      Thanks, its not vulnerable just honest, all creatures are unique. My service dog is 3 years old and just getting the better walk but by design she is meant for herding cattle so she is a handful. She is my third service dog and not easy but in her defense she does a lot and a serious herding dog straight from a working farm. It's why they are not often seen as SD. The method i use is to back up just to the point before reaction we train yhere and if we are okay we do it again a step closer until we have done all her vulnerable tricks and we are right there. It is different and dometimes we have a bad week it happens to all great dogs, they are just not robots. Like the other day i forget to take her leash off and i three the ball, my bad and my pain. You are great at what you do and we love your shares.

      Rachel Fusaro No, I don’t think so! I never really thought of that and like that you can have it on your treat pouch like that. I know of people who have things like that on them in case of some random dog getting in their space/near their dog. Not something you want to have to use, but can help if needed.

    Rachel!!! You are the 7th person whose videos I am/have been watching. This one is 5 STAR for me. I have had my newly-adopted-from-the-same-foster-family two dogs for 24 hours, now. Neither has eaten more than a couple of pieces of food, so no interest AT ALL in treats. Lucy - 30 pound pit mix one-year-old - is sweet, missing most of her manners, and "seems" full of positive puppy energy. Sampson - 80 pound bully pit two-to-three-year-old - is smart, massively strong, and insecure, which is no surprise. We had enough challenges today to write a small book (started guarding toys AND me from Lucy, pushed through a gate and chased my chickens and then my miniature donkeys - who fought back, actually came to me in the pasture, so I could walk ha-ha him back to the yard, was OK with Lucy for a nap, just now bullied Lucy away from me at my computer . . . ) So - any thoughts on reinforcers, so I can leash train in my yard? I sense an old soul in this dog, and I have my sights on a month from now, but my 67-year-old body and sore hands may not be up to this challenge. (yes, I am - yes, I am)

    • @RachelFusaro
      @RachelFusaro  4 роки тому

      Ann Gaydosh you’re starting on the right foot - that confidence will help more than you know. What about toys? Or verbal praise? Sounds like you have a lot on your plate so I’d try to start fresh. I’d remove all toys, bones and chews and just start working with them on basic obedience, exercise etc. It’ll make you the focus, not the toys. You got this!!

    Thank you for the great advice on positive reinforcement during training! So many people go straight towards collars and harnesses that advertise they stop pulling. I was one of them! It didn't work at all for my doodle. What did was positively reinforcing heeling and good walking by frequent treating while she was demonstrating the behavior I wanted! We have to show our pups the right behavior and not rely just on equipment to do so.

    • @RachelFusaro

    Do you have any leash walking tips for houses that have invisible fences? In my neighborhood, we have a lot of neighbors that have invisible fences and their dogs have full range of the whole yard and when we walk our dogs, the dogs in the invisible fence continue to follow and bark all the way across the front of their yard and it is very distracting for our dogs.

    Can all of this translate to small dogs? Bending over a lot to reward is gonna kill my back. I have a 5 month old chihuahua terrier mix and a 14 month old chihuahua Dachshund. Both girls. Also how can I do this with two dogs? They are both very reactive dogs. Also would I need front clip harnesses for the both of them?

    I want to try this leash training in the morning after he potty. Can I use the regular dog food to reward him and make that his breakfast? Or i have to give him treat and give him separate breakfast when we get home? When i wake up i take him potty and walk, only give him treat when he go potty, and when we come home i feed him breakfast.

    Thank you for this video :) The only problem is that i have a small dog - a pug. With a bigger dog, it is easier to treat them while walking becaus their head is on the same level as your hands. With a small dog i have to slouch down every time so after 3 months my back and leg joints hurt quite bad (i trained every day at least 4-5 times a day on walks) :( so i cant do this kind of treating anymore :( thakfully during the training time some things stuck - the pulling and getting attention is still a bit problematic. Its sad that i cant treat him properly at the right time because of the joint pain issues that come with bending down constantly on a 10-20 minute walk. Do you have any tips on this matter?

    The "negative" in "negative reinforcement" means to take something away; positive = applying something, negative = take something away.
    Positive reinforcement is, e.g., giving a treat.
    Negative reinforcement is, e.g., giving more line on a lead when Fido isn't pulling (taking away the tight restraint).
    Positive punishment is, e.g., yelling at a dog.
    Negative punishment is, e.g., withholding affection when Doggo whines (taking something away to decrease the likelihood of a behavior in the future).
