Pretty much. Haki in my eyes is a pretty essential part that ensures that Devil Fruits don't become so ridiculously broken that it makes you question how a man made out of rubber is able to fight smoke and win. There are only so many "throw water at your sand opponent to punch him" moments you can draw from before it starts to become ridiculous. Haki also allows non-Devil Fruit users to actually have an impact on the story with them being able to measure up with the strongest Devil Fruits.
Without Haki, you would just get the opposite problem where the strongest Devil Fruits determine strength since they are literally invincible from any normal attacks. That would honestly be far worse than having Haki as a part of the power system.

Well the Advanced Armament was THE first application of Armament we have ever seen tbh.
Sentoumaru used it directly after he was introduced, on Luffy. 3 Admirals blocking Whitebeard's shockwave. Rayleigh's first demonstration of Armament Haki is literally the Advanced version directly (on the cuffs of Camie) and later on when he showcased it to Luffy he used Advanced as well.
We all thought Busoshoku Haki was the invisible armor that extends beyond the Body *all throughout pretimeskip* .
It's *after* the timeskip when Oda decided to make it an advanced version, and then he introduced the basic one and made it visible (black hardening) and yes it IS visible, anyone can see limbs and swords turn jet black even those who don't use Haki (like nami, ussop and chopper first time seeing Elephant Gun).

@MD 25 He said Sanji can use Armament Haki, just not strong enough to be visibly seen like what Luffy and Zoro's Armament Haki. As much as I want to defend my beloved Sanji, he lacks scenes where he showcase his Armament Haki.
Have a look at Sanji vs Vergo, Sanji almost broke his leg from simply attacking Vergo, meanwhile Vergo is just defending with his own haki.
But! I would argue that Sanji has a better Observation Haki than both Luffy and Zoro. Biggest evidence of this is in the arc WCI, the part where Sanji was about to be assasinated by Katakuri, but was able to dodge it. Even Katakuri was surprised that Sanji was able to dodge it.

Why does no one every bring up how Armament has enabled certain Devil fruit powers to work? I've never considered Haki to be the main power system, Devil fruits are. Devil Fruits create the unique and exciting powers that make combat in One Piece so distinct. Cracker's biscuits only work because of Haki, biscuits aren't actually that strong, but coating them with armament is what makes them so difficult to break. Likewise with Katakuri, getting hit by I giant mochi fist wouldn't be as destructive if it weren't as hard as steel, which armament enables. It also makes Gear Third make more sense, as filling up your fist with air would be like getting punched by a balloon. But now that it's coated in haki, it's far harder which makes more sense. Plus it's also like Luffy and Katakuri have canon ball fists which is a cool aesthetic for me and very fitting in a world of superhuman pirates.
I love the video by the way and agree with all your points, I just wish you had mentioned these are more things Haki adds to the combat. I don't like it when people speak of Haki however as if it's the main thing now and has replaced devil fruits, when in reality it's added to them.

if one infuses conquerors into an attack, it shouldnt make the attack stronger, but shatter the opponents will, or something.
Like in one punch man, when saitama and genos fought each other, and saitamas final punch made genos experience a vision of DEATH, even though the attack didnt actually connect, it just made him not want to fight anymore, even though he was the one that demanded to fight him moments earlier.

Luffy may not have known about haki or how to utilize it that well at the time but it's possible that it still augmented him. Much like how he subconsciously used Conquerers Haki here and there or Observation while fighting Mihawk, he also could have utilized Armanent loosely to overcome some foes who had a tough guard like Lucci, the pacifista and Marigold. Craftsdwarf had a cool video about this topic (but is no longer available)
He highlighted that haki is a more organic counter to devilfruits than sea stone, because you don't need to explain it trough exposition
He also pointed out that haki can open the gates for different combat styles that wouldn't be able to compete at this stage of the story, like vergo using a bamboo blow gun
Some things I like about haki are how it separates the top tiers without them being invulnerable at all times, gold roger got pierced by two randos for example, which makes him feel human. And I love how it mixes with devilfruits to create situations that wouldn't work otherwise, like g4 or katakuri's sticky mace
I also disagree in some of your points about the katakuri fight, because I don't think is as simple as saying they both saw the future so the ability cancels out. When Luffy started seeing a bit into the future he got close to hitting katakuri, but he still wasn't able to do it without snakeman, an ability that capitalizes in the crucial flaw of future sight. Future sight shows the defacto future that will happen, as long as the user of future sight does not intervine. If the future sight user acts the future is changed, an he has to use future sight again and process that new information, so there is a brief moment where anyone can change the future, observation haki or not. And thus luffy developed snake man to close the gap between his future sight and katakuri's.

