Mr. Williams . .. If you are still reading these comments . . .This short video was a hoot. Thanks for a thoughtful and funny bibliography.

Your videos are a joy to watch, gems in a sea of annoying nonsense.
And you were 71! I am 70 and just got my first boat (since a teenager's Blue Jay)... Probably won't get across the Pacific but I've got my eyes on the Caribbean...

I never get tired of watching your videos. They're all fantastic! Yeah , I meant what I said. You have a gift of delving deep into the realm of detailed explanation, which makes understanding you very easy and enjoyable. Sail on and teach us more.

Sir, I found your channel two days ago and it has been like finding a long lost friend. I love your videographic style and your humor. I can't wait to catch up with your latest videos, but I'm starting with the oldest ones so it will take some time. I compare finding your channel with diving in murky, silty water and actually finding treasure.

For me, your series of videos are excellent. The boat looked good, the dance made me smile, the engine room put me to shame and the home movies of that time are such a treasure to have. My father said that Chichester always grumbled, that in his opinion, Camper Nic had made Gypsy Moth too long and blamed many a mishap on those extra feet but I agree with you, in that our boats will take us anywhere and in some cases drag us there.

The Lindsay Lohan comment was the best...made my day. That's some pretty heavy reading there that you're taking along. I'll be a singlehander soon, looking forward to the long journeys.

Sartre, Camus, Russell, Heidegger... Nice collection! I think Camus would be very comforting to me if I was alone at sea.

A couple I liked a long time ago - - Farley Mowat's Farfarers and The boat who wouldn't float. Finally made my way through The riddle of the sands, plodding and a disappointment, but not useless.

Thanks for these videos, they remind me of my transatlantic trip in 2007. Time for a new boat and a voyage to celebrate my thirtieth year I think. I am the same with old sailing books, they were all given to me by my grandfather. I think my favourite is ' lively lady' by Alec rose, I must have read it five times. My copy of Chichester is of the same vintage !

If you haven't read it, Livy's account of the Second Punic War is absolutely amazing (up until WW1 it was the biggest war in history - apparently).
Really enjoy your videos, and your review of wind vane steering has added something to my shopping list (grrrrr). :-)

Christian: I really enjoyed the video of your trip and as a classical scholar I appreciate your choice in books. I'm a Marina Del Rey sailor too. I'll look out for Thelonious in the hope of meeting you in person...

I honestly don't know how could possibly find the time to read. I would think that every waking moment I'm not shitting my pants trying not to be scared, I'd be fixing something that has not yet actually broke. Then I would only be reading the instruction manual after I broke it. I'm a sailor over 45 years. Yet, I hang on your every word.

I'd like to suggest Sterling Hayden's autobiography "Wanderer". It is worth the read and will always have space on my bookshelf. I second the recommendation of 'The Long Way", as well.

I wish you had more books to review. Can I recommend The Reluctant Warriors, by Donald Armstrong. It is about the fall of Carthage and its wars with Rome. Also Voyage by Sterling Hayden.

Is it an adverse eclecticism that we gravitate to books that we either compair ourselves to the authors achievements. Or to gain a sense freedom from comparing or own misadventures to their successes and saying to ourselves, Well im not as experienced as he is, so im doing pretty well. We may never fully understand what the meaning is in each book but it does help us to understand ourselves a little better. Being alone in the confines of your vessel, you have no place to your own reality. And thus learn who you really are. The beauty of our species. Is we have the ability to change. What do in actuality, well i could write a book about it.

Uh...please for give me for being slow but is that you on IMDB? It would certainly make sense if it were. On my comment revision now..No need to reply. I'm convinced I know the answer at this point.
