I bought a 95 off of a guy who decided to pull the tailgate apart and didn’t even leave the screws for me where he took it all apart, but I could not figure out what the defrost plug was going to and I was stressing thinking that something was disconnected in my window motor wasn’t gonna work after replacing it lol. Excellent video! Can't wait for part two....almost every part of my 1985 tailgate window components has been replaced with the exception of the side channels and the slides where the window attaches.....new motorcraft motor, new regulator, new felts, new glass, etc. It still doesn't want to go up and down, as it binds in the middle of its travel. Once it gets past the mid point, up or down, it moves better, but it requires assistance. When the tailgate is up, you can see that when it goes up, it isn't following the path of the channel in the hard top, it is tilted further forward, toward the inside of the vehicle. I have to get in the back of the Bronco and apply outward pressure for the window to close. I am also wondering if the motor could be wired through a relay so that it gets full voltage? Anyhow, great video! Can't wait for more.....

    I really enjoyed your and understood very clear on the 3-part video on the tailgate. However, you didn't show or made mention whether or not you had or could have a problem with the removal of the hinge bolts at the tailgate bottom and should it be sprayed with JB penetrating catalyst and how long are these 3-14mm bolts?

    • @BroncosandPartsGarage
      @BroncosandPartsGarage  2 роки тому

      Thanks! Removing those bolts is usually a big pain due to the corrosion at the bottom of the tailgate. Up in Michigan it’s not an issue because they just tear right out. Due to the rot. I would soak them for a couple days. And then slowly work them back-and-forth until they break free.

  • @ryancnew
    @ryancnew Рік тому +1

    I love the channel. I have a 1996 Bronco with a tailgate that has metal separating at the top right corner. The body shop i took it to (Maaco) is not comfortable welding it and repainting; they say they don’t have the equipment to do it. This was a California Bronco for most of its life, so everything else on the tailgate is fine - I’ve replaced all the internals using your guidance and parts supplier referrals. I found a replacement tailgate that will cost $800, which is more than I believe the weld should cost. As well, the final look of a welded repair is probably fine relative to the value the new door brings. How do I you suggest I could guide the body shop on how to weld it properly? Or is there a better way to get this done, such as metal shop or something?

    • @BroncosandPartsGarage
      @BroncosandPartsGarage  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching!! I’m not a welder unfortunately. If the tg is splitting, especially on the passenger side, welding it may not be a long term solution. What cause it to crack will just move to a new location. Are you using a spare tire mount?

    What model Bronco is that, and what regulator is that? I'm trying to replace the tailgate regulator in my 1988 bronco.

      It’s a 1996. All the links are in video description. Or call Jeff’s Bronco Graveyard. I also sell used regulators. If yours is rusty they can be cleaned. A little 3m pad and wd40

      @@BroncosandPartsGarage I'll try WD40, but when I push the button on my dashboard to roll the window up and down, I don't even hear anything, so I'm not completely sure if it's a rusty regulator, but I'll try before buying a new one. thanks for the suggestion!

    Hi. My window is stuck in the down position. The female plug for the motor is below the glass and I cant reach it. Any suggestions to get the window rolled up without access to the female connector for the window motor?

    • @BroncosandPartsGarage
      @BroncosandPartsGarage  10 місяців тому

      You could simply remove the motor, have someone hold the glass in the upright position and reinstall a new motor. It’s very simple. 3 screws. The plug should be u set the speaker hold though.

      @BroncosandPartsGarage Thank you. Only problem I have is that the motor is below the glass and I dont have access to it. If I remove the 11 mm bolts, would I be able to slide the glass out?

    Notice how the tailgate latch release (the handle) sticks out. Is there any way to fix this? Timestamp at 2:55

      Not really. Both of my 96 broncos have that as well. If it lays flat, you really cannot get your fingers behind it when your inspection plate and carpet panel are in place….

      Check out the harness between the tailgate and the body of the truck. A lot of times that wears out and you get the green death in the wiring.

      There is no solenoid in the TG. It’s a key operated switch attached to the lock cylinder.

    This video is quite useless for folks if the window motor is non op, and the window is stuck down? How do you disconnect the window from the track, especially on the driver side (harness is in the way). And how do you get to the fourth bolt in that holds the window regulator to gate?

    • @BroncosandPartsGarage
      @BroncosandPartsGarage  Рік тому

      Thanks for the inquiry. I’ve yet to see a completely burned up motor. That said, the glass tracks can still be unbolted from the outside of the tailgate. And the glass will have some wiggle room due to the ability to bend the regulator arms a bit. Remove the two top seals, remove glass from regulator and then use a step drill to drill thru regulator plate to access removal bolts. Then email me for a used regulator. Where there is will, there is a way. Or break glass and replace for $100
