- Ditsy is 19 years-old and homeless in Salt Lake City, Utah. As you'll quickly see, Ditsy loves kids. He told me that helping and playing with the homeless kids in the park makes him feel better about his younger years. Although this was a fun interview, the fact that every kid in this video is homeless is a serious tragedy.
Ditsy says being a homeless youth is not the hardest thing he has done, but it's also not the easiest. He says he struggles for food, and has to worry about police when sleeping. As hard as homelessness is, Ditsy says if you can stay optimistic, it becomes a little easier. Smart words for such a young man.
When I started to talk to Ditsy about sharing his story the kids were not really around. Before I knew it the kids became part of this story so I just ran with it. While recording, I kept thinking about the challenges of finding all the parents to get their permission. This was a public park at dusk, and who knows where everyone is.
Ditsy took me to the first mother and I handed her a business card. I give everyone a business card with my email and cell number. The mother didn't really say much when another woman, surrounded by a group of people, started to yell at me to come to her. The first mother ran to this woman and handed her my business card. My first thoughts were that I was in trouble. My second thought was that no way was I going to get permission and this whole thing is about to go bad.
To my shock, the woman asked me to take photos of all their kids and family portraits of everyone. There were probably 3 or maybe 4 homeless families hanging out, and they all wanted portraits. I am not a still photographer and my gear is all setup for video. It was dark, I didn't have lights, and I had the wrong lens. I only say that because I wish I could have done better for all of them. I told them I would let me friends at Help Portrait [help-portrait.com] know what shelter they are in so they can get photos done right.
For the next 45 minutes I had so much fun, and so did all of them posing for photos. It was as if the world was alright and none of them were experimenting homelessness. Here is a link to a few of the family portraits I took tonight hardlynormal.tumblr.com/post/5... So obviously, not only did I get every parents permission I made a bunch of new friends in the process. It's a night I'll never forget that's for sure.

pretty fly for a wifi how is that creepy? If this was a 19 yr old woman it'd be fine then? Stfu
@Pretty fly for a WiFi no it doesn't, so do not make it More Than what it is. It's still good people out here. He don't want children to have the childhood he had, because they shouldn't have to worry about anything but being a child. I completely understand, because I'm a neonatal nurse. I do it, because I was born premature. I couldn't talk until I was 3, was in and out the hospital, and went cold blue multiple times. I want to be there for children like me. Parents who went through what my parents went through.
Yes !
@Pretty fly for a WiFi dude he probably didnt get to grow out of his childhood mentality due to not really having one. When you live life as a kid doing everything a kid doesn't do (not playing, not getting to interact with other kids, etc.) I'm not saying this is why, but it's a possibility. He doesn't seem like a pedophile to me, just a kid who didnt get to be one.
That's exactly what happened to me. I was a homeless teenager and, as soon as I was able to leave the streets, I started volunteering to help children, and ended up coordinating 70 volunteers at a pediatric hospital. Nowadays I'm almost getting homeless again, but at least I was able to help thousands of kids and that makes me feel proud of myself and better than all the people who harmed me when I was little. I was unfairly destroyed, yet I refused to become one of them.
I hope you are okay...
hugs on you!
Why are you almost homeless again?😱
Exact! We will never be like them never and that s the best revenge
Yeah, @Mary McNally, I’m wondering the same thing.
@J S Fauno, why are you almost homeless again?
As a primary school teacher who often LOVES being around the kids (way better than being around the adults!) I can tell this youngster has a superpower already -- to lead children, inspire them, show by actions what is right and wrong, teach by example and love them unconditionally. I guarantee he is a hero in every one of those children's eyes and is shaping their future actions and thoughts in ways that he probably cannot even know now.
Just got recommended this.
I'm 19 too and I can tell you you're NOT that mature when you're 19. You still need guidance. You still have a teenage mindset. You still are very easy to hurt. So I'm just here thinking to myself.. this guy deals with all the homeless children, trying to make them feel the best way they could... being a homeless teen himself? That deserves mad respect wtf. Like I cant imagine to be in that situation myself. He is most definitely hurting inside but respect on keeping a cool head around everyone. What a great guy. I wonder where they are and what they are doing now..
Jimi I’m wondering the same. We need updates on them!
Jimi the kids are probably in a foster family and the dude is probably in prison
Tf prison? why prison? this dude had goals and ambitions.
Frr like how can I help /donate ??
He's 25 now tho
You can tell through his eyes he's a good person, with a sincere heart. He doesn't deserve the life he got.
You just assume he's a good person because of a 4 minute interview?
Mr. White So your suppose to assume everyones a bad person before you even meet them. What a pessimistic way of living
@@MrWhite-pn7ui you can tell a lot by jusr 4 minutes. His maturity, the way he handles his life right now, his love for equality and kids. He has such a polite and gentle manner of speaking, his patience with these kids and the fact that he admits to his faults and is trying to change as well as give back. Try to look at the positives and you will see many, the negatives and only a few you can view.
Yeah, sometimes life is not fair!!
Probably that kids and people around him deserve him and thats why hes there

