I had the honor of hanging out with John for about 3 days straight as his limo driver in Wash, D.C back around 1985. He was so humble (typical Canadian) that I only just found out he was way more successful and financially wealthy than his persona led on to be. What a class act and great soul he was. We went to Annapolis where he was given a VIP tour of the Naval Academy...then most memorable was our stop at the FBI headquarters where he had been given a tour of the facility. Even though I've spent over 40 years driving celebrities, I can say I've never seen one stand and sign autographs for hours (for free), go thru 3 pens and stay until there wasn't a single person around before he let himself leave. I'm still amazed! He was so generous, he even laughed at my bad jokes! What a great human being John Candy was!🙏

I think the movie would’ve been better if they finished the story arc with Culkin’s character becoming popular due to Buck. Maizy got a scene where he stuck up for her quirkiness and shamed the school admin, but Miles only got ones with kids looking like Buck made things worse. The 2nd scene in the subplot with the neighbor is super awkward due to a lack of the middle scene at the grocery store where she says she’s attracted to him despite not understanding why. Without that scene it would’ve been best to shorten the one where they are dancing & she’s creepily throwing herself at him down to just her stopping by and saying “so when are you going to ask me out to lunch?” and his gf shows up right at that moment and storms off. With that scene shortened 2-3 mins I think you can add the 8-10 they cut with the lunches & extended clown scene.

This seems to be a reoccurring theme with John Hughes films. His films were often double the length of what we finally see, yet as time goes on and DVDs and Blu-Rays come out with the ability to have directors cuts and/or deleted scenes, his films like Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck lack much, if any, deleted scenes. Planes has the deleted scene on the airplane when they have their food, which is likely there since it’s put into the film whenever it airs on television to edit out the scene Neil goes into his profanity laced rant. Unfortunately for Uncle Buck, many of these scenes aren’t available to see outside of the few snippets of deleted footage that we can see in the trailer. It would be great if one day we see home video releases of extended versions or at least deluxe editions of these films that features all the removed footage that Hughes initially had in his first cut of these films in a deleted scenes section. People would defiantly love to see more footage from Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
What's interesting however is that a longer version of The Breakfast Club was released in the mid 1980's and played on local TV affiliates. ( In my case channel 20 WTXX in CT) I do not recall any other Hughes movie to receive that treatment. Also the Criterion Blu Ray did not include this other version, nor any of the extra scenes, instead using inferior rough cut footage. There is obviously a market for these early cuts and hopefully a creative executive might try and release them one day. The early B/W edit of Star Wars alone would likely earn Disney a fortune.
It's common for assembly edits to be several hours long, then the director helps whittle it down to merely way too long, (that's what "director's cut" actually is), then studio people often help refine it further.
I cried like a baby when I heard John had passed away. Part of me was so sad for him dying at such a young age. Part sad for his wife, his kids, his closest and dearest friends. But most of all, what he meant to me. I know that sounds selfish but It still hurts today.
Universal Studios had a huge fire in 2008 that destroyed a whole lot of original material; both music and movie masters. As much as I hate to say it, it's entirely possible that any additional footage is not rotting in a vault, but rather, burned in a vault, and it's gone forever. I hope not, though.
I wouldn't give up hope. I remember being surprised when Warner Bros released remastered versions of the first 37 Tom and Jerry shorts on blu-ray from their original uncesored film prints. I, and possibly other people, thought they had been lost in the old MGM vault fire. But, it seems like they were saved somewhere. Although Warner Bros hasn't released the next set of shorts yet, which makes me wonder if some of them are still missing.
Good point but I hope not. Look at the Halloween 6 Producer's Cut. It was said to be lost by Miramax for 19 years, and eventually a negative was discovered after enough looking. Got remastered for Blu, now this pristine HD version it's pretty common in circulation out there. Don't give up hope on it. I just think it's sad that action classics & comedy classics don't get the same TLC on home video that horror does. Would love to see a big anniversary release for Uncle Buck packed with alternate versions and/or bonus content. Even if Universal has to license it out to someone like Shout Factory.
