Just do the whole album. Spend a day or two and do the whole album in order. We will watch the whole thing
I concur. If you film it. We will watch
Insert Morgan Freeman meme: “He’s right you know”
The dream
...and since he will have already heard the songs before he can add in an analysis of the lyrics which are a powerful force on their own. I'm in. Make it happen!!!!
I 6th this notion
This song has 20 years worth of riffs.
And same amount of cowbells too😉
I only expected 13 years worth, so this was a pleasant surprise!
25 years. Main riff was written when they were writing Ænima.
Holy shit. Ænima is 25 years old.
Don't forget about Opiate, some of these riffs date back to that first EP from 1992. Yes, 29 years ago! Still a great album.
Yeah I still remember Opiate! That was the one I traded for my first copy of Siamese Dream ;D
They won a grammy for best metal performance for this track.
Grammy's are meaningless.
@@JTNugget Still kinda neat
Did they really?? Wow I had no idea
It won best rock track....not metal.
@@jasonquinn4516 Nah mate 7empest won best metal performance 2020
Everyone in the band is saying "hold my beer" at the same time lol
😁😅🤣👍
😂 🍻
@Twilight Coda lol I can see him doing it.
37 minute for 7empest. Seems about right. LET'S GO!
I don't know why he made it so short, too.
Mr. Jones stepped out front and KILLED it on 7empest. He is known as a very subtle, disciplined guitarist who doesn't show off, isn't too busy shredding and doing the usual pompous guitarist nonsense. This is true talent. Absolutely beautiful musicianship here.
Beautifully said
One of the only guitar "solos" I remember hearing in a Tool song, and the few times it happens, it fits so perfectly into the musical narrative. It's the next obvious step in the song.
7empest is definitely Jones' masterpiece. His Mona Lisa.
believe i read somewhere he has been writing this since 10,000 days, perfecting it along the way. Maynard even stepped back lyrically to showcase the songs instrumental. My favourite song on the album.
Tool's album Fear Inoculum is a modern masterpiece.
💯
Indeed
Yep absolutely incredible
For sure
I agree with you and I wonder what is next for them. Is it possible for them to top this album? But then again, its Tool, and to underestimate them is not a wise thing.
When you realize this is 15 minutes of Danny and Adam challenging the entire music world to match their level... Epic
is that what this is? Felt like Tool by the numbers to me.. like the first time in the whole catalog I've got the vibe from them
Agreed
Tool by the numbers is still leagues ahead of anything that tries to emulate them.
Don’t leave Justin out of that equation, his bass carries the whole thing
Colin Burroughs by the numbers? Please let me know another Tool song that is even in the same stratosphere as this song.
Blows my mind that they can pull this off live.
I saw the early attempting to count, then the head shake, as if to say, “fuck, it’s Tool, why bother?”
"ah fuck, here we go again"
he is being modest, but he did mention 21 as one way to count the phrasing. and it is indeed in 21/8 for the most part.
@Danny Carvajal 4 rounds of 5,5,5,6.
@Danny Carvajal I wouldn't know man I'm just a photographer😄.
@Danny Carvajal that all depends on how fast you're counting,had 2 think 4 a sec. didn't you?
You need to do The Grudge soon!
YES!!
YES! the GRUDGE!!!
the grudge is my favorite tool track!
Maybe when Saturn comes round again 🤷🏻♂️
and The Patient as well
Me and my two music buddies had the whole house rigged for music and after a night of old albums, Fear Innoculom dropped at midnight. I think by the time we got to 7empest I was out of breath and almost to tears on the kitchen floor. I had never felt music the way I did this song when it first played. Few moments have actually made me cry, but when Adam hit the peak of that solo I knew that I was hearing my favorite piece of music of all time and busted out a few tears of pure happiness. Gummies may have been involved, Awwwwwright!
What a fabulous experience!
Same, but by myself and on acid
I felt like that for the whole 120 minutes I could watch them live the day I turned 32. Couldn't help it, tears of joy all along.

I first heard this track thru headphones, while in a lounge chair on the deck of a cruise ship, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, at night. It was surreal.
That sounds surreal!

