When I worry about wars, inflation, politics and the day of tomorrow I watch your videos and realize there’s another reality out there which makes me happy.
This reminds me of Phantine, my green bus from high school. It wasn’t as purrrrfect as what this bus has happening with it, but it was fun as hell. Called it the SinBin.
Hi dear Mic and Lori, So wonderfull to see the wiring is getting alolng . U real understand your feelings about the bleu on KONA. What I DO NOT understand is this. You paid for the color you both choose. Now that he collor is sprayed you are not satisfied. This means that the person who has the paint mixed has made a mistake. And not as he says: "But there still had to be varnish". I think you just asked for Single Stage Paint. And if the color had just been good, he came out so lightly. I think that those who made the mistake must replace it free of charge with the right paint why you asked. I myself am a sprayer of my profession, this was not necessary. You are two hunters who put each dollar in the car. Although I have to say I am really in love with that beautiful car of yours. Mic. Grab as much work as possible that you can do yourself. You are a handy guy who sometimes does not dare to tackle things with the result if you do it yourself. I was brought up in the Netherlands with by doing yourself, you only become wiser. This way it is good of you that you tackle the ELECRTRA yourself. The more you do yourself, that also saves costs. Go to a paint shop and ask if they can make the color .... and then put the voucher with your sprayer. I have to say, he can spray well, but tackling this error is not going so well. If I am wrong you can safely say it. I just want you to get along a bit for you. Living in a bus so many months is no fun. My hat off for Robert. That man really kept a word and helps Julie where he can, while he also has to run a case. He's really a hero. I really started to love you a bit. On you both. You work hard and then also mount those videos ..... I'll give it to you. The French say Chappau, and we say. VERY WELL DONE. I give everyone the warm greetings, and a big hug for you. My heroes.
Kia ora from New Zealand. Mike and Lori. Thanks for this update. Push hard for the colour change. You guys are the customer, and if the customer is not satisfied, then they should fix it. The colours do not match. Pleased you are safe and well. I was concerned for your well being when I found out about the fires. Really looking forward to your next vid. It's getting close to finished and you should be so proud of what you have achieved so far. No compromise. Stay safe.
Nice job! Note, using a little bit of baby powder or it's equivalent works great for pulling wires through it's casings. Man,, I love that color! Looks great!!👍😎
I'm a kind of simple animal and fairly easy to please. To my eyes, the color doesn't look startlingly different. With my cars, as long as the paint is good, I find that I am rarely ever (OK, never) spending any time sitting and staring at the car and looking at the color and when I am driving, which used to be 2K-3K miles a month, from where I sat in the car, I really couldn't even see the color. The color on your van looks great to me.
Love the wiring, so much better than the original. With all the money and hours you have invested in Kona, you are 100% right to not settle for anything less than exactly what you want.
I understand the frustration but to my eyes I really prefer the way it looks now. It looks lighter and a bit more vintage. The original blue is fine but it will be a it too contrasty witth the white in my opinion. Remember, that you are looking at sample, not the full paint of the VW. Cheers and good luck for the decision.
Mike, it's very inspiring to see how far your mechanical and technical skills have come over the duration of this project! Both you and Lori as champs! But as regards the paint match, Robert was quite clear before Dom painted it, that the color wasn't right. Regardless of who was at fault, the responsibility is with the shop to look after it, without any further charge to you two.
Hi Mike, Lori, & beautiful, adorable Lady Kona😳🥰🥰❤️❤️❤️!! How are you guys doing?? My friends & I love watching all the progress being made bringing Kona closer to completion. You all there at the shop are teaching us how all the equipment works in the bus, & you’re very knowledgeable & brilliant. It’s such a pleasure hanging out with you all, and seeing what everyone is up to in the shop each week. Coming here feels like coming home. We all love you guys so much! Lady Kona, huge hugs!! I’m wondering if there’s a toy of Kona that the shop can mass produce & sell. I’d definitely buy a few…
No way I would repaint what you have. It’s a perfect paint job and that is hard to find these days. Put it together and start enjoying it before you burn out on it. You will get used to the color and you will love all the complements you get, everywhere you go.
Kona is looking amazing, progress you have made is outstanding. Its like Dom said if you aint happy say something he is doing the right thing to let you know that. Keep it up your energy is giving me the drive to work on my Notchback.
We do most of our kombi restos in single stage, just like the factory. The colours are so much better than clear over base. Will last a lifetime if polished once a year.
Mitch, I know this probably is two years later after shooting this video but the battery wire lug you are using is kinda crap. I would recommend a post for your battery and just having a copper lug on the end of your wire that goes over the post for easy disconnects. You then can have a nut or wing nut holding it down to make it super secure along with your other items that need to be connected to your battery.
