    I have had ferrets for over 20 years, volunteer for a ferret shelter. I am 73 now and have a sweet elderly boy here with me. I have known breeders of ferrets, owned Angora and Hybrids. I love them. Thank you for the refresher course on reproduction. I felt sorry for Muffin, as she was driven by hormones to care for her dead baby.

    Thank you so much for your video! My polecat jill just mated, for her first season. I hope she will be fine later.

    For the final week before she is due - would you leave her alone in her nest?

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  4 місяці тому +1

      In the final week we move her into the dedicated nursery. We don't leave her entirely alone, as its a new place for her to live and it's quite boring.

    Hi my ferret is birth today , he has 5 babies but her belly look like still big , its normal ? Or the babies still there ?

      Same as humans. Takes time for belly to reduce after babies arrive.

    How did you mount the cam inside any specific model?

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  Рік тому

      We use a Foscam R5. It has a simple mount screwed to the wall. Needs micro-USB power supply tho.

    Very informative video thank you
    Can I know from where I can get the small cage for isolation please?
    Thank you very much

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  Рік тому

      The cages are made by Ferplast and are called the Plaza. They come in varying sizes as they are modular so you can add on sections or add on the wooden hut like we did. Can get them on amazon, or Zooplus, or petsathome in UK.

      Hoepfully within a week. I'd have liked to have done it by now, but its quite a lot to mix/cut/produce and takes longer than I'd think!

    How long after there (waters break/mucas) comes out do they start having contractions as it looked pretty light when the mucas was coming out then she didn’t start giving birth till 11pm or is it not the same ferret?

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  Рік тому

      Yes, all the same ferret. We usually see the mucus during the day, and then the contractions late evening followed by the birthing over a few hours over the night. Mucus can sometimes be the day before though.

    Thank you for uploading videos like this, we have a jill that was put with a versectomised hob that was think might be carrying because we have seen movement in her stomach.
    I'm really sorry about the loss of Mushroom's baby, in terms of size did she still get very big even with just the one baby?

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  Рік тому +1

      Yes, up until the last 10 days she was putting on weight in line with perhaps a 7 kit litter. But then it levelled off. She had some uterine complications post birth, and its likely that there were other kits which started to form but then got reabsorbed by the body.
      As for your jill, its not uncommon for vasectomies to fail unfortunately.

      @@kingsdownferrets8485 Thank you for sharing your experience with me, I had my first and only planned litter about 11 years ago now so I'm really out of practice.
      If anything we worked out that she will be due sometime into the next week so things might be getting a bit more chaotic around here

    • @kryten22uk
      @kryten22uk Рік тому +1

      @WhiteRabbitAlice jills mated with a vasectomised hob will got through a phantom pregnancy, which can look very realistic. They put on weight and can produce milk, but ultimately no kits are born. The extent to which jills experience real pregnancy symptoms varies, and some have no noticeable changes. It is possible that this is what is happening for your jill. You will find out soon either way!

    • @PantyQueenie
      @PantyQueenie Рік тому

      @@kryten22uk our other jill and this one have had phantoms before since they've been with fully tested v hobs but I think this one is actually legit, we'll soon find out!
