Flat tire? Ausom Gallop Tire Change - PMT Tire Upgrade
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- In this video, Tom replaces the tires on the Ausom Gallop after getting a flat. Instead of reusing the hybrid off-road tires, Tom upgraded to 10x3 PMT tires with 6" inner diameter. He also replaces the tubes with new 10x2.5 tubes. Of course, the whole process is simplified by the fact that the Ausom Gallop comes with split rims. What a dream!

The Ausom Gallop in this video was provided to me for review purposes in November 2023. I continue to use it on a regular basis because it's just that good. This video is unrelated to the review I posted in 2023.

As an ex bicycle racer, I would recommend some type of lubricating powder inside the tire such as talcum powder. It reduces the friction between the tire and tube. The carcass flex of the tire tends to make the tube want to walk around inside the tire causing tube stress.
Great point! Will have to do that :)
@@tomsgadgetgarage Don't use baby powder or personal use powder. It doesn't use talc any longer due to health concerns. Go to a bike shop or online and get tire powder.
Also, mark the tire and rim to see if the tire is walking on the rim.
Good call. I’ll try that out. Could be the reason why that other tube got messed up.
thank you for uploading this video and the product links. Still loving you Gallop? Any reliability issues?
Anytime! Yah the Gallop is holding up great more than a year later. My dad has been riding it around for several months on a daily basis and he loves that thing. Rides just as well today as it did a year ago.
The only two issues I ran into was a flat tire and hydraulic fluid leaking from the front brake, and that was my fault. I was trying to maneuver the scooter around a bunch of other scooters in the garage and the brake line snagged on something. I just reattached the line and bled the brakes. 10 minute fix :).
Wow what a breeze! 🥰 i wish my RS had those kind of rims lol. I still have to swap my tires out for those Self healing ones and ive bee. Dreading doing because of the challenge i had the first time lol. Im more prepared now but it doesnt change that the first time was hard lol 😅
Haha yah I remember that video. Looked like soooo much work. Split rims are a huge blessing, even if I have to use tubes. I’ve even seen posts from Max G2 owners asking if they should just throw their scooter away after hours of fighting tire changes and mangling the rims.
Where did you get the tire from? What size and what brand? Thanks
Hey! This is the exact one I use here from Wyrd Ryds: www.wyrdryds.com/products/pmt-e-fire-10-x-3?ref=vpzkvmwh (affiliate link). These are 10" x 3" tires with a 6" inner diameter.
what tools did you use in this video? could you provide a link?
great video. thanks Did you have any problem with the brakes squeakin with the gallop ?
I did eventually get some squeaking after riding off road in some super dusty areas. I usually wipe down the rotors with some isopropyl alcohol which usually helps.
@@tomsgadgetgarage thank you so much for the reply- was just wondering and debating between brands as well - kygoo are the same scooters but I see less people taking about brake squeaking . Makes me wonder why ?
I’m not too sure whether both companies use the same brake components or not. But one thing I do know is most disc brakes eventually make some noise, especially if you’re riding on dirt/gravel roads.
What I can tell you though is there’s never really been a point where the brakes have been a concern for me. And I’m the kind of guy that will tear a car apart to find a rattle haha.
You can also swap out brake pads for ones made of a different material or higher quality ones. But again, I haven’t needed to do that yet.
Are there any tubeless upgrades that you are aware of?
Hey! Not that I’ve seen yet :(. The good news is that the tubes have held up well on the Gallop, Leopard, and DT1 Pro so far. The one flat I had may have been due to tire creep. Over time, tires may creep around the rim. If the tube isn’t lubricated with something like talc, it can slowly stretch the valve stem and cause a tear.
Any performance improvement on the new tire?
Hey! It’s a heck of a lot quieter and feels better on turns. Probably not as great in rainy conditions, but it’s been a while since we’ve had rain so haven’t quite been able to test that out.
@@tomsgadgetgarage go for eFire you won’t be disappointed
@Tom
Those tires are actually better on wet pavement than the stock tires. I'll be upgrading to them myself soon.
I have a boxer's fracture and two broken ribs that can attest to how poor the stock knobbies are on wet pavement. Those tires have way more grip on pavement.
The break at the valve with the inner tube is there a way to prevent that from happening
So @valirossi below had a great suggestion. Use tire powder to help lubricate the tube. You can also mark the wheel and tire and see if the line breaks over time. This helps detect tire creep which can put stress on the attachment point for the valve stem (probably what happened to me).
@@tomsgadgetgarage thanks
Anytime :).
see you had a 45 degree valve on the broken tube, and the replacement had a 90 degree one. Asking because I just bought a Kukirin G3 Pro , and want to buy some inner tubes to have as a spare. Will a 45 or 90 degree valve fit? I mean either one? thank you. P.S : from what I know, ausom gallop and kukirin g3 pro are very similar
Hey! Get the 45 degree tube. The 90 technically works but it’s a pain to inflate as it’s very close to the rim. Yah the Kukirin G3 Pro uses the same platform and I think components. Both are excellent scooters. The suspension is very nice on these.
