Line 6 amps get so much hate because they were one of the first on the scene with modeling technology ..ya they did make some less than stellar amps during those years but keep in mind that it was new technology and time perfects everything..they had the balls to create and manufacture something new and some of those older models are still around today..that says alot right there...its unfair to compare their old stuff to the amps they are making now..they have come a long way and shouldn't be judged on their past...Peavey Vypyr VIP amps are going thru the same thing as Line 6 and it's sad because those amps have some of the best metal tones out there in 2020 and affordable..plug into a vypyr VIP 2,3 or pro 100 and then select the 6505 amp and see for yourself ..I'm unbiased and do not work for Peavey,Line 6 or any amplifier company..I'm just a guitar player that has hands on experience with both amps mentioned ..my main amp is a Blackstar TVP ID260 2x12 amp
Hi there! Nice review. A couple quick clarifications: the demo riffs are there to free your hands up so you can audition presets and edits to your tone. Also, the drum loops are audio recordings, not MIDI files, which is why the tempo cannot be changed. Another tip: If you go into the global settings (by holding down the Home button), you can change the position of the Looper to "Pre" (instead of Post) and record your own loop to audition your presets and changes. Your recording sounds great! Rock on! 🤘🏻
Thanks for the tips! I forgot to mention in the video that the V30 doesn't have a looper like the higher up models. Now I wish it did because that would make it a lot easier to be able to hear the settings being adjusted in real time like you mention.
No problem. :-) Yes, I recommend the V60 and higher, for both the looper and the built-in wireless receiver. It kills me to have to plug in a cable anymore. We're going to have kids who grow up not knowing what a guitar cable is. Crazy to think, isn't it? 🤘🏻
Sounds good for alt rock. Upcoming Gear: Billie Joe Armstrong Telecaster Custom (with SH5 Duncan Custom instead of JB) Line 6 Spider V 30 Ernie Ball Regular Slinkys
Nothing Bad about Line6 IV and V..Their isn't a Amp Solid State/Modeling or Tube that will completely cater to everyone's liking and thats not a bad thing..i haven't used a Tube Amp since 2009 when i was introduced to the Marshall 100FX..the Solid State/modeling Technology the past 20 + years is incredible..no need to use just Tube Amps anymore..Solid State/Modeling Amps do it all and More and their much more reliable than any Tube Amp
I love tube amps. I love some solid states too, especially my line 6, but for playing live it's hard to find something that matches the tone and sound of a good tube amp.
very cool man. I've owned a V60 since it came out. Great companion for my James Tyler Variax & Helix LT. It may seem overboard, but I also have a Firehawk 1500...lol.
Like that with all crap turned off it works like an amp. See comments about the tone, but heard one demo'd and thought several preset tones sounded good. The 30w was certainly as good as other $200 amps and adds ability to customize tone with the app plus real drum beats. Haven't seen much better for the price. Looks like a good setup for having fun playing.
Looking at buying the new version v60 mk2 - the tracks that you have done are really good. I am looking to eventually use it it with DAW - there are lots of plugins for DAW now that do guitar effects - it looks like you have been off vids for a while - but thanks for the things you have posted.
Hello and ty for the walk through. Very helpful, the heavy metal sound on the diesel 421 you created is exactly the sound I'm looking for. However when I set my amp to those exact parameters it still doesn't sound like yours, I'm using the line 6 v60 and a schecter super shredder. Could you possibly post those parameters here as they are kind of hard to follow in the video and set on your app at the same time thank you in advance for any assistance
What do you think of your new amp? I bought the Spider V 120 and FBV3 footpedal back in June. I love it for practice late night with headphones when I can't run my Rockerverb Mk3 100 and wake the neighborhood. I have been able to get 3 distortion sounds dialed in exactly how I want them. It just took hours on each one which I am fine with. I will be keeping it and continue to use it when I can't or don't want to run my half stack. What amp models and cabs are you using for your distortion?
