I loved this game as a kid, lot of memories. A few things worth note, like how the one assault rifle had a grenade launcher, most guns had a secondary fire in it. For example, shotgun hosts would be able to do a double barrel fire, like Half-Life. The multiplayer was fun and had bot support. It would have been funny to have civvie show it and the secret locations to play special characters on certain maps. One map had Richardson naked except for her towel, and she had a towel as a weapon that she would whip rat-tail style as a one hit, another map had the chef who would throw the plates like saucers. Speaking of the chef, on the level where you use him to poison the guards, you can actually cook the soup without the rat poison. The cutscene plays out the same, so chef (Raimi) will still do his serial killer laugh and then stop to try and hide even though he only cooked soup. The guards will comment on how it tastes bland. Since the game has to move on, when you re-enter the area they will be lined up for seconds.

Strictness with M rated games sticks with me. I tried out Mass Effect, but got stopped shortly after leaving the Citadel because my parents didn’t like the gunfire. @@sean8102 Last time I tried (and is still listed on the Dolphin Wiki page for this game as a known problem), Geist had issues with random graphical opcode errors that would bring up an in-emulator error dialogue and crash the game. They didn't seem so consistent that the game would be unplayable start-to-finish, but certainly makes it more of a pain to play. Though, there's a report on that aforementioned wiki page that mentions they encountered no errors at all, and it doesn't _seem_ like Civvie did in the process of recording this. Perhaps it depends on your computer setup, or there's some magic combination of settings that gets Geist to be stable, or the Dolphin team just fixed shit unknowingly in the time since I tried playing it. And for my personal experience, when I tried playing this Dolphin had an issue at the time where _any_ error that would bring up a pop-up dialogue would crash the emulator entirely if you were in fullscreen, so that could've been my issue; it only says that it "eventually" causes a crash if you keep playing.
I've been considering emulation to get around some of the difficulties that come with aging original hardware and the increasing scarcity of games. The Gamecube's library has always kind of felt like the output of a really obscure band that, for the most part, is entirely justified in being forgotten by the public but that did put out one absolute banger of an album where every single track did groundbreaking things you can still find traces of in the genre to this day.
Even though I owned a PS2 at the time I really do have a lot of respect for the GameCube. Some of the games on the system still look pretty good thanks to it being more powerful than the PS2. Really Nintendo being Nintendo and not including a DVD drive probably hurt the console as that was a big selling point of the PS2.

@@magmos6346 No, there's not. I really don't like the idea that just because a game is old, you can spoil it; Because everyone has played every old game in existence? Completely irrational. And before anyone tells me that I didn't play it; I did. I've beaten it a few times, love its shooting due to a mouse injector patch, so I play against bots in multiplayer semi-frequently.
Some fun facts about the multiplayer - The main Deathmatch type mode is unique in that you spawn as ghosts that must then find an npc host to possess, and of course gain points by killing other possessed hosts. Most of the maps have a silly hidden host in them, ranging from those little imp things, to the main villain in his wheelchair (which shoots rockets), and most memorably post-shower Anna who whips people to death with a bath towel. - The other mode I remember is where you have a team of ghosts vs a team of ghost hunters. The ghosts do their usual possession stuff of taking over npc hosts or environmental hazards, but can also briefly possess other players to mess with their aim or slowly drag them towards a hazard, but both players basically share control at the same time and can disrupt eachother's efforts. Ghost Hunters meanwhile have automatic weapons and those ghost grenades from the end of the game, and have to deal with the fact that the Ghosts are kind of hard to see and transparent. Been nearly two decades since I played it, so exact details are a bit hazy. Was pleasantly surprised to see Civvie do a video on this game. I have somewhat fond memories of this unique and jank experience
Never in my life did i think Civvie would be making a video on the most inexpliacable gamecube game i own. I literally dont know where i got this thing from, but i’ve always had a strange love for it, even though i’ve never made it very far
I vividly remember being super hyped about this game as a child, I think it was the second game i ever preordered after Metroid Prime 2 (Still have the shirt). I also remember 100%'ing this game so hard.
I did NOT expect a video on Geist of all console FPSes! I absolutely loved this as a kid, played it so much! The multiplayer was also a blast for a kid with limited online gaming options.
Having the balls to throw the "If you dont want me to do it my way, give me a high way" argument at Nintendo, Civvie has reminded me why I subbed after his initial completion of Apocalypse Weekend. Blessed be he who uses good business tactics and solid points.
Game Cube honestly had some underrated games. My two favorites are the Harvest Moon Magical Melody and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, thus appealing to both of the opposing sides of my psyche. It also had the most oddball of the Legacy of Kain releases, Blood Omen 2. I also have a copy of Beyond Good and Evil for it. It was an old little platform that had an odder variety of contrasting titles that never really found its stride before the next gen happened.

