finally a tailgate video that matches the thumbnail and title!! Thank you!
We avoid the fluff, go straight from A to B.
The videos keep getting better and better! I feel like I'm taking an official tech class on Bronco restoration!
Excellent job!
Thanks. Your too kind. Trying our best.
Wow! Thanks for sharing such a detailed how to video.
You are helping so many us who love these trucks stay on the road!
Doing my best. Having fun!!
Hey man, thank you for making these videos. I gotta be fair that I just got my butt kicked trying to put the wiring back in this tailgate. I didnt notice where exactly I should anchor the wires in your video. Where exactly should I lock the motor wire harness to? There are holes in the tailgate i can zip tie the wires but Im not sure if it should be inside of the window or outside. If I put it in the wrong place, the window might snag it and unplug it. I might send you an email on this one for some more guidance. Time for a drink…
They mount on plus on the inside wall
This is the best help video!! I'm working on my 78 restoration and replacing my rusted out tailgate. Sending much love. 💕
Thanks! There are all 3 parts to the video!!
Thanks for indexing each step!! Best video on the tube!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks again. I fixed my tailgate after all these years. Appreciate the video.
Glad it helped!!
I have a problem whit my window on my ford bronco 1987. My window stop. Working and my motor is good My switch as well but I don’t have power from that harnes that go to that conector to that motor and I put other harnes and still nothing
Awesome instructions!
Thanks!
I really appreciate the help you guys do a great job
Thank you
Your videos very informative as to the step by step. Thank you!!
You're very welcome!
I wish I had this video 6 months ago!
It’s here now. Lol. I saw your video. You got it done!!!
Video idea: re-vacuuming the engine. Installing all new vacuum components and lines. Removing the unnecessary stuff.
sound like a good video. probably the first of the year!
This will sure come in handy when I have to replace my old rusty one
It’s pretty simple with the correct tools and components.
You should add your Bronco's year and trim to the description. Thanks for the videos!
Thanks for watching. All of the tailgates from 78 on up are ALMOST identical.
Very detailed & informative ! Thanks Chris !
Thank you. I had help.
Thank God for you guys
No problem. I Had great help.
Good info and tutorial. 👍
Thank you !
Nice detail. Good job.
Thanks B-Rad. Especially coming from the Badassery Factory !!!
I really like fluid film for corrosion protection. It does get messy after awhile, but that’s a good excuse to get into vehicle and clean things up before reapplying. Rubber undercoating has always caused worse corrosion in my experience, because moisture will get trapped between it and the metal. And because it’s flexible, it just lets the rust move underneath it. However, on new CLEAN dry metal, it’s probably okay. Less chance of trapping moisture. I’d still put some oil on top of it to displace future moisture. Phosphoric acid is pretty good for converting rust, turns it into a form of parkerizing. Very effective if oiled.
We had the panel very warm to touch when it was applied. Then slowly brought it to room temp. I think she’ll last a while. Fingers crossed!!
Great detailed video. Next we want to see some Broncos in action videos. Lol you'll have to come with us. We'll show you how it's done....
I’m in. I have a few disposables I wanna jump before I part ‘em out!!!
Thanks!
No problem!
Very good video. This all looks pretty straightforward with the glass out. Can this even be done with the glass in the tailgate?
Not safely
Awesome video content guys. Was wondering if it’s possible to replace the rear tailgate felts and latch without removing the glass
The seals can be done. Just a bit harder to do. For the metal panel You’ll need to make a paper or cardboard template and measure twice. Drill once!!! Or have a tint shop just make one out of vinyl wrap. We sell the metal panels. Used.
At 29 min youre explaining the wiring harness. My harness does not have the short ground wire. Where does it terminate on each end so i can add one. Thanks.
There is a short ground wire that actually terminates inside your tail light housing.
these videos are indeed awesome!! what part do I watch to troubleshoot the tailgate key /lock switch to lower the window with that key/lock?
I would watch the first video and use a battery to bypass the switch to verify if motor works. Then I’d check for exposed wired between the tailgate and body (where harness goes from tailgate into driv rear tailight.
totally awesome video, I am actually going to attempt this myself. The detail and pro tips are great. Also you mentioned in the first videos you have items for sale? Where to we find what is available?
Thank you. Just shoot me an email. It’s in the video description and let me know what you need. I don’t have a website because I’m not a business it’s just a hobby but I do have a 3000 square-foot warehouse full of OBS parts.
A good product to use on the seam where the outer skin folds over to the inner of the lower tailgate is brushable seam sealer. Ive used it for years with great results.
I agree. Either seal sealer or some Bedliner. We sealed the inside up reeeeeeal hood with undercoating. In a warm garage. Let it “seep” for 24 hours.
