I do believe there is a rear viewing camera so that may work ok. Again great review thanks.
3:40 - The main reason for the reduced capacity of the front boot on four-wheel-drive versions of the Ioniq 5 is because most of the space underneath is taken up by the front motor. That’s why rear-wheel-drive only versions have a bigger front boot than the four-wheel-drives, as they have no front motor taking up space.
It's just poor packaging of the motor and inverter. You only have to look at the frunk on a Model 3 (which has a much lower bonnet so should be smaller) to see that if you design it properly then you can get useable space.
@@Jikangire957 - Not a big fan of the rear razor looking spoiler, but it looks darn good from the front and sides. Wow, this isn't a concept car. Respect to Hyundai, hope they keep as you say being brave with their design, think that would be the key to gaining a larger market share.
As a Tesla owner, I love the look of the Ioniq and the incredible blind spot system, and I'm rooting for it to succeed--but it seems so far behind everything else about Teslas. Keep in mind that an official range of 250 miles is nowhere near that in reality. 1. the range will decrease significantly in the first year 2. you don't run any of these cars at 100% or below 10% if you can avoid it, it's very hard on the battery, and in my experience you have to drive *very* gently to meet the range estimates. This means a lot of people will need access to chargers on a regular basis, and you'll find out what an annoyance that is outside of Tesla. Also, you miss out on the driving experience of Tesla, i.e. the acceleration, autopilot, sound system, infotainment. If you want to buy a car on pure looks and have only very short drives, then by all means choose this--I look forward to seeing them on the road. But if you have the opportunity, you should spend some time driving both of them first.

Then you check they needed a shit ton of recalls for tucson/santa fe and they only did that when korean prosecutors barged in their offices. And ioniq 5 can catch on fire...sometimes when it rains lol
@@dwade3202 lol, you're uninformed. Check the recall list by each countries official regulators. Hyundai has lesser recall than the major manufacturers like Toyota, honda, bmw etc
@@dwade3202 unfortunately the other brands are not better they have a lot of recalls too.
@@dwade3202 Ioniq 5 is not out yet in most markets. what recall?? why are you talking out of your rear? If you mean the Kona EV, the same of the batteries were assembled the wrong way by a manufacturer in China they no longer work with. as D Wade said above, overall they have less recalls than other manufacturers and 100k mile warranty in the US.
@Abhisar Choubey kia actually just killed off the stinger, a tragedy imo. Everyone says it's beautiful and should be more popular but nobody was buying them unfortunately
I am so ready for this thing! Finally, a mainstream automaker taking the fight to Tesla... for real. Not just saying stuff. It's a truly compelling EV in every single way.
Well not really, shit autonomous driving you dont know what luxury is until FSD/Tesla autonomous, small storage, worse range, much slower, no super computer inside still that runs apps/smooth af display, cheapo seat, towing, charger network prices/availibility, glass roof not as sexy for the price, the interior damping nowhere near as nice, since only a few thousand made much less custom ability, obviously Hyundais current bad streak with electric car reliability. Is it a great car for the price? Yep. But its rough to say it is Killer of Tesla who is barely keeping up with building more cars that sell 15k above their build price, I really do hope tesla makes a smaller cuv like this for 25k cause that is the price that will ve amazing.
The Hyundai/Kia/Genesis designers are really masters at packaging...impressive how they manage to utilize and maximize space. Love the design touches and would buy it for the exterior and interior styling alone. The blind view camera in the dash is genius and would definitely want the heads up display.
is it crazy to think that companies like Hyundai are still trying while others are just coasting on previous glory?
Facts. It’s crazy to see how far Hyundai & Kia came from being seen as cheap unreliable manufacturers in the 90s to where they are now.
@@hbombfreak I rented a Hyundai Excel at Brisbane Airport in the early 2000s. The bubbly bulbous one. It was a piece of junk but it was cheap to rent and I only needed it for 4 days. They know what is happening in China.
They are proving they're in it for the long run. It took over a decade but they brought Kia back from the dead.

I remember the pony shocking car. Who'd of thought 30 odd years later they'd be producing cars like this.
It is as if Hyundai had taken their time observing the other automakers, the things they were doing right and wrong and brought out a pure EV that on the first try, is doing it correctly. Everything about the car appears to be intentional.
This isn't the first pure EV from them but ok.

@@noclu4u384 Ah the days of the 8 track. In cold weather they would slow down, so they needed a little warm up with the defrost cycle on the dash to play at almost normal speed. A gas of tank would cost $12, and I would earn $5 per hour, which was a good wage. Ironically, the price of electricity here in British Columbia costs the same to fill up an EV battery as much as it did to fill up a tank of gas 40 years ago. ICE is toast!!. Cheers from Canada.

still get solar energy on a cloudy day
The original Leaf Tekna, of course, had a solar panel in its roof to keep the 12V battery topped up! So it would be good if Hyundai could do this with the Ioniq 5!
Only the 1st Edition will have solar panels on the roof. Once it is sold, it will not be offered as an option.
Wonder how much of kW you can get on the not sunny but not too cloudy day either for 8 hours on the street.
If you could get enough to go back home, it could be worth it.

Best review I've seen thanks. Making me drool over when we finally get our preorder next year. Love the enthusiasm.
This Ioniq 5 looks like the Lancia Delta Integrale, and the interior looks like a living room 😂
It looks similar bc Giorgetto Giugiaro, designer of Lanica Delta, also designed the Hyundai Pony/Excel on which the Ioniq 5 is inspired from.
That would promote relaxed driving. I'd be ok with going for a drive in my living room.......

Great review . I went in to buy the Kona at a dealership in Canada but after doing the test drive in both no contest the Ioniq 5 is the winner hands down, I ordered the Long Range AWD top of the line the only thing we can't get here is the solar roof which is too bad, however there is one criterium the car does not have a rear wiper it was raining very hard the day I test drove the car within about 10 mins I could not see a thing out of the rear window. I do believe there is a rear viewing camera so that may work ok. Again great review thanks.
Very solid review from Rory, included everything i need to know. Keep this guy on.
Hahahahaha "It looks like a DeLorean - for your mum!" killed me. Spot fucking on.
This looks how an electric car should . Different but not obnoxious
Yea I agree

Nice choice mate
Amen!
I mean once it's an ev
