Patti!! Yeah! I'm forwarding a lot of your videos to my friends that are opening an upcycle store (like taking an old buffet and turning it into a bathroom stand with inlaid sink) for more ideas and ways of personalizing items for clients. I adore these and they give me so much inspiration!
rubymimosa I love hearing that-inspiration is half the battle ! Thank you for forwarding the video's to your friends too, that is high praise indeed! Patti
Patti, thank you so much for showing us the different techniques. They all came out so beautiful!! I especially love the pink bottle. Very lovely! You always make such pretty things. Thanks again ♥ ~Jill
Hi Patti, I LOVE your video. I'm new in this, and it feels I'm not winning. But having a look at this video. I will give it a another try. Thank you so much.
+Sylvia Smith Hi Syliva, I'm sorry I'm so late with responding. I hope you're having better luck once you watched the video. Pleas contact me (I'm also on Facebook @ Upcycle with Decoupage) if you need more help ok? Thank you for letting me know! Patti
Lol, another video I saved to my watch later list like 5 yrs ago! I always forget about saran wrap, but I've only seen it used to smooth out the bubbles, almost in a crumpled ball... I've never seen it stretched like that! I also hadn't seen anyone say NOT to use the saran wrap piece again, use and toss (I seen that in your Leather shoe Vid from yrs ago). I actually had a coupon from Glad a couple yrs back they sent me after a box of trash bags I bought at BJ's, so a very big box, and the second roll had most of the bags with almost like a pre-rip or like a perforated line across the top of every bag so when I pulled the tie strips to tie it and pull it out, they'd rip no matter how light the bag was... When I contacted them, they mailed me a bunch of coupons for free or almost free glad products and saran wrap was one thing I bought in bulk, so LARGE rolls of it in a 3 pack.... Well, I rarely USE saran wrap 😂😂 so, 2 yrs later and I'm still on the FIRST roll lol! I use Tupperware for leftovers and usually put other stuff in ziplock bc it just works better. That being said... I now have a great use for 2 of those rolls and I'll bet I use on roll on decoupage faster than the one for food that I bought 2 yrs ago 😂😂
I have a big remodeling job in my kitchen to do but, I'm on a tight budget and have turned to decoupage to spruce things up. This is a great tutorial. I think I like the saran wrap method best (looks easy!) but for drawers and things, maybe the fan brush will work best. So many ideas!!
39Bosski I am so happy you were able to find some help here. I started doing decoupage for the reason you mentioned, I had so many things I wanted to beautify but it all seemed so expensive and daunting. There's a page on Facebook called Mason Jar Madness and Decoupage, if you friend them you'll find a lot of people on there who have done furniture and all kinds of projects, in case you need some guidance or a little inspiration! Patti
I love this video... never knew there were different methods. I started decoupaging just a few months ago, and my family teases me saying that given a chance I would decoupage them too! :p thanks for uploading!
+Sharika Chandran I love hearing that Sharika! It sounds like this is the channel for you! My family (especially my husband) says the same thing to me! :) Patti

LOVING your channel. Thank you for putting this video together especially for us newbies. I have an old VHS cassette storage cabinet that I would like to repurpose-your video has given me some great ideas. I especially love the movie trailer style you use to present your videos-very original and creative. I notice you use a lot of French influence in your projects-is that your cultural background? Just curious. Thanks a million for all of the great ideas and encouragement.