It has occurred where other copies were made and stored elsewhere. Unfortunately they're usually not logged, so it's just luck if they're found. An example is The Wicker Man (1973). The studio behind it (British Lion) hated the Director's Cut so much that they literally destroyed footage they didn't like. Decades later, it turned out the DC had been sent to Roger Corman's company to distribute in the States, and this had played there at the time. British Lion never asked for prints back, and so it stayed with Corman forgotten about. After years of only the BL approved cut on video release anywhere in the world, Corman found the DC and that got released to great reviews!
@@weirdproq I agree, never say never - because Arrow released a special edition Blu-ray of Weird Science (which is also a Universal film) a few years back that has an extended cut with additional footage (all in HD) and they even included the re-edited TV version. :)
Thank you for championing this cause, so eloquently. It’s something I’ve spoken about for decades to whoever would listen, most who would chuckle it off as a novelty. The idea of these reels deteriorating in a paramount vault thousands of miles from me made me feel so helpless. It’s so refreshing to see I wasn’t alone after all.
I think they should’ve left the longer fight scene with John and the clown were he destroys the mouse car and that line were John candy’s asks the kids complaining about the clown “what are you guys in to ? strippers “?😆
His father, Lionel, didn't have too much foresight though. He entrusted the family firm to the hands of Eliot Dreisen. Last I saw, he was still hanging around at the airport though.
He's still making people laugh & smile to this day decades after his passing That's how special he was & why he'll always be missed Sweetdreams & godbless John Candy
Something told me that Culken was a much deeper character to the movie. He had the talent to bring a deeper appreciation for it. It is sad those scenes were deleted. JC obviously was not only a great actor and comic, but a great hearted lovable human being. I wish I had had a chance to meet him in RL.

I really like your heartwarming "speech" at the end regarding our loss of history, and gratitude that the films exist at all. To me, movies are American history and some people don't value it as much as we do. Movies and music are what life is all about in the end. Whether it's memories of going to see Raiders of the Lost Ark as a kid with your family, or seeing RUSH live. It's all we have.

I kinda wish there’s a blu-ray collection of John Hughes films that have all his films in both the cut and uncut versions on them so you can either watch it as you remember them or as the extended version
Thank you for sharing these clips and info. It is indeed sad that so many of the outtakes are sitting in a film vault. I loved John Candy's work particularly Uncle Buck. Such a talented actor. Gone too soon and sadly missed.
I've been borderline obsessed with all the deleted scenes, dream sequence, different actor choices for the custodian and even rumored 2 different endings with The Breakfast Club.
Dang you make some heartwarming tributes to movies and actors- especially and specifically John Candy. I swear, since discovering your channel I’ve been watching all these old 80’s movies I always knew of but never really even considered before. But Uncle Buck was a childhood classic for me, so this one hits home
Uncle Buck will always be in my top 10 favorite movies, definitely my favorite feel-good movie, and of course, who wouldn't want to see more John Candy especially as Uncle Buck
One of my favorite movies as well! Thank you for your valuable insight and putting this video together. Completely agree. It is a shame such valuable and enriched content is probably sitting in a basement collecting dust. Scary to think it will be lost forever.
Almost every movie has been cut from their original version. Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, Ferris Bueller, & Batman 89. It's hard to find that original cut. But, it happens.
Hopefully Shout Factory can re-release this film on blu-ray with some of that stuff included. They seem to have a good relationship with Universal with releasing their movies in better quality and with more special features.
John candy was in blues brothers and I think his little suit and sunglasses bit in the school scene here was his own kind of reference to that movie which would make sense.
I agree they should’ve left the longer fight scene were John destroys the mouse car and the kids are watching by the window entertained. It would’ve an epic memorable scene and made the movie more famous. I will never understanding they edited it out
Very nice. Thank you. The segment about the "popular lunch" would have been killer in the movie. So glad I got to see that part of the story line. Great job here.
Being that it’s over 30 years later, I doubt the cut footage still exists now. When footage was cut back then, it went into a vault, before eventually being destroyed.
Thank you thank you sooo much for making these john candy movie videos!!!!! One of my favorites ever.. huge part of my life growing up... great to see his impact is still strong
I remembered when he introduced the show on a lost episode of Saved by the Bell. It was weird seeing Zack Slater and Screech talking to John about his new cartoon.
