- This foam archer tower for Dungeons and Dragons was inspired by The Witcher. I make use of the new brick jig from ShiftingLands so you never have to make individual bricks ever again! The brick placement for this entire craft took me about 2 1/2 hours start to finish!

Having read all the Witcher books I don't remember a specific name of the ocean or sea that Cintra was on. It was bordered by the river Yaruga, and as another commenter listed it could be the great sea, but it was definitely not a major landmark. Cintra was mostly referenced to its physical location by the Skellige islands. Great books by the way absolutely worth the read! Great work as usual! Keep the videos coming!

You have just created probably the most sort after template that has even been wanted by a crafter making bricks! This is a game changer! You and Shifting Lands are legends! I came out super amazing, the painting really brought this to life and the flags finish it beautifully! Imagine what you and Shifting Lands could do with a building, say….the Outhouse of Doom! 😉

I want to share my way of doing magnets. I glue the first set in and then put magnets that will be on the neighboring piece on the glued down magnets. Then I take the other piece and press that down on the magnets and they indent circles where they need to go on the new piece. Takes the whole paint thing out of the equation and works perfect every time.

I just got my brick and shingle jig in the mail. Gonna use the boxes they were delivered in to build some structures and give this a go.

I've been wondering how on earth to line the magnets up on each piece so they are in the right spot and you're the first person I've found all week that says it. It just goes to show even some of the most basic stuff is worth saying sometimes for people like me who seem to lack natural ability to work these things out alone! Thanks

Great looking build fella, for flags etc I’ve seen aluminium cans used. It should be flexible/bendable enough to get some great ripple effects on the material. 👍🏼
Cool idea for sure, thank you.... I would assume you would sand down those edges quite a bit... those can be pretty sharp.
@@TabletopWitchCRAFT a little tickle over with some 240 or 400 grit should be enough to stop them being too sharp. 👍🏼

I bought the plans from your website but I noticed, in the video, you're not using the plans I downloaded, you've got another version of those you use in the video. I can figure it out , I think, in the 8x11 plans sometimes you've combined 2 figures into 1 and in the video your printout has those figures separated. Anyway, I have a suggestion for your next video: make sure the plans you use in the video match the plans you're selling exactly, it'll be much less stress for your followers! So far, so good, by the way in my build - I'll update this with my final triumph when I get it done! Nice model !!
Hi Mike, thank you so much for your support. The reason the plans are slightly different is because I make the plans then start my build. At times I'll make modifications to the build along the way and the plans you buy depict the exact changes I made to make the exact build you see on the channel. The only way to show the exact plans in each video would be to preproduce each craft twice...

The brick jig is awesome. I think I might have to pause 3D printing terrain and pick one up. The paint job that you did on the stone was sweet too. Could you do a video on how you did it? I got the basic idea but it would great to see it with a little more detail. Thanks for the great videos.
Time to pick up some foam haha. I'll be using this jig quite a bit coming up. I'll try and show off the painting a bit more. Basically for this one its a lot of layers, dry brushing, and thin coats followed by a well placed wash over the stone to make sure you don't coat the entire craft and lose your grout lines.

Gotta say, I don't work much in foam myself but this actually has me thinking 'hmm, might be worth a go'. Certainly a gear shift in the hobby, well done :)

If you had come out with that jig a few months ago, you might have saved Martina's sanity. She made an entire castle over at Nerdforge with over 35,000 individual bricks!

That jig is pretty cool! I think this could be modified into a dice tower even... my son wants to build one so now I guess I have to get that jig! I wanted to order the Guider Pro from there too anyway!
The guider pro is a must IMO. Double up and grab the brick jigs too :) Dice towers are always fun to make. I'd like to make one on the channel.
If you want a far easier way to do flags or banners, there's an old tutorial on the Wagames Soldiers &Strategy youtube channel (Really wish she'd come back, miss those tutorials), one of her earlier videos, that has a few things that are really easy to do and look great. It's a specific type of paper used which works wonderfully.
But one other way to do easier brick patterns, though one that leaves more dry time, is to look at some of the piecrust/pastry dies, and even some cookie cutters. There are some with notches in them for specific designs and if you have the sharper metal ones, it cuts through the dollar tree foam core extremely easily and you can just stack it up while gluing it together. And some of the stranger designed cutters can also be useful for embelishments and other terrain pieces. I've got a few pieces that are basically a bit of foam cut with one that I textured with a rock and made some cracks in them for things.
I've made them out of fabric, paper etc... just showing off some other options... thanks for the ideas :)

There´s so much you can do with this build if you just download the plans and follow the steps! I added another floor and made it look a little bit more like a mage tower, just adding some details. The brick gig was really amazing too, worth waiting for before beginning to craft.

It looks really good, but I'm curious how it would look on a strait surface, where you don't curve the piece and create extra space between every brick.

I'm working on a video now to show it off, and some even better examples coming out in the near future. To obtain the desired grout line thickness, just turn up the heat on the Proxxon! Oh, and if you see Gerard, tell him I said Hi!

If you wanted to make smaller bricks, would it be possible to make one pass thru the foam as you showed, and then shift the foam in the jig a half a brick and make another pass? I can't tell if your bricks would pass for OO scale. That's some impressive tower you made there!

Thank you :) So I'm really just layering a bunch of different colors here. It's a lot of fun. The colors are: Warm White, Light Grey, Orange, Dark Brown, Dark Grey, Territorial Beige, Linen, then wash the bricks with a black wash, then a final dry brush of Linen.

Right on Rick, thank you! I'm actually working on a video now show it off on a flat surface. To exaggerate the grout lines on a flat surface you just turn up the heat on the Proxxon and you're good to go!

How do you keep your foam parts in place on the Shifting Lands jigs? Is there a pin that stabs into the foam or something? Heh, then saw it 15 seconds later at 4:53. Nice.
Yep the pins, but to be honest if you cut the foam so it lightly snug you don’t need pins at all.
Castles are actually built with blocks, not bricks. That said, your method is amazing.

Thank you :) I really thought long and hard about what I wanted to do here. I originally even added color to the grout, but then opted out of that because I knew I wanted to base coat the entire thing an off white. There would be enough layers of paint and wash to dirty up the grout. I used a handful of colors, brown, tan, yellow ocher too I believe. Painted sporadically over the tower. Then the heavy drybrush of grey started to bring it together. The thing is to have it thinned down enough that your other colors still show though. Then the "drybrush" of the black wash over the entire tower made it all cohesive. Don't just slap a black wash over the entire thing. It'll really take away from the grout lines and the definition of each brick. Finally a drybrush of a white or off white and you're good to go :)

Omg, thank you for the scale comment! I feel the same way with steps - people tend to build them far bigger than the scale should have them. And they never seem to take race into consideration. Stairs for a hobbit are going to be a smaller scale than stairs for a human.

cool jig! great looking tower. You probably know this but there is a bit of fuzz on/in your lens. I've seen it in a bunch of your videos, but it was very noticeable in this one.

How thick do you cut the foam before putting it in the jig? And what temperature setting do you use?
Great questions. The foam thickness is just to the height of each vertical cut in the jig.. its approximately a quarter of an inch. I have the heat around 2 to 2 1/2 for round structures. To get more defined grout lines on flat walls I turn the heat up to 3 to 3 1/2.
At 7:00, what is the tool that you are using for creating texture on the foam? I would love to have one of those.

Did you use anything to seal this and protect the foam? Hodge Podge, medium, glue, etc?

It's a snug fit... a bit of tacky glue does the trick.