Patti, did you paint the pink bottle with metallic pink paint first before decoupaging it? If so, do you need to put mod podge over the paint before putting the napkin flowers on?
+rforgot Thank you and I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond. You can use a regular iron and you do want to keep the iron moving. Dear Patti, I have never decoupaged before and can't find instructions for this project. I want to decoupage inkjet photos on the cover of a book to give my grandson for his 13th Birthday and the cover would have photos of all 13 years of his life. One video suggested that inkjet photos will smear. Do I need to use laserjet photos, or can I spray the inkjet photos with lacquer before decoupaging them? Or should I place a Scotch Self-Seal laminate, used for photos, over the photos first? Top only? Or Top and Back? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks JJ
Hi Patti, I love your tutorials. I’d love to buy a pair of those scissors, but I don’t seem to find them on the below link of decoupage.com. Is there another simpler link that leads me directly to see those scissors you are using? Kind regards, Margaretha
HI,could you please suggest if the napkin' s background color is green with red flowers but I want my wood bench color to be yellow. In this scenario would green color of napkin will show up on yellow color? I am going to cut the flowers but I am suspecting still little green color will get cut with it. Please suggest what to do. Thank you
Hi. Did you paint the bottle and if yes, was it with chalk paint. Where do you get the chalk paint, I went to your website in the link but it's not opening.
+Ann Smyth Hello Ann! Yes, it's right under the video in the description box of the video, and I'll add it here for you. Thank you! upcyclewithdecoupage.vpweb.com/blog/DIY+3+Decoupage+Techniques+Good+for+Beginners!.aspx Patti
so its Ok to use other sealers on Craft Chalk paint besides wax? Good to know, been looking for an Answer cuz I wanted a matte finish not satin like the wax leaves it. how has the watering can help up, Im guessing that u hand wash everything...
I've been practicing spray painting bottles and the paint always scratches off. Do you have this problem after you decoupage? Also, is Mod Podge "decoupage glue"? I'm getting so confused. 😜
Hi Juli! Are you using a spray paint that is made specifically for glass like Zinnser? That is crucial, but it also very important to wait until it fully cures. Curing is different from drying. Dry means if you touch it - it feels dry. Cure means it will feel dry to the touch but because it is a thicker medium it takes a few weeks to completely dry all through. Mod Podge is a decoupage glue but I have to say it's probably my least favorite. Napkin decoupage glue is the absolute best for napkins but there is also a good decoupage glue called Collage Podge. It is confusing so don't ever worry about asking ok? :) Patti
Hello Curly, i have decoupaged over unfinished wood in the past, the decoupage glue works as a sealer so it's ok. Glass is a different story. Decoupage can easily peel away from glass although when you're making something that is just for decorative purposes *so it won't be handled a lot) you should be fine. Patti
my beautiful napkin became stuck to the plastic wrap and when I pulled both sides to straighten out the wrinkles, the image broke in half. what could I have done to avoid this?
+dorothy franks Hi Dorothy! I know that Michaels sells chalk paint, were they out of it? It's also available at Joann Fabric, Hobby Lobby, and Home Depot as well as on line on my website. But it sounds like you would like to purchase it right away. Make sure you ask someone in the store where it is so you can go home with some. I hope you like it after all the trouble you've gone through! :) Patti
I know you decoupage with napkins but can you decoupage with a actual drawing? I wud love to decoupage my own drawings. I just use regular pencil/pen/marker, i dont use the artist kind or markers tho. So it would be great if you answer that for me, i really want to make something for a friend and of course something for myself.
+PazElDog Hello Paz, yes you can use your own drawings but I would suggest making laser copies of your work. (any copy center will have laser copiers) If you have an ink jet printer like most homes do, the copy will run and bleed. Depending on the pencil/pen and markers that you use they might also bleed or run. The safest bet is to make the laser prints. You can follow these instructions to use your own prints (most of my other video's show how to decoupage with napkins) hope this helps. ua-cam.com/video/3cunvhEJytk/v-deo.html Patti
Hi I loved your video. I have always crafted for my kids as they were growing up but I never got into it at this level just little things like Valentines gift bags or Christmas gift bags (made from scratch) so I'm surprised at how cute and elegant your projects turned out when using napkins I am now inspired lol thank you sharing :) OH and I am also now hooked to your channel :)
+Lauren Barron some say yes, some say no. You can use it but I will say it can look a little like plastic. But if you're starting out it's a good way to go. :) Patti
+patioelf im trying to been practising on spoons and spatulas but seems very hard keep ripping paper or running the color going to buy some mod podge i think.. do u think there is a difference in quality from mod podge to PVA glue? thanks for replying :)
Yes definitely Lauren, the PVA glue is thicker and doesn't contain the same ingredients so it may get tacky faster. When using napkins I've found it's best to use a napkin decoupage glue. You can get those in the craft store or on my web site. :) The glue is more gelatinous as opposed to creamy. Patti
I just tried the iron technique which went perfectly but when I then went on to put a coat of mod podge on to seal it. I got wrinkles in places, any idea why and can I iron over again once this dries? Thank you for any advice on this x
+Cosmic Pants Hello...if the decoupage glue isn't completely covering the surface or if the decoupage glue is applied too lightly, those spots will wrinkle when you put another coat over it. I tend to have a heavy hand when I apply decoupage glue so in my newer videos I stress to make sure that the surface is completely covered and with a heavier coat than you may normally use. Yes you can iron over it again, but make sure to use parchment paper between your surface and the iron ok? Hope this helps! Patti
Oh thank you ever so much Patti that's great help and yes my little project turned out so much better in the end that next time I will use the same technique and a little more glue of course. Thanks again a fan from the UK x

hello. LOVE your videos. on the heart shaped box, why did you apply a layer of decoupage glue on top, before the varnish? is that necessary?