I first heard it on the metro in Moscow Russia as I was trapped there during Covid

This album saved my soul. My wife had been in a horrific accident and was a year into recovering. My son was a mess as a result. Having always been a TOOL fan it lifted me up and pushed me through!! My wife is fully recovered and son is doing well with our second grandchild on the way! This album got me through...❤️
Keep going
That's awesome
This is why real music matters (as opposed to commercial radio dross), it has the power to change lives if people let it.
When this album came out, the excitement level was off the scale. But I when I first heard it, I was left a little confused, like I didn’t know how I felt about it. Forward wind to now, many, many plays later and I am convinced it is not only their greatest album but it’s also one of the very best albums of all time.
7empest is without doubt the crowning achievement in this album. It is utterly, mind bogglingly brilliant and just continues to blow my mind with every listen
It was weird that it didn't just blow me away straight out the gate. But, the more I listened the more I uncovered the mastery of the album as a whole & the songs individually. Truly an astonishing piece of work.
It definitely gets better as it ages. The more I listen to it the more I like it.
@@RCAvhstape there's actually a rather interesting phenomenon tied to survival and psychology that explains why more and more listens of a song makes the track grow on us or get worst if our opinion of it is bad. I can't recall the damn psychology term for it, but I've seen studies about that in university. Interestingly, our brains brush aside the familiar aspects to delve deeper and deeper. It's akin to mapping out a series of sounds, just like you decode the lyrics with your knowledge of language :) Music is a rather odd human phenomenon. And Tool is just, well, masterful at communication on that very deep level of understanding. It syncs with you, resonates with you. The melody talks to the mind in ways language can't decode. I've always been fascinated by tool because of that.
When this album came out I was at my room getting ready for class.
We always had quices at the beginning of class, at the end of semester they amount to a good part of the grade percentaje.
Anyway, I was about to close the browser when this notification pops up that says: "Tool - Fear Inoculum now available", aaaand I lost my shit!
I was like: "Whaat? Was it today? Fuck it all!"
I sat down, opened UA-cam and played the whole goddamn album one song after the other. It was a trip to say the least!
Then the album ended and I was like 30-40 minutes late to class!
I hauled ass to get there, I knew I had missed the quiz, but didn't care, I just heard Tool's newest music, I was thrilled!
Then at the end of the class the teacher was like: "Oh I forgot to have the quiz, so let's do It"
The universe was with me that day. That's the power of Tool.
Blessed is what you are. Sounds like a great karma day. 👍🤘
Deadly
that's what happens when you ride the spiral...
What if teach is a secret fan?
Ayy nice berserk pfp!
The bass string twang is so sick how it carries over the git solo.
"How many riffs does this song have?"
Adam: "Yes!"
Your ears don’t deceive you. The audio engineering and mastering is A+.
It is on another level. Wish more was recorded with this kind of care and detail. Bob Ludwig and Joe Barresi did an amazing job.
Tool is classical music with electricity! What a masterpiece!
Adam talked about this album having a theme of 7. Seven main tracks, a lot of 7 meters ect, i believe thats why they spelled tempest with a 7
7empest is like every tool track rolled into one. The earlier more "forward sounding" stuff is a direct homage to the album Undertow. It sounds a lot like "The Flood" from that album. This is easily one of the strongest Tool tracks of all time.
Greatest track of all time
It's just Flood...not "The Flood"...sorry for being anal...
Flood is probably the very definition of musical expression...
You nailed it with this comment
TOOL ---- D - E - S - C- E - N - D - I - N - G (next please)
This song deserves attention!!!!
And "Invincible"!!
Best eargasm on the album. You know which part I’m talking about too.
@@zachcampbell3229 Yep
If I were only allowed to listen to one Tool song that would be the one..
this has become my favorite song of all time, the way it goes from tranquility to foreboding to anger to hopefullness, all multiple times in a single song is just a wild ride and theres no feeling like listening to this intently