Great amp! Similar to the Boss Katana features. I have both used from Guitar Center! I guess people don't have the patience to learn new tricks. Their loss. My gain!
Are there some more good "tutorials" on getting everything you can out of this amp? How do you sing and play guitar with this amp. Easy question/easy answers? I bought the Line 6 Spider 120 V MK ii. Thank you
I have one of these. Not a bad unit, though I'd like to see a firmware update which makes it possible to change the tempo of the included drum loops. Anybody hacked one of these to put in an external speaker jack?
Hi..thanks for the review.. the Spider IV had some classic tones from specific songs from the 50' through to today ie Cinnamon Girl, Come As You Are, Back in Black etc ..does the Spider V have those as well?
The only decent video on UA-cam about this amp, for me it was this or the orange, why? Cause I love the orange tone and it’s good with pedals ! But to my surprise, the line 6 on its clean setting is good with pedals !!!! I was blown away and shocked, I don’t get the shit talk I really don’t, I’ve had marshals played on peavys , my last amp was a 15 watt spider 3 and man!!!! That thing is the reason I bought a new amp it was showing it’s age haha, this one was ] WELL WORTH THE 340 I paid ( taxes )
great review and good explanation. .question: i have a IV 75W amp with the fbv shortboard . and im looking to get the V120w .... but i noticed the V's dont have a b c d channel BUTTONS on the face .... (if someone didnt have a fbv shortboard) how do you switch channels on the V model? ?? . like if you're playing on stage do you have to turn the knob quickly to play the next part with different tone??
Thanks for the review. I have a Spider Jam which allows me to have 9 banks of 4 for 36 presets to use live. If I'm following this correctly, you are able to tweek and rename all the presets and my floor pedal will switch between the 4 tones on whatever number bank I'm on? Is that correct? I was worried that I could only save 4 tones on bank 32 (A/B/C/D) which would really suck?
HELP..I bought my line 6 v30 at a pawn shop for 40 bucks..Score..But the previous owner has tons of his own presets. how to I clear it and when I make one how do changer the previous name my my choosing. ? HELP. Is it even posable ? I need to know?
I heard amy speaker that isnt 12 inches sucks. Is this true? I really dont want to spend 400 on the 120 watt to get a 12 inch speaker because its all ibe got. Ibe thought about the 60 watt but it has a 10 inch so idk
Hey great video, thank you for keeping it real. can you recommend an alternative to this amp? I have BIA by Positive Grid on my Ipad 2 and I can get a tone of sounds out of this. The Problem is that on my ipad 2 battery get low. i use the APOGEE JAM 96K Interface to connect my guitar to the IPAD 2. I have to unplug the ipad charger to connect my APOGEE. Is there a device I can use that will enable me to keep my Ipad 2 charged and using APOGEE at the same time. Also is there a small you can recommend which is similar to the LIne 6 SPIDER V and has just as many sound effects and tones.
There are some other brands out there but I haven't tried any. I think you're best off just getting a nice tube amp and using a multi-effects pedal with it. There are some nice mini tube amps out there for pretty cheap depending on your style. I bought a Peavey 6505 MH after this failed Line 6 project but the distortion was too harsh for my liking so I sold it and bought a used Mesa Rectifier and it kicks so much ass that it was totally worth the extra cost. When it comes to amps you're better off spending more to get something nice. If you have a computer setup I'd recommend trying Kazrog's amp sims. They sound a lot better than the BIAS stuff.
Hi thank you so much for responding! I agree with on the BIAS stuff. Have you ever heard of a software called Tonestack? Another AMP Sim that I like is one called Flying Hagis, or Tonebridge. you'll find it on the Apple Itunes. Really good AMP Sims. That is really all I use. I really don't like Amplitube, Line 6 is crappy, even garage band I don't use. I want to thank you for responding. I don't gig or anything like, I strictly practice at home using my headphones. Any tube amps you know of that will use headphones? I like Fender Blues Junior tweed, but it has no headphone jack.
