Reviewing MKBHD’s Panels Wallpaper App (it’s bad)

- Constructive criticism:
1. Remove ads. The goal should be to get as many people to enjoy the app. Nobody likes ads, and it ruins the user experience. Especially for something like an app for wallpapers.
2. Lower the price of the app. $12 a month, or $50 a year is too much for something thats as simple as a wallpaper that people can get online for free.
The 'competitor' app, WallpaperZ did a cleaner job.
No Ads
8K wallpapers
No need to watch an ad to download a wallpaper.
2/month or 20/year.
The reviews of both the apps on the App Store say it best.

Yeah I dont blame you. The concept of the app is great. But its not executed very well. It pushes people away. You, me, and many others.
Same here. Happy to support good creators, but not for wallpapers that cost more than my Apple Music or UA-cam Premium subscriptions.

This app is the way you make money out of nothing. Create a problem that never existed and sell the *solution*. Are we really buying wallpapers now. No wonder america ppl are in such big debt, stop buying things you literally dont need and wont change anything in your life..
Im actually getting mad seeing things like that being released. The truth is this is just a waste of money. And for those who say "ill spend my money on what i like" - go ahead but dont pretend its somekind of "flavour spending" this is just stupid spending...

Always liked your channel, and this makes me like it even more! Seems like a lot of UA-camrs in the tech space are scared to criticize the biggest channel in their field in fear of backlash. Even when it is deserved.
I get the notion of him needing the feedback but at this point it’s beating a dead horse. I’m sure he has enough feedback under his comment section of his own videos. I’m sure at this point he understands.
Theres no such thing as 'too much feedback' especially since there are people that are defending his app, and others that aren't. The more feedback and constructive criticism, the better.
It worked with TeamPixel, and it'll work for MKBHD, and the end user get a better product. win/win

This shows that he lives in a bubble, you're already winning by ads, if he puts this price: $1 or even $2 at month and $10 at year, with the same sh!t system of watch a minute ad to download I'm sure lot of people buy it.

$.99 a month or $9.99 a year. But even then, there's no waifu wallpapers in it. So a no for me.😊

That's a hugeeeeeeeeee phone it's abnormal. MKBHD is getting greedy hes losing his mind and credentials. i wouldn't even pay £1 for it. there are only a few UA-camrs i am subscribed with and hes definitely not one of them.
He didn't "work" on his doctorate degree.. he was given a honorary degree - he admitted that the app was for a small niche group of people..
First his overpriced basic shoes he got youtubers to shill and now a lame app. Also, it's an honorary doctorate from a school no one has heard of.
I just say his channel and I see it as a cash grab, not as anything else. Basically doesn't feel like it is really by him, but more of a, please give me money, app. It feels so out of place when I think of him or his channel.
MK has gone total celeb these days. There are people making better reviews and it just seems like he mails it in these days. And no way in hell I will spend that kind of money on a background.
I think MKBHD did not do enough research, look at competitors, and did not think of the app from a user perspective.

$50 and it still has ads?! There's no freaking way I would ever use ANY app for that price! For that kind of investment I better own part of the company. This is what you see in typical crowdfunding when they're trying to raise capital for their idea. I'm not that interested in wallpapers as a thing but if I didn't see this video and just randomly came across that app I would think it was a scam and someone was trying to falsely tie his name to it to boost its credibility. Hard pass.

That’s true! You do see two small previews of their work, I just wish they added a feature to where you can actually go in and take a look at their portfolio prior to following them.
Someone put 300 wallpapers from panels online already....they all look bad.

@@MarksTech oh, i missed that part. Honestly, i think he was approached by an app team, paid a big chunk, and signed his name to it with promo guarantees. I find it extremely hard to believe he came up with the pricing model and also let it launch in this condition while having any direct control.
It’s expensive but certainly not more than Apple Music or Hulu or Netflix for sure. You compared those monthly prices to an annual price. And his goal might not even be getting the most users, it could be (and probably is) making a niche wallpaper app for people super interested into that kind of stuff where 99.9% of people won’t buy it. You still don’t have to purchase the app. He can go online and obviously see there are many free wallpaper apps. This one also has a free tier I believe. People just look for so many different things to get mad about in the year 2024.

He’s just working with other companies trying to help get them on the map. That’s good business practices. Personally I use my own photos for wallpaper but I appreciate what he’s doing.
I love what he’s doing too. I think it’s a good idea to help artists get a following and earn money.
But for that to happen, the app itself needs to have a good experience and right now that isn’t the case

Well, I wasn't harassing anyone. Just giving feedback on how to make his 2 star app into a 5 star app. Obviously many people aren't happy, except they dont say how to make it better. So I thought I'd make a video with some actual feedback.
