Love your videos the kids are doing wonderful. So is mom . There's a good tire repair called Green slime you put it in to the tire through the car stem and the tire full of air and then you drive and as you drive the slime feels the puncture it works really really good a lot better than what you were using also I would recommend especially with big tires there are some better compressors out there thought you would like to know
Agree the green slime is great for many tyres , especially smaller ones like lawnmowers & quads, motorbikes, etc, I use it & carry a spare bottle everywhere, it is also supposed to balance them to some degree, however in this sidewall type case I’m not sure if the ‘Green Slime’ would have sealed a tear of that size, so having plugs on hand is probably essential in this scenario too, but yeah, always have a bottle of Green Slime on hand for punctures, slow leaks & re-seals. Talk to some tyre guy’s to get their take on it, as they don’t recommend it for some tyre type scenarios.
Poor man’s torque wrench for wheel nuts -> telescope breaker bar, tape measure + calculator. 1kg at a distance of 1m is about 9.8nm Someone weighing in at 85kg, would need to set the bar at about 50cm and put their whole weight on it to torque at 420nm
Mate, you need a hand winch to help lift up the spare. Just think of blowing out your back and needing to drive to the nearest hospital? Technically a torque wrench is not needed to tighten the wheel nuts, as the standard wheel brace bar and the pull force on the bar is around 400Nm. Basically there is a calculation of a 80kg pull force over the length of the 1 meter wheel brace bar is around 400Nm.
About the fire lighters who cares do what you have to do when and whenever with what ever. I’m in the 60 ish age group and most people that age don’t care what others think keep doing what your doing it’s great. Also we’ve done what you are doing now, we’ve been on the road for 6 years and still haven’t finished yet only done about half of the country so far loving every minute of it keep your videos coming there great. Cheers to all of you. Safe travels
Geez this brings back some good memories of when me and the missus ventured into the outback in the 60's in a L.W.B. Land Rover 5 door Safari wagon, no winch, no cross locks, just some shovels hahaha but still had some great trips just like you are having, keep 'em coming Cheers
can you use the winch for your boat to take the tyre on and off the back. just drape something over the back of the boat carrier to reduce friction on the rope. don't wanna risk doing your back in when your in the middle of the bush.
Possibly. I’m a young man but mate. If I can’t change a tire, I shouldn’t be touring. There is lots of ways I could winch the tire down. Maybe one day I’ll be wise and install something
How we save water in the shower - Get in, open the water and get yourself wet. Close the water. Now soap yourself up and scrub. When you done, open the water an rinse yourself off. Works real good.
Well I would suggest a breaker bar large breaker bar that's what I used on my truck little large socket that fit my bolts and the nice thing is since it was nice and large and you get a lot of work you can really torque on the bolts that's what I would use but you need something for that spare tire like electric winch electrical off the truck
Great video guys, well done on getting the beast over the sand hills, how are your backs going after all that? You might have to get a little 600kg winch for that spare tyre, or something like that to save your back . Cheers rick in Perth ❤
You should get a front receiver like the one on back and get a winche on a caddy, where you can use it either in front or back, I installed both front and back on my RV 2 YEAR ago I've never used it an I probably will never use it, but it's there just incase.
Mate Love the Chanel .the van suspension set up is the best iv ever seen the truck an van combo is absolutely perfect. Great to see a young family out exploring an living the dream. Realy good camera work
Most excellent. Did something similar with my daughter 25vyears ago camping on top of an old Kand Rover round the UK. Even now we still talk about it. Torque wrench? We just use the 'FT' principle... Safe, happy travels 👍
I work on a lot of the RFS trucks in NSW all we use for those wheel nuts is Milwaukee 3/4” rattle guns and check them after but they are always the correct torque or tighter
First time I have watched your video it seems that God has blessed you in your travels and with your family later on in life you'll have two strong young men to help you out God bless you put some more good videos out like this I'll start watching them
A mate you do wear shoes, 😊I new you weren’t as daft as you were making out😂 Great show and a lovely family. Didn’t see any snake bite stuff in your kit it’s a must for the kids and the misses 😊😊
Hola, saludos y bendiciones desde Arenillas, República del Ecuador, Sudamérica. Por favor compartir la información en el idioma español. Gracias y abrazos.