This art of manipulating water isn't exclusive to fishmen (e.g koala), suggesting its easier for them to master given their connection to water. Just as various understandings of haki developed in different locations, I think its the same for the special martial arts in OP. Each one allows the user to execute haki applications only by following the correct forms. E.g the water shot (Arlong used on Sanji & zoro) acts the same as the kuja haki imbued arrows.
The process of mastering these martial arts is the same as learning haki. Rigorously training provides the physical foundation and helps in visualising how to execute the correct form. As shown by luffy learning FS, without the visualisation one can't use a technique, e.g CP9 members always focus before using any technique, Nero mastered all the leg related techniques but not the iron body or finger pistol, and luffy replicated the shave footwork in G2 after understanding it (note: he encounter it before in captain kuro's creeping cat).
There are even examples of practitioners 'blooming' in the mist of battle e.g Sai mastering drill dragon form to break Chinjao's head, Sanji running for days until he learned moon walk, zoro learning flying slashes (tempest kicks) during the skypeia battles (note: chessmarimo used significant flying slashes vs chopper), luffy using paper art (gum gum space out) against eneru.
Similarly, all these techniques can be overcome as with dfs & haki e.g the heat of Sanji's Diable jambe allowed them to break through jabras iron body. The combination of sea prism stone with a reject dial used by Wyper on eneru. Luffy using the faster attacks of snakeman to counter katakuri's mastery of FS.
The effect/application of any "properly" executed technique can be explained in terms of observation/armament haki, is it really just coincidence? Like how inflicting internal damage with ryou is replicated via the secret 7th move of the 6 powers, the dragon claw, the shockwave kenpo & fishman karate. So has haki made the fights more basic or is it that we now have a basic understanding of the various applications of haki in one piece fights?

Since it now appears that armament Haki is standard for even the lowest-ranking marines and goons in the New World, it makes it seem like all the earlier instances of supposed Haki usage merely happen to fit how Oda would come to define Haki in the later sections of the story. 24:10 I don't think the idea that Rokougan is a form of advanced Armament Haki is controversial at all. Haki is a manifestation of one's spirit, and a big part of martial arts training is also training your spirit, so it totally makes sense that some martial arts techniques can allow you to subconsciously tap into Haki.
In Zoro's flashback in the Mr. 1 fight, Koshirou explained to him how the most skilled swordsmen can choose to cut nothing or cut anything. It was the exact same explanation that Hyogoro gave to Luffy about Ryuo (advanced Armament Haki) more than 700 chapters later, but without using the word "Haki" to define his explanation. It's not controversial at all that martial arts practitioners like Koshirou, Zoro, and Rob Lucci have been teaching / manifesting forms of Haki early on in the series without even knowing that it's Haki (or at least not acknowledging it as such), especially since, as Morj said, being a Haki user doesn't automatically make you stronger than a non-Haki user.

But what happens if you present a gimmick who can do the exact same? If a nobody like Luci could use it unconsciously... or Luffy learning it in a week... It just breaks the power system because it exposes how haki can "copy" the uniqueness of devil fruits. Shanks nullifying Akainu's fist just like the darkness fruit, Big Mom and Kaido having impenetrable skins just like the diamond fruit, etc.. Haki seems like a multifaceted gimmick who kinda denies the devil fruits (in a literal way). The whole point of one piece are the devil fruit uniqueness and crazy traits, a direct reflect of the author's creativity. But that is not the case anymore.