Civvie is the greatest entertainer of all time. No joke.
Naw, totally reasonable

''This can't be good for me but I feel great.''
The fact that I was just thinking about this game today and how much fun I had with it but couldn't remember the name and then here comes Civvie just smacking me in the face with nostalgia is... creepily coincidental. I'm... pretty sure Civvie didn't possess me
Civvie has a talent in uploading a video the exact moment you start wondering when would civvie upload a new video again
Civvie, you're one of the best on youtube. Your videos are so consistently great and I always look forward to them.
That was uncomfortably sincere for me.

haha- you're gay for Civvie.
@@swanclipper Oh yeah, totally. But why aren't you gay for Civvie? What's wrong with you?
Relax man, we all love Civvie!
Man, Civvie, and Mandalore both introduced me to a sub-genre I didn't even know existed until now; Poltergeist.
An untapped genre.
First game I can think of that did something like it was the cult classic 'The Haunting (Starring Poulterguy) on the Genesis from EA.'
There was also a somewhat similar game reviewed by Accursed Farms (Ross Scott, of the Freeman's Mind fame), called "Messiah", though that was a christmas special.
@@Gatorade69 IDK when it came out but Avenging Spirit on the Game Boy has a mechanic where you can possess most enemies, and your energy drains quickly when you're outside a body. It's a pretty fun game.
@@Gatorade69Try the game "Messiah" on GOG.
Speaking of old games with possession mechanics, anyone remember Messiah from Shiny Entertainment? That was one freaky ride.
Yeah I remember Acursed Farms review of that. Strange game.
@@abloogywoogywoo It was a wild time in gaming for sure.
Wacky ideas got published all the time.
oof
The Messiah demo off a PCGamer CD was the first thing i played after getting my new Voodoo 3 card
I remember that game! I'm sure whoever made the sounds effects for it has a mom who is very proud of them!
Everybody has a game that civvie covers that was an enormous part of their childhood. Geist, for me, is that game. Let the memories flow
Fun fact a modded Wii U is the best way to play HD GameCube games on native hardware. The Wii U is built on the same CPU architecture as the GameCube so the bootloader Nintendont allows the Wii U to play GameCube imagine files off of an SD card without emulation. It's what I use to play any GameCube games these days and it works great since you don't need a memory card or the actual game disk.
HAHAHA The scared guy with the blood filled sink made a RTCW German scream. Love those stock sounds!
If only Civvie used the flamethrower weapon at least once for Geist.
And the freed soldier made a hurt Doomguy noise lol
This game actually looks really interesting! I hope Night Dive out someone else can give this a remaster. I'd love to play it
I WAS MOMENTS AWAY FROM COMPLETELY EMBRACING THE VOID BUT YET AGAIN CIVI KEEPING ME HERE WITH ONE MORE VIDEO

