It's a shock to the system when these songs first start, they are that good. The quality is unbelievable. Australian music was so outstanding in the 70s & 80s. A million memories, fun times!
To me, this is the first track that hints of a sound that would define them during that early 80s period....culminating in Shabooh Shoobah and The Swing, my two favorite INXS albums.
David Pace agreed. My favourite two albums. I loved this song so much I had my older sister but the the "single" for my 12th birthday. Loved them so much. Met them a few years later when I was about 15 and still have an autographed tour book that I treasure. Michael certainly had that "presence" in the flesh. A legend that is sadly missed. RIP Michael Hutchence.
What is amazing is they filmed this at my local beach where I grew up not 5 mins from my house ... I had friends who lived in the houses along the beach in the background. Spit Bridge is just behind them ...
This is amazing I just discovered this song. I seen INXS with OMD in 1986.. I LOVE THIS SONG.. I wish it was filmed on my beach here in Holland Michigan USA.. U are very lucky!!
This music video really shows what INXS were at their core (at least what they initially were) which was 6 friends (brothers) from the north shores of Sydney who just wanted to play music and have fun This is my favourite song of theirs and I wish the band performed it more and I wish it had as much recognition as other songs
INXS extraordinary group from Australia, so undervalued in the 90s and 80s, one of my best-loved pieces of them. they were just 20-24 years of age and already created such fine music. INXS and michael hutchence never ever unremembered
Jemma Forrester Misremembered. And sorry I can’t stop correcting. It’s a bad habit, especially when I’m no grammar school teacher. That’ll learn you gooder.
Thank God for Michael Hutchence and INXS. Oh, how I wish they were ALL still together making this incredible music ❤️ Michael's voice/their songs have helped cheer me up more times than I can count. RIP Michael, you are infinity missed more than you probably ever thought possible.
It could easily be argued that INXS' Underneath The Colours is their best album ever. And that's taking NOTHING away from the next four incredible albums, up to, and including, Kick. Just To Learn Again from UTC is as epic of a song that's ever been produced. This is music, true.
Transported back to my old bedroom growing up in the 80's....listening to this on my headphones...waiting for everyone else in the house to fall asleep so i could sneak out the window to meet my friends in the park. INXS was my mantra.
WoW!!!!!!!!! I never heard this one till this past May... It is my favorite song in the World!!! Bummed out i should have discovered it sooner..INXS RULES IN 2021!!!
After Kick hit big in the States...any INXS fan worth their salt went and bought their whole catalog. The first 2 albums are packed with hidden gems like this one.
This is a well-written song with so much groove--just listen to the bass line. I had the opportunity to talk music with these gents and get to know them some. I did not know them while Michael was still alive but a friend of mine did--which is how I met them. Andrew seemed ashamed of these early albums. He told me they should've never been released. Needless to say, I was stunned. Those early albums sampled all of the wonderful music that existed then. SKA, pop, rock, punk--it was all there, and delightfully so. Jon, the drummer, was a pleasant conversationalist indeed. He seemed to enjoy all the same music as my friends and I. Of course, that has to do with being the same age. Any time I hear really vintage INXS, I stop and listen closely and enjoy the uniqueness of their early work. As young people, we were sad to have to share the band with a broader audience once Listen Like Thieves was released. Before that album, and for a very long time, INXS seemed like our little secret. Shabooh Shoobah is my favorite INXS album. To me it is nearly perfect.
The title of this great INXS song has been my life motto for the last 27+ years(and always will be) since I first seen this video on the best of INXS X Years VHS back in November 1990...bought Inxsive compilation import CD a month later. It never grows old and always "stays young".
This is great song to listen when you go early to work and you hate your work and people at work are awful....you dance in your mind...i was just a child when michael died, they wasn't band of my youth, but now i listen to them often, this man is great,he was genius, and i love their music...😊
Straight out of the gate and they come up with songs like this. Poor Michael I don't think he and the band really got the respect they deserved, they could do so much more than straight ahead Rock n Roll .