I haven't had an iPad for a few years so I'm not familiar with any iOS gear. I've heard that headphones suck on most amps because they use a half-assed simulated speaker sound like the MSDI output on the 6505 MH.
Hello, I have the Dr. Beatz headphones connected to my ipad 2 and the headphones are bad ass. What multi effects pedal do you recommend I get under let's say $300. i head the Boss M 80 is good.
I mostly use plugins on my PC for effects because they are a lot cheaper and often better quality. Even free ones are really good. I post about some of them here when I come across them: masters-of-music.com/category/free/ I bought a cheap Zoom G1on to use with the amp when practicing and it works okay for stuff like delay and chorus but I would never record with it. I'll post a review of it eventually.
I own one. The whole 'remote' and recording web-stuff doesent work with the spider. Its ALL for the line 6 pod etc but seems like they forgot the spider v. If you make your sound from scratch it can sound pretty good. But i want to plug in and play insted turning knobs for 2 hours...
It's small, so maybe a small setting like in a restaurant or small bar. It has great output for the size, but if you were going to do a big show you would want to run a line to a mixer or mic it and run to a bigger setup. He said in another comment that he doesn't recommend micing it, but for real where and how you place the mic in relation to the speaker cone has a huge effect on the sound. I like the sound and wouldn't have a problem micing it or running a line out to a mixer for a bigger show.
This article might help: How to Setup Spider V Amps to Record in Cubase and Other DAWs masters-of-music.com/how-to-setup-spider-v-amps-to-record-in-cubase-and-other-daws/
I have it and the same amp in the video and I couldn't get it to work. I got it to download. You register the amp on the line 6 website and they'll give you a promo code for the cubase download and a link to the download. However, I couldn't get it to record in cubase. It does work great with audacity though, which is free to download.
Hi, wondering if anybody has got a good deathcore or metalcore tone out of this guitar. I have a shecter demon 7 and the sound is honestly pretty sub par in the low end and some sustain. It could be that I need some batteries in my actives (god I wish I had passives again)
is it possible to get an acoustic guitar sound playing an electric guitar with this amp? or does anyone know how i can get an electric guitar to sound like an acoustic?
Bub7*7 T. Learn to use it and listen to other’s or your favorite band’s tone and try to mimic it. Try every single amp. Don’t bother to use other not hi gain amps but put a ton of overdrive to boost it if you play metal. Your tone will be tight AF with a mod gain amp and 2 overdrive boost and noise gate.
Bub7*7 T. It’s like a kid in a candy store... give a kid a candy and he’s happy. Take a kid to a candy store and he’s overwhelmed with choice. Try the online samples as a basis, then tweak from there. I found a Zakk Wylde-ish tone that I liked and just made a couple adjustments for me. It worked for me, but it may lead to more headaches. If that happens, sorry.
It's exactly the same as an X3.. I'm not impressed they would pull that.. Yes it's "a step forward" for the Spider series, no I don't think it's as good as a handful of real, usable if not modeled after real amps, sounds.
Could agree about the speakers. The best I had from my HD was through a cheapa$$ combo in combo front output mode. I didn't realize until after I sold it that I was correct in initially, intuitively, setting the "Focus" parameter between 100 and 200 hz. Apparently the resonance frequency of my little 8-inch speaker was indeed 120ish hertz. Go figure.. after those couple days I decided "Focus" was supposed to be aligned with the Mid knob on the amp's clean channel or something. Never had as good an experience with it again.
I just bought this amp today, I'm just learning to play. I liked your riffs.
I've had it for 6 months and I still can't get the sound I'm looking for
You can turn off the TAP light. Just hold the HOME button a couple of seconds and you can choose if you want to turn it off or on
oh my god thank you man :DDD
The demo riffs are so you can make presets without playing guitar yourself simultaneously.
Oof, I didn't know that, thx
oof
Planning on getting the v240 for gigging and practice watching this video helped me to know what I should do
Sounds good for alt rock.