I've gotta disagree with your analysis of the Snakeman vs Katakuri fight, and with the fandom's general whining about future sight that came up in respect to the Ulti and Apoo (not that you've been part of that). We've been shown that there's more nuance to what is generally called future sight than just literally being able to see the future - think of the wedding scene from WCI. First, of course, there is Bege's explicit comment that just because Katakuri is the only one present who can see the future doesn't mean he's the only one who can *change* the future. Second, of course, there's fact that when Katakuri realizes that the priest is going to be prevented from shooting Sanji and has him shot early, Sanji just dodges the bullet. Because Katakuri isn't aware of Sanji's full capabilities, he's unable to effectively "keep the future on track" the way he wants to, and Big Mom's plan is disrupted as though he was not there. Last, there's the moment in the Katakuri vs Luffy fight where Luffy is shot by Flampe. Katakuri doesn't react to that until after it happens, and initially isn't even aware of what's going on, because he's not aware of Flampe's presence.
All of this leads me to the following analysis: observation haki is, at its core, the ability to read the intent of your opponent. That's what we're shown in the arena at Kuja Island, that's what every mantra user except Aisa and Koby does, and that's what Rayleigh demonstrates when he's explaining haki to Luffy. This also fits with Sanji as the member of the monster trio who specializes in observation haki - he's always had a very good read on people's intent, from all the way back when he fed Gin. Advanced observation haki amounts to taking that read of intent and going a bit deeper, into what they *expect*. This is how Katakuri is initially able to evade all of Luffy's attacks - he's just reading where Luffy expects his punch to land and then not being there, whether by conventional dodging or by reshaping his body to avoid the hit. This is why Snakeman is so important to Luffy's victory - when he throws out a jet culverin, he doesn't have any expectation about where his punch is going to land, just that it'll hit Katakuri eventually, because he can keep redirecting the punch after it's thrown. Katakuri could probably just evade and evade and evade, and effectively run away from the fight (just like he advised Luffy to do at the beginning), but he can't do that while also remaining in range to attack, and thus can no longer attack Luffy with impunity. In the Apoo fight, the question is what Apoo intends and how his devil fruit works. Under this analysis, even if Luffy had his observation haki up, all he probably got from Apoo was something like "I'll make this weird noise and then they'll be cut/bruised/exploded", with no real mechanism by which he's aiming or even hitting, and thus no real way to respond other than to throw up a bit of armament haki. And for the Ulti fight, I think the key thing to remember is that Luffy has not been challenged in Wano by anyone remotely close to his caliber. Queen he probably wouldn't have underestimated, but everyone else he's fought in the arc has been varying degrees of "pretty tough" but otherwise a joke. My guess is that he assumed Ulti was someone like Hody - not really a threat to him, just ludicrously tough and annoying to put down. He probably figured that whatever she was going to do when she grabbed him wouldn't amount to much, and thus just let himself be grabbed because that sort of thing has worked to his advantage in the past. Then he realized how strong she actually was, and briefly freaked out - until Yamato showed up with every expectation of knocking her unconscious.

The major problem I had with haki was at Marineford. Let's assume that black coating is a slightly higher level of armament haki. So all the strong fighters were just reluctant to use it despite being in a life or death situation?? Or were they not even capable of that??
I mean wb could have easily dodged the bullets and stabs if he used the coating. So the strongest man in the world didn't even master CoA? I mean just look at how durable other yonkos like bm, kaido are.

Haki wasn't shown as something visible in these early days. Rayleigh for example definitely used Haki against Borsalino, but that wasn't shown either. The question is whether the black depiction of armament haki actually exists or whether it's just an abstraction that makes things easier for a visual medium like manga.

I’m interested to see Sanji’s and Zoro‘s growth as well. Will they unlock advanced Haki in any form? And they will definitely have become stronger to able to defeat King or Queen. Sanji may have his Raid Suit and Zoro Enma but I don’t think that is enough of they don’t have Haki matching King’s or Queen’s. I really don’t like how some people say that Zoro is already on King’s level because he clearly isn’t.
A whole other topic is: if Enma and Shusui are of the same grade, Zoro‘s strength shouldn’t really change switching from Shusui to Enma. Or are grade and strength of a sword not related? Or maybe Zoro couldn’t unlock Shusui‘s full potential/ability because he wasn’t strong enough? Shusui is a Black Blade though so technically it should be strong by itself (I’m heavily implying here that Enma does in fact make Zoro stronger than Shusui did, at the moment at least, because it wouldn’t make sense for Zoro to get a weapon that ultimately makes him weaker).
Also, does Enma have the ability to store and release Haki to make one Haki infused swing have stronger Haki than it’s user could initially release or to create some kind of Haki burst/blast? Do all of the better swords have a special ability we don’t know about yet, if not why is Enma special in that case? Or do all of the other strong swords just require it’s user to have really strong Haki and Enma doesn’t actually have a special ability but just introduces us to better swords with Shusui being an exception since it’s already a Black Blade?
A lot of questions but I think it’s definitely something worth discussing over, may it be in a comment section.

