- Join Paul Hindmarsh as he takes a look at how to use a Spider V guitar amp as a USB recording interface with the bundled Cubase LE recording software, and how you can even record your guitar parts directly to your phone or iOS device.
Thanks Paul. I've owned a bunch of Line 6 Products that I've figured out easily. Getting my Spider V 30 to work with my Mac and Cubase was a near impossibility so I didn't try the Cubase software for months. I happened upon your video and it is the first thing I've seen that made sense!! I was able to get my Spider V 30 working properly on my Mac with Cubase.Thank you sir!!
Great. Thank you!
I have been in love with Line 6 for the better part of a decade. I have the Spider Valve MKII, and it is one of my favorite pieces of equipment. This new Spider V sounds just as awesome; cheers!

Do you still using
you can do almost the same thing on the spider 4
REQUIRED HARDWARE:
2x 3mm to 1/4 inch adapter
1x headphone splitter
2x relatively long aux cables (depends on how your area is set up)
1x headpones (for mixing i like using my skullcandy skull crusher with the extra bass knob turned off, or take out the battery)
1x anything you need to connect to the computer (atm i use a focusrite scarlet 2i2, if you need a budget alternative id suggest a peavey xport)
1x line 6 spider 4 (obviously)
all you do is have your guitar connected to the amp like normal, but in the quarter inch slot on the spider for headphones you put the 3mm adapter, then use a headphone splitter (1 side goes to your computer and 1 side goes to your headphones so you can hear what youre playing) and thats it, it honestly sounds better that way than mic-ing it
This guy is actually playing really well!
ok that is really cool!! We can say one thing about Line 6 amps, they are full of surprises!!!! Now, I want one!!!! :)
Good job on this one!!!
I am unable to record to voice recorder or GarageBand on iPad,I did connect it through lightning cable and also the switch position is correct.
thanks a lot.. i use Ableton too.. thanks from Sardinia!
I have the Spider V 30 and when I connected to my pc and installed the drivers from the official Line6 website it worked wonderfully. Fast forward a few weeks later, I tried to connect it again today and all of the sudden I'm getting very noticeable latency and I don't know why that happened or how to fix it. I did not change any configurations since the day I set it up for the first time. It's a bit frustrating because I uninstalled the whole thing, plugged it again and I can't make it work properly. I didn't have to do anything back then and now I'm trying to troubleshoot that like crazy.
Love your guitar work ... and the video tutorial. Thanks
I’ve tried just about everything to get this amp head to work with the Cubase le free software that comes with the line 6 spider v 240 hc,seems I can’t find the right download for it
what's the app called?
This range of amps just blows me away. Paul, would you be able to elaborate at some stage on the drum and bass sounds you used and how you got them (in particular the drums) into your recording? So great to know the Cubase software is bundled. Can't wait to get my hands on one...
AV Professionals Hi. Thanks! The drums on this came from a demo version of addictive drums. I had a demo version sitting on my mac that loaded when I installed this cubase. I foolishly thought it came with cubase so used it in the demo. Doh! Normally I play my drums in and use slate sounds. Bass is just a Di with little processing.
Watched ALL the Spider V demos! Great job! Just added a "Spider V 240 2x12" to my Yamaha family. You might want to do a demo using it as a Keyboard amp as well...cause that's how I'll use it; along with my electric and acoustic guitars. Between my 15" PA speakers and 6" stereo speakers, there was a BIG whole in trying to duplicate stage sound. I can use this on stage AND as part of the studio monitors. Add the wireless, the XLR outs, and everything else, and there are just too many perks in this amp, over all the others (including Yamaha's GREAT service), to NOT buy it!
can hear both sound of amps and Neural DSP plugin's sound when using this amplifier as audio interface.. how do i only get the sound of NDSP plugin only and not the amps sound with NDSP sound?
Can you connect line 6 spider jam thru RCA to the computer ? And if yes, you can hear the guitar also in line spider or you need studio monitors ?
I do my recording with a Line6 IV 75 Watt Amp..Fantastic Amp for sure..
