Bernard didn't slap that much. But boy did he know how to groove. I just love this solo. Loads of string bends and just one or two notes that hit it down mean - a great, great player. What a bass sound - doesn't try to copy Bernard but does his own thing in the same spirit - truly awesome.

Nile Rodgers is a freakin genius producer arranger everything he touches turns to gold(or multi platinum) whether it's Duran's first #1s or madonna's #1s or Bowie's #1 or Diana Ross's or Sheena Easton's.

Bernard Edwards, none can touch Bernard Edwards
Simple as that, no one can touch Nile Rodgers too, his unique style wont be covered.
    Both inventend modern music.

Love Jerry Barnes... As some of you may know (or may not!) he and his sister Katreese were the founding members of Funk band JUICY who had some great hits on their own (Sugar Free was one of them). Their 1st LP was produced by Deodato...

Why has no one mentioned LARRY GRAHAM !!! but forget the three o dem, J B, M M & L G, there were thousands and thousands of iconic soul and Funk records made the 60/70 & 80s, including all those early 70s 45s, all with the the base as the main part and most soul inspiring part of the song, so what I want to know is, where did so many people get all those groovy baselines from ? How did they think them up in their heads. Amazing .

Why are people downing Jerry Barnes. True, he is no Bernard, but man, you have to admit that he definately holds his own. I play bass, and to me, Jerry has the right funk for this type of music. He is the perfect replacement for the "Great Bernard Edwards". Just listen to how Jerry is thumpin and pickin that bass. You can almost hear that guitar beggin for mercy, and at the same time lovin how it is being played. Jerry is a very good fit for CHIC. My opinion, like it or not.