Joyboy’s theory of swords having spirits and individual characters is interesting. Clearly Enma (“cut through to the bottom of hell") and Ame no Habakiri (Snake-Slayer of Heaven) were described as to separate swords with distinct characters. Then you factor in cursed swords, that hunger for blood. It seems each well crafted sword has its own distinct character. Enma’s character just seems different from Shusui’s.

Luffy’s Observation Haki and Armament Haki should be much better than Zoro’s or Sanji’s. Again: just because Sanji specializes in Observation Haki doesn’t mean his is better than Luffy’s.

One thing I think you overlooked is that Haki was needed to increase the scale of one piece. If haki was never developed then whoever had the stronger devil fruit would win. Logia's would just be gods of one piece with no counters. You say it hasn't added much nuance but what it does is it increases the ceiling on power. Without Haki how does Luffy ever go past gear 3rd, honestly want more can he do with rubber. Because his fruit is more limited he needs another aspect to add to his moves. Katakuri would be much weaker without haki. Mochi is very soft and not very offensive. That Luffy vs katakrui fight would literally not happen if not for Haki. Oda just used haki to remove that cap on one piece strength. One piece is still going so luffy needs to get stronger and needs more moves. Devil fruits are too limiting on their own. So I would argue that it does add nuance because when combined with a devil fruit powers, haki widens the scopes of fights in both power and variety.

Imo haki is *way* too generic.
To the point that anything can be explained by haki and pretty much all characters going forward will have similar haki abilities, bcs they simply become a requirement.
Oda should have introduced different kinds of haki as separate magical abilities one obtains in different ways with no expectation that future characters will have the same abilities and with each ability being clearly defined.

    • @lovelife-cv8mn
      @lovelife-cv8mn 2 роки тому

If Oda did that, it would heavily contradict the story as there are already seperate abilities already (devil fruits, rokushiki, weapons, hashouken, fishman karate, etc), haki is basically the only ability that levels the plain field for every one else and makes the fights even possible most of the time, I don't see how haki is generic as we spend most of our time in the new world seeing different devil fruits, weapons, and fighting styles, most people don't even use haki in the series Soooo I don't get your point.

  • @vergonhaalheia9308

The thing about haki is that it is a kind of “power-up” the same way a non-devil fruit eater can beat a devil fruit eater, is the same way a non-haki user can beat a Haki-user, having a devil fruit or haki is a great help, but it doesn’t define the results of the battle before its start. Haki is necessary because some logias are completely overpowered, Luffy only could beat Enel because he is made of rubber and beat Crocodile because he was covered in water, but how can you beat fire, magma or even light?? And to sum up, it’s kind of necessary to learn it to go to the New World, after all, it’s a dangerous place and you need all the help you can get, Zoro awakened his haki against Mr. 1, a long time before the time-skip and Usopp awakened his in Dressrosa, meaning they don’t NEED haki to all it’s battles, but sure it does help them