comment because, same. It has to be a timeless piece, truly. And to witness it as it came out is quite a momentous thing :)
This song makes me cry, not because of the content of the song or even the melody or rhythms or anything, but the fact that it's the last Tool song on the new album after such a long and arduous road to get here. It's a symbol to me of a huge part of my life, of how I've aged, how the band has aged, and now time has all passed us by so suddenly and here we are. Music is an amazing thing ya'll!
Try not to cry the next time you are born. Remember.
I just turned 28, passed my own 10 000 days on this earth, and I am grateful I got to see two tool albums released in this short time that had me hooked. I started to listen to them at 15, with my uncle introducing them to me and then some of the songs like Schism and Vicarious in guitar hero games :) 7empest is an instant favorite, and has to be one of the best songs produced in this era. Not a single second of that whole 15 minutes is wasted, each listen makes me realize that we stand on the shoulders of giants. Humbling...anyway, sorry for the rant.
Tool debuted this live here in Australia right before COVID. It was something else. It was straight after Jambi. I had no face let at the end of it.
was there that night! mind blown when the song started
Was that the only time it was played live?
@@brandonhinrichs387 I was in Brisbane, they played it in Sydney one night and then one night in Melbourne. It was also played in NZ apparently.
That was an awesome gig! Ears were already ringing from the night before.
@@freddieg yes, I saw it live in Auckland NZ..... Epic
As a guitarist, I absolutely dig this song more the more I hear it and I’ve heard it a lot now. Just beautiful example of how great guitar doesn’t require a million notes played at breakneck speed. Total Floyd/Sabbath vibe that Adam has mastered.
Here we go again... 👍🤘🤯
You've got to do Disposition/Reflection/Triad. It's seriously one of the best things ever. Also going to suggest you do Funeral/Bastard/Death Of Music from Devin Townsend!
Love your videos, keep up the good work :)
yes/yes/yes please and The Patient.
Yes/yes/yes and yes/yes/yes!!!! These are must-go-together songs like We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions. Long passages of hypnotic music so worthy of Geebz and his analysis. He will love them!
Ocean Machine is my favorite album of all time and those 3 last songs tied together are the best musical experience I've ever had, I would love for him (KeyofGeebz) to decompose it!
Agreed!!! Reflection is the quiet ninja song that's so meditative and beautiful
YEEESSSSS, ONE OF THE BEST!!!
Hearing you breaking down so many different aspects of this song, it makes even more sense that they won a Grammy for this performance.
Billie ellish got 5 of those...it is just a popularity contest m8
Such a good Album, grows on you every listen. Descending, Tempest, Fear Innoc, Culling voices, Invincible and Pnuema all quality!
It's incredible, this album makes me a TOOL fan, best album ever made!!!
I listen to Pneuma every morning with my 2 year old son. He's obsessed with the "Vic Firth live Pneuma" video. He sits with me in bed and watches the entire video from start to finish, with running commentary about the symbals and microphone. He even picks out Maynard walking past in the background and catching his breath behind Danny at the end and excitedly says "Maynard!". Raising him right. 😉
Fun fact: tool records most of their stuff in 1 take. They master their songs after writing them, then head to the studio. They also don't play to a metronome live or in studio, which is why some parts that are the same might be slightly faster or slower if you put them next to each other.
"it was absolutely bitchin'!" Best technical analysis yet, thanks Geebz!
This is the same engineer/producer as 10,000 Days (“Evil” Joe Barriessi) did this album as well. & 21/8 you were correct there are different ways of counting it - But it’s 21 🎶💜🎶
You can hear Danny on the ride in the beginning 5 5 5 6
Q. Adam, how many riffs are you going to play on this number? A. Yes.
:(
Very original!
"That bass tone."
Yep, what else can you say? It just floors you when Justin comes in.
I often listen to this album on long bicycle rides along the shore in the middle of the night.
Reaching the end of 7empst usually means it's time to start the album over again.
Same, listen to it on my mountain bikes rides. Just heaven.
I listen to Tool at the end of long runs. This album in particular has songs that can bring tears to my eyes when I’m emotionally open like that.

