You can never go wrong with Linda Ronstadt. You are absolutely correct about her backing band. She always surrounded herself with an amazing group of talented musicians. She also appreciated them and showed it. One of her early touring bands included three of the founding members of Eagles. When Don Henley and Glen Frey expressed a desire to form their own band, Linda encouraged them and helped them get started even though it meant she had to find a new road band. She also asked Peter Asher (from Apple music/Beatles fame) to be her manager. He knew she was destined to be a star and did a wonderful job promoting her music. But amongst all of that there was her enormous talent. Thanks for this video. More Linda Ronstadt please. 🌺✌️

Linda was my first album cover crush in the early 70's, then after hearing her voice just made me fall in love with her even more. She has one of the most diverse singing talents singing everything from country, rock, blues, jazz, and even opera. She was first with a band called Stone Ponys with a song, "Different Drum" which was written my Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. Later on, some of the members of her back-up band asked her permission to go out on their own, and she said yes. They became a little band called the Eagles.

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "You're No Good", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. Linda also collaborated with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris on a few "Trio" albums.

As for the Eagles being her backing band. Not quite true 😕. Two of the players in her band expressed the desire to start their own band. Linda encouraged them and actually helped them find others to join their group. That band went on to become the Eagles.

I know what all the other comments will say. I've said it all myself.
Recently I have come to a realisation that I was missing another of her talents.
She was an incredible PRODUCER of music.
She had a wonderful eye and ear for how a work should be presented to the audience. it's evident in the way she steps out of the spotlight and lets her troup have their moments in it.
If you get around to viewing her Mariachi productions. She could have won a Grammy with her and a couple guitarists in big hats but that's not how she did it. It was a production with a few dozen other on the stages playing instruments, dancing or doing rope tricks. She doesn't bring the party to you. She brings you to the party.

She was the Queen of Rock in the 70's into the 80's but tired of the limitations of the genre and began exploring other types of music, jazz, folk, mariachi, operetta, traditional pop (songs from the Great American Songbook), country and punk among others.
A song that really spotlights her upper range is "Poor Wandering One" from when she was appearing on Broadway in a revival of Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta "The Pirates of Penzance"
For traditional pop she does a great job with "What's New?" , and it's a story song which you said you favored. She collaborated on a couple of album with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris under the name Trio, lots of great music but there is a video of them singing "The Sweetest Gift" which is a great representation of how they worked together.

Bayou is a term used in parts of the southern US, such as Louisiana or Mississippi, that describes a "wetland" area. It might be a marsh or swampy end of a lake, or a slow moving river. Lots of birds and animals hang out in those places. And it's out of the way, so young people like to hang out there to party and get away from the older crowd. So besides it's natural beauty, it can also represent a romantic spot where young lovers meet. A "blue" bayou isn't really a common name, but since many bayous are slow moving water areas, the water is often more cloudy or muddy, and blue implies a clear clean water, which also adds to the romantic vision of the location. She's singing about the place and people she misses from those memories of youth.

Linda was one of the most versatile singers ever. (I say was because she can no longer because of a palsy that robbed her of her singing voice.) She had no fear of trying new genres - often over the objections of her record labels and she was always proven right. Truly a virtuoso. This song was written by Roy Orbison and he recorded the original version that Linda covers here,
Another part of Linda's work that's worth exploring is her "Trio" recordings with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris.

FYI - A bayou is common in the American south (e.g. Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, etc.). It is a small body of water in low-lying areas, quite often, a very slow-flowing creek, or stream.

    The meaning of "Blue Bayou":
Blue Bayou is simply a town in the southern US (probably Louisiana), and the singer is homesick and wants to go back to her hometown of Blue Bayou. It's just a sleepy town on a river (a river is called a "bayou" in certain parts of the US), and the singer is homesick. That is all the song is about.

Linda Ronstadt is in a league of her own. The only artist rising today who has the same level of expression in her voice is Angelina Jordan. These two are proof that if you have talent auto-tune isn't needed to sound good. Perhaps new artists who see Linda and Angelina as role models will bring soul back to today's music!

New subscriber here. Country music historically told a story, often of pain and heartache but often quite moving. For more Linda Ronstadt, check out "Don't Know Much" with Aaron Neville. For a story type song (a sad one) find "He Stopped Loving Her Today" by George Jones. It's an oldie. And for a newer story telling song find "This Ain't Nothing" by Craig Morgan. Fair warning, have tissues nearby. Keep up the good work.

Music today isn't the same. It's all about charisma and se*xapeal. How do you look in a thong or with your shirt off? Face tattoos. Sunglasses indoors. And a silly narcissistic name or acronym for a name. If you can't sing, don't worry. We'll fix that in the studio. We have the drum machine and studio musicians you've never met ready to record. Lyrics are irrelevant. No story telling at all. No vocal coaches or training needed.

Hey, using studio musicians, even if the artist never met them, isn't necessarily a bad thing. A case in point was the Simon & Garfunkel song "The Sound of Silence" which wouldn't have been the hit it became if it weren't for some executive at their record label taking their original recording and jazzing it up with instruments recorded by studio musicians. In fact, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel didn't even know about it until after it was released and became a huge hit.
