Dom is an asshole, you should have seen this from the very first day you dealt with him, always trying to cut corners , blah blah. Cant see one positive from him, dont know why Robert keeps him, he tarnishes the name of Skinners!

Right from the first time that Dom came on the scene, l was not a fan of the guy. Didn’t know why at the time, but as time has gone on he has shown on many occasions how unprofessional he is. And to be treating anyone, let alone a lady such as Lori, as he did is not the action of a man, but a thoroughly nasty piece of work.
Bless you both for being bigger than he is, and it was great to see Lori smiling again toward the end of the video.

I will agree with you on Dom . Robert should probably cut ties with that guy . He would save a fortune on toilet paper at the shop and could probably replace him with a painter that gets it right on the first go round . He shouldn’t have talked to Lori like that I’m just glad he didn’t eat her . 😡

At 4.01 in the video it was good to see Lori with a smile. I have never shouted at a lady in my 40 years at work. I work a lot of Night Shifts and tempers can become frayed , the worst thing is not sorting out something at work at the end of a shift. Though if one of my colleagues was disrespectful to any of the girls at work l don't think l could tolerate that. So you take that lovely wee lassie out for a nice meal and let her know how much you love and appreciate her. ❤

Take a moment and put yourself in their shoes Dom, you wouldn’t have been happy either if you received a finished product like that and then you couldn’t get it right the second time?!
They are very right in addressing this issue with you.
Redirect your anger towards yourself and be a respectful man and apologize to them both.
Dom sucks. He has no work ethic, how many times did he blow you off for days or weeks. Sad Robert didn't manage him a bit better, but treating Lori like that is unacceptable. He is a lazy painter. The bus is looking amazing, your work is perfect. So happy for you.

Guys I'm horrified watching that slovenly oaf doing paintwork on your van , I own a bodyshop of 36 years, if you were in UK I would paint it for free just because I feel your frustration ❤

What an embarrassment for the shop! Dom might have been good back in the day but he is useless now, this was obvious from day one with the paint colour, his pitiful and frankly rude time keeping / not bothering to turn up and inability to accept his work is crap, the aggression is from embarrassment and shortcomings, does he think that if you don’t look first you won’t notice the error, he should retire from painting and concentrate on his manners and diet.

So sorry that you and Lori were put into the situation to have to deal with someone like Dom. He's a bully and a know-it-all that can never admit any faults. If he was doing the job for himself, he would get it "good enough" and call it perfect. He's not used to dealing with a perfectionist. You know how you want it to be and you're not willing to compromise, nor should you when you're paying for it to be done properly. Hopefully you are done dealing with him.

MICK HERE, when you first introduced us to Dom I said to myself OH NO bad idea! A painter has to be sort of fit and flexible. Also he is lazy and cuts corners because he believes he is so good. He initially got pissed with all your yellow stickers I bet then he realized he is painting 3 times now and that all will see this in the videos that he has been bragging to his buddies about. He is a fool if he believes that you have no right to complain or even ask questions.

I’ve worked with guys like Dom, and their misery is entirely of their own making.
You can always tell the quality of a craftsman by how they take care of themselves, and it’s obvious he doesn’t.
I wouldn’t hire him to mow my lawn, much less spray paint on a ground-up restoration of a VW bus.
The bus is looking great. It’s sad that Dom put such a stain on an otherwise awesome experience you’ve shared with us so far.

I have bled a lot of brakes and y’all are not doing it right. Someone needs to pump up and hold the brake pedal while someone else opens and closes the bleeder valve at each wheel. Also, you should always bleed the rear brakes first.

I absolutely hate what y'all went through with Dom. I don't care if he's doing a job for free or for a million dollars, he should have gotten things right so long ago. Then to yell at Lori... Like you said, you cannot help that the two of y'all could see problems in the job. You are supposed to be happy with the work, not "Meh, guess it'll work."

Dom really doesn't care about the painting. I (we) don't know details about what was negociated with Mic, but, after that series, he (Dom) won't never get new clients, he doesn't deserve.
After he painted the body, he talks so much so we caught him saying he paints for free because he owes Robert a favor… WHAT!!! so all labor $$ going to Robert’s pocket, got us very mad 😑 so that’s why he is not careful with paint job… waste our time and money big time… not cool what Robert did to us 👎🏼👎🏼

Hi kidda don't let Dom see 23.40 cos Lori is doing a better job than him, in my opinion he has never been any good, he could not be bothered to turn up when you first started doing paint. I do not like people who keep telling you how good they are and what they can do they always let you down. Robert would do well to not use him as people will see this channel and think not go there in case they use Dom and my job will be as bad. You and Lori are fantastic together. love the channel. you are doing a great job on the bus, spect your going to put in a cotton wool lined box when its done !!! whatever you do don't damage the paintwork. Sorry to hear about your trouble with Dom and Lori. At the least Dom needs to apologize to her face to face, and be sincere about it. Anyone can loose their cool in moments of stress. The honorable man owns up to it and rectifies it as soon as possible. Robert needs to also have a chat with him regarding his poor performance, paint-wise, and temper-wise. Glad you guys are moving on.

@@MicBergsma from what we've seen, he's probably painted about 20 vehicles but has had to repaint those 20 vehicles 44,000 times altogether to fix all of the mistakes

I'm not sure why Robert stuck you with Dom. To yell at a customer for noticing something is wrong isn't cool. Lori seems so nice too.
he did it to pocket money. we still pay shop for paint labor .. he doesn't pay Dom..
Painting a car is not easy . But when i say i do it , then i have to do the job right . Dom must understand how much time and money you spend on this project , away from home for more than 20 month .Living in an old Bulli . And yelling at people isn´t the right way .

