The Great Outdoors is another great one with Candy.
Just watched this again last week. loved it...again.
It has slapstick comedic elements very much like Trains, Planes, and Automobiles, and it was written and produced by, you guessed it, John Hughes! Definitely another good one to watch.
Came on here to say the same thing.
The raccoons were the funniest co-stars.
Came here to recommend this one as well, I haven't seen it in ages, but there's so many parts that stick with you.
Cool Runnings - The First Jamaican Bobsleigh Team.
Cool Runnings is a lot of fun
Based on a true story.
Based on the Calgary Winter Olympics and the first Jamaican Bobsled Team.
Agreed. I second that motion.
great movie, true story
"John Candy" is a national treasure. The fact he was born in Canada surprises no one. We in Canada loved him. I met him at an Argonauts game (CFL) where he co-owned the team. He was SUPER friendly. A great one missed.
It sucks when these big guys go so early
My parents were at an Argos game one evening when John Candy was attending, and when everyone saw him out near/on the field, the crowd started chanting, “Uncle Buck! Uncle Buck!” And he smiled and waved to the crowd.
Hes the bloody best canuck ever. Hes our dearly beloved for sure🍁
Here in Germany we Love John Candy too ❤️
I would've love to have met him.
"Is that what FedEx stands for?!" - OMG you literally trying to kill me.
The funniest part of the video, rofl
I cannot watch this movie without thinking of this reaction now it made me howl 🤣
i lost it on that one to.
We witnessed a FedExistential crisis.

Ferris buellers day off.... another john hughes film ..... P.S. Im on the reverse trajectory... cigarretes, joints then finally crack cocaine.
...splash... john candy was in that too.
You saddened me, girl. The Breakfast Club is one of my favorite movies.
"She looks and sounds really familiar". Jackie from Roseanne.
John Candy is a comedy GOD. What a loss. He lived hard, burned brighter than the sun and left some amazing footage for us.
"John Candy is a national treasure."

This is the movie that got Macaulay Culkin the leading part in Home Alone.
John Candy, was such a wonderful actor, and man in real life.

That is my favorite John Candy movie! So very underappreciated.
Just watched this the other day so funny a classic john candy movie
Great movie
Who's Harry Crumb really is a must see for John Candy fans! You'd absolutely love it!

My favorite John Candy film. Definitely.

The deadpan staccato back and forth talking between Candy and Culkin in that breakfast scene is parodying the style of a long-running TV cop drama, "DRAGNET," where the detectives would grill suspects and witnesses with a "Just the facts" admonition. The Dan Aykroyd/Tom Hanks DRAGNET movie was a full-on parody of the show.
Oh yea the Dragnet movie! I havent thought about in forever.
Macaulay Culkin was a big Dragnet fan as a kid, and he would often do a Jack Webb impression in interviews.
The funniest line in the video was when you said "my millennial is showing". Girl, it sure was! LMAO!

“Cool Runnings” with John Candy is good. BTW I think he took a pay cut to be in the movie.
Yea he did take a pay cut because he believed in the script it and actually lobbied for it.
I think it was his best acting in cool runnings
Cool Runnings and Great Outdoors are two of my favorite John Candy movies.
And Cool Runnings is based on a true story. A more serious role for him. Comic actors make the best drama actors.
It was the last film he shot, although not the last one released.
"Is that what Fed Ex stands for?!?" was the funniest line in this review.
@Leonard Dunham It was called Federal Express until 2000

