    Part 3: Kit Development upto 6 weeks (THIS VIDEO)
    In part 2 we spoke of another jill "Mushroom" who had birth complications and the kits died. For those wondering, she recovered and is now happy and well, and does like to help out with Chilli's kits occasionally!

    Excellent video, thoroughly enjoy all of your vids. Very informative and in some ways more so than some professionals we know. Our Jill, Pixie, is currently pregnant and it has been extremely interesting to follow her through her pregnancy. Wish her luck, and we will do our best to support her throughout ❤

      Is that first 8 kits? Gone in at the deep end if you went from no ferrets to getting 8 at once 😁

      @Happy Ferret Pack ah! I understand. I thought you meant you had just bought 8 kits 😄. Exciting and good luck with your litter. You will find that the mummy will be different during this stage than she normally is, she will likely have a shorter temper. But they go back to normal after the kits have grown.

      @@kingsdownferrets8485 I have 5 adult ferrets, two of them are male polecats and jills are ferret. After the first one delivered, the other two are in process, maybe 20 days and 40 days later. I watched the kits, they looked like ugly baby mice…..ohhhhhh

    so uh I want to ask how do you teach baby ferrets not to bite? because we have baby ferrets for the second time, and the first time they didn't stop biting even when they weren't hungry

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  Місяць тому

      You have to accept that baby ferrets often just nip regardless. Then you train them over time to recognise you as non-edible! We find the more raw meat they are fed the less they bite. This is because it fills them up quicker and makes them more docile. But it varies a lot from litter to litter. This year our kits never bit me at all!

    Sits here in America not knowing what newborn ferrets look like until now. Almost all our ferrets are Marshalls ferrets and they are already spayed/neutered. Is there a secret non Marshalls ferret society in the US or are we just the factory made ferret country?!

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  10 місяців тому

      I'm not aware of a situation in any other country where a factory like marshalls produces all the pets. There are private pet ferret breeders in the US too, although may not be close by.

    Can anyone help? My ferret gave birth around two hours ago and it was quite unexpected. I’m unsure on what to do and what needs to be done. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

      At this stage, you can check that mum is ok, by now she should be over labour, and not struggling or straining. Check that the milk is coming through (ie kits are attached and seem contented). Then make sure your food for mum is top quality, and calcium rich. May need occasional calcium supplement (either powder or liquid).

    If the female get birth, should we separated from the male or they can joined together

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  7 місяців тому

      Its best to keep the male separate from the female. At least 2 weeks before birth, and until kits are older.

      @@kingsdownferrets8485 the male will eat the kits?

    • @kingsdownferrets8485
      @kingsdownferrets8485  7 місяців тому

      In the wild, the male plays no role in the birth or raising the kits. The female wouldn't tolerate his presence. In captivity, males have shown varying responses to kits. Sometimes they are aggressive, sometimes they don't care. It depends on the individual. However whilst the kits are young, they are always struggling to get a place to drink milk. If a large hob was in the nest it would make it difficult for the new kits to feed properly. So even if the male were good with the kits, he could accidentally smother them or cause starvation.
