    Wow everyone in the comments saying crap like "ugh to much work I'm just going to buy them"
    No shit its work. People like making their own pearls so they dont have all the additives junk that's in premade pearls. If you want to buy them fine but dont complain about it. You wouldn't go onto a video about making homemade pizza and complain saying "omg this is way to much work, I'm just going to buy some frozen pizza" like congrats!! No one gives a shit!

    I loved drinking boba all my life since I was a kid and dedicated a lot of my time to making it at home since I didn't have any stores where I lived. I used to buy all sorts of different pre-made ones from asian groceries & eventually learned about hot water & tapioca starch 3 years ago, which I find way tastier. Plus, I don't have to worry about what is in my tapioca, like plastic or something.
    My new goal is to learn how to perfect the brown sugar tapioca pearls, but I haven't been able to get there. When I tried to add brown sugar to the starch, it became some weird goopy liquid-solid texture. Now I just braise them, but it still isn't perfect. Thanks to your video, I have a new method to try & I think it's gonna be the one!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Ethan!!

    I am confused about what milk tea is. When I get boba at this place in my hometown, I order strawberry milk tea. It tastes really good like fresh strawberries and you can even see a little bit of strawberry seeds at the bottom. But I am in college and now I can't get it :( I want to make it at home but I don't know how, every place seems to make it differently. Most of the places here just use powder flavor and it's gross.

    • @OLLIVEEA369
      @OLLIVEEA369 5 років тому +9

      Rachel it’s just milk, the tea of your choice and then you can flavor it with any strawberry flavoring or fresh strawberries

    • @3thanwong
      @3thanwong  5 років тому +36

      Hi Rachel, milk tea is simply tea with milk. And there is a lot of ways u can do it.
      First of all, the most commonly used tea would be red tea powder. Each places have their own preferred tea powder and produces its own distinctive flavor. Tea powder in Malaysia differs than Thailand, Hong Kong, India, etc.
      So the tea powder act as the based note flavor for the tea flavor.
      Then comes the milk, there is fresh milk (whole milk), evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, etc. Even by using raw unprocessed milk will produce a different end flavor.
      So these two ingredients are the most critical ingredients that determine a decent cup of milk tea.
      Next up, flavored milk tea. Like what u mentioned strawberry milk tea, maybe almond milk tea, sesame milk tea, etc, all these are commercialized products. I believe these are powdered products from manufacturing factory. Hence they tasted unnatural but somehow addictive due to the sugar in it.
      I hope this answers some of your confusion.
      Let me know if there is anymore I could tell u about

    • @3thanwong
      @3thanwong  5 років тому +2

      If it keep melting means it is not cooked enough or not enough of tapioca flour, thats the reason why I reverse the steps, so you cooking it until it stick together without “melting-out”. This way ensure the tapioca flour cooks through.

      Maria D. M I highly advise that you stay away from popping boba, I work at a boba shop and my manager explained to me that corporations use edible plastic to hold the juices/flavours for the popping boba and it can actually cause birth defects and possible blockage of the urinal tract. One of his cousins works at a factory where they produce it for commercial use and not even his cousin eats them. Id stick to regular boba and jelly. The jelly is contained in coconut skin which is 100x better than edible plastic but I still recommend you don’t eat too much of boba or jellies

      @@legendarykaiten8183 look, I get where you're coming from, but it really depends form country to country (even continent to continent), shop to shop, as they have different reguations and bans. The birth defects and everything else you listed, are caused by the chemicals in the plastic itself, such as phtalates, BPA/BPS and PVC. Many countries have a ban on these (or some), or rules that state up to some safe concentration. plus the popping boba itself is made from seaweed. thanks for the heads up, but again, it's widely different :)

      Maybe try braising them longer.
      Anyway the current hard ones can still be saved by adding a little water and braise them over low heat for maybe 5-10 minutes. U can test the braising time to figure out the texture that u prefer