True..
Underrated John Candy movie: Summer Rental

"Why is this not a better known movie", lol. It was. There was even a show after it.
Man we have lost so many actors but John Candy still brings tears to my eyes
He was hilarious but he has this quality that every time you seen him u felt like everything is going to be ok.... such a great loss
"Is that what Fed-Ex stands for?" I'm dying here lol
John Candy is also in "Splash" from 1984 with young Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah (It's about a mermaid!!)
I loved that movie!!!!
Ashleigh, I feel the same way about John Candy. Brilliant, funny, GREAT actor!! He should have won an Oscar or at least a nomination for Planes, Trains & Automobiles. LOVE him!!!
I was 8 when the 80's began and 18 at the end of the decade. To say I grew up with most of the films you're watching is an understatement. No internet, no cellphones, we had no computer at home the entire time, I lived breathed, eat and slept these films. I vividly remember Rocky IV and Top Gun in the cinema just as I was old enough to go on my own, and then into the 90's I would build my VHS collections of all the films I saw and missed.
The number one lesson to learn from having seen Uncle Buck (you've already learned that John Candy is a LEGEND), is that John Hughes kind of knew what he was doing when it came to making movies. (I'm being sarcastic of course). The fact that he wrote, directed, produced a film that hits so many of the right notes, and then look at the casting, and then how the film has stood up so many years later.... and I've limited this comment to just the films in the 80's, there are many more in the 90's and 2000's as well.
So, take a look at the other John Hughes films and there are many more gems to be found. A 'few' that are some of my personal favourites and would be in my all time top 100, many in the top 20:
In no particular order: The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, She's Having A Baby, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Some Kind Of Wonderful. For several of these, be sure to have the tissues at the ready. The scripts, drama, writing, and film making, just brilliantly done.
Of particular note The Breakfast Club, referenced heavily in Pitch Perfect and no doubt many other films, this is one of my all time favourites; and Some Kind Of Wonderful (another film very dear to my heart), whoever was responsible for selecting the music for the soundtrack, one of the best soundtracks of all time. They assembled some really seriously good tracks, often from obscure and unknown artists, many of which nobody will have heard of, which are now iconic because of the film.
The casting, well it's difficult to know where to begin. Molly Ringwald (several films), Andrew McCarthy, Kevin Bacon, Matthew Broderick, Mary Stuart Masterson, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez.....
Great to see how much enjoyment you get from discovering these films. I could easily give you a list of 100 films everyone should see before they die, a bucket list if you will, of all kinds of genres, and eras. It's a Wonderful Life is definitely the oldest in the list and it took me a long time to realise I should see it. It kept coming up on these top 100 lists and I looked at the year it was made and was (very wrongly) dismissive of it. What a huuuge mistake that was. So invested was i in the characters that I was a complete mess by the end. Definitely one for the bucket list if you haven't already experienced it. Schindler's List was another film that I knew it was important that I saw and it was a good few years after it was released that I made the time to get a copy and ensure I wouldn't be interrupted. I'd heard of friends reactions when they saw it, and I sobbed for minutes as the credits rolled. I've only ever watched it the once, and it is high on my all time best list. It's one of those films that you just have to watch to understand why it is so important as a film.
Keep enjoying what you do and good luck on the channel growing and growing. All the very best.
For John Hughes movies you gotta see Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Splash is a Tom Hanks movie with John Candy. And The Good Son is Caulkin in a different kind of role.
"What is Federal Express?"
"OH! Is that FedEx?"
I have been watching your videos since this weekend. That might be my favorite moment.
You need to see "cool runnings", great john candy movie.
Seconded! One of his last roles and a sweet under dog movie.
A great movie and role, although worth noting that on his part it's pretty much a non-comedic role, even though the movie overall is probably rated as a comedy.
love that movie and the great outdoors is also a good film as well
YES! Good shout.
I Second that.
For more John Candy, please see " Brewster's Millions " the main star may be the late, great Richard Pryor, but John Candy is a fantastic co-star!
Yes! Love that movie
That's a classic! And the 7th remake of a movie made in 1921.
YESSSS!
Two greats, John Candy & Richard Pryor.
I have recommended Brewster's Millions every single time I've recommended a film in these comments and I will continue to do so. Just a fantastic film. One of Pryor's best.
You need to look at Candy's "Summer Rental", and "Canadian Bacon" and "Stripes" and his appearances on SCTV from Canadian Television.... he was Canadian you know know... and his final film was called "Wagons East" you previously saw mel brooks John Candy played in "Spaceballs" a Mel Brooks spoof on "Star Trek" and "Star wars" millenial
Summer Rental: "Here's a little sea ditty that me mother taught me... The Sea! Exciting and new!"
"Always safety with this kid, no matter what family he's with"
Wow. That's an unfortunate joke given what the Culkin family was like when he was growing up.
Fun fact: Home Alone got made because of this film. John Hughes had been wanting to make a film about Christmas with a child lead and he thought Macaulay might be able to do it after this film.
I kinda assumed Candy showed up on set, to show Culkin a friendly face. And likely, so say 'hi' to his SCTV pal, Kathrine O'Hara.
Marcy is Laurie Metcalf. She is the voice of the mom on Toy Story, the sister/aunt on Roseanne/The Connors, and Sheldon's mom on The Big Bang Theory (among many other roles)
She's an absolute legend.
Field of dreams also.
Funnily enough she and candy would work together in JFK a couple of years later
And Laurie's daughter is the mom on Young Sheldon
She was the mom from Toy Story?
John Candy is my ALL-TIME favorite actor. And Uncle Buck is my favorite John Candy movie.
The scene of him on the phone is absolutely priceless. I love John Candy, RIP buddy. This movie is so good.
“Who’s Harry Crumb?” is a fantastic John Candy movie!
Definetly. This one tickled my cheesey bone. For some reason his lesser known movie "Delirious" got me also. It could be a valentines movie. Not sure if its everyone's cup of tea. It is also where I found out when cold deer is bad.

“John Candy is a national treasure.” John Candy was Canadian 😉 But he is buried in California and deserves to be adopted as an American national treasure.
Also, Buck’s girlfriend is played by Amy Madigan and the little girl is played by Gabby Hoffman. Both are in a movie perfect for MMM: Field of Dreams.

I think Father's Day is the perfect time of year to watch Field of Dreams, if you've seen it, it should be obvious why.
She had a real "I was today years old when I realized" moment when she found out what FedEx stood for
You should react to "Turner and Hooch" with Tom Hanks, it has the perfect balance if comedy and action
Earlier in his career he had a great part in "Stripes" starring Bill Murray and Harold Ramos (both you will know from Ghostbusters).
I don’t think you need to remind her that Murray was in Ghostbusters. I remember Ash saying words to the effect that a young Bill Murray could get it. 😆
“Stripes” has both John Candy and Bill Murray. You’ll love it.

Lighten up Francis!
A Lean, Mean, Fighting Machine!! Love it!
"How's it going, Eisenhower?"
"Only the Lonely" (1991) is probably John Candy's best movie. It allowed him to stretch his range and do dramatic acting in a few scenes. Better yet, he had to do drama with the legendary Maureen O'Hara, who could dominate a lesser actor. John Candy held his own and their dramatic scenes are amazing. It gives you an even deeper look than "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" at the kind of dramatic actor he likely would've eventually become. I highly recommend this one; comedy, drama, and a love story, even if it does leave you with the bittersweetness of what might've been.
Back when comedies were actually funny
John Candy movie honoring "same character, but every movie is so different": His last one: _Canadian Bacon_

“Volunteers!” John Candy plays “Tom Tuttle from Tacoma Washington”. Also starring Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson where they first met.
John Candy being a national treasure is an understatement. When he died the nation mourned for almost a month. There were so many remembrance specials and tributes and both public tv and cable movie channels played all of his movies, on repeat, non-stop. Even though... he is Canadian-born. I would say maybe his worse film would be "Wagons East", but that being said I do personally enjoy it quite a bit. Then less than three years later we lost Chris Farley who everyone thought was going to be the next John Candy. It was a tough time.