  • @siegpasta
    @siegpasta 4 роки тому +2

But, as you said haki means ambition or aspiration or drive. basically another word for willpower. Which you already concluded, the guy with the stronger willpower will ALWAYS be stronger because it literally equals strength.
When they say "your haki is stronger than mine, therefore you can cut me" is just the same as saying "your willpower is stronger than mine, therefor you can cut me".
I don't see a problem here, it's fully consistent with what was before also I think you thought Zoro was cooler when it was mysterious about HOW he was able to be so good with the swords, ofcourse that's still how it is. But the reason he can cut others is because he has a stronger will than them, aka stronger haki.
That Zoro could cut Pika has nothing to do with swordsmanship being thrown under the bus at all. It was purely willpower. The "problem" as you want to make it out, is that the oponents has gotten so strong that the already superp swordsmanship from Zoro means less and yes, obviously!
When they, in the beginning of the series, only were fighting easy targets, ofcourse his super swordsmanship played a bigger role than what it does now. By every arc the difficulty of the oponents increased until we got to the timeskip, where it shot up dramatically but, so did the strawhats powers aswell in order to stay in check with the power of their enemies in the New World. It's truely a timeskip in the essence of it, so that we could finish the series sometime :D hehe
So, I really don't get your opposition to the idea that the fights have boild down to "my will is stronger, therfore I win" because each oponenet is so good that each of their own "combat skills" cancel eachother out.
I actually see no problem with this and think it's way cooler that some of those guys in One Piece are so strong purely because of their will, that they can punch some people out with just a finger.
Its mysterious and cool. There needs not to be more complex combat, even though we will get that with Luffy (invetably) if we don't want Luffy to go around 1 shotting every enemy (which we already have seen, is NOT the case).
    TLDR: HAKI FOR THE WIN.

12:00 On the point of Stringfruit, sword and the interaction between luffy and being cut.
Here is how i interpret those scenes. Luffys weakness is being cut, so a haki clad sword can cut his haki clad rubber fist.
Doflamingos strings didnt really cut in the same sense that a sword does. They force apard those things that in the way of it, given enough force is provided. Plus luffys gear forth makes his rubber qualities better while giving him protection.
So the fact that doflamingo cant "cut" him, is because he has no real ability to cut him. His strings dont work the same way that swords do.
Dont know if i am right on this but i also dont know of anything in the one piece verse that disproves me

Madara had a convenient jutsu for every ocasion, lol Doflamingo is just overpowered for no reason, he can even lock up a freaking admiral, lol and a warrior trained by Mihawk, Zoro and Fujitora can't cut the damn cage. If the logic of the plot got trowed out of the window in favor of (yet another, again, again) "time bomb" plot device, then it's useless to find any logic in a character like Doflamingo. He was just strong, Luffy was somehow stronger (in fact, Oda's back to the basics, rubber >>> strings, the best devil fruit wins).

It works well tho in the story of once piece, it is shown many times that the strongest wills are ontop of the world, as well as how well it works in terms of story like the luffy vs katakuri fight where katakuri has a very strong will and was fighting for what he thought was right but throughout the battle strays more and more away from what he thought which would make his haki grow weaker, especially in the end when he gives up since he has no reason left to fight luffy. Luffy also as a character works well in it since he is strong will personified, if luffy says he will do somthing he will do that, that is displayed through his words and his actions, like for example at the start where he says casually that he will become pirate king and doesnt care if he dies trying since he will become the pirate king, and it is also shown through action like how luffy managed to climb up the drum rocks that were 5000meters high barefeet, wearing little clothes, carrying someone on his back and with his teeth, and without gloves either, IN A BLIZZARD, and not only does he do it, but the first thing he does when rescued also is to tell them how much his friends means to him, and he still has the strengt and will to do this after all that. So it may to simpletons seem like a plot armour ability, but its sort of poetic and inspiring to see what Luffy does

In present time, I think haki gave much needed structure to levels in One Piece. But there have been times of inconsistency especially between parts that were drawn years apart. Its only natural, I don’t hold it against Oda. He’s probably just trying to maintain sense in powers, not focus on it like many fans do.
He cares way more about the story than power-scaling.

Doflamingo was one of the character pre timeskip that I do not want Luffy to ever mess with. He seems to be too OP. During pre timeskip he can manipulate people like puppet and easily cut off someone's head in a blink of an eye. But during the Dressrosa arc, Doflamingo only used the puppet technique once and that was after Luffy recovered his haki and before dealing the last blow. Doflamingo also never attempt to cut off Luffy's head. His entire ability became too obvious whereas during the pre timeskip he is somewhat invisible, and that create tension and suspense. Where will his attacks come from? When will he attack? If I let my guard down, he can cut off my head easily. But all of that tension is gone when he used "Overheat" or his awakening, which made all the strings so visible and easy to dodge. In the end it became a generic melee combat to see who hit harder.