Buddy just love the the thought that you are getting so close to finish in this video looks great I’ve been thinking maybe a beetle but haven’t come across one yet that I like yet
When I restored, my first beetle, the colour choice was the single hardest decision to make. Everything else was procedural: fix this, replace that, Install, etc. no one has an opinion on a headlight assembly, but everyone has an opinion on a colour. You need the colour that hits you right in the gut, and in your case, only one particular shade of blue will do. I get it.
I have an idea for your struggle getting the brake cables through the tubes. Get some high strength braided fishing line and put a small piece of paper on the end. Start the line in a tube then suck it through using a vacume.
I know you want your perfect colour, but I love baby blue for this era of bus. My favourite is a baby blue frog eyed sprite. I hope it comes out as you want it, after so much time and effort.
From what I understand this bus was done and gone over a year ago. I wonder if these people understand how lucky they are to have Roberts shop to work in. I built my bus myself laying on the ground. Did all my own work including the paint.
hey didnt know if you checked yet but when you rotated your brakes around in the back but the wheel cyls are upside down and when you go to bleed out your system you will never get the air out
Man, the color changes over time and with exposure to the sun... it will lose its striking blue tone and become a not so intense blue. It will look beautiful day after day
Old friend it has been many moons, the trail has carried you well, but can you check on the rear break I think the plate or dust cover is to be inverted not the hole thing? and dont get me wrong but grease in the bearing always they call it packing the bearing, hope you are ok with this, great color reminds me of the ancestors, may they guide your way.
Soak that plastic light diffuser over night in hydrogen peroxide and it will remove a lot of the yellowing. Add some UV light to the process for even better results
With goal of choosing the color and provided paint card. Its a mistake on Doms part to get it right. It will bother you years after leaving southern California that the paint didn't come out right. 2 stage and single stage are 2 different processes. So fix it now and be happy.
Here en Chile we say: "Estan poniendo mucho calor!!" I hope you won't get into a serious argument with Robert over this after all the help you guys got from him. You are for a long time living on his terrain and using a lot of the shop's tools which would cost you a fortune if you would have to buy it yourselves. Already variius persons where 'send' to you to give their opinion, letting you know 'what' s wrong!?? Don't let the event go to waste by beiing stubborn and unwilling to compromise over such minor detail. You will have to see the endresult and the bus as a whole and completed! Now it looks you are just trying to get to prove you are in the right!
You should label the extra wire loop for the 3rd brake light, you never know how far down the line someone might want to work on this, imagine 3 or 4 owners later. :)
You have paid for certain outcome for the paintjob. They should do it as many times as it needs to be the result you initially paid for. When they were doing color matching and trying to speak their way out of it it raised red flags on me. I hope you get to the result you wanted. Hello. I feel you. I know you are not happy that especially color. Same with me. I especially wanted that kind of gold on rims for my 2014 Mini Cooper S (hard top). It was 1% off. I was STILL NOT happy every day when I looked at my green mini car with the wrong color of gold rims. The shop painter told me. You will get used to it. The painter was wrong. I can't accept it. I don't like to see it every day. But I sold it. I need a bigger vehicle (small SUV). It was not your fault. It was a painter was wrong. Follow your heart. You are the best 👌 👍. My shop painter did a good job to paint a black rims on my old camry steel rims. That was so easy, job. But especially color you want is not an easy job. Anyway. You be the best 👌 👍. Just follow your heart.
Thank you! Yeah we think it's pretty funny people say 'deal with it'.. easy to say when it's not your bus, money and years spent on a once and a lifetime project.. life too short to not get what you want and be happy :)
Take the yellow out of that dome lens by soaking it for 6 hrs in hydrogen peroxide and apply a black light outside the container. Shield the whole thing. Remove the dome lens, rinse with water. Lots of how-to video on YT.

@@MicBergsmaI understand your opinion, it's your bus and you and no one else have to like it, but if I could afford a Samba bus I would be so happy that I wouldn't care about the color. I live in Germany where buses are extremely expensive and rare. Unfortunately, upwards of 100,000 euros are normal here. Even for scrap buses you pay over 30,000 euros. I am restoring a VW T3 double cab myself. There is also a lot of money and time involved. So I can understand that very well

you were there watching the guy paint the van and you’re not happy with the color. It looks good to me.
Goodyear job m'y friend.😂

Thank you. I think you would feel differently if it was your bus and you're paying the bill
So I can understand that very well
I'm so sorry you're not happy with the color It was not as you expected hope that Dom will respray it with the correct color🙂
