Thinking of switching to rivian from a Tesla. If you had to purchase another vehicle tomorrow would you stick with another rivian or get something else?
I own a Rivian R1S and a Tesla M3. If my garage was on fire and I had to save 1 vehicle, I would pull out the R1S out without even thinking about it…even if it somehow meant that I had to run my Tesla over with the R1S 🤓
I've had mine for 6 months and I love it, but I've noticed that the chrome colored plastic trim on the door handle has chipped and is peeling off. So that seems to be a cheap material they used for that. Sounds like I need to schedule regular maintenance servicing. Somehow I'm already at 10500 miles. I didn't realize I was driving so much.
One question I have that I can’t find a clear answer to that I think you can answer: what is the driver height versus your Range Rover? Like when you are driving can you see over small/midsize SUVs or are you a standard vehicle ride height? Thanks for the content!
So, let me add yet another question to the list: Is it easy for you to get into the R1S at your height (whatever that is)? I'm thinking of getting a R1S, but my wife is 5'3 and I'm wondering if she could get in comfortably (with/without kneeling mode). Thoughts?
Since you don't like Apple CarPlay, does Rivian have a navigation system you like to use or do you just ues your phone for navigation? I like how Carplay uses Waze or Google Maps.
They have their own navigation and recently purchased the holy grail of EV road trip planners - ABRP. I've never used a Rivian, so I can't comment on the quality of the new navigation, but I've seen zero complaints about it
5:17 you just made me remember the time I stacked $2 in quarters on the lid of my Accord's center console cupholder, and then accidentally bumped it. It opened smoothly and dumped the quarters into the bowels of the car.
I've been driving a Chevy Bolt EV for about 4 years now and I could never go back to gas. My only complaints with the Bolt is it still uses the old DC Fast Charging tech that caps out at 50kw so I'm sitting at chargers on road trips longer than the new cars...but I also only paid $25K for it and take maybe one or two longer trips per month. Not paying for gas for driving around town the last 4 years makes up for the smaller inconvenience of taking a little longer on my drives. I just bring my Steam Deck for a reason and enjoy the break.
Check on the windshield washer fluid thing, had mine for 1.5 years, never had any messages about low fluid. You may have a leak somewhere. Happy motoring!

Had mine just over a year 20k miles. Lots of road trips. I did get a shade for my roof window because I live in a very hot locale and it’s necessary for 3-4 months. My only real complaint is the lack of ceiling vents in the second row. Again, I live someplace hot.
I don't think the coating likes harsh mechanical brushing, especially regularly. However, it does make hand washing easier, and if it's just some dust, a hose can get you far.
are the charging spots in Real Time? i hear some people complain about a charging station that will be out of commission, so they panic & have to find another one near by that works....
In my experience, the information about the chargers in the navigation system is very accurate and real time. If it says 2/2 chargers available, then no one is there. Sometimes, it doesn't know the status, but that's usually a sign of a charger to avoid. What I've learned that I didn't know originally is about the charger queue. If all are occupied, there's probably a line forming somewhere you aren't looking. But I don't like that game, so I just find a different charger. One thing I would like chargers to do is be able to ask the user how long they plan to be there. Then we could actually see when they will be available.

I'm looking forward to the R3 in particular as a potential replacement for my little diesel car. That or something similar if Rivian comes out with that. I like having a smaller vehicle for ease of parking and such. Regarding CarPlay, I don't use that either even though my car offers it. I just have MP3s on thumb drives. I imagine that would work nicely in a Rivian? I'd be all the more impressed if they support Ogg and FLAC :)
Rivian does not currently have that capability. What I tend to do is just set a tablet up on the dash and connect it to the car's hot spot. The sound plays though the car.
Just picked up a 2025 R1S and I have to say I am really disappointed in the suspension. It hits the bump stops all the time under normal driving in any of the ride modes. Not a great look for an $80k car.

Great video! Sucks about you thinking that about CarPlay. My car doesn't have CarPlay and after my mom rented a vehicle for a couple of days, it had CarPlay and I was in LOVE! Being about to control most everything without lifting or even touching my phone was beautiful for the time she had it. I'm sure it's one of those 'you get used to it' but until I get a vehicle that's primarily using a manufacturer's app/system, CarPlay/AAuto is a-must imho. I've also had bad experiences connecting my apps to other services, namely Spotify. So I'm farrrr more trusting in Apple than ever.
I completely agree!! I love CarPlay. I'm not sure I understand what Jenna's complaint about Apple CarPlay is. With CarPlay, your phone calls can still go through your car. As far as I know, you can also play Spotify through CarPlay. Plus, you can use all the different navigation programs like Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, etc, you can quickly go to a destination in your calendar, or if someone sends you a link, etc. So many benefits that make life so much easier!
I've now sleep in mine 4 times. I did a road trip from Colorado to Maryland and wanted to save on hotels. I got a full size air mattress and put it in the back with the seats all down. I sleep like I was at home. The air runs on low and the insulation is incredible. Access to the car's features from the back screen works great, and Alexa helps too.
I recently purchased a Tesla Model 3 and I also love it. Barley a month in and i dont regret it. I want to ask though, do you Rivian owners get as much hate as Tesla does? lol

Got an R1S after being a model 3 owner for a couple years (still have it). I think the R1S solves more practical needs.

If you use a lot of windshield washer fluid, you have to replace it often.

Road noise may be due to electric motors being quieter, so you notice the road noise more.

The spare tire inflates and gets bigger with the compressor is collapsible. Or at least that’s some of what I’ve seen