My torsion bar is snapped off at the bent end inside the tailgate.
Do I have to pull the tailgate off the bronco and gut the inner components to replace the rod?
Great videos.
Thank You
Yes
Make sure the drains are open on the bottom or water sits in there, that's what causes rust
Good point. When we sealed the inside- we left the holes open
Hello Chris, this is a very helpful series on how to rebuild a bronco tailgate. I have a 1996 Bronco XL and my tailgate latch on the passenger side is not latching when it hits the striker on the body of the bronco. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix the latch so they click into place and hold until i pull on the handle. The driver's side latch works just fine so I am confident it is the latch itself. If no ideas on how to repair do you sell the passenger side tailgate latch or know where I can purchase a used/new one? Thanks - Jason Dye
Thanks. For starters clean and lubricate the latches. Make sure the striker bushing is still there. If that doesn’t help, remove inspection plate per my video and maybe part 2 we talk about latch linkage. It can be purchased at Jeffs bronco graveyard.
Great video! I have a problem with my tailgate window where it will go up fine about 3/4 of the way and then gets stuck. The motor still turns but it sounds almost like the motor teeth stop meshing with the regulator teeth once it gets to that 3/4 point. Any ideas or suggestions?
There are some oval shaped plastic pieces in the gearbox, over time they grind themselves into cottage cheese. They are buffers to save the motor, but eventually they give out inside the gearbox. Some guys replace them with ball bearings or just replace the motor. More than likely you have resistance coming from your regulator and corrosion as well as the white pivoting squares that slide in your regulator track.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage Hello and thanks for the reply. I did check the motor and the plastic bearings inside the motor and everything is good inside. The motor was remanufactured by ford and has very little use. Also checked the white pivoting squares in the track and they are fine too. Cleaned the tracks out as well. I did run the window up and down with the tailgate down and watched the regulator and it seems to get just slightly out of plum with the motor teeth at that 3/4 way point. The gear on the regulator moves slightly upward and just enough to stop meshing with the motor teeth. Would you say it's time for a new regulator?
Will the harness you sell on graveyard for 80-86 bronco work on my 87? It seems like I have one half of the wire but the part that actually goes on the window while it goes up and down is broken will that be the harness I need?
They don’t sell a tailgate harnesss. Email me a pic.
Hey Chris, great video!
Question, I have to really pull on my tailgate latch on order to get it to open. Where should I start looking to try and fix this?
Is your chrome handle bent up or flat in the tailgate?
@@BroncosandPartsGarage it's definitely bent up. I'm sure it's gotten worse when I've forgotten to lift up over the latch when unloading stuff from the back.
@mattdworaczyk1884 there is a rod and a small lever that is part of the latch mechanism. Jeff Bronco Graveyard sells the entire assembly pretty inexpensively. When installed properly, the handle should be flat. It’s because people have tried to open the tailgate with the glass possibly not all the way down, and they bend that mechanism.
I’m having trouble with my tailgate bronco I replaced everything but the problem is I’m not getting power from my key or my window switch inside my fuses good I’m getting power at the fuse box the only time my window will go up and down as if I hook the 12 V battery up to it so I know from that point everything is good what are your recommendations
Unplug the tailgate harness from under the center of the vehicle right behind the bumper. It’s a 4 prong plug. The wires that power the tg are diagonal to one another. (We cover it in the video). That way you can test your harness at the gate and eliminate a few things. Switches go bad. Both of them. Test the harness first.
Do you sell complete wiring harness for both windows and under dash for 88 Bronco?
Trying to change from manual to electric windows.
I have the harness for a fifth generation bronco.
Great video as always! When I try to fix my key switch I have to deal with another issue.. About a third of the way down the window shifts sideways a bit. I think it's one of the slides or maybe the slide track is bent somewhere. Just curious, what was the total cost of the tailgate buying all new parts?
Jeff’s Bronco Graveyard allows you to purchase individual parts as well as an entire rebuild kit. The vertical glass tracks would not be bent, but you can replace the felt internals, as well as the slides and the slide tracks independently. Click on the title of the video to see the description and you can scroll down to get links for all the parts as well as the web address for Jeff’s bronco graveyard. We could not of done this without their parts !!!
I have seen the sliders rot out.
@bradleygt302 usually it’s the glass slides and tracks. Although the vertical glass tracks rot at the mounting points. If you look at Broncos and Parts Garage on FB we made a video removing window motor and the regulator did NOT snap shut. Lol. Corrosion and time. Refurbish your regulator or buy a new one if it’s sticking.
