Once again you have given us solutions for a problem! The wastebasket is lovely! Your home must have many special decorations! Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Love it, and I don't mind the wrinkles either. I use gesso over my plastic buckets that I turn into garden planters. I can add whatever color acrylic paint I want to the gesso which makes for a great primer and, I find a bit more affordable to use over 5 gallon plastic buckets than chalk paint. Also, since I love the vintage/aged look, I will sometimes use a distress ink lightly over the wrinkled napkin surface before final seal, and that gives a very aged vintage look to these otherwise ugly 5-gallon plastic buckets. Thank you for all your great inspiration!! I love the way that wastebasket turned out.
Another good project. Been wanting to do the 2 small trash cans in my 2 bathrooms and now I think I will... and as always because I've watched you for so long "WHEN IN DOUBT-CHALK PAINT FIRST" cuz it's like MAGIC works every time for decoupage. See you next week.
Bless you, Gf. Thanks for the message. Another great project! There’s been times I wanted wrinkles, I think it adds character. Love to Hubs and critters. I love you to bits!
Thank you Patti. I’ve been wanting to do my kitchen trash can and would not have thought of the chalk paint first. You just saved me a lot of wasted time🥰
Hi Patti! I love this! These are the exact colors in my master bathroom, too. So pretty! Great idea turning something so plain into something unique! I just love your creativity! Personally, I do like the wrinkles. It gives the object character. I'm definitely going to so this. Tfs! Have a blessed day! 💖
Thank you Nancy, I was worried that some were going to dislike the wrinkles but I know that a lot of people do like them. I hope you give it a try, it was a very satisfying project! Patti
Thank you for showing this. I have some Clemson napkins I have been wanting a trash can for my son bathroom so I'll take some of those napkins fix him a trash can. So thank you again
Hi Pati....nice project, it got me thinking, I have a pink basket in my craft room that I was going to throw out because of the color, I've had it forever, but now I think I might do this...tfs
Oh my gosh this is perfect I can't wait to try this for myself and for my mom!. I bought several garbage cans like this and drew different things for every holiday but I'm not an artist and there are so many pretty papers and napkins. Thanks for sharing your talent with us. If I need to clean this how do I do it?
Hi Dora, I personally don't like Mod Podge b/c it can get very very sticky on surfaces, it would work but I'm not a fan. You would need also need a top coat over it. Patti
Hi there. Looks beautiful. I have a question - when working with plastic if original color is ok do you still need to put chalk paint or will napkin adhere to plastic directly? Thanks! Jo :o)
Nice project. One question: Why didn't you use the water technique for decoupage? Meaning: put the top layer of the napkin face down on a clear plastic folder, smooth it with a bit of water and press it onto the surface? Or: Decoupage glue first, place the napkin, smooth it out with seran wrap and put the glue overtop. You would have by far less wrinkles. Or are they part of your desing? ;-)
Hi there! Yes, the wrinkles were part of the plan. I get a lot of private messages asking me why I'm so against wrinkles. LOL/ I'm not although I prefer no wrinkles. The techniques you mention are way I use when I am trying to avoid wrinkles. This look gives it character and the no wrinkle look seems to look like something is painted on which I really like. :). Thanks for stopping by! Patti
Where can I find this product, the Decoart Napkin Glue? I haven’t been able to purchase it locally or on Amazon. Out of Stock and they don’t know when or if it will be available again??

Beautiful...I love it ty
Thank you. Very useful video
What a lovely garbage can😃. How do you clean your decoupage projects? Tfs...
I like doing decoupage projects.
Can gesso be used instead of chalk paint on plastic?
I think you can use it since Gesso is the Italian word for chalk . :)
Great tutorial, Patti. Oh, and your paintbrushes look just like mine! :) (Lilly Picadilly)
Thank you and I'm so glad to hear that someone elses brushes look like mine. I love the way they look - you can see what we do all day. LOL

Hi and thank you! You would need to the chalk paint the plastic or it won't stick. It peels easily without it. :)
Patti
Thanks!@@patioelf

@@patioelf Ur welcome xxx
I separate my napkins before I start the process. We use the white removed napkins when we eat. I see no reason to toss them when we can use them.
Jane Goodwin yeah Patti- you should try to be perfect like this person! There’s one in every group right? 😂
Jane Goodwin, I have done that too if it is sizeable. They also come in handy to wipe a brush or catch a drip. I like being resourceful. Lol.