Bus looks great! Paint work is always stressful... On my last paint job I was really upset with my painter! Lots of issues = "blushing," solvent pops, and runs. I was the painter 😂.

I want to tell something to Lori.
Lori, you didn't fault or blame. You are a wonderful, hard-working, intelligent woman and amazing person loyal to your husband. Dom is idiotic and wrongful to yell at you. Dom should take responsibility for checking the painting tools to clean before starting your bus to paint and also examine the color before asking you and your husband to see check it.
Don't let it, Dom, get you. You got many support and a fans with your husband. I'm sure many a fans have wished you and your husband a happily family together with a beauty bus in Hawaii.

I have watched the bus project from the beginning and it started so positively and then has gradually gone down hill over time.

I'm sorry Mic... I know you and Lori have lived in Texas. You know how Texans feel about other men disrespecting our wives. Dom should feel lucky he didn't yell and be rude to my wife. Robert needs to think very hard about whether he should keep Dom on or replace him. That kind of behavior reflects badly on the shop as a whole. Especially, when his actions and conversations are captured on video and broadcasted on UA-cam. Dom's unprofessional attitude aside, I love watching your progress. I can't wait for the final reveal... It's going to be epic!

I get now why these episodes about the paint and you being frustrated are how they are. Dom just does not care, he thinks it is good enough for a old car and that is as far as his thought process goes. I bet his car gets the same treatment. His yelling at Lori is not acceptable in any way and if I were Robert he would be banned from the shop completely. Dom is costing Robert and you time and money. I have dealt with people like him in the car world in the past and they never change.

I wouldn’t let Dom paint my son’s wagon. He’s definitely a maaco painter and that’s where he should stay.
I've only ever sprayed paint out of rattle cans, so with all due respect, I pegged Mr. Dom as a half asser when you first got him working on Kona. Nothing but excuses and delays since. I feel for you, it's too bad Eddie couldn't have painted it.

Its a tough spot Mitch, one wants to protect ones partner and yet cannot. I truly understand that place, and I'm so sorry for both you and Dom is just clearly a lazy individual, who doesn't like being called out when he fails to preform. You both are patient and keep your sense of humor so two thumbs way way up to you and Lori, love the bus, and the video. I don't favor the color, but it does look great. The shop asked him to do it. They were scrambling, even after my bus was there for so long they didn't have a proper plan to paint the bus.. yep. And him and Robert made some trade deal .. Dom doesn't get paid.. we still pay the shop though .. take that all in

Why? There's nothing to align other than toe. The tape measure doesn't lie. Sure, you can take that to a "specialist" where a newbie is going to screw it up and scratch you car

Sorry to be the bad news barer, but with all due respect and I have a lot of respect for the effort you put into restoring this vehicle, if you want it to last you work in a completely different way.
You do not use BNDO at all especially not on the top and around the engine bay. BONDO is susceptive to temperature and it is inflexible material, especially when it ages.
For proper result you use hammers, dollies and files. Where the body is double skinned best to fill it with tin. True this is much more work but it will last almost definitely.
With the first ding the BONDO will most likely peel off. Than rust starts.
Another point is to complete all drilling, fitting etc. prior to painting. It you drill afterwards you need to take your time to repair the pain damage before you proceed with assembly. This is particularllay important in places where you use grommets etc.
Before painting you need to use materials like seam sealers etc. apply anti chip in all areas prone to stone chipping etc. After painting you need to thoroughly rust proof the vehicle, using different materials in different parts of the vehicle such as Inner Cavity Wax etc.
Bear in mind a lot of items you sprayed, especially with can spry, like locks, hinges etc. should have been sand blasted and electro coated - galvanizing, nickel plating etc.
All the above calls for a lot of work, but, from experience, in the long run it pays as it brings the vehicle to manufacturer’s standards and above.

I'm having the same issue as you with adjusting the gear lever. The only difference is that I have a T2 Kombi 1974 with 1800 Gearbox. Love the vlog and waiting in anticipation to see how yo resolve the gear lever issue.
I heard a lot of comments on adjusting the bolts holding the gear lever to the floor. I shunned them. The last hope was to adjust them, low and behold! It worked!

Lori is such a wonderful woman, wife and business partner. Living in a van for month after month in all sorts of weather conditions and working along side you is a testament to her love and affection for you. What a team. I’m sorry to hear of Dom’s rant. Targeting Lori is just wrong on so many levels. I found his behavior, demeanor and commitment throughout the paint job to be the polar opposite of yours. It’s so personal to you and Lori, but just a part-time gig for him. You could see the conflict building for a while. As the project is concluding at the shop, I’m certain everyone at the shop is ready for it to conclude as much as you want to be done. I have such respect for you and Lori, the work ethic the two of you have and mostly what a great relationship you both have. You guys have something special. Love your videos.

All i can say is 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬, but i have to calm myself with dealing with a person like Dom now that his true colors came out, or lack there of. At least you never have to deal with him ever again. Forgive, i suppose so your both of yours sake but never have to deal with again.

... the attitude shown by the painter was pretty poor, deserving of a slap. I guess the slap will come in the form of damage to future business for him, he's been unprofessional and a liability throughout.
It's good you have a peaceful nature, Mic. I personally would not have been so able to control myself at what Dom did. He's frustrated, you and Lori are frustrated, and your style is in the long run a better one than mine would have been.
