How to Make Homemade Boba (Tapioca Pearls) -- DIY Brown Sugar Boba Recipe
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 тра 2024
- I've never had #brownsugarboba -- an icy drink of milk and brown sugar with chewy tapioca pearls -- and since I'm a 3-hour drive from New York City where a branch of Tiger Sugar just opened up, I'm doing the next best thing and making it myself. Yep, the whole bit. Homemade tapioca pearls, a.k.a. boba, along with a dark brown sugar syrup topped with milk and cream. YEEESSS, please. 🧋

For people in the US who don’t have a scale:
3 1/4 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup water
3/4 cup tapioca starch + extra
1/3 cup brown sugar for the syrup
:)
Thank you, although I don't have a cup to measure so I'm using tablespoons, hehe.
Ty!!!!
Can I use white sugar instead of brown
@@Urlocalmalayboi I think you can, you just won't get the dark color. I haven't tried it though
I don't really care about the colour.
If it's cheesy and satisfying it's perfect
This is how many people want bubble tea after watching this.

I want to try it so baaaaad, but they don't sell boba in my country 😭, and the ingredients are so hard to find
@@nestorismaelflores3625 It is sooo delicious. I really like the brown sugar kind, but the Jasmine flavor just might be my favorite! I hope you get the chance to try it at some point!

I just tried my first ever Boba tea and I will be getting more for the rest of my life.
Welcome to a whole new world😌
I tried boba with my cousin for the first time but now its my 4th time drinking it lol im making one rn
Try thai tea. Its soooo good. Just buy a bag from Amazon, boil it with water. Strain out the leaves and sweeten the tea with sugar to taste. Then put a little bit of half and half and you got a delicious tea for your boba.
Ur missing out
When I first tried boba I hated the tapioca pearls and I only drank the drink but now I love everything I even eat tapioca pearls itself with no drink, I now drink
Jasmine milk tea/with boba
Thai milk tea/with boba
Strawberry horchata/with boba
Coffee horchata/with boba
Matcha green tea/with boba
Oolong milk tea/with boba
Yum 😋 lol

Our family tried three different recipes this afternoon for the tapioca balls; this one was HANDS DOWN the best of the bunch. Thanks for making our efforts sucessful!
Omg this is so good, I don't have to pay 7 to 9 dollars for a drink anymore
Thai Tea is good with tapioca pearls, I never even considered making the pearls myself. Thank you for talking to the camera.
I _love_ Thai tea. There's a boba tea cart near my apartment that will mix any two flavors together and my favorite is blended (like a frappuccino) Thai and almond teas, mixed, with honey boba.
Brought to you by Hello Kitty. I mean Hello Fresh.
YES!!! MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!😍
Vietnamese coffee too, but I'd add some whole milk to it before adding boba.
I can't find Thai tea over here ANYWHERE and I'm so upset 😩

Brenda Rothwell me too!!
Same
You're not alone, I heard “Hella Fresh ” too 😂
Brenda Rothwell I saw a comment that the subtitles also say that
Brenda Rothwell that’s what the captions told me 😂
I made the recipe and the boba turned out so good and chewy!! The boba dough is very viscous and sticky in the pan. After adding the tapioca starch, I made sure to cook the mixture for 2 minutes before turning it onto my counter to knead with a few more spoons of starch.
I drink mine with almond milk but I think a coconut beverage would be a better non-dairy option.
When I first tried this recipe I was sad to see my boba turn out the texture of actual snot , but after rinsing the boba it was much better! I love this recipe!
*Biggest pot i've ever seen*