Haki isnt a power system like normal power systems are. Usually you look at the technical aspects on what power systems add on to fights mechanically. This is not what the purpose of haki is. Haki is very clearly not designed to be the main power system in one piece not even being introduced/concieved until several hundred chapters into the story.
Where haki shines is in delivering thematic resonance. It literally means willpower. It is the function of how the world operates. People who have the will to put their ideals and life on the line grow in strength while those who give up on their dreams and lose their drive become weak. This is no more clear in characters like crocodile and moria. With crocodile we literally see him regain his drive and become significantly stronger in the story.
In a story with main themes incorporating inherited will and fighting for what your believe, I think its pretty beuatiful that willpower itself is strength. So is haki a bad power system? kind of. but thats not what its meant to be.

One thing you missed is Garp being able to hit Luffy - clearly Haki. Your theory that black armament is a slightly advanced armament would still hold true. The bigger thing that I still need clarity on is Doflamingo slicing Crocodile’s head off in Marineford. Was this just a case of Doffy not using his armament in order to glade Crocodile into teaming up? Or is this a slip-up by Oda? Crocodile should not have advanced observation Haki, as established in the Luffy fight. The problem lies in that Crocodile was portrayed as being able to hold his own against most of the fighters (Doflamingo included), which should not be the case without observation or armament.

About the Doffy and Crocodile one... It was the first one, being the case that Doffy wanted to recruit Crocodile as his ally. He was just teasing him. In the anime you can even tell that Croco wasn't surprised for that attack at all.

    • @ThatAlphamonDude17

And the fact that Crocodile was able to hold a fight against a lot of fighters in Marineford meant nothing due to him being unable to truly damage Akainu for example when he cut him in half. It just meant that he had a great physical strenght enough to keep up in certain areas that do not required Haki. Luffy, unable to use haki did also a great performance there. The video itself explains the importance of phisical fights in the series.

@@ThatAlphamonDude17 Crocodile didn't sense Doflamingo. If he had observation Haki, he would have been able to dodge Luffy's punches. Doflamingo was playing, sure, but had he not been playing, he could have easily killed Crocodile right then and there. That is the issue. Luffy not fearing for his life made sense due to his disregard for his own safety in rescuing Ace. But Crocodile not fearing for his life getting cut by Doffy, or attacking Akainu or WB doesn't make sense given his cautious and meticulous nature. He was portrayed as being able to hold his own, when he shouldn't actually have been able to do so. The only way this would make sense is if it were established that Crocodile had enough Haki to see Doffy attacking him, or damage Akainu (using armament), which we have seen to not be the case due to his fight with Luffy.
To be honest that early Crocodile fight is such a big plot-hole in regards to power-scaling and haki. I understand Oda didn't know how long the series would last, and he created a good narrative structure around the Alabasta saga, but consistency wise it should have been a post Moria arc.

It's even possible Croc understands how Doffy operates a bit since they were shichibukai for quite a while. And I don't really agree with the attacking WB or Akainu part. He attacked Akainu at exactly the most cautious time, Akainu would have no intention pursuing Croc because of it since he has a bigger fish to catch.
With WB, this is the man who crushed his dream and maybe even the reason his hand is gone. Croc has been shown to get worked up even in alabasta.
I disagree with your statement on Croc's placement in the story. It was perfect.

as a Gamer I would like to put it this way, A AWM has high damage (df) but in a 1v1 it can be defeated by a lower damaging gun (df) with help of maxed out/better attachments (haki).
I think Katakuri vs Luffy very similar to this means having the same guns and same attachments, that is the reason the fight could go either way and decided to tied in the end.
Now if a case where someone has broken weapon (df) and best attachments (haki) how can someone counter that ? well the answer is simple, "TEAMWORK AND NUMBERS". There's a reason Luffy or Zoro can't defeat Kaido on their own. Its like an Admiral vs Yonko scenario, 1 admiral (suppose luffy) can't beat a YONKO (Kaido) but 2 admirals (AOKIJI+AKAINU who have extreme teamwork and experience with each other) can defeat a YONKO. But because Luffy and Zoro are not strong enough they need a 3 admiral (LAW/ KID) to defeat Kaido.