Privilege? Wtf? Circumstances can lead you to homelessness, but staying is a choice unless you’re a child or special needs. There’s to many ways to pick yourself up in this country.
Raven Tzu if you dont shut your all lives matter ass up and gtfo
I was homeless when I was 19, I ran away from home out of irritation with family. I had a rough childhood being abused verbally, physically, emotionally, and mentally it really gives a big impact on our lives. I have friends that are homeless youth and they definitely taught me being homeless means fighting for what you believe in.
How did you get out of your situation? Or are you still homeless? Sorry, I hope you don't mind me asking.
He is so polite. He deserves some help!
I can’t believe how genuinely happy this dude looks. He’s got “nothing” but he has it ALL
My mom always taught me that the richest person is the one who doesn't have anything. Meaning that those people usually are the most giving. Whatever little they get, they share it with others. This guy has a heart of gold and he wants to share it with these kids, so they would feel less lonely and more wanted. You can't buy that with money.
Moose so true!! A life lesson right there
Your mom was right and always right
@@Moosemonni bad quote cuz you are throwing all rich people in the same boat, it depends on the person
@@Ajesen I am not. There would be no quotes if everyone would read them all from word to word and wouldn't accept any other way of doing things than what the quote says. My quote didn't say all poor people give back. It didn't say no one else gives back. It says that usually someone who has experienced the worst, wants to make others feel less of what they are/have been experiencing and therefore they do these things. They don't do it for money or fame, they do it because they feel so strongly about their past. So from now on when you read a quote, try to see the whole picture, see and think what's behind all that.
No child should be homeless. This is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen. They all deserve so much better!
A better thing to say is: No one should ever be homeless.
Safi Hameed true, but children have absolutely no control over their situation, at least adults can try to get out of it but children born into it are kinda stuck
How many kids do you take in off the street?
You say that and yet you still being you and not giving anything girl shut up 😂🤷♂️

Not a waste, education or not the amount of work you can see he's put into those kids, he has and will continue to be changing loves first hand and through those little guys. But yeah I agree with you
I don’t think it’s a waste, he’s using his talent for working with children on these homeless children. I think they will grow up feeling loved
Maybe he feels good by helping and making an impact, but that doesn’t change the fact he’s homeless so it really is a waste cause in the end how is he being helped? Sometimes people that give so much to others need to have someone to lean on too.

It's not legal to just be on the streets. As fucked up as that is.
Cops.. looking out for people? lmao
That's not how it works. Especially because they're kids. They would get collected and put into fostercare. In my country they passed laws that it's not legal to sleep infront of buildings and in gateways. A lot of people don'tgo to shelfers cause the others will take everything they have left. So now that they can't be in the city they have to find places in green areas or somewhere further from the city. Or unnoticable places. It's really heartbreaking. To see. I haven't seen one of our lical guys in a few months. I hope him amd the girl he travels with are okay. He can't talk right so most of the time i only hear "god bless you" befire i get on my bus. Exactly.. My heart is heavy after watching this.
Their families are homeless, the kids aren't on their own. I've heard of lots of families that live out of their cars for a while before they can find a new job or a place. In some economically shabby areas, the majority of kids are homeless at least once during their childhood. Many kids become accustomed to poverty and never believe they can grow up to lift themselves out of it, and as a result, miss the narrow window between graduating high school and becoming a parent which is the ideal time to make a change.