I've always said to my friends, you don't listen to a TOOL album; you FEEL a TOOL album!
This album was their cleanest, best mix as of yet of there catalog. So full and dynamic and detailed.
Love how you occasionally refer to sections of the song as "movements" as though it's an orchestral arrangement.
As a non musician, Adam sometimes reminds me of David Gilmour (not comparing the two) in his way of prioritizing the mood and sound of the song when doing solos... some other lead guitarists just go bananas when it's their time to shine.
Tasteful might be the word you're looking for.
Those harmonics on the small second solo raise the undead from the deepest place on Earth. What a perfomance from Adam Jones.
Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends we're so glad you could attend come inside come inside

7empest gives me straight up ‘tubular bells’ vibes!!!
Definitely! Got the same sort of feeling for the composition on 'The Witness'
I can see that.
I absolutely LOVE it when music grabs your ears and introduces your nose to the top of your desk,
I hope I get to see TOOL live again
Me too, easily the best sounding concert I’d been to, even though it was outside and I’ve been to a lot of gigs lol. When it finished I was literally gobsmacked, it was like I just came out of a trip. My friends were all like what the fuck did we just witness. It was insane, words cannot describe

Amongst all the masterpieces Tool has given us, this one tops them all. It has every inch of musicianship that you could ever ask of them. A well deserved grammy for them!
First time I heard this song was when the album came out in 2019, I stayed up all night just waiting for it to come out because I was so excited. We were FINALLY getting a new Tool album after 13 long years, and this song actually brought me to tears with how good it is.
7empest... hands down my favorite from this album, with Descending coming in at a close 2nd!
Love your new intro!
#Imstillhere
Let's go! Anyone else feel this is like the continuing message of The Pot in a metaphysical sense? The same old story of power and control and its failure over and over again...
Two thumbs up for the longest Grammy winning song EVER! Looking forward to the rest of the Tool saga. ( Descending ) 🙏
FYI, the engineer on this was Joe Baressi. Aside from being the engineer on this album, he was also the engineer on their preceding album, 10,000 Days. Just some FYI since you were interested in the changes to the engineering as you noted in the video.
this album is their magnum opus.one of my fav.albums of all time.i mean i love their other albums, but this one is top of tops for me
Amen 🙏
Lateralus is for me. But hey I love them all.
I've been a fan since 97, still, for over a year at least, this album has been my fav
Adam just stepped up to a new level in this album I love it.
Im curious, of all the artists youve been introduced to that you hadnt listened to prior, have any of them become part of your daily listening around the house or driving in the car?
Some reactors with a musical background act like they are doing the bands taxes. Your top notch
This song covers their whole career and then some .
Sooo true
The one constant in the second half of this song is that driving bass riff. And the texture that Adam has with his guitar is great.
I’ve been a fan since 93. This album should be listened to from start to finish in my opinion. I also was lucky enough to finally see them live in 2019 after its release. It was hands down the most well delivered live show I’ve ever seen. The way they all work together is phenomenal. I love Maynard but... Danny, he went hard for this album and did mind blowing things. I’m still not sure they’re human haha!
This song won a Best Metal Performance Grammy
Kind of feels like they went back and revisited some of the sound they created on Opiate. Not that it's a bad thing, but I still love how raw and forceful that first EP feels.
This song quickly became a favorite of mine, and I love to turn people onto it. There are a couple of great songs left in Fear Inoculum, let's do it!

TOOL - The Grudge
Of all the songs on Fear, this one harkens back to old Tool the most. I full on rocked out to this song during Hurricane Sally.... Until I had to evacuate 😂 oh and Adam shreds this song!!
good evening from the netherlands...watch Adam Jones go crazy on this one...
First time I heard this album I had everything set up. I knew it was coming so I headed to the beach took a dive and came back to my towel. Headphones... and pressed play. Revisited Fear Inoculum and then Pneuma came. I was baffled and I must admit I shed some tears, for i think it's maybe the best track i've ever heard in my entire life. Lit some smokes while the album was playing and listening the songs while sinking my fingers on warm sand was pretty unique and when it ended it was time to get back to reality and go for another dive and meditate on the amazing experience i just had.
One thing I find on this album is Adam’s guitar tone cuts through the mix more and is super tight. Like a lot of bass is rolled off and the mids are pushed more or something. All the instruments are well separated from each other. Sounds incredible.
I actually had a bit of a panic attack first time I heard this song. Was sitting at my PC with lights off and headphones on. Once it got about halfway through the solo, my heart started to pound, I started sweating, but it was all in the best possible way
I love how confident you have become on these Tool tracks. Let’s all explore their wonder through our third eye.
You know your stuff, don’t mind the haters.
When he pauses in the lead up to Adam going off and says, not quite a solo, not knowing what's coming next is the guitar solo of all fucking time guitar solos.
Love his reactions.

This song is an absolute beast! They even won a Grammy for this song! Thank you for the video!!
You enlighten music noobs like me with your wisdom. Would be really cool if you could make a video on Planet Caravan from Black Sabbath!

Still here! One of m favorite things about these videos is the facial contortions as your brain devours a holiday meal. It's great to see you listen to these songs, it's as if we get to hear the music again with new ears. Thank you!
I was travelling for Microsoft when the album dropped. I was up at 33,000 ft somewhere over the midwest when the song came on in the set. By this point, I was already in a daze from the tracks previous. This song hit so hard and mixed with looking out the plane window... it will forever be the soundtrack of my "travelling days".
This is the song that hooked me on Tool. It’s been a wild ride since. Only sorry it took me this long
Also, this happens to be my favorite track on the album. It feels like a compilation of all they have done over the years, piled into one tour de force of head smashing.
I like how from about halfway through the video onwards you can see the sun slowly settiing over his head. It's like a visualisation of the musical enlightning he is receiving.
on my very first listen through the album when it came out, 7empest stood out to me as what I thought would be my favorite track. It just felt very "different" with the vocal riffs sounding more classic rock style. A Perfect Circle also released a very 70-80's style single a little while back. I wonder if they both happened around the same time.
The growth of this channel has just been incredible
Also I heard Danny Carrey say that Adam Jones did almost all of this song with 1 take, first take and tbey built the song around it.
I'm surprised Adam's Guitar didn't catch on damn FIRE 🔥🔥🔥
"The engineering on this" - dude they recorded analog on tape for this album. Technicality above so much nowadays :D Folks give out about hearing the tape cuts on the final tracks but man it only adds to the magnificence of this album. Great video will watch many many more, much needed in the community.
My favorite part about this video was seeing this man try to count the time signature and lose count time and time again.
I love watching Geebz getting his mind blown listening to Tool. It's like I'm hearing them for the first time again... Keep going bud!
