The issue with chocolate is the iron in it, same reason way I later found out that raisins are not good for both dogs and ferrets, though they were my guys favourite food and showed no ill effects from eating them. I've found in my experience, and in other owners, that all ferts have their own odd favourite food they go nuts for and it's almost never meat, something which mine were actively repulsed by. In my guys case it was raisin, but Joeys was pretty much any and all kinds of fruit and would wander between demanding apple, green grapes or bananas depending on his mood. Heck, even once Joey flung himself out of a grocery bag when food was being brought inside once once he realized it had some deli meat slices in it, then went and played in the one with the bananas. I'm surprised your guy walked that much. My typical routine was walking 10 or so feet until my guys would start to stray into someones yard, then turn around and dig their feet in when I wouldn't let them take us for a peek in their back yard. They'd get scooped up to repeat the process until we got to a park or back home for some digging. For a more serious video if you do it another time, I'd add the issues with North American ferrets, how inbred they are and the problems that produces. I don't know if you know it, but ferrets bred in Europe can live as long as cats. Someone on Facebook, Marie's Ferrets have lived as long as 16 years, which should be as shocking to you being a fert owner living in NA too used to having them around for like 6 years.
One thing with ferrets that's not often talked about, the joys of owning an elderly ferret. As hilarious and silly as they are when they are younger, when they become elderly, they become super chill and just want to hang out with you and become super affectionate.

I've also owned ferrets for over 10 years and have been a moderator on several ferret forums over the years (holistic ferret currently). I have to say that your videos make me laugh and are a better source of ferret care info than most stores that sell the little monsters.

I would argue that no animal needs bathing. You don't bathe cats or dogs regularly, therefore other animals are no exception. They self clean themselves.
The way you hold every part of him except his breathing airways underwater is truly beautiful. That technique was demonstrated in a video for Doula training regarding bathing newborns and it blew my mind.

Thanks for this video. I have lost 3 of my 5 ferrets due to age and illness this year. The remaining are quite old. It's good to see a ferret that's still youthful and energetic. It was also nice to see you use the same ferret cage we do, but we bought the extension to make it a 3 box/6 level mansion. It's looking quite lonely with only the two in there now.

So i got my ferret about 6 months ago. Farrah the ferret & my cat JulioKitty love to play & wrestle, so i ditched the cage & now Farrah has full run of the house along with JulioKitty. I put down a puppy pad next to JulioKitty's litter box & Farrah uses it MOST of the time. Ferrets are definitely awesome lil critters and i know i will get another when the time is right. Thanks for your video's, I have learned a lot. :)
I used to own 5 ferrets and miss having them (of course, I didn't own them, they owned me!). You take excellent care of Wheatly, he is ADORABLE! Keep making making the videos and spreading ferret awareness!
I once made the mistake of bathing them with my shirt off to avoid gettin soaked again... they ended up jumping on me to escape the bath and i had scratches everywhere

Aww! Wheatley is adorable in this! I would love to have a couple of ferrets, but they're not allowed in our township. My sister and I like to call them "weaselkitties" because they seem to be somewhere between the two creatures in temperament and physicality. don’t worry!! just use a puppy pad or a bigger litter box, you have to take a little bit of time to train them to use it but you should still get one!!!

For a second there I thought you had the worlds best ferret that never shits on the cage floor. Then I saw. We have three and I would say they use the litter trays 30% if the time tops. Also we feed ours on raw meat because one of your girls started getting fat and sick on kibbles. You have lithe best behaved ferret in the world. Our three go nuts when we bath them trying to leap out of the bath. We also have to placate ours with some oils on their bellies to get them to chill out so we can cut their nails. Nice video but I think you missed something. Ferrets will make a mess of your floor. Litter everywhere, meat hidden in corners. You will forever be sweeping/hoovering.

When I lived in Japan my friends and I found a baby Itachi (a Japanese Weasel). They hand reared it and it became a pet. I took over looking after him when they left Japan. He was a terrible pet as most wild animals are. Still I loved him. From what I have been able to glean over the years he was pretty much the same as owning a ferret. Mustelids are awesome.
I keeping watching this video because its hilarious. Its actually what got me into your channel. I have four ferrets, Sheriff, Whiskey, Quickdraw, and Deputy Dixie. I have only take Quickdraw for walks, the ferrts have free rein of the house, no cages, and they actually use the puppy training pads while one occasionally uses the cat's litter box. All but one of them hate baths so the only way I found them to be compliant is to let them lose their minds in the living room until they get bored and tired. Any ferret related video makes me happy
I've been with my ferret since I was in the 5th grade (currently in 10th grade). I got him because my parents said no more rodents in the house. he was my little brother at only 3 months old and I've watched him basically learn to walk. keeping George is the most strenuous yet adorable thing I've ever done. Even at 7 years old he still misses the the litter box just to mess with me! 😤

Great vid...I've owned ferrets since 1986. There will be a lot of people who will want ferrets after vids like this...just so long as they know that vet bills are freakishly expensive. Washing their bedding once a week is enough to get rid of most of the smell...and they work best with a buddy...and they bond incredibly strong with you.
Yeah I've unsubscribed because of his oblivious ignorance. If you want to learn about ferret care watch pazuandfriends, Emzotic, ferret-world, etc. They can't handle kibble, they eat only meat and are exclusive to eating only meat. Also bathing them strips them of their natural oils. The only thing he did right was the cage, however the cage still needs to be bigger.

