- Swapping out the flush grease fittings on a Harbor Freight backhoe trencher with Zerk fittings.
The stock flush fittings can be challenging to grease. Some users report success with a grease injector needle, but this approach didn't work well for me. The downside of this swap is the Zerk fittings are more easily broken off than the flush fittings, but for me the convenience factor outweighed this con.

Excellent!
Nice job SB! I haven't had any problems using the "grease injector needle" on mine but I'm sure there are others out there who have and will find this very useful. It's been raining every day here so I haven't been able to do any digging. Hope to very soon.
Thank-you for the post.
You're welcome
I am glad to see you had success on changing the zerks. I have always wanted to change mine but wasn't sure how to disassemble the old ones. After watching how easy it is. I will be changing them. I Noticed you installed a thumb since your last backhoe video. It looks nice. How about doing a video on it?
Didn't take any footage when installing the thumb, but I could do a post-install review I suppose. Thanks for watching.
I just picked up a slightly used HF trencher that has these flat zerks. They are not threaded at all huh? I guess they shrunk them in. Thanks for the video, helped a lot.
Nope, no threads. Glad the video was helpful - thanks for watching.
Hello, you replaced a pump on harbor freight trencher, where did you buy the pump
Did you have a go at the fittings 'hiding' inside the main boom collar? As with many others, I broke my off and need to replace them but am dreading the job.
I also broke them off. : ) I drilled the access hole to them bigger for better access and installed new zerks. Wasn't too terrible of a job.
Did your trencher come with the thumb? I'm debating on getting one of these HF trenchers. A thumb would be great but I haven't seen anyone else with one.
The thumb was an add on: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0732SFZQ4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. We use the thumb a lot when pulling out invasive bushes/small trees. Would recommend.
