeker new 911 electric should look like :)
It’s really nice to see car manufacturers taking leaps now.
Well the only one that is dating to be different and innovative is Hyundai. The rest are just following the standard making boring looking EVs
Fantastic presentation. Where of I sign :)
I love the look but I'm just wondering.. the internal lights. They're purple in the video but can that colour be changed?
Yes...many colors
Great presentation and the car looks really good. It'll stand out for a time on the road. And to me this shows why sedans are always better looking than SUVs/crossovers.
Hyundai have nailed this car! Love it!
It's got the silhouette of the old CLS,
The rear of an old 911.
I think it works, I love the simplicity.
The front looks jdm and every other angle looks like a new interpretation of an og Merc CLS... I'm obsessed
I’d would pre-order a coupe version of this in a heartbeat
Great review as ever 👍 loving that design
Good to see something that's not another SUV. Looks like it will be a very efficient vehicle too.
It definitely has some similarity to the Mercedes EQXX's design in the way the front is shaped and the roof line. You really see how aerodynamics were key in the design. I wonder what's its CW rating is.
Looks good, wish looked more like the Prophecy, something like the older Hyundai coupe from the front with an old 911 from the 80's inspiration at the rear with matrix lights. Being an Ioniq5 owner I can see a lot of the same parts on the dash including the metal surround for the screens and lever switch gear. I am excited about the future of the brand just now.
The front has elements of the Toyota celica and Sony vision S concept. The back has elements of the Porsche and beetle.
The back reminds me of the Infinity J30 from the early 90’s
It's beautiful in photographs. My first question always, is not about the range, but how long does it take to charge?
Yes. Even though Hyundai is not my first choice, they are on the right track to create more interesting EVs that are not the basic, hateful SUV type. So yes please, more of this and if the design inspiration comes from the 40s, what's not to like? 😊
Can’t wait to see this at the dealership and definitely test drive it’s a win win situation 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Love the Benz CLS/air-cooled Porsche vibes I get from this!
My only complaint is that it’s not a lift back. Otherwise, Hyundai absolutely killed it with this and the 5. I’ve been considering an EV6 as a replacement for my Accord hybrid, but this makes the choice a lot harder 😓
I have the ev6 and couldn’t be happier … the wind version with wind technology. I used to be a Honda person but the tech on the Kia is so far above Honda, you will be amazed and wonder why you are still in a Honda.
@@frankiejane1109 One of my favorite features on my car is the camera on my passenger mirror, so the fact that the EV6 has it on both sides is a huge selling point. My Accord is a 2017 but basically any EV above the level of a Leaf is like a spaceship in comparison
It needs those spoilers to reduce the lift created by the sloping roof line.
Nice one Hyundi, looks like another very fine car, and very much like my much-loved Mercedes CLS, the original 4 door coupe, surprised no one seems to have noticed :-)
Looks so much cooler than the Merc EQE, love it!
love the rear and side. BEAUTIFUL!
Nice review. Could you do one for NIO ?
Wish it looked more like the prophecy concept. I think this car would look better with smaller wheels.
It's opposite, bigger the wheels better the car looks. See any Porsche, merc s class, myback, rolls Royce, any hypercar.
Looks great. Very reminiscent of the Citroen DS.
What Kia and Hyundai are doing past years is just amazing... Top notch designers. Only thing what I would change is to put one big screen instead of 2 as for the dashboard, because that delimiter looks silly to me.
It really makes me think of a cross between a Porche and a Citroen CX. I love it!
I really like it. Hyundai did carry through with the original Prophecy concept in my opinion. I just wonder if it is a liftback or a trunk. I would much rather have a lift back than a trunk, for practicality's sake.
I’m seeing Panamera and CLS influences here. Overall a lovely looking car. Hyundai really kicking goals with the Ioniq range.
@5:10 The 4 dots in the steering is Morse code for 'H' or the Hyundai logo
Does anyone see the Hyundai Tiburon in the front end? Especially the headlight area?
