    Man you have to be proud. I know how to sail but I watched it anyway and was just giddy and proud for you. I know my daughter's don't have a clew how happy it makes me when they toss a dock line at just the right moment or do the many other things they do or better yet say yes when I say do you want to go sailing or say when you die I want the boat and your album collection.

    Great video , Mr Williams. A moment like this is where another man looks at you and says to himself '' That guy's got it figured out. '' Knowing, like anyone else, your life isn't perfect but having the knowledge and means to create a day like this for yourself is truly a beautiful thing to have in life. Thx for sharing it and satisfying one of the few qualities I actually like about myself... the ability to be genuinely happy for someone else. I hope your daughter invites you out soon. Don't be a back salon driver either haha

    Hoover up as much of your Dad's sailing knowledge and skill as you can as one day he won't be around to help or guide you. Savour these times. It is what I remember most of the good times I spent with my Dad, him teaching me to sail and teaching me old school navigation.

    My daughter is 10 years old - will be 11 in June as we head into our second season of sailing together on our Mirage 27. I love seeing this dad/daughter dynamic. I'm pretty sure in a few years she'll be teaching me some lessons. I love sharing this experience with my little girl, and love seeing how you've shared it with your little girl too.

    Mr. William's, thank you so very much for today's lesson. I had given up hope that I would ever learn the correct way to string the clews on my first and second reef lines (I was just attaching to the sail and not terminating the two lines on the boom). I also gained knowledge relating to where to set the car on the head sail sheet travelers which I had been experimenting with for some time. Being a novice in his sixties going into my second season of sailing, I very much appreciate the tip filled videos you and a limited number of other publishers release. Prosperity, health, and happiness to you and your daughter. Dan S/V Drifter a 1989 IP 35

    Great footage! My husband taught me how to sail when we were barely 16 years old. We got engaged when we were 18 while visiting his older brother in costa rica on their boat SV Prism, and then when we turned 20 we got married and moved onto our boat, Avocet, preparing to sail the world! its been a wild 2 years. Can't wait to explore the world.

    I think you've convinced me to explore bringing my reefing lines back into the cockpit. Currently I have to go to the mast to reef which is not something I enjoy when things get rough. As a result I either reef at the dock or not reef at all and occasionally deal with being overpowered. Your procedure for reefing is sooo much simpler (and safer).

    I learned to sail with my dad in Marina Del Rey when I was 9. He later bought a larger boat and moved it down to Coronado where I was a junior member of CYC. There I had the opportunity to crew on a Newport 41 named Lola which belonged to Whit Davis, father of Rod Davis - they took their sailing rather seriously - to say the least.
    Many years later after my dad had sold his boat I wanted to get back to sailing and introduce my wife to the experience. I found Set Sail Yacht Charters in San Diego. The owner turned out to be Jeff Davis - Rods younger brother. I have been chartering boats for years including two trips up from Cabo. I've never had any formal instruction and have no certificate.
    I love your videos (I taught my daughter to sail as well)

    I wish my grandfather was still alive and I could sail with him. He passed before I was born. He was an avid sailor, my mom sailed with her parents in their yawl to the US from Argentina when she was a young girl. My grandfather dreamed of sailing across the Atlantic. I hope one day to achieve that dream as I have it too⭐️😊

    I came across your channel just now after watching some videos of a young sailor - Sam Holmes. I'm heading into retirement in a couple of years and have a crazy idea about learning to sail, maybe even live aboard for a time. I'll be around 63 years old. Your videos are inspiring as well as informative. But I wonder what advice you would have for a guy thinking about learning this art and craft in his 60s. Clearly it's doable, but what's a person getting into? Seems like it takes a lot of physical strength and endurance. I see you've written a couple of books; i'll have a look at those. If you have any other suggested readings that might help a person my age to decide whether to give this a try, they'd be much appreciated.

    • @ChristianWilliamsYachting
      @ChristianWilliamsYachting  3 роки тому +9

      There's no reason not to start sailing at age 63, it's not mixed martial arts or the Battle of Britain. We can sail standing up or sitting down, or around the world in our heads. It rewards thinking things through, not instant reflexes. The great benefit to the ancient mariner? He or she has time now, time we never had at the height of ambition and career. Time to learn, especially. (Oh--and note that Sam Holmes has "Moved up to a Larger Boat.")

    You have taught your daughter well and she certainly seems capable of helming the boat, if she’s sailed a Laser I would let her trim the sails herself so she can gain some independence and take the boat out with her friends, she’ll certainly learn more when she’s making decisions.
    Also, I didn’t get your jibe, the boom certainly slammed rather than come around smoothly.