So it records the sound the same way that the spider V does? I mean, by plugging the amp to the pc the same way it is showed in the video (I'm sorry for the strange question but I'm planning to buy the same amo that you mentioned)
I've used several line 6 products and find them easy to use. The Cubase software is whole different animal. I can't get it to create any good sounds. I am curious as to why you started out recording a track to your iPod/iPhone VOICE MEMO app? What did that have to do with plugging your Spider V directly into your MAC as a a recording device?
I cant even download the cubase because it says I need an activation code for it but where do I get if from? I have a spider V mkII
@@yalib0988 Man, that was so many years ago I don’t even recall! Sorry. :/
Can this amp connect directly to GarageBand or logic for for ipad?
I am looking to solve the large input latency issue I’m having on windows 10
I've been trying to fix it for so long but it never worked. then I'm back to windows 7 and it works I hope this helps you
saint mike - thank you, I will give that a try. I just built a Win 10 machine so I hope the issue gets solved.
@@Iain0101 An important thing. If you want to use the Spider remote app, you need to first update your PC until it has Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.2
Be sure the ASIO driver is installed and selected.
Thanks.November12,2022.excellent.
Can i use spider v30 with ableton live to loop guitar, record voice with another studio interface, loop it aswell and to output and monitor all of it live through the v30 amp?
Yes
Wow if its getting record in this way then obviously u need not to buy any sort of audio interface and mics need not to mess with mic positions and most imp fact no acoustic treatment is required as it gets record directly with any background noise..
Wow amazing
Hi there what is the exact usb cord you are using to connect it , I have a macbook air and cant seem to find the right cord
Can you plug your USB into the Spider and record into the amp then remove USB and put the recording onto your computer? My Korg 700 keyboard funtions like that with no additional chords or aps....
works good with iRig2 , try this: page 8. of the product manual .Connect an external amplifier to the 1/4" TS Amplifier output jack on irig2 and select the behavior of this output via the THRU-FIX switch. or FX also 1/8" connection with mixers , speakers , and , amplifiers.Im liking my own Line6 modeling guitar amp, this Line6 Movies and YOU the author excellente your playing is clean 'Stellar Haven' ! i had a minor problem, when first saw this Spider V30 Guitar Amp (out of box)i got agreed upon what i purchase priced.but came with the STEINBERG'S CUBASE LE- upon registration. So my own long review ,Right? lastly found i just run a 1/8' line either thru the back or front plus USB cable, several lengths, and....a OTG cable! about 2.00 to 5.00 dollars crazy but this could help thru your amps..any feedback? Once again..man.you're bright as a Single Coil and hot on the Skills .Oh yea, Do you ever mic your Line 6 amp Paul Hindmarsh .Im readying too.
hi paul watch you on andetons all time great stuff need advice im looking for a amp to set up to my pc not mac , where i can record or maybe jam to tracks got a spark amp not impressed so looking at line 6 spider5 mk2 with drum loops and built in looper i think lol want to make a mini studio but not to good on pc software so can you recomend something to get me going thanks steve mac
I'm using a Line 6 Spider V 30watt amp, does anyone know what kind of cable I need to plug it into my PC?
Cade Strathern it's an usb a to b cable
so how do you hook this amp up to record on FL studio straight to the mac book? i'm using my audio interface to run my sound out of my studio monitors. the guitar amp is hook directly up to the mac book and not going through the interface. am i doing anything wrong there or does anyone have any insight on a more depth video on how to set these things up the right way?
Can it record a dry mono signal via USB?
What kind of usb do I need for the spider V 20w? I don’t want to end up buying the wrong one.
The USB out is 16 or 24 bit? I can't find this info anywhere.
Did you find out by any chance?
When I'm using my my spider v 240 as a recording interface I have to adjust the sounds quite a bit from my settings when I have it going through the speaker, as it doesn't sound the same, any advice? EQ settings ? Lowering the gain maybe?
Delete-Control me too some times it’s really quite
It won't work on my computer or phone :(
Barely got it working (my computer sucked dude!)
How do you save a .jam file to a wav or mp3 file?