Does the Leopard DT1 Pro have splint rim for the front and quick disconnect?
It has a split rim upfront and in the back. The front has a quick disconnect but the rear does not.
What tools did you use in this video?
Hey! I’ll put together a list and let you know shortly :)
@@tomsgadgetgarageThanks 🙏
Hey! Here’s the list:
Adjustable wrench
4mm Allen key
2.5mm Allen key (optional if you want to remove fender)
Small zip ties
Talc powder to rub on the tube as dry lubricant (I didn’t do this in the video but it helps prevent tire creep).
Blue Thread Locker
How the suck do you get the disc brake back in with it on the wheel
Hey! Did you ever get this figured out? I just aligned the disc between the pads when putting the wheel back on.
@ Thank you! I got it figured out, aka my friend shoved it in and now it works. Awesome channel and video btw ❤️
Split rims and quick disconnects on the motors make changing tires a breeze!
So much easier haha. I wish they were all this easy.
How's the new tire holding up?
So far so good. Waaaaay quieter when riding on roads/paved surfaces.
How you like the scooter?
I am about to order one.
I can’t decide between leopard and gallop
Hey! The Gallop is a solid scooter that has enough power to take you up the steepest hills and off the beaten path. It does weigh about 88lbs so not the most portable thing out there. But if that isn’t an issue, I think it’s a great buy that’s honestly hard to outgrow.
The Leopard is also a good option, but doesn’t have anywhere near the power of the Gallop. It’s great for cruising around at 24-26mph and get solid range. Because it has a beefy suspension, it’s going to afford you a lot more flexibility in terms of where you ride compared to your typical commuter scooters (Segway, NIU, etc).
@@tomsgadgetgarage
Great thank you very much
Dude get a Gallop. They aren't even in the same league.
@@nunyabusiness9013 I got one few months ago. I am very happy with the purchase. It very fast and reliable. I mainly use it for short distance travel. It has very good suspension.
Only downside is if I use both motors with 3 grear battery won’t last much. Maybe 20 miles top that’s all. Sweet spot is 2 grear both motors on.
Since I am sport biker I can’t ride anything slow so I go all the way if I am on the scooter😁
Can this apply to the leapord to?
Hello! It applies to the rear wheel with the exception that it doesn’t have a quick disconnect wire. No problem though, just replace it with the wire attached.
The front wheel will require some tire spoons as it doesn’t have a split rim. I may make a video on replacing the Leopard tires.
@@tomsgadgetgarage Okay! Thank you, I was on the way to get some groceries and my tire got a flat, I am hoping to fix it soon!
Ah that’s the worst. I’m always slightly worried of getting a flat when I do some of my hill climb test in the mountains lol.
@@tomsgadgetgaragelooking forward to it, I am ordering a gallop, I am looking forward to it
Are you making a video about the leapord?
Hey is anyone also having the problem of not being able to put the tire back in because the brake rim keeps hitting the actual brake system and won’t go in
Why not tubeless tires??
So those PMTs work with tubed and tubeless. The issue is the split rim on this scooter doesn’t have a sealing mechanism to allow for tubeless. The rear tire on the Emove Cruiser V2 though does have a seal to allow for split tubeless.
@tomsgadgetgarage I think I prefer tubeless tires. Thank you for the reply
Italian PMT fire tires are the best performing e scooter tires in the world. Armor dilloz and a tube liner make flats a non issue. However if your scooter doesn't go 40 mph+ they're overkill. They're really made for hyper scooters and highway speeds.
Is there any reason why the quick release would be stuck?
Literally can’t get it to budge …
I’ve heard some people use a tiny bit of WD-40 but haven’t tried it myself. Dirt and grime may be locking the threads up.
Could you do the leopard plz my back tire went out and i have to swap it out, and it's my first time changing a tire on an electric scooter
I do plan on putting PMT tires on the Leopard as well. I will check out the Leopard’s setup to see how similar it is to the Gallop and get back to you later today.
So I took a look at the Leopard. The rear wheel uses the same split rim setup as the Gallop. So the instructions apply to the Leopard. The only real difference that I can see is no quick disconnect on the Leopard motor. Just want to make sure the scooter is powered off and key removed. You’ll just follow the same steps, except the motor wire will remain connected.
@@tomsgadgetgaragehow did you get a 10 x 3 tire on? I googled the tire size outer and it is 10 x 3.15
@@dylantedlock so the 0.15” is negligible. It’s really just ensuring the tire height fits and the inner diameter (for the rim) is the same.
You showed us all of the steps that are self explanatory. What about the brake calipers?
Do they just magically come off and realign themselves to the rotors after installation?
This is a step by step video, and you skipped the hardest step.
I actually didn’t need to remove the calipers at all. If you want to know how, I cover it in my tire change video for the Emove Cruiser V2. That scooter’s calipers are angled in a way that requires them to be removed. ua-cam.com/video/eIn0Se3ols0/v-deo.html
Do you have any problem with the inner tube since i buy inner tube from out the Ausom i just ride for a week and it just go flat 🥲
I haven’t had any issues since. When you look at the tube, can you see if it was a puncture or something else?