Uncle Buck was such a great little film. Candy was born for the role. I still find myself quoting memorable lines all these years later. I wish they had an uncut restored version for fans to rejoice in nowadays.
Nice job on this one - a really thoughtful and respectful handling of the material - your balancing of the art of movie making and realities of Hollywood was commendable. I miss Candy and wonder what other archived or lost footage we can hopefully be treated to someday - if the people that run Hollywood had the same concerns and respect for history as you and I. Thanks for compiling and sharing this one !!
"Your car's on fire!!" "No no, it's just a lil oil. .. listen you know where there is a party around here?" "Oh, our son is there" "Well, my niece is there" "You better not go there with that hat on, they'll kill ya"
Its such a fantastic film, watched again for the first time in years and remembered why I love it. Its very funny with brilliant dialogue and comedic scenes but it also has some much nuisance and layers to it that you see more as an adult, the characters are brilliant, the story is genuine and heart warming while never being cheesy. Just a great family film.

Love this channel. Shame we dont get these hughes style films anymore. Some directors or writers need to take notes from these movies. So much emotion and heart that is lost on the colder blockbusters of today. We need more of these personal stories. Hughes films basically made the 80's. I looked up his IMDB and he has way more than even I thought. I didnt realize that basically every iconic movie of the decade was one of his. Unreal
I say the same a lot. I don't mind a lot of the big movies today but we're missing the coming of age stories with heart like they did before, especially his movies. There is room enough for both but they don't seem to want to make them.

I am very defiant in my desire for extra footage
Oh, and he likes kids....there's that
@@stephenbaldassarre2289 assembly cut is different to director's cut
Hughes and Candy. What a combination. Both gone way too soon. The short clip of John waving goodbye always gets me.
It's so heartbreaking to know that there's so much filmed material that may never be seen again. 🙁
Especially of John Candy!
But also heart warming to know that one day they may be released.
Brand new Uncle Buck footage!
It feels like if audiences weren't so fussy about film length we could have so much more.
I cried like a baby when I heard John had passed away. Part of me was so sad for him dying at such a young age. Part sad for his wife, his kids, his closest and dearest friends. But most of all, what he meant to me. I know that sounds selfish but It still hurts today.
Everybody loves John.
Me too, I was only 9.
Let's hope not :-(
Good point but I hope not.
Thank you so much for placing this on UA-cam he was an absolute treasure a one-of-a-kind a great actor God bless him always
John Candy will always remain part of our hearts he is the best Canadian ever!
I was literally laughing at the wacky lunch food storyline. That definitely shoulda made it.
I think they should’ve left the longer fight scene with John and the clown were he destroys the mouse car and that line were John candy’s asks the kids complaining about the clown “what are you guys in to ? strippers “?😆
Such a great film. I’d definitely love to see more scenes in a future release. We need it.
To be honest, I think there is only one person who can track down all the missing footage. That man... Harry Crumb. Who's Harry Crumb you may ask?
That’s right, THE Harry Crumb.
His father, Lionel, didn't have too much foresight though. He entrusted the family firm to the hands of Eliot Dreisen. Last I saw, he was still hanging around at the airport though.
Crumb could get it ✔️ done!
...you find that crazy typewriter....and you'll have your kidnappers...
“My reputation proceeds me, or else I’d be late to all my appointments.”
It was this movie, seeing Mac Culkin’s talented acting, that John Hughes wrote Home Alone, wanting him to play Kevin
I love the scene where Buck arrives at his brothers house and starts shouting at the house across the road ...
Bob! Bob! Yo Bobby!!!!
SO funny !!!!!
I'm gettin mad Bob!
You know how many big White House’s are on this street!
He's still making people laugh & smile to this day decades after his passing
That's how special he was & why he'll always be missed
Sweetdreams & godbless John Candy
Every freaking one of these leads to a tear - the nostalgia you uncover in my 💜 really feels nice. You do special work sir - don't ever 🛑...
Love planes trains and automobiles.
Miss the chill feel of old movies like that.
John and John. Two of the best we ever had to entertain us! They don’t make em’ like either one of them anymore..... 🍿 🎥👍
Rest in peace to John and John. May they both be together in heaven 🙏 they are Legendary!!
