How to Replace ABS Control Module on JK Wrangler WITHOUT Bleeding Brakes

- Do you have a C2200 error code on your 07-18 Jeep JK Wrangler? If so, you can replace your ABS Control Module in about 30 minutes! You do not need to bleed your brakes using this method. Flashing the ABS Module to your VIN is always required after install.
Be careful when ordering the ABS Control Module online. There are multiple part numbers for this item depending on your year. It also easy to confuse with the hydraulic control unit.

Thank you for the video, this is next on the list, and sending in to UpFix for repair. I had to do the same thing on a past 2001 C5 Corvette.. so familiar with the process of getting rebuilt, just never knew it was an issue with JKs too... ug..
These modules are difficult to find right now! UpFix seems to be a good option.
Just took the ABS Control Module out of my 2010 JKU and it WAS NOT EASY to lift the module to get to the bottom screws, even with a short T-20 tool. Very difficult to do without putting a lot of stress on the hard lines. I also had to move a wiring harness and the wiper fluid lines out of the way. All-in-all though, got it out and sending it for rebuild while on vacation.
Great tutorial. Thanks. BTW - On Long Island, NY, most Jeep Dealers won't service a car they didn't sell, but I found one that would flash it for $1,081 + NY plus tax. NUTS!
that's terrible! you could have bought an obd2 reader for $30, and an app for $20 and flashed it yourself.
this is a brand new one, but what about a used one? how to reporgram? I'm being told it's too hard to do or impossible.
Borrow or buy a $400 scanner. It can be done at home.

A scanner at home can program and start up a new ABS module.

Thanks so much for the video but in my case is a 2014 JKU and do it has to be orden by vin number or just by the year it been a year a have this problem and they say is in back order it's there a way I can get it from others
You just need the specific year,s part and then you can have the part flashed by a direct link scanner, or the dealer.
I've got the same issue with my 09 commander, 4.7L V8. Would you wager this process is nearly identical between models (most parts are the same as grand Cherokee parts from what I've seen)

Can you drive your Jeep do the dealership after replacing it or does it need to be towed there????
You can drive it there, but be careful. You may not have all the ABS functions available until after the flash. My dealer was only 20 mins away and had no issues driving there.
I don't understand the dealer flash etc. I'm running a trail dash 2 tune on my jeep with their programmed ecm. How should I proceed?
The dealer flash basically syncs the new unit to your current VIN. The new ABS unit will only work after the dealer flash.
I returned my vehicle to factory settings in the dealership parking lot. I reinstalled the tune/settings after the flash and before driving home.
My buddy replaced the ABS Control Module in his son's Mazda RX-8 and he used a standard OBDII unit to 'save' the settings from his original module, replaced the unit, then reflashed it himself. I didn't have the right OBDII reader so I didn't attempt it. Don't know if it'll work for you - you might want to do more research.
Great well-made video and thank you for making it. Wondering if anyone heard anything good or bad about the online module rebuild shops like UpFix or Module Master. I'd like to save on that flash charge and pay $25-$75 less than a new module on a rebuilt module.
I'd be interested to hear more about rebuilding the original unit too. I unfortunately didn't have the down time to wait.
@@trailbadgeadventures8898 I received my ABS Control Module back from Module Master and I can't tell anything was done to it - I don't see how or if they opened it or replaced any components but I'll trust that they did.
I spent about $300 total for the rebuilt unit and shipping both ways and reinstalled it in about 20 minutes.
I had to employ your trick of using the persuasion bar to access the bottom slots and using the tape on the bottom bolts to hold them on the T-20 torx. This was the most difficult part of the uninstall/reinstall because I was very nervous about kinking/breaking the hard lines.
One observation was that it would be impossible to get a thick T-20 torx in the bottom slots - they're very narrow and only a short or long torx tool will work - if it's thick like it would be if you used a 1/4" socket to hold a torx bit, it will be too fat to fit the slot.
Also on my 2010 JKU I had to pop out and temporarily reroute a wiring harness that ran between the ABS Module and along the fender; I also had to temporarily reroute the wiper washer hoses.
Your video was straight to the point and covered the most critical parts and gave me the confidence I needed. I would do this again if needed.
Forgot to mention that it appears to be working, but I'll find out more this week when I'm driving to and from work.
Did you try a rebuilt abs module? If so what company did you use and where there any problems. You can not find new abs modules for a 2016 now they are all on backorder.

@@tkonzl6059 Thanks for the update. You are correct about being delicate with the hard lines! If you have the time, money, and supplies it's probably better to do this removing the lines first. I was comfortable trying it this way though!
Good point about their being small differences in the engine layout before the 3.6L in 2012.
Not to be the devil's advocate, but how could you know if the hydraulic control unit itself was bad? Or is that just very uncommon?
Good question, Luis! The code my Jeep was throwing was specific to the abs module.