Why are her pots so comically large?? Especially when she’s next to them it’s like most of her size
I thought the same thing! Lol
it seems like she does some bulk cooking so she has big pots, but they are also closer to the camera. She is also a small lady
She might like to cook for family. My mum is the same, huge ass pots, got about 5 woks, it's only her and my dad 😂🤣 damn I miss her cooking. We would have our tabioca in a desert or pudding though.
Forced perspective. Things look larger than they are because they are closer to the camera. Also, items are smaller than they are the farther away from the camera
chip killa wtf does that have to do with anything
i love her she seems so adorable and genuine
She is so cute, seems relatable and like she would be so easy to talk to. Her voice is sooo calming she could do a nighttime story for an app and I would honestly definitely listen to it. I really appreciate these videos because it's so relaxing and fun to watch after a stressful day or if I'm just feeling stressed out. And the descriptions of what the food tastes like is just awesome and one of my favorite parts. The little funny "mess-ups" like forgetting to turn the power on the mixer and when the mixer things flew out of the mixer was sooo sooo great, me and my kids just laughed and thought that was so funny and makes you just more relatable because I've done stuff like that All The Time! Just wanted to share this to encourage you to do more videos and that your doing an awesome job compared to what's out there. It's just fun to watch and you don't seem like most people doing videos that just want attention or are fake and act hysterical, panicked and inappropriate. Cant wait to watch more of these videos and make some of this stuff, maybe even the dirt or clay cookies but I think I'll start with the boba since that seems a bit more easier.
I have so sooooo many ideas but here are some of my ideas: cowboy coffee(made with out a maker but a new clean sock), pie gallets(no pie pan just flat pan pies), one pie with many different pies in one, fried egg with torch or in hot hot sun, cooking camping food on fire pit, cooking food covered under hot ashes in clay pot, marinated or other fermented foods, amish foods like fermented watermelon rinds, typical pregnant foods, easy bake oven food, filled cake pops, candied bugs lol :P, sushi, wine cake, olive oil cake, how to make homemade wine with different fruits, iron skillet pizza, copycat Starbucks drinks and shakes, the black limited edition Halloween Burger King burger(the one that has squid ink, I think) and fried bananas and deep fried foods.....
Thank you Emmy for doing these videos.
I remember YEARS ago searching for a boba video and your channel popped up and i subscribed back then and I’ve been in the Emmy uverse since then.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Me too! Her referencing that video made me remember that I’ve been a subscriber ever since! Lol
OMG SAME! I was just about to comment this!
I made this and it turned out delicious! I did mess up on the first batch because the water started to evaporate in the pot so for the second batch I was slowly adding in the tapioca flour so that it can thicken up faster.
The whole 90g is a lot to dump once the batter thickens and it'll be dry and hard to work with so baby slow steps is key.
I put the leftover dough in the freezer and boiling it worked perfectly great! I I reccomend boiling the boba for a couple more minutes from the 20 minutes.
Did you freeze the entire dough or did you already shaped them into pearls before freezing them? I've been trying to find a way to store these and it wasn't easy to find an obvious answer anyway so thanks for the help!
EDIT: Shaping the dough into the pearls and freezing them works, just throw them straight into boilling water for an extra 10 mins more than usual
I don’t know why for me it just became a soup and would not solidify ;-;
Lilipou :D SAME
@@VinnieJonny Can we make them pearls and then dry them and store it?
@@awkwardfangirl7682 If you mean boiling the shaped pearls then drying them (not sure how you are going to do that) and storing them, I wouldn't know because I haven't tried that. But let me know if you do give it a go.
I just made this today and it was delicious! Thank you so much. I thought it would be hard at first but it went smoothly ✨
i just want to say thank you because this is actually the very first recipe out of five trials that has worked for me. i dont know what was wrong with the others, but im honestly really happy and thankful that i found this. much love :]

I thought that was what she was saying, and I was thinking there was an offshoot of hello fresh. 😅
Auto-generated subtiles are not always accurate and is hard to read. There’s a reason there’s a hashtag for using proper closed captions instead of auto-gen #nomorecraptions
UA-cams should use proper closed captions to be accessible to everyone.

