Great video! And I feel like another great way to “socialize” a dog is to just let them exist around other people/dogs without having to approach them. Teaching a good place command and having them just observe and soak in the environment around them can be really beneficial in the early stages of their life!

Exactly! Socialized dog does not need to engage, just be neutral around dogs and people.

I’ve been watch your videos for a few months now to help me become a better handler for my rescue Cane Corso. And we have come a long way since the first day I got him. Walking was a nightmare and I dreaded going out during the day and would only walk him extremely early or very late. Now we are able to walk throughout the day. Him and I still have a lot of work to do but slowly but surely we get it done. Thank you for all the great videos.

It’s so cool to see how quickly the boxer adapted to the E collar and how the owner got her timing down. Its also amazing how quickly Tom reads and adapts the training technique to each individual dog. So inspiring to watch the owners gain confidence in their ability to handle their dog. Thank you Tom, for so much usable content! You are a God-send for so many of us!

I like how Tom shows and explains why we need different tools and how all tools don't work for all dogs. This boxer did not respond to positive only, got frustrated with the prong and needed more pressure than the slip collar. The e-collar was the best choice in this case.

I’m really loving your videos. I rescued/ found a stray dog. No collar no chip no one claimed him. He’s fearful of people and very reactive. He loves and adores me. He’s fairly obedient. I can’t get him to trust, not bark/ lunge at other people. He does not like my family.
No rescue replied to me when I asked for help. The vet told me he’s a liability and will never be adoptable.
I’ve had him in my home because I refuse to send him to the shelter and know they’d put him down.
    He’s about 8 months old.
He’s smart and affectionate. He loves other dogs. He loves me.
I tried adopting him out 3 times during the first two weeks but he wouldn’t let anyone near him.
He was/ is so good with me I never expected these reactions to others.
I’m slowly working with him and he’s doing better little by little. I’ve had dogs my whole life but never one like him, so I’m learning how to help him best I can.
I recently found your videos and they are great. You make so much sense to me. Thank You I’m learning a lot from you.

My second boy occasionally, unexpectedly will lunge at something while on the leash. Catches me off guard, but I’ve learned to better time my correction thanks to you. After a local trainer had introduced us to the idea of potentially needing to invest in an ecollar for our training with our 6 yr old ACD and his leash reactivity I binged watched all of Tom’s videos to learn more about them. Then when our now 1 yr ACD arrived and we struggled again with leash reactivity, tried use a slip (prong collars are very hard to come by here in aus) he redirected onto me on a walk one morning I thought why not give it a shot, because we couldn’t keep doing what we were doing. What was him flying at the end of the leash to get to car, dogs, people etc we are now able to communicate so effectively and enjoy our walks, loose leash with no issues at all. He is a much happier boy. It has even given me the confidence and ability to walk him and his older brother together alone.

Love it! I have a boxer who learned this behavior with prong collar and mini trainer. She responds to me telling her to sit and wait. If we continue to walk by another dog I tell her “with me” and we just move on by. Boxers are so sensitive to commands. I see this girl dropping her head when corrected. They are so smart.

This owner has very similar feelings to how I did when I first considered using an ecollar. The negative propaganda out there regarding ecollars, even when you know you are going to use the tool safely and responsibly, can be really hard to deal with. It's so reassuring to see a properly applied tool help behaviour change so quickly.

As a dog trainer who doesn't personally use these tools for my clients, I'll also never tell a client it's wrong to use these tools because each dog is different in their needs and sometimes this is the best tool when you've exhausted all other options. I've trained dogs and clients who just didn't enjoy the long term effects of these training tools but I feel they can work when taught how to use them appropriately. I could see her mental struggle and I LOVE that she challenged him with those questions about what is the dog really associating this vibrate to and tom answered with ease and confidence. awesome trainer!

We took our 14 weeks old Malinois to puppyclass wearing a regular collar and got practically yelled at for wearing a collar (???) and we bought a frontclip harness at the facility. From age 14 weeks to 9 months he had the harness and he was pulling us everywhere and we fed him treats all the time (because positive only) so now we have a reactive dog who expects treats after a major barking-at-strangers-moment.Yay :')

The dog training world is very damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't. No matter the method, someone will always have something nasty to say. Nova learned a ton of basic obedience and tricks very low force and high positive reinforcement. Now, she struggles with some reactivity and owner protection that we're working on with a more balanced method. I used a balanced method with Mochi from the start, and her dog aggression and reactivity are nearly non-existent. Thank you, Tom, for helping me change my mindset so I can do what's best by my girls

Tom! You’re the man! The real deal! The absolute BEST!
My dog was very similar to this dog. He developed some leash reactivity to dogs after getting picked on by other dogs when he hit doggy puberty. He is the sweetest boy and it made me feel terrible that he became so fearful of other dogs, especially because he used to play with everyone.
I took my boy to a well-known UA-cam trainer here in CA and it was NOT a good experience. The guy was way too rough with my boy and did not help his fear at all. After that, I focused on YOUR methods and he has made incredible progress. I signed up for group obedience classes for exposure to dogs and did the rest on my own in my neighborhood, in front of the pet store, around town, and on the hiking trails. My guy is now so much more confident and so much happier!
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for these videos!! You are helping so many dogs by doing this. We are forever grateful for you.

I can't even put into words how grateful I am for humans like you Tom. You truly are making giant strides proving that the Dogs didn't just start having a nervous, aggressive, timid personality, humans caused their emotional trauma responses. They can heal and forgive. It's incredibly endearing just how much Dogs love and want to protect and please. It's beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing and teaching me. ❤️❤️‍🩹❤️

I was able to transform my reactive, resource guarding, fearful dog in 3 days, thanks to your videos. Now he's calm and obedient and happily allows me near his food. Thank you!

It's so cool that you are able to help sunny and her owner becomes more confident in their training. I think you have chang the dog training community in such a positive way and I thank you for that because without your guidance I would be lost. The way you teach dog owners on your video is so much easier to understand than other dog training videos because I feel like you show it more from the dog's perspective than being more Demint, yelling, being very fiscal to the dog is not right. The owner of the dogs you help makes them more equal for the owner and the dog so they can live a happier life.

Great video and great advice/points made.
I'm on my 4th male Boxer in 26 years - he's nearly 18 months old and whilst is probably the most obedient out of all of them in our home & garden, the moment we take him outside, he is definitely the most reactive. We've tried to resist using the e-collar on walks but I'm going to be trying it after watching the video.

I like how you take an open en technical approach to the e-collar, and show how this collar can be used with a very high level of fairness to the dog and the wellbeing of both dog and owner.

I've got a 7 month old Cane Corso and we are blessed to have found a trainer in our area who subscribes to the same style of training. We're working on his leash reactivity and soon we'll be working on meeting new dogs. I love the videos and I can't stress enough how important I think the work you're doing is for dog owners so thank you!

I love this session. I have a beautiful one year old boxer girl and she has high reactivity to me putting a leash, prong collar or any collar on her and very high energy. I am going to consider the training collar which might help her adjust to walking better. Thanks Tom for sharing all this wonderful information.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE video. So accurately depicts pretty severe leash reactivity. Next step, at least for me Tom Davis: Making the transition from the leash reactivity issue to actually being able to meet and socialize/play with other dogs.