Ok you got me on this one (tear) Love your content! You got my
The one dislike is the production company’s vault guard
Something told me that Culken was a much deeper character to the movie. He had the talent to bring a deeper appreciation for it. It is sad those scenes were deleted. JC obviously was not only a great actor and comic, but a great hearted lovable human being. I wish I had had a chance to meet him in RL.
I feel like uncle Buck is the uncle we all need in our families...instead of the creepy ones that scar us.
Sounds like you need a new family..
Why do I think you deliberately meant to say SCAR instead of SCARE
glen lynas I was thinking the same thing but it was probably a typo
EASY THERE...DON'T TAR ALL US UNCLES WITH THE SAME BRUSH !!!
What kind of uncles did you have? I think they offer therapy for that… lol.
Amazing vid that resparked memories and interest into the movie. I didn't want this video to end.
A complex man but epic comedic talent - John Candy will always be a part of my80s/90s life. As an 80s kid myself.
And also from his voluminous work on Second City Television.
That's where I first fell in love with Candy.
I can't even think how many times I've watched this movie. It's simply one of the funniest, most heart warming and genuinely charming comedy movies of all time.
I love all your videos , I even went and watched some of the movies I never saw growing up thanks to your videos. Keep up the good work!
- A dedicated viewer!
I have Uncle Buck and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles on DVD. I love those movies.
I can watch this over and over and not get sick of his humor. Rest Easy John Candy
Man, I watched “Uncle Buck” on New Year’s Day, crazy....
I'd give anything to see Rush again, and will always be grateful I had the chance.
John Candy’s daughter has a UA-cam channel “Couch Candy.” She interviews a lot of her dads friends. She is super cute and looks just like her dad.
She's be as fat as her dad if looked just like him how is that super cute? I saw woman similar looking to Napoleon Dynamite but better looking did not look just like him but did look like could be related.
She's the only kind of Candy a fat kid would say no to.
Uncle Buck was a go to in my house as a kid. love it!
grew up on this movie and as an adult used it as a blueprint to be a cool uncle. thanks for sharing more of this classic to enjoy!
Candy was and still is one of my actors of all time. He was so likable and down to earth. That is a life lesson I live by.
I hope that one day a lot of this footage can be seen again, John Candy is an absolute legend.
Glad I had this channel recommended.
Very interesting topic. You really did great with the research and narration.
Now this is something I can sit back and binge watch with a large bowl of popcorn.
Batman forever also had an original cut hitop films talked about it, it sounded pretty good
This is a great effort - I enjoyed it very much. I would definitely pay for outtakes of these films. PT&A is my favorite movie of all time.
I actually just watched this again on HBOmax for the first time years. A classic. Still is.
Couldn’t have Uncle Buck without Aunt Jackie.
Hopefully Shout Factory can re-release this film on blu-ray with some of that stuff included. They seem to have a good relationship with Universal with releasing their movies in better quality and with more special features.
I loved the "heart" I saw come through with John Candy each time I watched this movie, and the laughs it always gives me.
Wait a minute: Buck lives across from Wriggly Field. Is Uncle Buck the PI from Blues Brothers?
orange whip?
@@Psilocybin77 THREE ORANGE WHIPS
@Cuthbert Bracegirdle You know, I kinda like the Wrigley Field bit.
John candy was in blues brothers and I think his little suit and sunglasses bit in the school scene here was his own kind of reference to that movie which would make sense.
I wish there was the full version of T’s, P’s, & A’s out there to watch.
" It's so rare so rare that clowns get their butts overhauled" this line should have remained in the movie had to stop video laughing so hard !!!!!
I agree they should’ve left the longer fight scene were John destroys the mouse car and the kids are watching by the window entertained. It would’ve an epic memorable scene and made the movie more famous. I will never understanding they edited it out
so many John Hughes films I enjoy watching over and over again and again. Thank you John Hughes for what you have given us. may you rest in peace.
Not this too?! I'm still annoyed about the missing Planes footage.
THere is missing Footage From Planes Trains and Automobiles? i never knew that my favorite John Candy Movie damn now i have to do some research
Very nice. Thank you. The segment about the "popular lunch" would have been killer in the movie. So glad I got to see that part of the story line. Great job here.