Why’d she use an entire cauldron for that amount haha
Shane pearls usually need a lot of water so they have room. If it’s her first time making homemade boba I’m sure some instructions out there asked for that amount. Plus I’m sure she didn’t let it go to waste!
@@rai.17 yeah but. That's kinda excessive
Cauldron 😂😂 out of all words, pretty funny
Lmaooooo
I realized when I made it that you need a massive pot otherwise they will stick together and be misshapen.
Great tutorial! I did not carefully consider the size of the tapioca balls, so I ended up with giant ones after boiling that did not fit through my straw. They also immediately sank when I boiled them, even while stirring, so they became a little misshapen. They looked like big weird-ass corn nuts...
your videos are so calming
You had me at homemade. EMMY, YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE. I will be making this with coconut milk. Thank you.
Just so you know, you can freeze the uncooked tapioca dough, so making it in bulk is really sensible!
Hehe love you
Freezing the dough after rolling into tiny balls would be better!
do you know how long it will last when frozen?
@@unsugarcoatedrevs3951 I've tried cooking them up to 2 weeks later and they're still good! :) i haven't tried any longer haha
Maybe you can help me with this - I followed her exact recipe and I struggled with the boba “blob” once I mixed it all in the pan. Melted the sugar into the water, added the tapioca starch, mixed it all together and dumped it onto my cutting board to knead out and it stayed way too supple. It never got firm enough to roll the balls and then keep their shape. Even let it rest for 10 mins to cool a bit and it’s still too supple. Ideas??
oh my gosh emmy! i just now made it and i absolutely love it! no more missing my favorite boba spots :)) the whole family agrees!
First time watching your videos and your voice is so soothing and you explain everything so well!
The "post credit" scene.
Its THIS, that makes you so relatable.
Behind the polished youtuber facade is a remarkable strange person.
I just made this and it came out excellent. I used the ingredients Emmy used. I used 1/4 cup of the sugar and 1/4 cup of water to make the boba dough . I used a total of less than 1 cup of the tapioca flour , including for dusting. This made 3-4 servings of boba.
Made with my kiddos yesterday, turned out to be fun and easy.
Made this last night! Thanks Emmy it worked perfectly ;-) I did make the boba slightly too big but will try again. Great recipe and instructions!
I think adding a nice shot of espresso would take this drink to another level
YES
Omg!!! Yesssss😱🥰
What I was thinking
Matcha powder too
Quarantined and finally made this:
A couple tips: 1. dark brown sugar worked fine.
2. When you make snakes instead of rolling the bits so long to get good round shapes, right after you cut them- sorta press the corners in first and it’ll almost make yourself ball and then you won’t spend so much time “rounding them.”
3. You can store this dough covered well in fridge for a bit, I did for 3 days still good.
Thank you for sharing your talent on making bobba. God bless you.
I tried it and it was so good! Thank you for the recipe!!!!
I love boba... one of those things where I dont know what I’m drinking but the taste and texture of the smooth boba is so good! Lovely video 💕
"bros before orange chicken"
I was curious to try it, then you completely had me at "it's basically like ice cream". Heading to the store to buy the ingredients today!
Have you made it yet? What do you think?
When I tried it, it completely failed. I wonder how it went for you.
I found that you need to put the balls into boiling water! If you put it into the pot while it's still heating up, the water would just break down the boba and make starchy mushes in the water
@@iRawNoodles true
Boba taste kinda like a weak molasses but i think people try it for the texture. It definitely is good with some milk tea.
The texture is similar to mochi but more firm? But still chewy
This looks phenomenal 🤤

I have everything But large enough straws for the boba :(
same
Just make them really small
I only have large enough straws 😤
Just eat them with a spoon or get a reusable straw
Sometimes they have really similar straws at convenience stores, intended for whatever brand of slush drink they sell, otherwise I'd suggest finding a boba shop, even if it's a bit of a trip to get to, just go once, buy some, and keep the straws.
I tried this and it was so good and it was easy to make. Would recommend