Angelo J Richetti indeed
I love tube amps. I love some solid states too, especially my line 6, but for playing live it's hard to find something that matches the tone and sound of a good tube amp.
great beginner amp for playing at home.
a sonic dumpster fire.
Get any Orange Amp head and cab or a Peavey 112 bandit pretty cheap and great sounding compared to L6
very cool man. I've owned a V60 since it came out. Great companion for my James Tyler Variax & Helix LT. It may seem overboard, but I also have a Firehawk 1500...lol.

You think Line6 will come out with a version2 of the spider 5 correcting some of the mistakes they've made?
Yes
A.Zepp26 lol nope
Hopefully
Theyve come along way since the ax212
I just bought this amp used for $145 seller says tap button sticks so we shall see.... I'm still excited nonetheless

I used an six chord and the headphone jack
What's the name of the USB, I want to buy it
Hi. It's good for acoustic Guitar? Thanks
Hi..thanks for the review.. the Spider IV had some classic tones from specific songs from the 50' through to today ie Cinnamon Girl, Come As You Are, Back in Black etc ..does the Spider V have those as well?
No, not really. There are a few but the IV has way more presets for specific songs and artists.
The USB out is 16 or 24 bit? I can't find this info anywhere.
Was wondering around 9:02 ... how did you get the one side and then stereo split later in the demo? Thank you ....
It's a good amp I wish I didn't pawn it
Thee story of my broke life
Nice review!!!
Would you recommend using a DAW instead of mic'ing up?
Most definitely. The speakers sound like crap.
How do you think this amp pars against the Boss Katana 50w? I'm stuck between these two.
Very good video ... thank you ...
How do you use your phone is it like Bluetooth connection with the amp?
How to record sound..?? Someone please tell me and help me...
Get a mic
Plug it into interface or computer or iPad or phone
So you can adjust the presets to get your own sounds
Verry Helpful Thanks
Uhhhhhh.... HOW do you change the tempo of those drum loops????? Couldn't find it....
You can't. They're audio files, not MIDI.

does this apply to spider v 20 amp? to connect with the software
I have this amp. Does anyone know how to get the Dimebag Darrell tone? Thank you.
with the amp connected to a device (ipad/iphone, andriod or p/c) download the "spider remote" app. from there you can search the "cloud" for tones.
Find "hell's cowboys " preset, change the speakers to Brit 4x12 and the mic to the 421. Roll back the amp distortion a little bit. There you go.

What are you using for drums ?
EZdrummer 2, the Made of Metal kit.
which jack do you use for an android tablet? is it the same for the PC?
Same cable but with a USB to micro USB adapter: amzn.to/2fMYgqg
How do you connect headphones to it? (if you can)
Its got a headphone jack
where?
mini plug top right of panel
How do I hook it up to my lap top?
I’m looking for one😎
I play a lot Metallica are there any presets in this amp for that.
Is there a tone like Dimebag Darrell Abbott? If so, what would it be? So, there's nothing for an Android phone, only I phone? Thanks
There is, it's under cowboys from hell
30 amp model? Perhaps you meant 30 watt model?
wait how do you connect the amp to the app?
Did u ever figure it out
Via a cable plugged in the back.
legend has it he's still trying to figure this out
can it produce tone one like bohemian Rhapsody?
any walkthrough on getting cubase le 8. I'm having trouble downloading
What is the name of the app, can't find it on my Android?
hubbell627 for Apple only.
@@NeilDjents it's on Android, he literally says this is the android version in the video 🙄🙄🙄🙄🤦🏻♂️
Where's the 1/4 inch headphone output? All I see is 3.5mm. Will we need an adapter?
Yeah, the V30 and V60 have the smaller headphone jack and V120 and V240 have the larger one.
I can't get Studio One or Cubase LE to record a single note with this thing.
This amp has a few presets that are amazingly close to bona fide acoustic guitar tones.
Can you plug this into a 4x 12 cabinet...
Not unless you mod it, but the headphones output could be amp'd up with like powered speakers.
I e had this amp for 2 plus years and never knew you could do all of this shit.
Can you loop riffs and how if so
Only on 60w and up.
can you turn the tap temp light off?
Philip Mesi yes
Don't think so
Someone can help me to put a sound like bryan may from queen
Hey man, what lead do I need to connect this to my PC?
Just a standard printer cable.
Masters-of-Music Thanks so much man, I've been ordering all sorts of cables haha
I hate to say this! But I cannot seem to dial up really cool edgy sound effects etc ? 😨😰😰

Start with the metal rhythm preset and try to tweak it to your liking.
Mine must be broken
I got this amp for Christmas and 2 weeks into having it the screen doesn’t work does anyone know how to fix this

Glad I haven't Pawned this one! Lol
Nowadays amps are judged on features and effects ( most of which are shit out of the box ) sound doesn't seem to matter anymore.
