I had pulled the entire head apart, found the part with the issue, couldn't get it to move freely no matter how much WD40 I soaked it in. Couldn't find a replacement head in stock. Almost gave up and nearly bought a new vaccum. Then I find this video. "There is a T8 torx in here", 'no way that works' I say. BOOM. All comes apart with some pulling, miles of my long thick hair in there. Put it back together, runs good as new. Thank you so much! Only video on UA-cam that helped.

Spot On - fixed my brush not spinning; the problem was that the two female contacts had built up a coating of solidified dirt inside them so that the pins in the extension tube or beater head went in, but did not make electrical contact. It was pretty tough to shift as well, but now it works perfectly. Thank you!

    After many failed at
tempts to get the brush head to spin properly you are the only "expert" that explained the hidden screw holding bar drive. 5mins later having removed all the hidden hair the dyson is working perfectly. Thank you sir.

The electrical contacts in the main section were our cause of frustration! Amazing guidance, thank you, saved us from taking it to a repair shop, had no idea re the contacts and the wire going round the dust collection bin.

So happy, doing a happy dance. I went out and bought a T8 screwdriver and boom. The mechanism that rotates the brush was loaded with hair. Now it's all good again. Loved your accent and easy to follow instructions. Love from a Yorkshire girl living in New Zealand! Keep up the great work.

It worked!!! The black spindle behind the brush bar was the culprit - all cleaned and sorted, working brilliantly again. Buying a set of £7.99 torx screwdrivers is infinitely preferable to £57.99 for a new head! Thank you so much! Good job!

Thank you so much! You saved me from throwing out my V6 and having to buy a new vacuum. The vacuum repair shop told me the electrical problem couldn’t be fixed. I brought it back home, watched this video, dismantled the black thing behind the brush on the motor head, cleaned the plug of hair and used a can of compressed air on all the electrical contacts. It works just like new!!! Excellent video!

DUDE. You just saved me hundreds of dollars. I was literally shopping for a new vacuum and bummed that our dyson had crapped out after 5 years. I’ve even taken it apart and cleaned it a dozens times over the years. But I’ve never done the piece behind the brush. The thing works like it did when it was brand new. So grateful for this video

Back again for a full service - top and bottom. This time the trigger got stuck in the "on" position. I found a video to take the battery off and get inside where the trigger is. Found some little broken pieces and once they fell out, everything seems good to go. I wish you'd made a video on how to take of the battery and get into that chamber. I trust how you take care of the machine. I don't know if the little bits were broken before I took the battery out or if I broke it in the process. Hope you're still watching your channel. I bookmarked this video and your other on cleaning the cyclones on a V6. Really enjoy your tutorials and I watch and pause and just follow along. Soooooo helpful! THANK YOU AGAIN!

Yes, it's working again! Realized it was an electrical issue and you identified it. The fix? Lightly emery-boarding the contacts on the body. Thanks for the tip! This Dyson's been through a lot. Ironically, it stopped working right after I washed the HEPA filter, so some people think the cleaning led to the breakdown - an evil strange coincidence!

Thank you so much! My motor head was spinning intermittently so I checked all the electrical connections in sections and concluded that the fault was with the spinning mechanism. Just like you mentioned, there was a lot of hair wound up behind the black spinner. I couldn’t believe how much was in there! I used some tweezers to get them all out and tested it and voila! Good as new!

  • @jarranrapsey6440

Really helpful - thank you. I had cleaned the head, cleaned the contacts, but for me the key was the torx head screw inside the spindle. I couldn't see any hair externally but when I removed the spindle, there was an incredible amount hair wrapped underneath that was preventing the spindle from working correctly. Once this was removed everything started working correctly.

This was the best tutorial I have found and I have been able to do a complete service on the machine As you said, it is now like having a new machine. In my case as well, it was hair wound around behind the black driving bush pin - I was quite shocked how much was in there chugging it up but I also cleaned up the contacts and it all works really well - thank you very much. I’m more than a little surprised none of this is on the troubleshooting sections or FAQs of the Dyson website - hmmm…..

Outstanding tip to find and clean the canister contact points. I did everything that all the other UA-camrs suggested and it still did not work. Stampy's secret fix saved me a lot of money (and Dyson's reputation with me). After cleaning the brush bar, it still wouldn't spin smoothly - just sputtered. Tried your short cut connecting the handle end to the brush end without the pole. IT WORKED! So I just cleaned the connections for the pole and the whole thing is great. New ones are running between $500 - $650 today. Bless you! Subscribed, liked, bookmarked and will do the same with your detailing the V6 video. THANK YOU!

Thanks so much! Tried all the usual fixes, but as two different heads weren't rotating I knew it had to be electrical rather than a hair clog. Exactly as you said, it was a bit of fluff up behind the bin that was stubborn enough to stay there even after blowing it all over. Pulled it out and all working again.😊

My brush head was only doing a 3/4 turn before stopping. Have previously taken the head fully apart, cleaned it out & reassembled but would still only spin 3/4 turn.
Only after watching this was I made aware of the screw to remove the helix drive part. Found lots of compacted hair inside. Removed it & Eureka, A fully turning brush head.
I also took the handle apart to remove & clean the filters which sit next to the pcb on the main motor part.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just purchased an aftermarket replacement power roller brush on Amazon yesterday because of this issue, but something told me to check out videos on UA-cam on how to troubleshoot the OEM roller brush not spinning, and I found you! Long story short, I followed your guidance, and VIOLA! My roller brush works perfectly. Greetings from New York City. Thank you! I have an older Dyson stick V6 and my brush actually has a motor underneath or inside the roller head. When you remove the roller, there is another long piece that I assume holds that motor for the roller. I did all the cleaning and nothing. Then you mentioned to take off the canister that holds the dirt and pointed to the contacts by the handle. I blew some canned air into there and also wiped down the ridiculously small contacts on the back of the canister and it did the trick! Thanks again.

Had problem for months and couldn’t fix it by cleaning head. Thanks for this video which explained it could be the electrical connectors. Cleaned these on the main unit behind the bin and now works! Thanks

Yes! Waded through so many videos before I got to yours - the only one that fully deals with the problem. If not for this I prob would have had to buy a whole new vac.. thank you!

Very helpful. It helps!! It was the main unit connection problem but most of the youtube video keep advising me to clean the head instead.

Thanks for this video, The contacts next to the motor and the bin were the guilty onces. I took the opportunity and cleaned all the rest too, works as good as new now!

THANKs for the vid! My issue was down in the brush mechanism..had to dig out some hair from round the part that spins the brush. Works like a champ again!

Thank you! Never thought that I would get this expensive vacuum working again. I was going to throw it out. Tried removing the hairs from the brush without any luck and then saw the part about the electrical contacts. Sure enough the contacts on the clear plastic part were corroded and I cleaned them off with steel wool. Works like new again!

Taking that T8 screw out from inside that spinning shaft (5:48) and cleaning behind the shaft fixed my vac.
There was so much hair in there that I was sure it was entwined around a rubber grommet which turned out to be just a lot of very tightly twisted hair.
Thank you againn for sharing and making the world a better place :)

09:40... Yep this was the problem. I have 2 spinning brush heads and neither worked so I knew that wasn't the issue. Sure enough, a piece of lint got lodged between the contacts on the back of the collection drum after the last emptying. Once removed both heads are working again. Major time saver tracking down the problem. Thanks, M8!!

Thank you for the tips. I just fixed my Motörhead by looking at the connections at the canister. One connector slid to the side so very little connection. I forced it back in place and it works like day 1. 👍🙌🏻🙌🏻
