Great video. Clear and concise demonstration. Wife purchased a perfectly operational Dyson V8 plus attachments for $15 at a Thrift Store. It just needed some TLC. The video had the exact information I needed to clean the whole assembly. THANKS! 👍👍👍👍👍
Super helpful!! I have a dyson animal V8 bought somewhere between 2016-2018. Only difference was inside the motor, I had 3 cog around the main one. Took me some time to make sure they were perfectly realigned before reassembly. And I didn’t had to undo the T head that connects the rotor to the brush. It just stayed there while I was pulling the motor out. It is working again 😁
Awesome video. Straight to the point. Great camera angle. My motor is starting to make some noise, I'm going to pull it apart before it gets any worse. Mine has the T-head and a retention clip on the motor. Must be an older model. Thank you for this!
Thanks man for the clear steps, helped me repair the roller of a v12 slim - pretty much the same, has some extra bearings though, guess that is what it should make it more stable
Thanks for this. Turns out with mine that the planetary gears are the problem. Motor turns freely on it's own, the gear assembly and bearing is free all on their own, but when assembled it's too stiff for the motor.
Yes, I had a similar problem. I'll tell you how I solved it: I cut a few mm from the rubber that presses the motor. The problem is that that rubber puts too much pressure on the motor and it in turn puts pressure on the gear assembly.
Surprised that for such an expensive vacuum it has such a potential for failure. I might just look for the motor and head online, as one unit. Not cheap I’m sure .
Ok I pulled mine apart, however it looks like you could easily free up your motor with just a small turn with your wire pliers and you could then turn just using your fingers. Mine is very tight still even though I’ve been using a regular pliers and it’s not loosening at all. Also I don’t have that special grease you have would WD40 work?
Best video I’ve seen on this stuff, thanks. My V11 brush head is identical to yours. It stopped spinning after 4 years usage but turns freely by hand. All other brush heads are spinning fine. Is it worth me disassembling if everything is moving freely? Are there other reasons for not spinning that are fixable? I don’t think it’s water damage. Thanks.
My main attachment stopped spinning 2 days ago, i thought it was because of hairs that got caught or the unwashed filters. I did full maintenance but its still not working. Im going to try your way, although im too scared to mess with wires
Do these two checks to determine if the problem is mechanical or electrical: 1. Does the brush drum spin when you move it manually? If it does not rotate manually, the motor or planetary gearbox is probably blocked and you will have to disassemble the brush to identify the problem. 2. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohm) between the two terminals of the brush. The multimeter should indicate between 20 and 50 Ohm. If the multimeter does not indicate anything, the wires are probably damaged. On my channel you can find tutorials for both problems (mechanical, electrical). Good luck and please write here if you come to a conclusion or if I can help you with other information.
Can you do another video with the V8 animalpro+? My roller also stopped turning, but it looks different than the one than in the video. Mine has a metal "t" cross at the end. I can't get the breakdown any further than about 3:38 because of that difference.
Just did my V8. Didn’t need to touch the “t” at the end. Just pull the motor out clean and grease. The planetary gears go into the shaft first into the stubs then the motor. Spin the “t” until gears mesh and push the motor until you can put the screws back in.
Very helpful video. Only difference is that when i pulled out the motor with the gear it had the 3 other gears that go around it stuck there as well, and it was a pain in the ass to get it back innside with the right gear position. Ended up pushing the top part with the 3 rods for the 3 gears down and out so i could mount it before sliding the whole thing back into the casing and secure it. recommend running it a bit before full assembly to listen for gear whine. Mine was off by 1 notch and made a grinding whirring sound so i had to repeat the whole process ^^
Thank you for your appreciation. Yes, it can be a challenge to reassemble the planetary gear assembly. I'm glad you managed to put it back together and it works.
Hello thanks for the video, my brush is not jammed, it moves by hand, but doesn’t spin when connected to vacuum, other attachments spin, so it’s this brush that’s the problem. Any ideas what it could be or what I should look at.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohm) between the two terminals of the brush. The multimeter should indicate between 20 and 50 Ohm. If the multimeter does not indicate anything, the wires are probably damaged. It could also be a faulty motor, but most likely it is a broken wire or an imperfect contact.
I have two V8s the motorized attachements are fine because it works flawlessly in one V8 but in the other the most it might do is briefly spin but stops immediately every time ...otherwise that unit works fine for suction. Looking for a fix? Only good thing is I bought that one on youtube for an adjusted price of $35 including one wand. figured it is worth 35 just for parts but my wife uses it to do all the stuff with narrow nozzle to save battery life in the motorized wand one. But can this be fixed? Does not appear to be a connection so I imagine a transistor or safety?
I have a faulty Dyson V8 vacuum cleaner with a similar problem. I hope that in the following days I will have time for him. I will try to make a video with the diagnosis and repair process. I hope it will be useful to you.
Show about if the motor is spinning very strong and the little chrome cross-bar seems to be spinning with full strength…..until you place the brush head into the holder and then the motor balks and gets hung up? Anyhow have experience with this scenario?