Such incredible talent~no one has captured their uniqueness, charisma and authenticity to date (IMO). Michael was my favorite frontman by far🎤 🙌🏼❤️🎶🎵 RIP Hutch💖
I love the early lyrics. Very free and inspired. I think when they got to listen like thieves a decision was made either consciously or unconsciously to keep it simple for the masses. The lyrics on the Swing and Shaboo are brilliant.
Nov 19, 2019 Listen to the Chorus..It is without a doubt the SAME Chorus used in Michael's Song: "I Just Want to Slide Away and Come Alive Again" He recorded it along with a Video with Bono..It was as if He was remembering back to the beginning before their Music became a Business..Haunting
Their BEST Song by a country mile and the only one I have on my I Pod. This song is as GOOD as it GETS ever, by any band EVER. And should be the one INXS decent song are remembered for FOR EVER. But mainstream radio never play it instead they thrash all their other RUBBISH
Homestead Hotel Qld .1982. As we drove up, I asked my mate Hams, “What’s I.N.X.S.? He said it means in excess. My ignorant grown up kids groan at this story. Michael sang like a bird, I was hooked!
I am only just starting to study the lyrics to their early work. Although one of my top shelf Albums it never mattered not to know all the right Lyrics. When you finally study, you think they were even more clever a band of artists than you thought !
Wonderful Hand Made music from INXS, is hardly missing these days, everytime I'm down and disappointed from life this is a possibility for me to flee from reality and mourn the times back then after I did this it seems like a therapy to me I feel lucky and healed, thank you INXS for the priceless masterpiece
How i wish Michael was still here. 💔💔💔💔 I was only 10 yrs old when Michael died, and grew up 2 - 2 1/2hrs away from the band as well. I loved listening to INXS as early teen exploring music, and will be forever captivated by Michael's on stage presence and charisma. There will only be one Michael. And God chose the very best to come home to the land of kings. Sweet dreams Michael. May you rest now in heaven, your job on earth is done. ❤️
still young in spirit ... stay young ... was there for the ride had this album still have these tunes in my head 'black and white" "shove it brother just keep walking" ...
It's a shock to the system when these songs first start, they are that good. The quality is unbelievable. Australian music was so outstanding in the 70s & 80s. A million memories, fun times!
You know this
Who were your favourite Australian groups? I heard a song by Australian Crawl was really good. 😎
Australian underground movies from this era are epic as well
I assume you have seen Dogs in Space of course. A lot if those actors are in other movies.
I agree
I listen to this when I wanna just go back to the time when the world and life was simple and straightforward. Now it's too damned complicated.
That's right ,the good old days... When life used yo he easier, healthier AND cheaper!
Not only you, wish michael could rise from the dead and make us lucky with his performance, charisma and new songs
Are you even for real. Adults sure didn't think that back then
Their earliest stuff still kicks major ass after more than 30 years.
Yes I agree.
Love shabooh shabah
In fact their best stuff, Colours, Shabooh, Swing by far their best albums!
40 years on now!
The musical hooks in this song are fantastic.
To me, this is the first track that hints of a sound that would define them during that early 80s period....culminating in Shabooh Shoobah and The Swing, my two favorite INXS albums.
Agreed 100% ! ! They had a UNIQUE sound!
I hear the song "Slideaway" in the background. It would appear 15 years later.
Also Listen Like Thieves.
@@TheWhereyouare Wow...I did so immediately, too. Now wondering if that was intentional. Guess we'll never know.
Damn beat , bass and sound , I’m 52 and this still outputs vibes 👍🏼💪
What is amazing is they filmed this at my local beach where I grew up not 5 mins from my house ... I had friends who lived in the houses along the beach in the background. Spit Bridge is just behind them ...
I always thought that it looked familer. I used to live in Mosman in the early 80's
@@newtonmichael Nice one Mark - INXS were French's Forest boys - this is filmed at Clonnie.
Why is that amazing?
This is amazing I just discovered this song. I seen INXS with OMD in 1986.. I LOVE THIS SONG.. I wish it was filmed on my beach here in Holland Michigan USA.. U are very lucky!!
How cool is that😁
This music video really shows what INXS were at their core (at least what they initially were) which was 6 friends (brothers) from the north shores of Sydney who just wanted to play music and have fun
This is my favourite song of theirs and I wish the band performed it more and I wish it had as much recognition as other songs
They can't play it now? Rip Michael