Ferrets are so much damn work omlllll, I’ve had so many and damn do I need a break sometimes- but I adore them. I work in a small pet shop aswell and I always tell people consider getting a ferret more than you would a puppy. They are basically rowdy puppies that never grow up and will steal everything ;))

No, they're not like guinea pigs which need a companion. They're much more like dogs or cats. As long as you let them out and play with them they're perfectly fine.
My first ferret was not okay alone. She would yelp all night in her cage. Did it for weeks. Then we got her a brother and never heard a peep out of her again.
GoreGirl FX My first ever ferret was a nasty little beast until we got her a companion. She was a new girl afterwards. Everything I've read says they do better bonded to another ferret. Some can probably do fine with a human who interacts with them often but I suspect they do better with a friend.

Knowing Better Hmmmm I’ve always read that they can get lonely if they don’t have a companion, which is why we initially got 2. It’s also worth mentioning that having 2 can be less hassle than having one. They can play with each other when they’re out. I can be playing games with the ferrets out and they’ll play with each other.

Love your videos! :D I used to feed my ferrets Wysong Ferret Archetypal-2. So expensive, but they did really well on it. Along with some ground, high quality turkey, beef, and chicken (unseasoned, boiled in fresh water and puréed; think baby food style) every so often to keep their diet balanced. Never fed them any "treats" -- just used their kibble in a shaker to excite their curiosity and reward them. They lived a long time and rarely needed medical intervention. Miss them. Also, I subscribed to your channel and shared your Ferret History video -- so good!

That's true for every furry mammal. Hell, it's true for humans. Bathing every day is actually bad for you.

Yeah I've unsubscribed because of his oblivious ignorance. If you want to learn about ferret care watch pazuandfriends, Emzotic, ferret-world, etc. They can't handle kibble, they eat only meat and are exclusive to eating only meat. Also bathing them strips them of their natural oils. The only thing he did right was the cage, however the cage still needs to be bigger.
I have yo be honest here. I started watching this video and immediately thought oh great another overhyped youtuber trying to be hip... But, I kept watching and i must say i love your humor. The patreon part made me laugh out loud whilst saying aww for the shaking ferret.. Genius. You've got a new fan here. 😉
Ferrets are so much damn work omlllll, I’ve had so many and damn do I need a break sometimes- but I adore them. I work in a small pet shop aswell and I always tell people consider getting a ferret more than you would a puppy. They are basically rowdy puppies that never grow up and will steal everything ;))

Are ferrets lonely without another ferret around? Also it would make my day/life if I came across someone walking their ferret, very cute. A+ content as usual.
No, they're not like guinea pigs which need a companion. They're much more like dogs or cats. As long as you let them out and play with them they're perfectly fine.
My first ferret was not okay alone. She would yelp all night in her cage. Did it for weeks. Then we got her a brother and never heard a peep out of her again.

My first ever ferret was a nasty little beast until we got her a companion. She was a new girl afterwards. Everything I've read says they do better bonded to another ferret. Some can probably do fine with a human who interacts with them often but I suspect they do better with a friend.
Yeah me too. I've heard a lot of people have only one and they do okay, but I've also heard they don't live as long solo. I have three now, bought the first one.. then her brother, then the third one because she was alone in the store.
Knowing Better Hmmmm I’ve always read that they can get lonely if they don’t have a companion, which is why we initially got 2. It’s also worth mentioning that having 2 can be less hassle than having one. They can play with each other when they’re out. I can be playing games with the ferrets out and they’ll play with each other.

I used to feed my ferrets Wysong Ferret Archetypal-2. So expensive, but they did really well on it. Along with some ground, high quality turkey, beef, and chicken (unseasoned, boiled in fresh water and puréed; think baby food style) every so often to keep their diet balanced. Never fed them any "treats" -- just used their kibble in a shaker to excite their curiosity and reward them. They lived a long time and rarely needed medical intervention. Miss them.

Mine was free roaming trained him well and he even slept with me!!! I miss him every day, rip Sammy! I miss you buddy!

I believe that restriction was lifted a year ago and California now allows ferrets... if you want one, double check the CURRENT law.
