The video was filmed by director Russell Mulcahy among the jungles, beaches, and temples of Sri Lanka in April 1982. Scenes were filmed atop the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, among the ruins of a Buddhist temple at Polonnaruwa and the island's southern coastline, with Simon Le Bon appearing in Speedos.

1985..8th grade..Duran Duran was everywhere and loved it. Other than MJ and Madonna they made the best music videos. MTV was only 4 years old then & every 80s kid and teen loved it!! God I miss the 80s!! Thank you Duran Duran!! There is no 80s without y'all in it!!❤❤❤
Minha mãe ouvia muito essas músicas quando eu era criança. Fiquei um tempão tentando lembrar qual era essa música. Hoje me recordei. Minha mãe já não está mais nesse plano, então de alguma forma conseguir ouvir essa música novamente me deixa pertinho dela. ❤️

True, the hook is what got me.. I'm 51 and was a teenager in the 80s.. Music then wasn't appreciated in the UK as life was a struggle with high employment etc.. Its only now, that 80s music is being appreciated.. 🤷🏿♀️
Why does this song mean so much to me, well.... I'll tell you. It isn't the song alone, and if it didn't have that tiny little piano sound I might not feel so tied to it. But it pulls my soul strings because I have lost nearly all of my family since I am older, and even when I was younger, losing a love, and that little sound in the background reminds me of when I was a very little girl, and my mom bought me a little play piano that sounded like that, for Christmas, and I never forgot that wonderful little toy that turned me into a deeply moving, professional singer surrounded by musicians. I love the harmonies, I love the other instruments in the background, but that little piano still brings tears to my eyes...I simply miss my childhood beyond belief as I get closer to my end, now after 72 years.
I completely and utterly resonate with the essence of your comment. Even though I was born in '81, listening to this song evokes a profound, inner appeal with the longing and muted regret that I have about fundamental issues in my life that I appear to have only grasped a significant understanding of when it is too late. I only have my mother left in my life as a strong connection but even that connection is still in a phase of raw development due to the ignorant ingrate I was as an only child with divorced parents. Anyway, I wish you the warmest and most soulful, wholesome vibes with the most divine of blessings, from Sydney City, Australia!
What a lovely song, I’m 52 and still love Duran Duran❤ This song was shot in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 and Duran Duran comes on Vacation to Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 I’m Sri Lankan and live all my life on this paradise island 🏝️
My aunt loved this song, she died almost two weeks ago, because of coronavirus I could attend to the funeral or anything. I feel like she's with me when I listen to this, those endless days when I was a girl and she supported me always,
Hi, Katrina! You must be a lovely girl to express so well and simply this masterpiece song, as you said, "beautiful song;" I am jealous that Brian here quoted the obvious fact you are so beautiful when I would have loved to get there first! Have a sweet life Katrina and Brian! Cheers - Mike.
“And you wanted to dance, so I asked you to dance, but fear is in your soul. Some people call it a one night stand, but we can call it paradise” Always found this line to be so poetic and well-written. Can’t wait to see them in September!!!!
Such is the power of music, truly good songs can evoke strong feelings in the listener. when you look at 80s songs a lot had a similar "feel" even if they sounded nothing alike. Look up Saigon Kick's "Love is on the way" They along with many others who were so called one hit wonders created such iconic sounds that scream pure 80's vibe.
The fact that these guys are not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame is the biggest heap of bulls@#$ of all time!!! They deserve to be in it -- they owned the 80's.
I hear you friend and echo the same...it's an injustice, but we all know RRHF is just a personal fan club of a narrow few and not a true representation of the fans of Rock & Roll music.
I am an excellent mother. My son, who is 19 blasts Duran Duran with his excellent sound system and truly understands and appreciates this group. Hey, what can I say? Seeing this video causes my mind to do flips because I look in the mirror and what I see does not comport to what I feel. Who cares, I turn blind to time's weather and choose to see budding flowers which I planted. May all excellent music roll and swirl into infinity in this cosmic drift.
Class of 1988 graduate here. Remember every freaking word to this song always will my favorite band always. Does it remind you of Sade a little bit? Now almost 40 years later?
+bunny fish I agree, how anybody, anybody could give this a thumbs down has to have a heart made of coal. Over 1,000 people?? Where are those people from anyways? This song is fantastic. Is there any other song out there like it? It sticks with you, it's unique and a catchy tune. My fav's are Hungry Like the Wolf, Save a Prayer and Lonely In Your Nightmare.
Steven Harp I think it's just trolls, they spend their days posting hate all over music videos..Right after The Eagles Glenn Frey died, their music vids were flooded with hate posts..Durun Durun ranks up there with the best rock bands of all time
+bunny fish so much freaking hate. Why oh why? it has to be the young ones, and if it IS older people, shame on them for sure!! Ought to know better than to spread hate.
This video is gorgeous on so many degrees. The colors, the harmonies, the sexiness of the men, the beauty of Sri Lanka. The 80s videos are like works of art.
I ask myself frequently: am I happy? I say "yes". But If I'm happy -- if I'm really happy with my present -- then why I feel like I can't let go the past? Watching videos like this, watching how young Simon and friends, makes me feel like I want to do a time travel to the past
My first concert was In April of 1984 at Toronto Maple Leafs Gardens. Ratt opened up. I was 17 years old. I just turned 50 a week ago. I was in love with the whole damn band & this is my favorite song and video. We had it so good back then....if only we'd known it.
I'm not a musician, and dont understand music, I'm into harmonics, field recordings and modular synthesis etc. Theres something about this track, the harmonics, layered vocal sounds their pitch and asynchronousness, is simply; magic. I've always loved this track.
Interesting musical element about this song is that the bass line as it goes on gets less and less complicated. He plays less notes as it goes on. It adds this element of weariness or desperation almost that really fits in with the theme. Manages to keep it engaging as well.
this song and sound is so good.. it hurts emotionally knowing we are so far away from the time when this song played. the world was real back then. and it's gone.
This song is 42 years old 😮 and still better than ever

I was a senior in high school in the states when the RIO album was released. The next year I moved to England. Those were the best times and the best music. Nothing today compares.🇬🇧

Easily their best song, an early culmination of pop, danceable bassline ,post-punk, tropical/Pacific vibes and even metallic guitar licks
They did have some great bass lines in their music. I never appreciated it back in the day. But in hindsight this was a great band...

The 80s was a time when songs were sung with passion and feelings!

Duran Duran is so underrated. Incredible band imo .
Wish you good health to keep enjoying love life music

Such is the power of music, truly good songs can evoke strong feelings in the listener. when you look at 80s songs a lot had a similar "feel" even if they sounded nothing alike. Look up Saigon Kick's "Love is on the way" They along with many others who were so called one hit wonders created such iconic sounds that scream pure 80's vibe.

Seeing this video causes my mind to do flips because I look in the mirror and what I see does not comport to what I feel.