Snakeman was so fast it was hard for Katakuri to fully dodge it.

I believe haki is the result of noticing that the DF countering system of pre-haki one piece was eventually going to hit a wall. Sure, rubber could beat electricity, but how could rubber defeat fire? Sure, water can counter sand, but how do you counter strings? Haki. It also allows non-DF users to keep up. I think the problem that I potentially see with haki, is it becoming angry face number battles like dbz. Which I highly doubt given oda's attention to his fights. Ultimately, I feel like haki or "willpower" is the progenitor to everything we seen in the series. Potentially the advance form of conquerors would be conquering death. I.e. Rouge holding her pregnancy for an additional 11 months, or WB fighting while having several fatal injuries.

jojo rules for the stands - Stands do follow a set of rules but I will admit that they are very general and a few of them are exceptions to the rules but Stands do follow a set of rules:
One person can only have one Stand
Stands can only be affected by other Stands
If a Stand is injured, the user themselves get injured ((except for automatic Stands)
    )
The strength/presicion of a Stand is inversely proportional to the distance of it to the user.
Stands move and act according to a user's will
Depending on user, a Stand can develop further
( similar to tusk and echoes )
These 'rules' were taken from a bonus chapter from Part 7. So these might be more applicable to Stands from Part 7 on wards rather than Parts 3 to 6.

Ill have to slightly disagree with you. Advanced haki forms greatly change how battles are fought. Future sight not just allows you to see what your opponent will do, but what’s going to happen in the surroundings. The main allure is that it let’s you foil the enemies plans before they start. Advanced armament has just recently been introduced, but when perfected it can damage even the most durable of opponents and lets you do wide scale damage by destroying the surroundings inside out.
The base fundamentals of haki is to be used as a counter to devil fruits (observation lets you predict unknown abilities and armament lets you attack intangible beings). Haki will never be on the level of Nen because it is only a supplement to power. Nen is the entire power system while haki’s serves to further improve your physical capabilities (strength, sense, and will). All in all, it isn’t perfect on it’s own, but when combined with the many martial arts, sword skills, and devil fruits of the one piece world, it fits perfectly.
Only thing I want is for Oda to explain the basics more, such as if focusing armament at one point is stronger than spreading it across your body.

The issue is Haki is very vague and Oda barely ever goes into detail, it's always the fans that have to assume things, which is stupid. Compare this to Hxh, where Togashi is so meticulous with the fights and use of Nen. Like seriously, 90% of the discussion surrounding Haki is just interpretation from fans and not actual facts from the manga, because those facts don't exist.

Personally, typically, the way I look at anything in fiction is that as long as my sense of immersion isn't broken then I tend to not sweat the tiny details as much - which is not for everyone I know. Say, Luffy versus Crocodile - nothing in those fights felt off-putting or out of place to me and even looking back on it, I have a few complaints, like the subject of Crocodile of not using any Haki but then again nothing about that fight is ruined over all in my eyes. I completely understand that more analytical people may be bothered by it, this is simply my own stance.

I understand the necessity of haki and can heavily appreciate how Oda has planted the seeds throughout the entire story... But at the end of the day I do think it has taken away creativity from One Piece's fights. The way I saw One Piece fights before the timeskip is that they were 90% Dragon ball and 10% JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. That they were mostly straight up confrontations peppered with a small amount of problem solving when it came to a foe with a trick devil fruit power. Where there used to be a small AH HA moment that the character would figure out how to turn the tables with an opponents ability has now been erased since Haki was created. (Granted, this can depend on which characters are fighting.) To go further with the Jo Jo comparison it feels like Oda created Hamon after already creating Stands which has effectively pushed out that 10% of JoJo's influence and made the series' fights 100% dragon ball. Just two strong guys where only one can have the most amount of power... Luckily Haki isn't as nebulous of an internal energy source that can run out whenever it's convenient in the story as Ki or Chakra, but ties into a characters actual will since that's what the word means anyway and the theme of will is baked into the story as a whole. I have other small nitpicks with Haki, but I'll save em' in order for this comment to not become a wall of text lol
TLDR: I like Haki story wise. But creatively, I think it's a boring power that uniforms the variety of that the devil fruits have into playing 2nd banana in order of importance.
