Sorry about the audio, everyone! I did my best to salvage it and thought it was passable enough to keep the video. What's your reaction to the complicated construction of this machine and the position of the nozzle PCB?
I have a similar issue. brush roll not working. I'm gonna Use your diagnostics and see what i can figure out. I cleaned the brush head to make sure it wasn't clogged. Sometimes it spins but mostly doesn't spin.
Thanks for the vid. I have this same problem on a DC50. When I press the switch I’m getting 120v+ DC (I think 160v) out of the motor brush area. I actually left the brushes in by accident and there was a huge spark. So definitely power coming through. I sanded the brush contact points. But when I put the motor back together, the white plastic piece with brushes and the can, I don’t get any voltage where the brushes are. I read that there’s some safety mechanism to prevent current overdraw in case the motor is shot, maybe the breaker that you show here, which would explain no voltage when the motor is assembled. The vac is over 10 years old and maybe insulation on the windings of the motor gave out. Sadly the motor is impossible to find on its own and I have to buy an assembly off eBay for $50. Hoping that works, I’ll update my comment ✌️
Ha ha I love your intro and ending. James Dyson with his snooty way of speaking. I hear that a lot of people who work at Dyson are not very happy and lots of people have left. It does not surprise me. I'm in the UK and just recommend anyone here buys SEBO as a full size as they are just brilliant and so durable :)
LOL, I'm glad you enjoyed my attempt to poke fun at Dyson. I agree, for the money the Sebo can't be beat... particularly for those of you across the pond!
I have been watching your videos a lot. Very good and informative content. This was a lost cause and VERY complex to take apart. I have DC40 MKII (EU version of US Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2). I am not willing to take it apart if it fails. Only things what I have done has been unclogging the inner hose, changing the cleaning head and taking apart the whole cyclone pack. Too much trouble. Thank god I have Sebo Felix. Ending of this video was hilarious🤣
Hi Matt, hey buddy one of your more humorous videos, LOL, I loved it especially the ending. I loved the ending. Anyway, you know how I feel about DYSON JUNK period. In my opinion, from every perspective as you have stated in the past they are over engineered for a reason and in my opinion the reason is to make them as unfriendly to service as humanly possible. I hate products that are purposely over engineered to be extremely complicated and very expensive to service. In other words, they are trying to discourage EVERYBODY from getting involved servicing these junk piles and much better to get the customer to purchase a new Dyson. Especially when parts availability is so terrible, probably for a reason too. You have a very smart customer and most if not all of your loyal customers are your friends, I can see that. Just another reason why you are so successful. Great video for a Dyson video. The best part of this video was watching you put it in the trash as all Dyson's should end up in the trash. Thanks, buddy, for the entertainment as always. John in Ohio
Rubbish..I ve just done a cheap belt and filter replacement of a DC 04 and cleaned out the cyclone and the suction is tremendous. Machine is 20 years old and cost me £10 about $14 ..the ball machines I agree are not reliable but DC 04 ,07 033 and Zorbster are the ones to go for ,clutch or none clutch version
Hello just wanted to put this out there because I was having issues with my roller not working. The model of my Dyson was from target up13 or origin ball animal origin. I tried the whole resetting the button 5x while laying it down from another video and I also bought a new cleaner head off of Amazon. Nothing worked for me and even Dyson sent a new cleaner head but still didn’t work. I followed the video up until 5:46 then messed around with the actual reset button and was like hey doesn’t hurt to try now so I tried it and that’s what worked for me! Good luck to everyone trying to fix their Dyson! My vacuum is less than 6 months of owning it so I was really bummed out about it not working but hopefully you guys get to find a solution!
Any thoughts on a roller that tries to spin. If we give it a nudge it spins for just a second...won't spin on the hard wood or carpet...its only 2yrs old...thanks so much.
You will not get power to the brushroll if the vacuum is in upright mode due to the microswitch in the vacuum. When the changeover valve is in hose or upright setting, the brushroll does not spin because if it spins and the vacuum is stationary you'll burn the floor or overheat the brush. Sometimes PCB can be at fault.
Hey @houseofvacuums ---> In most electronic PCBs, it seems the capacitor will typically go bad first. The big black button on the pcb you showed us. Can you tell me what type of Capacitor those are? What Farad and voltage units, and any other values listed on it? Those can be purchased on Digikey for cheap, and are easy to replace rather than replacing the whole PCB. Just need a soldering iron, solder, and flux. :)
Thanks for the question, Eric. I have never messed around with testing individual elements of the PCB on this particular machine. I have tried it on other machines in the past with varying results. I personally don't do it because of the voltages and the liability involved... I always go with factory from Dyson either new or used for insurance liability.
Matt, if you're still monitoring this video, I have a question about a Dyson Animal 2 head that spins intermittently. I tested the continuity of the brushroll head and there was none. I checked the continuity of both leads and they had continuity. My question is can you purchase the electric motor seperately or do you have to replace the entire brushroll head? Thanks for the awesome video
Hi Kirk! The belt is not replaceable on these direct drive units. Dyson doesn't even sell parts for the drive system. You need to buy the whole brushbar motor housing asssembly, part number 923941-01 and it will set you back about $100. Hope that helps!
I do not get continuity when testing leads to the base of the vacuum (where the roller is). Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot this or am I out of luck? Thanks.
Hi Jay! You shouldn't get continuity through those, but if you "unlock" the handle like you are vacuuming the floor, turn on the machine and then check the plug you should be getting DC voltage through that plug. If you aren't, it is either the circuit board or the micro switch. Hope that helps!
I pulled one out a dumpster where it belongs. It has the same issue . I'm not taking the stupid ball apart. I'll bypass the beater switch so it's on all the time. If that doesn't work ....back in the dumpster it goes.
I think you missed something in the troubleshooting. Did you know that the beater roller does not work unless the cacuum is in operating position. you start the machine and engage the beater roller but it does not engage until you place the machiine in the downwrite position. I think your issue was with a faulty breaker in the switch mechanism.
I did test it out on the floor, but cut it for times sake. I tested the microswitch for the "upright brush off" mode and it was good. The PCBs on these guys are notorious for going bad. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!

Just watched that and it’s disgusting but not surprising, I despise James dyson and all his useless crappy products, the reporter told that woman that dyson is a company brits are proud of, I’ve never been proud of dyson or James dyson as a human being, he voted for Brexit ( worst thing to have happened to the uk in many many years ) as well which is disgusting behaviour for a person who outsourced to another country, the guy needs bringing down in a big way, to a point where he has to stop producing overpriced crap I’m also not proud to be a Brit this country and the majority of the people who live in it are an embarrassment to society
Dyson must have made the only 10,000 part vacuum. Isn't Dyson the brand that has the guy in the commercial who designed this bragging about being an engineer? LOL No wonder these things are so fragile. I hope he doesn't design buildings!

We were an all Dyson family, but as they tend to be glitchy and more difficult to repair than other brands, we are replacing with Sharks.
I was not prepared for the ending! 🤣💀

You are correct, the handle needs to be in the unlocked position. In this case, it was when I tested it.
Good videos . Hi from Ralph's sewing and vacuum Palm DesertCA.

There is a power inverter inside the machine that likes to go out. The nozzle runs off DC and the machine is AC. It is possibly that may be going out.
I tested for continuity like you did at 2:15 and got nothing. What now?
I just want to change the belt how is that done? Thanks