Do you have the rear window key switch assembly for an 89? Having hell trying to find one.
Yes. Email me. Its in description.
Who makes the cordless ratchet you're using. I need one of those!
Believe it or not, Harbor Freight. It was discontinued and now part of their hurcules line.
My tailgate latches are frozen in the downward position any recommendations?
Remove the metal inspection plate reach in and grab both of the rods and pull them inward
I noticed you don't use loctite, grease, or wd40. If we're not buying all new parts what would be your suggestion for some of these mechanisms to get them more functional?
We do recommend silicone spray in the videos. I’m not a fan of grease or anything that will attract and gold dust and dirt. Considering the vacuum these vehicles create as they drive down the road there is too much debris that gets pulled into the tailgate. Your best bet would be to clean all the sliding contact surfaces as best you can. And perhaps use some lightweight grease on the regulator slides. The regulator arms need to be kept clean and rust free. Once corrosion sets in, the resistance can overpower the clock spring on the back of the regulator rendering it useless to help lift glass up.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage thank you! I'm sure you'll be seeing my comments/questions on all your videos soon. I just picked up a 1994 XLT 5L
I bought a new key cylinder but when I turn the key it the paddle does not travel far enough to touch the buttons. Even sometime the I can turn the key but the paddle remains stationary. Solutions?
There is no “new” aftermarket lock avail. Might be ur issue
91 bronco, can’t get the spare tire gate to open. Any suggestions?
Lubrication and patience. If the handle or linkage is bent, use pliers or screw driver to pry catch apart.
where can you find the tailgate key switch?
Left side of tailgate 😂 I sell them. Email in video description.
Does the Latch Control Rod connect to the handle?
Yes
Hey Chris I like to get back to you if you ever read my message about the fuel lines going from the tank to the filter and the interior parts going to the hardtop and a hardware please let me know
Hello. Not sure what your asking me? I’ll help as best I can though
I read your text I will order the fuel lines from the Bronco store you mentioned what I'm talking about is I replace the hardware on the hardtop am missing the moldings that go on the inside of the hardtop after you put the hardware on also need the back rug tan if possible I have a 93 Ford Bronco XLT 5.8
Hi guys, maybe you can help me my window will not come down motor is not good. Do I have to take the motor out to lower the window or can I lower the window with the motor in?
Can you access the regulator arms??
Yes, but they’re stuck up position. The motor does not engage with the gears. Somebody must’ve messed with it before. I don’t know how to get the window down to open it the tailgate and take out the glass to put a new motor in it or fix it.
Why didn't you use cavity wax in the panel?
Good question. There were many options. We chose something that would dry and not remain tacky or attract dirt and debris. That doesn’t mean after assembly, when the glass is up, and the inspection plate is off, you couldn’t still spray it with another compound.
My tailgate window switch is bad. Any idea where I can find a replacement?
What year? Dash switch or TG internal?
@@BroncosandPartsGarage 1987 and it’s the tail gate internal.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage Any ideas? I've been looking and can't seem to find anything for the Tailgate switch on an 87 bronco. At this point you're my last hope 😄
Still hoping for that dash video.
Tough one to film. But we’re on it 😁
do you sell parts via a website URL or only via Facebook/IG?
Hit me up via email (in video description). Let me know year make model and color of part
what's a new shell run cost wise
I give them away in Detroit Michigan. They’re hard to sell because they don’t go bad. But you shouldn’t pay more than $100 anywhere.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage mines rotten at the bottom unfortunatley and I was trying to source one
Hello, where did you get the new tailgate from?
There are links in the video description for all of the parts. Jeffs Bronco Graveyard
Thank you.
Por-15 !
That was high on our list, but that adheres to rusted metal better than the primer that comes on these tailgates from the factory. And it’s unknown how well it would seal those tiny little seams. We will be using raptor liner type product around the outer edge of the tailgate seal to make sure no water gets in the seam. Thanks for the comment. Please subscribe !
can I just buy a tailgait already assemble
Yes. $1050 plus shipping
Do you still have tailgate wire harness for sell?
I’ll have some on 12/9
Awesome! Let me know when they are available
Did you get any of them in?
I been hospitalized. I’ll check this week
10/4. Get better soon!
Guys thank you so much from Adelaide South Australia 🇦🇺, please do you guys have instagram or WhatsApp? I need some help to customise a 67-72 Bumpside Bronco , to have a electronic rear glass tailgate , I also need to buy a decent bronco tailgate and I canopy topper! Thank you so much for this video this mind wrecking but the videos are very well explained!
Jeffs Bronco Graveyard in Michigan should have tailgate.
@@BroncosandPartsGarage ok I already bought parts from him . Thank you