would have to be their most underrated track
No... I am afraid that that would be ...Don't change....
No... I’m afraid that would have to be... Dancing on the Jetty...
It's much better than this video for it.
@@montbrehain I agree.
Their most underrated album too
Thank God for Michael Hutchence and INXS. Oh, how I wish they were ALL still together making this incredible music ❤️ Michael's voice/their songs have helped cheer me up more times than I can count. RIP Michael, you are infinity missed more than you probably ever thought possible.
So Loved and Missed so Much. STAY YOUNG.

Now Michael will forever stay young. Though he died before my time, I miss him... so much
Watching this on my 51st birthday. Damn, I miss the 80s.
That build up from 1:52 to 2:21 is just incredible! And that bass is fantastic too 🎶 INXS forever 🙌🏼❤️
Agree, mature song writing, for a band so young.
WoW!!!!!!!!! I never heard this one till this past May... It is my favorite song in the World!!! Bummed out i should have discovered it sooner..INXS RULES IN 2021!!!
You should hear their older albums. Incredible.
Esp Shaboo Shabah
2023 still rock 😊
Incredible song, this had me jumping at 16 when it first came out.
One of the best INXS songs ever...
Please, how does this only have 50,000 views!!! Such a great song!
Tim Montgomery ikr!! 😩💕
Tim Montgomery there's others, this is their keeper

Tim Montgomery if you're not Australian you mightn't know it .. pretty early stuff but yeah great song :))
After Kick hit big in the States...any INXS fan worth their salt went and bought their whole catalog. The first 2 albums are packed with hidden gems like this one.
Love this song ! Great message ! Jon Farriss’s drumming in this 👌🏻
Always listen to this song when I'm feeling down, sort of picks me up,
Brilliant! So melodic, and the lyrics! You could see all the potential to rule the world!

Inxs best song. Pure artistic merit
El más grande de todos ,viva Michael hutchence , nunca habrá otro cómo él
In two more years this will be a 40 year old song, completely insane.
so beautiful, Rip Michael.

I hear a future song of theirs in the background. "I just want to slide away and come around again." Bono added his voice to it.
Such incredible talent~no one has captured their uniqueness, charisma and authenticity to date (IMO). Michael was my favorite frontman by far🎤 🙌🏼❤️🎶🎵 RIP Hutch💖
Todavía disfrutándo de ésta gran banda y de mi Michael, su talento, carisma y hermosa voz.
Tambien un físico envidiable lindo de más!
This song is one of the most glorious modern pop production songs I haver ever heard.
The reverbs on this song are absolutely incredible.
May the lead singer RIP! He is missed
Happy 62nd Birthday beloved Michael, we still love and miss you.
Michael's voice was less refined on this song and album. I still love it. It seemed to sound smoother around The Swing.
I recently realized that I got a thing for early inxs. Man this is awesome vibes
Yes. Like Kick, but starting to like pre-Kick more.
This is really underrated
*A young Micheal Hutchence, we miss you cobber :(*
Massively underrated song!
I love the early lyrics. Very free and inspired. I think when they got to listen like thieves a decision was made either consciously or unconsciously to keep it simple for the masses. The lyrics on the Swing and Shaboo are brilliant.
Michael’s early lyrics, absolute poetry
the formatting of Horizons, the depth of Underneath the Colors (the song AND the entire album as a whole)
