Today I'm finally getting around to resolving the reason why these pesky ABS and Traction Control Lights keep showing up!! It has been an intermittent problem with our 2012 Jeep Wrangler for the past several months and I finally got it diagnosed. In this video we will be doing a step by step replacement of the right front speed sensor. I hope this video helps anyone experiencing the same issue. In theory this process should be the same for 07-18, but Please do your own research. Below is a link to the part I used (PLEASE CONFIRM this is the same part number as the one you will need for your Jeep)

    Link for Torque Wrench: amzn.to/2HzzTfs

We have had several things that needed repair this year with ours: Death Wobble, Spark Plugs, Oil Pressure Sensor, Front Brakes, Front Speed Sensor...I took it to Parker 4 Wheel Drive to have the Death Wobble resolved, it cost us $3200 to have it fixed. Everything else I have done myself. I wish I would have videoed the spark plugs and the oil pressure Sensor, those would have been good videos for people. But I will be doing videos on rear brake replacement and new rear shocks coming soon, I have the parts, just need to install them... So I can relate! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

Thank you, this was very helpful. I just wanted to inform everyone that the sensor snapped off in the hole and I had to drill it out, carefully. Then I used a tap to get a grip on the piece and it popped out. It is magnetized so the tap was the only way to pull it out. Everything else in this video was helpful.

I just replaced one of these sensors....a note to your method. If you are replacing it on the passenger side, then an easier way to access the clip (after punching out the clips behind the shock) is to remove the air filter completely which really opens up the area above the passenger side connection so you can easily get your hands down there.

Is there any programing that needs to be done? My right rear speed sensor broke and I got all the lights on, took it to the dealer and they diagnosed and took care of it (very expensive). Then a week after the left front sensor broke, they diagnosed it free of charge but said that if I wanted to change it I would have to "have an expert program it", don't know if they were bluffing but I have the part ready to install just hesitant because of this.

    • @MileHighCampers
      @MileHighCampers  3 роки тому

That is interesting... not sure about that, I suppose maybe newer models need programming, but I did not need to re program anything when I did mine... not sure who you could check with to verify that aside from a Jeep mechanic that might not be affiliated with the dealer... sorry I could not be more help.

i went to change the front right on my jeep today and had some issues: first, the new sensor is about 5/16" longer than the oem one. It will not fit. I have to wait for the dealer to open tomorrow to see if I can get one the matches the original. the Autozone and napa did not work for me. Second, if you only take off the 21mm bolts you can pull caliper and rotor off together. Its alot easier.

The lights on the dash came on sporadically, sometimes I could go a few days without it coming on, than it would blink or stay on for a few days. When I got the old sensor off I inspected the cable and it was fraying in one spot (Forgot to include that in the video) so it must have been shorting out randomly.

You know I thought about including that in the video... I want to respect everyone's time so I struggle making my DIY videos sometimes because I try to include as much important info as I can but keep the video moving as quickly as possible... To answer your question, Yes! I found a spot on the wire that had worn down thru the rubber and frayed the wire inside. Which makes sense because this was an intermittent problem so my hunch is every time it was making contact with metal, it was probably shorting, causing the lights to come on! Thanks for the great question and for watching!!

Mile High Campers LOL it’s definitely a struggle to find a balance when making a video.
My first videos had terrible audio and I’ve about got that lined out for the most part.
I tend to listen more than I watch so the DIY stuff that’s all text doesn’t cut it for me. If it’s something I really really need to know I’ll set aside time to actually watch but that’s rare.

I did take it to a mechanic and he told me my battery was not strong enough to get a proper reading on which sensors it could be, but that one or two were bad...live in a rural area with not many people with the proper computer to diagnose. thanks in advance

These sensors almost never fail. Its a hall effect sensor theres nothing to fail. They either get dirty, theres a bad connection or a bad wire or a combination of those things but the sensor itself will never fail. What hsppens is the axel seal lets go and covers them in grease. Fix the seal and your troubles are over.

Right ok. Now it mskes sense. Ignor my question in the other comment. Yeah i thought the way they had routed the wire was goofy so i reran it over the top and tucked more towards the hub this way its not getting hit when going over rough terrain and keeping it towards the hub keeps it from getting into the frame bumper.

I do my best. I have a very extensive background as an industrial electrician and CNC technician but ive always tried to be a guy that knows a little bit about a lot. After awhile you realize everything is made from the same parts its all about application. From your tv or microwave to your car or your vacuum cleaner its all the same stuff just put together in a different order. Once you realize that its all down hill from there.

The sensor location is only in the driver side?

I believe there is a sensor on each wheel... my issue was on the passenger side.