Can I send midi to the spider v to change presets?
i dont get it , when i add track and select spider V as Audio Input , it just doesnt record the track runs but doesnt record anything i play and it doesnt even recognize the sound...
What cable I need to connect my spider v 240MK II to my window computer?
All you need is an aux cable and an adapter for the headphone jack. Then plug it in to your microphone port on your motherboard.
Guys this amp can connect with phone for audio in?? Plz help
Model 20w
can i use this with cakewalk? if so, how?
is there a difference in the sound quality in the different models of this amp? does the 30w sound the same as the 240w one when recording over USB?
No, and yes but is just not at same watts power.
Can I connect it to Windows PC or Android? What cable shall I use?
Yes, need a USB cable and a OTG cable
What recording app did you use on your phone?
@Line6 what is the highest sample rate this amp go?
Thanks for the Video good job!
It is possible to download cubase from the website Line 6 because i try but i don't see cubase in the list?
You can send me the link please.
Or if it's not possible what DAW i can download to register my guitar with my Spider V60.
Thanks for Help.

How to record in samsung a8?
But only one is bothering me its wireless suppose i want to connect my looper padel in it ( ditto looper , Boss RC 3 ) it is possible?
spider v 30 has no wireless function, 60, 120, and 240 have a wireless receiver built in but still have all your standard input jacks so you can plug you guitar and any effects into the front of the amp. V 30 has no effects loop, so i have to run all my pedals into the front of the amp. not sure if the 60, 120, and 240 models have effects loops, i think they really want you to just use the effects that are built in.
in short, yes you can use your looper and the 60, 120, and 240 models actually have a looper built in. you'd still be able to use your pedal though
Could you please just tell me pc software recording name . Thanks
oudai jawad use Audacity it’s free or if you buy a midi keyboard you’ll get Ableton or pro tools first for free like a limited version but if your going for more than 8 tracks use audacity
Chasm Frazier he’s using cubase i think
but what kind of cable you need for this ???
OTG
@@michaelslaughter6557 ok, but how you connect line 6 spider jam? And what kind of OTG, cos i see thay are more?
Whats the type of usb called at the back of the amp, I've forgot.
its simply a printer cable :D i use the same and works fine
Can I run this into my sonic port VX and into my iPhone?
jose flores you can plug this straight into your iPhone with the USB connection. Or audio out into sonic port if you prefer.
no latency? I have about half a sec of delay
or is the V 30 just too basic to have that sorted out?
You probably need the ASIO4ALL driver. Download, install, and select it in the DAW.
I have a Spider V 20 MKII, but there's no way to record it so, this video is a lie because I have not found the option to "record straight to my computer".
what type of cord did you use to connect the amp straight to the computer?
it's the same chord you use to connect your computer to a printer can't remember the actual name tho sorry
Its a printer cable. USB male to AB female. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH13DV2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@@brianbarnett100 And how you connect him, thru controler pedal or how?
what is that i phone app called you used to record
It's just the built in iPhone 'Voice memos'.
I've tried to use voice recorder as you did, but no luck. Is there a setting you have to change on the phone or amp?
Hi Kevin. It should just work. I've just tried it again with a different spider. Only thing I can think of is your USB selector switch isn't over to iPhone/ipad?
paulhindmarshmusic Thanks, yes it was. I will have the store try.
@@paulhindmarshmusic try looking into there site as well
is it compatible with PC?
Yes it is.
paulhindmarshmusic how do i Plug the line 6 into my pc? Does it work with an aux cable?
@@nasaboy3982 really late response but I guess for those who are new to this, I will post this. you need a printer cable.
Nice demo Paul. How come you moved from Protools?
Cubase comes with the amp he says, pretty good!
John Boswell Hi John. Didn't move just need to use both these days. And this one is free to spider V users.
For those who are looking for the type of cable www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH13DV2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Anyone who is using windows and plans to install their free version of Cubase LE AI Elements dont bother. You cant export your audio files as they made the "window" so huge the export command is hidden.
If you want to record on pc there is 10 sec long video :/
typical Yamaha line of attack... cubase lite sucks. using a guitar amp with a USB out sucks... using your amp as an audio playback interface while recording is awful