Now you know why mechanic’s don’t want you to watch and help,😂😂😂 watching the boys “Help” was priceless And the look on the girls faces going over the rough stuff 👍👍 Love ya work team🏆
Who puts out these tripods cameras on the outside and film them while driving? Plus the drones that provide a bird's eye view from above? If they do this on their own then that a great investment to take us with them in this trip it's truly a challenging thing to do for real
Holy! That’s quite the rig to be getting through the sand, have you considered a winching anchor to help out in the tough situations? Great that you added the tip on the opposite wheel nut threads 👌🏼 most Japanese made trucks are that way. Also a torque multiplier is a handy tool to carry, affordable & makes light work of the wheel nuts. Enjoy your travels 🍻
When you are getting a fire out, maybe use grey water in a bucket rather than fresh water. Maybe use a rope and pulley to get the tyre off and on. This is a great, laid back show!😃
would less tyre pressure help with the dunes just a general question not trying to be smart i know you are already running them a bit lower can see them bellying out
Another good video... Fire making tip: You need to stack your wood lower... The pyramid method is also my style, but stack it less "tidy" so the wood cross each other, as in the old game "chopsticks".. The fire lighters didn't even reach to the wood... You can put the lighter on an empty (beer) tin in the middle as well. You have a half-million-dollar rig, surely you can afford a Torque wrench, bro.. 😂 That tyre is stuffed, sidewall damage don't work with a plug. Far to much "open and close" flex happening... Less showering, more drinking water... Less is more, more or less😂😂😂 If you remove half of your dead weight from the truck and trailer, you will not get stuck less in sand or mud. But each one to his own, love your videos, very different angle... But shy with the drone, I see.... 🇿🇦
Just recently came across your channel, thanks for taking us along its been great. Question- at some stage could you do a video on the van and on the truck showing them in a bit more detail, thanks
Thanks for a wonderful video. It brought back great memories when we travelled the Simpson albeit west to east. As with any isolated outback area I bet the stars were amazing. The way the caravan was, at times, bouncing around I reckon the water transfer would have been useful. Will be looking to seeing future videos.
Though I prefer the beach ⛱ 🏄♂️🏄♀️🐬👣🌊 Your adventures in the desert 🏜 make me consider a trip to the desert. Thanks for sharing. 10:34 You definitely earned a Dad's Milk after that tyre. 13:35 Good thing the boys were ther to help. 💪
Oh wow i didnt know you guys were yanks you had me fooled until you both started saying "change the tyre out "thats an American thing but thats cool i just get a bit defensive as our auzzie culture slowly gets americanized so they understand but we risk loosing our beautiful culture and you guys are big mascots atm because of how great your youtubes are if you start saying " badass" im out of here lol
Awesome videos! Currently living vicariously through you guys. On another note, Try a different way of lifting those tires up to your spare carrier. Walk up to it on the opposite side you want facing out, lean over top it, and grab the holes in the rim face that is pointed away from you. Pull up while catching the top of the tire on your midsection (this works best if you have a belt on) and rotate it on your midsection until the correct face of the rim is pointed away from you and you are simply holding onto the rim while the bulk of the weight is being held by your hips. That is how we do it in the auto repair industry when changing tires on a vehicle that is on a 2 post lift. You can pick up way more weight with less harm to your back. Hope that helps!
Hi Cartwrights, love your videos. Just wondering if you were in Brooms Head 19 August, we were having a birthday party on the foreshore and saw a truck and caravan just like yours and everyone was looking at your setup and all were very jealous. lol
The best part of the video is when your son says "I can't my hands are gonna get dirty". Thank you for sharing your experience. Hamid from Laguna Beach CA.
New follower and love your channel ! On the tire repair try putting the plug in and twisting 200 or 300 degrees and pulling the tool out.. Might help and maybe not, I've done it that way 35 years. Sidewall's are a chore either way

A small boat trailer wind up winch above the spare tyre might be good :)

huge thanks for sharing your epic adventure folks !!!!!
I think when stuck on high sand roads, moving into the bush lane might be a better chance.
Hahaha this is true