mine is spinning too fast and it forces the suck motor to cut out like i have a flat battery, if i hold the brush so it stops spinning the the suck motor is fine.
Hello, my Dyson V8 Absolute brush spins for a couple of seconds when turned on and then stops. The motor runs, but when the brush is attached, it stops. What could be the problem? Everything is cleaned. Thank you.
I have the v8 animal and it is different from yours. I did everything up to 4:08 and now I cannot get the inner cylinder out. I have a different tip on mine. It looks like a silver T (or cross) that does not come off. When I try to spin it by hand, there is a lot of resistance. When I loosen it a bit by wedging a screwdriver in side the tube and forcing it out 1/4", it spins more freely. Should this spinning cross spin freely? I am afraid to pull too hard on that power connector terminal because I am afraid I will rip it off. Any ideas?
I think the pin needs to be removed in some way in order to get the bearing (?) out, but I was unable to do that. Looks like a way to prevent easy repair 🙄
This is a used part, even if it looks new. The issue is caused by the user. This is why you should never pass through wet surfaces or try to clean the brush with water.

Hi, when pulled the component, two small white part drop like screw. I couldn’t find where it suits. How can i send you photo?
@@techfixPOV There are 3 planetary gear groups, and assembling them is difficult. I've been trying on and off since yesterday, but I still haven't managed to do it :))
Is your vacuum cleaner model Dyson V8? If this is the case, it means that the vacuum cleaner also works permanently, not just the brush. Probably the battery is defective or the vacuum cleaner button is constantly pressing the battery button. Do you hear that click when you press the vacuum cleaner button? Does the button slide normally?
great video thank you , I’m working on sons 7 now top motor works , but bottom brush does not spin , tested for volts near trigger but read that everything needs to be connected before the batteries send volts to brush head , so plan to take 12v off car battery and put into the brush head motor though those two wires is that a good test
Best 'how to' video I've ever followed, clear and with no messing around. Fixed my mother in law's Dyson and she's super pleased. Cheers!
Glad it helped! Cheers!

Great peace of advice on how to. No other way. Thank you for this! Just completed our Dyson.

Thanks for this awesome video. Had to fix our V8. Since my wife decided to use water to clean everything and water getting into the the motor.
Glad it helped!
Mine too. Give it some push on rotor and it started to work without disassembly 🙏
This is also a solution, except that it does not always work. It depends on how damaged the motor is.

Yes, it is possible that the opposite end bearing is stuck. When you have the brush mounted, it should be able to be turned very easily by hand.
Great Video, Thanks
Glad it helped
Guess I'll return it Costco since it's under 3 years old and just get a new one.
3 years warranty? Are you sure it has a 3-year warranty?
I took mine apart and sprayed silicone lube on it since thats the only lube I had. Motor still wouldn't spin. Wondering if its fried
Have you disassembled the brush to check if the motor shaft is not blocked?
The motor shaft should be easy to turn by hand.
@@techfixPOV yeha the motor shaft spins freely using my fingers. And I added silicone lube but after connecting the motor back it still doesn't spin.
