    Your youtube channel is one of my favorites! I am a 22 year old college student at FSU, but I have been sailing since I was 0. My family is from Little Deer Isle, ME, and we have been there since 1897. I hope you can continue to make these videos as they are a beautifully calm representation of what sailing is and how it makes you feel. This is a long shot but, you should consider doing the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta in Maine, it is every summer on August 3rd. I know you would love it! You are very welcome to sail with us in the race and stay at my house right on the water.

    Thanks for another fantastic video. I work on a 360 foot tanker on the river rhine, delivering fuel from the North Sea ports to Switzerland and i dream of sailing the oceans. In the spring i will start taking sailing lessons. As a citizen of a landlocked country rivers, canals and lakes are my first love, especially the rhine, but still there is always this longing for the open sea. Your films capture perfectly what i`m longing for. Thank you very much and greetings from snowy Switzerland.

    I'm nearing the end of your audiobook...We've just left Kauai and finally turning east to Marina Del Rey. I want to tell you how much I've enjoyed the trip. You've taught me a lot. Just bought a day sailer and you've inspired me to move up into a larger boat. Thanks for over explaining things like a father would...capturing each simple moment in just the right sentimental way. All the best to you!

    It's ginger snaps and hot tea with honey the first couple days off shore for me. Then I can open a can of soup. Webb Chiles swears by freeze dried meals in a packet. I subscribe to the keep it simple stupid diet. Love the droll narration.

    • @ChristianWilliamsYachting
      @ChristianWilliamsYachting  8 років тому

      +David Owens Ginger snaps+. But I'm not much for freeze-dried stuff, which are one step behind an MRE under a Humvee in a sandstorm. On a 32-footer there is plenty of room for cans and pouches, which even without refrigeration gives a pretty good selection and your own supermarket aisle every dinner time.

    Another great video. I realise that this is 3 years old but have you heard of the "Cape Horn' windvane? Full ss, no brackets to attach to the transom, can be used to provide strength to the tiniest autopilot. They are custom design for different type os boats. I find them to 'la crème de la crème' of wind vane.

    How do you like sailing by yourself? I'm repairing a 1979 Northwest 38 and hope to be sailing next year. I'll be sailing alone and I don't mind, I enjoy my own company. Do you have internet or television on board? How do you entertain yourself? What is the largest sailboat you would suggest for single person sailing? My sailboat is 39 feet. Your videos are very enjoyable, educational and thought provoking. I have many more questions, but they can wait.

    • @ChristianWilliamsYachting
      @ChristianWilliamsYachting  8 років тому +8

      +Scotto Wd There will never be a television on board longer than it takes to throw overboard. For weather updates I use a satellite phone, but surfing the Net is impractical. Passagemaking itself pretty much keeps the attention tuned in, and then there is reading and cooking if it's not too rough. I like 30-40 feet for singlehanding, but what you can handle really depends on sails set. A spinnaker on a Merit 24 is work when solo; a reefed 39-footer can put you to sleep.

    I’m not sure how I feel about my giggles as I watch. I don’t have the family history you have, though I’ve sailed with families that do... when I was the pimpley add-on the father had suffered.
    You call the sail a Gènoa as my Finish sailing instructor did as opposed to the young UA-camrs who prefer Genóa. You like your Dinty Moore as my father still camps with cans of Vienna sausages. Sorry. All horrible.
    I guess, if I’m relating to your nostalgia with my own version, I can exclude processed foods as a fond inner joy.
    All the best to you, your family, and your vessel Ericsson.

    p.s. Do you still sail as much?

    • @ChristianWilliamsYachting
      @ChristianWilliamsYachting  8 років тому

      Sure. Still much to learn. But I don't call it "going sailing," which seems kinda tame and optional, but rather "gear testing and crew proficiency enhancement." Mechanical and human systems need use. I personally rust fast.

    • @Brgnalf81
      @Brgnalf81 8 років тому

      Haha, I do the same with my bike. We call it "slushing the oil around", you know... oil can't stay in the bottom of the engine for too long. It's bad for the _____ *insert a mechanical word*.

I worked at Ericson for quite a few years and would like to get confirmed as a member of the site. I signed on under the name wayned. Thanks for any help you can give, if possible.