I feel like I played this on an actual gamecube back in my wilder years, but I couldn't figure out what the crap to do to spook the chef. Kept rattling him, but not quite 'scaring'. Guess plates just flying _near_ you aren't "scary"... I mean, who can really feel fear without pieces of jagged ceramic sticking out of your face? And then be mysteriously okay to serve poisoned stew to soldiers right after.
Logic aside, I remember it being a cool game. Thanks for lettin' us all see the rest, Civvie! =D
Woah, Civvie playing a console exclusive is a rare treat.
I hope he does a video on Killer7 at some point
Perfect Dark any year now...
Timesplitters anyone?
killer7 isn't a console exclusive anymore.
But yeah, can agree on Perfect Dark and Timesplitters: Future Perfect (what with TS2 being able to get accessed on Homefront: The Revolution, of all places).
@@agabrieldI would love for the Timesplitters game to get the Night dive treatment. Who owns the IP ?
When I was in junior high school I borrowed this game from a friend, then moved schools and never saw that friend again. James, if you're out there, I'm sorry. And thank you for explaining Guilty Gear Bridget to me because I didn't get it then but I get it now.
Go Trans Icon Go!
I played this game as a kid and for the longest time I thought I hallucinated it because nobody talked about it or ever mentioned it. I'm glad I somehow came back to the timeline where this game exist.
This was my favorite one of your recent videos. Well done, man.
One of my favorites, the possesion mechanic was so well made, also I remember getting together with some school friends when i was a kid and playing split screen of this, Metroid Prime 2, and TimeSplitters 2 GOD WE LOVED TIMESPLITTERS 2!,
Agreed! Civvie, Pro Timesplitters when?
yeah TimeSplitters when Civvie?
The scar could be accidental. I have a similar one on my eyebrow I got by running into the corner of a standing cabinet in the dark. That's when I learned a 45-degree angle can cut.
I love how even the demon inside cancer mouse doesn't want to hear about whatever cancer mouse was about to say.
As a person who worked upscale retail liquor in a faux new money part of the suburbs and having to deal with allocated burboun collectors, the Buffalo Trace as a pity joke hit me so hard. Pure catharsis. Thank you, Civvie
This game looks like it took a huge dose of inspiration from,
_YOU CALL YOURSELF THE MESSIAH?_
Which is neat! And super neat that Ross made a review of that game, so if you watch that one, and then this, Halloween is saved! \o/
Yowly Boi!
Was thinking that with all the possessions, but no machines though.
Civvie you just brought back so many memories of playing this with my dad as a kid. I actually still have that old GameCube and even have the old disc alongside a few other games , maybe i'll plug it back in and go down memory lane a bit.
Wow, most of the sound effects are from the iconic "General 6000" sfx collection. Love it!
24:40 Oof, that attack is fair but mean. Projectiles are coming at you just fast enough that you get to process the shot as it collides with your face. Major props to Civvie for dodging those as long as he did, I can tell I wouldn’t have managed for nearly as long.
The eldritch abomination that lives in my pillow took time off from tormenting me so we could both watch Civvie! Thank you Civvie! Also jesus christ this makes me feel old.
Calling on Jesus helps keep the eldritch abominations at bay
Yes! Someone remembers this game! I remember renting this game twice from Blockbuster as a kid and I always got stuck on the motorcycle chase turret section. Wonderful game for what I played.
Oh my gosh. Thank you soooooooooo much for legit validating my childhood. For the longest time i thought this was a fever dream i had as a kid. I'm so glad that this game is a real thing. You're the best civvie❤❤❤❤
God this is a blast from the past i remember my dad buying me this game and me having a really hard time beating it but having a ton of fun! I like cancer mouse and cant wait to see where his story goes!!!!
this is the last damn thing i expected on this channel. after everything that has happened on this channel, THIS is what i was not ready for
27:46 My God, that throwback, I can feel it in my bones.
The Gamecube's library has always kind of felt like the output of a really obscure band that, for the most part, is entirely justified in being forgotten by the public but that did put out one absolute banger of an album where every single track did groundbreaking things you can still find traces of in the genre to this day.
Yep. See also: Eternal Darkness.
@@Gatorade69aye but it does stuff even the switch has trouble with. incredible little box
THIS GAME ! I've been looking for the name of this game for more than 15 years, after I saw the jacket while roaming around in a market as I was a kid !
You healed an mental scar in my brain, I cannot thank you enough for that !
Simultaneously surprised and not that it took this long. People mention Geist all the time for the whole Nintendo published M rated game thing; Civvie is the first person I’ve seen talk about the actual game.
It’s always nice to see cancer mouse, even better when he’s possessed. Happy Halloween everyone. 🎃
Thanks Civvie. You always keep the giggles and smiles going. Give my love to Katie and Cancer Mouse
Civvie, you must have known how bad my week has been. This upload is highly appreciated
Amen. Hope next week is better for you :) and Happy Haloweeen!
@@sean8102 much appreciated my friend. Happy Halloween
This video made me laugh more at Repossessed references than I laugh at the actual movie
That looks like a super creative game. Someone had fun designing that one. Reminds me of Messiah, which is probably going to appear on this channel one day.
Bruh, I cannot believe Civvie made a Geist video before me ... that shit was my favorite $9 BlockBuster Video game
the multiplayer was lit, unlocking all the secret characters were so cool, I loved getting instant kills playing as a chef that throws plates
This was my favorite game as a kid and I didn’t think anyone remembered or even liked this game. We love you civvie
I'm glad to see this game is as good as I remember it from my childhood.
You know it's a good game, when the dog lives by the end.
Spoilers dude
don't read comments before watching the video, dude. rookie mistake.@@MossB87
@@MossB87 Dude, there's a statuette of limitations on this thing. This game is old enough to freaking vote.
And don't forget the lack of a blatant sequel hook, unlike its contemporary Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.
Some of your best work yet! amazing vid
I love this game. It's Resident Evil in first person. The same kind of puzzles and slow methodical progression, with a horror aesthetic.
So, Gigi's ghost form is colored green. Huh...
_"Where did she learn to be a ghost?"_
Also, Cancer Mouse is back! Yeah, radiation!
Some fun facts about the multiplayer
- The main Deathmatch type mode is unique in that you spawn as ghosts that must then find an npc host to possess, and of course gain points by killing other possessed hosts.
Civvie, you are a comedic genius. Thank you for sharing your craft with the world (also thank you to Katie for her amazing edits and additions).
oh crap I love that monitor "reflection" in the intro where it's just the character carefully positioned on the other side of the monitor lol
Ah Insomnia, the disorder that keeps on giving me Civvie videos.
I love how creative the edits are becoming.
props to civvie for his exquisite selection of oddball "shooters".
I just woke up from a house party, and I'm so glad this is the first video I saw. I love your video
I primarily remember this game as "the one where you posess dog food"
I remember having tons of fun with this.
Geist has such an incredible premise. It is quite unique.
It's Haunting starring Polterguy meets Messiah. Great game, still got my copy.
"Mom, can we get FEAR"?
"No dear. We have FEAR at home."
*FEAR at home*
I remember buying this game off a whim and ended up really liking it.
Civvie: Makes a new video.
Me: This can't be good for me but I feel great.
no way civvie is playing one my childhood games

"Can't leave without my buddy superfly" got me so good 😂