Add to that the fact that women still can not vote or drive vehicles in your nation in the year 2018 A.D. But hey! You're the guy wearing a picnic blanket on his head so I guess you know what you're talking about. But most importantly of all, One is glad that you recognize the godly values in the young homeless man's heart.
Unapproved Truth you seem kinda dumb dude learn about Saudi or anymore before you talk
Mohammed Ayyad yeah it’s not like Saudi Arabia is bombing the fuck out of Yemen or anything
@Mohammed Ayyad and loads of Saudi's have the name of Mohammed.
Unapproved Truth honestly. You must have gotten triggered by this comment because you know damn well the US is fucked up right now. Lmao I don't understand why you chose to add that comment. You must have felt offended or attacked. And then you even went as far as to attack his religion when he said nothing about one. Whatever you're dealing with in life that makes you so uptight, I hope it was better 😊💜
Why i am just crying when i listen how he said just be optimistic because it's hard life
his spirit pure, it cleanses soul, mby that's why years came through, world is full such sht, sad

Prestonesfpv me too
The fact that he takes care of them is so touching, no child deserves to be homeless
what a lovely kind person. I pray his dreams come true. He has some great values
Hes such a sweet guy. Hope him and kids are safe
"Forever alone but forever available"
-Ditsy
He said 1. Make everyone equal 🙌🥺❤️ 2. Find that special someone and start own family 3. Superpowers, cause I'm still a kid at heart 🥺
Absolutely heartbreaking and inspiring at the same time!!
this broke my heart and i teared up. these little angels ...
He’s adorable I can’t believe these little kids are homeless so sad we can’t have affordable housing
What a wonderful guy. God bless him
Amazing guy!!!If you read this,CanbYou right me on my emai?I am so far than you but i thing we are so same people and i want try help you .You are amazing!!!
I've been working my way through watching this channel's vids from my comfy seat here in Scotland and it absolutely breaks my heart to see the harsh reality of life for some in the US. Between gun crime and law enforcement, systemic racism, lack of affordable health care and a social net to prevent people ending up on the street I don't know how any of you can be optimistic about the future of your people. Least of all Ditsy. You all deserve so much better. Truly, it breaks my heart .
I hope Ditsy, and everyone whose life we get a short glimpse of here, have all the happiness they ever hoped for. I want to believe you are all ok. That you all are just fine. I don't think I could deal with the sorrow of believing otherwise x
Thank you.
You are a special, kind individual - Social Work should be your life work - God Bless
They are nicer and sweeter than some of the ones with homes.... breaks my heart to see kids with such rough lives.......
he was so patient with the kids 😩
Bless this kind soul and all of the little ones he looks after.
What a great person this is. I'm sure he will help a lot more people throughout his lifetime.
Opinion: When u guys and others like u all over UA-cam, post such videos of people in different hardships and struggles, please include their social media names, or phone numbers or open a Go fund me for them, so when people want to help or make a follow up, they can do so. Otherwise i think its no much use to see their stories and leaving their lives the same.. Imagine if they get 1$ from everyone watching them and willing to contribute.. it could be life changing
This should me top comment
Nina Rhodes what makes you think a homeless kid has social media? Or a phone?
James Bentley because otherwise he would be called phoneless
James Bentley how about literally any form of information to help these poor fucking kids
James Bentley she means everyone else on this fucken channel ignorant moron
Damn, he said he’s had it harder than being homeless. That’s wild.
Kevin Thomas rape. Drugs. One word: Abuse
Autumn Berlin I’m just saying it’s wild in the sense that he’s had a harder life than most people. I’m not trying to take away from his experience or anything like that. It’s insane what he’s had to go through for someone who’s only 19. I know that there are things worse than homelessness but I was emphasizing that a 19 year old kid shouldn’t have to go through any of that in the first place.
“We need more people to help the homeless”
And YOU, yes: YOU, can be one of those people that helps fulfill this need
Oh my God, I m 19 and right now i m waiting for breakfast which is going to be served by my Mom, Man i m very lucky. Be grateful with what you have, there are millions who dream just to have that.
How thats possible children are homless in such a rich country???this is such a shame!!!!!!!!
myworldlovesme not really a rich country everyone can’t afford everything even if it isn’t that much
@@Ourfriendvirchor really?great america not that rich? children should not be homeless!!!
myworldlovesme welcome to my country 😐
People are homeless everywhere. A country may be rich, but that does not mean everyone in it is - it just means the government have lots of income into their system, and some rich people live there. Often there's a massive divide where lots of poor people also love in the country but it doesn't get talked about
Which rich country ?
USA is completly is third world place
Like whole america