Being that it’s over 30 years later, I doubt the cut footage still exists now. When footage was cut back then, it went into a vault, before eventually being destroyed.
The Criterion blu ray of The Breakfast Club has almost an hour of deleted scenes so it's entirely possible they exist.
Wow thanks for that positive insight on the situation. You broke my heart and got me frustrated all in one sentence.
Thank you thank you sooo much for making these john candy movie videos!!!!! One of my favorites ever.. huge part of my life growing up... great to see his impact is still strong
I'd love to see your opinion on Camp Candy. I don't think it's a great cartoon by any means, but Candy made the show worth watching at any rate.
I remembered when he introduced the show on a lost episode of Saved by the Bell. It was weird seeing Zack Slater and Screech talking to John about his new cartoon.
I used to watch Camp Candy in the early 90s. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Toxic Crusaders and Ghost Writer on Saturday mornings
Great job assembling all the Uncle Buck videos and detailed script overview. Perhaps one day we'll all be able to see the unaired Candy footage.
Uncle Buck was such a great little film. Candy was born for the role. I still find myself quoting memorable lines all these years later. I wish they had an uncut restored version for fans to rejoice in nowadays.
I love this. All that John Hughes imagination and dialogue that wasn't used is so perfect. Thank you for sharing!!
Honestly, these are classic movies that deserve a Directors cut. Screw length, we need the vision. The actors alone could hold up the movies..
John Candy is one of those very special actors that no one else can compare to. He's one of my all time favourites.
I am so glad I discovered this channel. This was fantastic.
"Your car's on fire!!"
"No no, it's just a lil oil. .. listen you know where there is a party around here?"
"Oh, our son is there"
"Well, my niece is there"
"You better not go there with that hat on, they'll kill ya"
Its such a fantastic film, watched again for the first time in years and remembered why I love it. Its very funny with brilliant dialogue and comedic scenes but it also has some much nuisance and layers to it that you see more as an adult, the characters are brilliant, the story is genuine and heart warming while never being cheesy. Just a great family film.
Candy was a comic genius, RIP John, gone too soon!
Thanks for showing this. . .John Candy was a rare one of a kind person who acted. . .Uncle Buck. . .Such a Fun Movie!
Get in your mouse and get out of here.
That's such a good line.
You could use that for anything. A t shirt, or when your daughter has a guy over you don't like.
Lol get in your mouse and get out of here.
How have I not seen your Lost Versions? This was beautifully done. Thank you.
We need the Hughes extended cuts of TPA and Uncle Buck!!
Another fantastic video! Love cut footage content. Hope to see more.
This is a great movie, I need to buy it, John Candy was so great, lost him too early!
I love this movie so much. John candy was one of those people who when they passed left a void. Absolutely missed that big guy
I’ve actually never gotten around to watching Uncle Buck, after all of these videos it’s time to fix this.
what the hell are you waiting for?! go watch it! RIGHT NOW!!
You are so lucky to have them all in front of you! Although they are great over and over again.
@@derek-64 I didn't wait, after I finished commenting I went onto HBOMax and watched it.
It was as delightful as the review make it out to be.
@@PaceFilmsProductions personally i don't care for streaming services, i have my copy on dvd. But regardless of how you watch it it's still worth it. Excellent movie.
@@derek-64 I like streaming for seeing and/or discovering movies. If I like them then I get the DVD/Blu-ray even if they're available on streaming sites because I want MY own copy to own. My wife made fun of me until a couple of years when her favorite show Dr Who got taken off of netflix.
Thanks for doing this, I saw the movie many times with my daughters and still reminds me how hard it is to communicate well with your kids and earn respect, even in those days. A good laugh always enabled us to talk beyond Uncle Buck and deal with their issues.
Nice job! You put your heart into this one. I really miss John Candy.
He always does!
@@Kevin-tz2lv Nothing wrong with big blockbusters also, I agree. Everybody loves big fun superhero flicks, its just a shame that you can't get one without the other
@@Raiffjr yeah absolutely, they make big money with those and that's fine....but these movie exec's seem so terrified to take risks on anything else...that's why they constantly green light reboots and remakes, they have a prebuilt fan base and tend to make money. Just need to start taking smaller risks on those fun teen stories.
