    My father recently passed away and I found his pipe gear amongst his belongings. I’m going to fill a bowl or two in his memory and hope to start my piping journey. RIP Thor Dickson. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience, this advice this has been a God send. All the best from Scotland. GD

    My father gifted me one of his used pipes after that he saw how many cigarettes i smoke.
    He calls me everyday to ask.
    Since tuesday morning i didn't even saw a cigarette, let alone not inhaling tiny bit of any smoke.
    I'm eating like i should now, i don't feel that nicotine wore-off effect like you do with cigarettes as they are instant hit with all the additives.
    I very much like the nicotine slow come up and slow comedown.
    I really feel that my lungs are much more comfortable.
    And now i am able to consider tobacco as a nature gift. Before, when smoking cigarettes, its seemed to be unlogic because of the nasty and dirty smoke, taste and effect of the cigarette.
    I want to thank my father.
    Will never ever forget that Tuesday morning.
    Thank you Muttnchop for your videos and your help.
    Respect.

    Thank you so much for your videos! They have completely helped be go from a frustrated beginner piper, to a very happy piper who now enjoys the pleasures of smoking a pipe and the amazing effect pipe smoking has had on my life. I know that smoking can lead to various outcomes concerning health, but I honestly feel the quality of my life has improved so much just by taking some time to enjoy pipe smoking.... I will never smoke a cigarette again in my life.....cigarette provide a fleeting fix, but smoking a pipe allows me to relax.

    Had originally started out with cigarettes but I always wanted to try my hand at pipe smoking. Recently i had bought my first pipe even before discovering your channel, a nice churchwarden pipe as I heard they were a good starter due to its length. I will just say my first bowl did not go well with packing and lighting, and as I wasn't used to pipe smoking I inhaled much too deeply. But after digging around on more information I stumbled across someone who reccomended your channel to learn more, and I am so glad I decided to look into you. Really great video and can't wait to learn more.

    Hello! I've been a follower of this channel for a while now, but haven't started pipe-smoking since recently and I have a suggestion: I wouldn't recommend to buy a barrell pipe, because, at least where I live, those pipes aren't so cheap. I would recommend buying a used pipe, since in most thrift shops or flea markets you can find ones for much less. Or, a thing I learned recently: ask people that you know if they happen to have some pipes laying around: I've been surprised with how many people here in Italy have the pipes of their grandpas or even great-grandads. Some may be willing to gift you with some of those pipes, while others may want to keep them as souvenirs. It's worth a try: in my opinion, it's better to have someone use and enjoy such an object, instead of having it stand there, appreciated by noone.
    Also, for the thrift shop piece: be sure to watch carefully for cracks, as it happened to me to buy some pipes without checking properly. The best trick I use now is to knock on the bowl, and you will immediately hear a rattling sound, if the pipe is cracked. If the stem is broken, that is less of a concern in my opinion, since replacing it is easy.
    Happy pipe smoking everyone!

    Although I've smoked cigarettes and cigars for a long time now (30+ years), the thought of trying a pipe has always been at the back of my mind. Just before Christmas, a friend of mine asked what I'd like so I suggested a pipe-nothing expensive, just a basic pipe and a few bits and pieces (along with tobacco of course). I watched a lot of your uploads before going anywhere near it with a match and I have followed all your advice and tips on how to get the best from one. I'm happy to report that I'm having a wonderful smoking experience and have taken to it very quickly thanks to your videos. I find it so much more satisfying and relaxing than other means of smoking and much more of a sense of quality over quantity. So relaxing to enjoy a bowl or two of an evening with a beer or a glass of good red. Very best wishes to you and your family from here in the UK.

    Another great video sir!
    When I first started smoking it was with aromatics and I gradually moved away to English blends, which I find I prefer more, not that I still don't enjoy a bowl of an aromatic blend every now and then, but I really have to be in the mood for it now - also I tend to smoke an aromatic in a certain pipe. My first tool was the Czech tri-tool and I still have it, comes in quite handy, I also have the simple tamper at one end and shovel at the other end tool as well. I use both types of the pipe cleaners you showed, but I sometimes have problems with the tapered ones in some of my pipes, what with certain shapes of pipes and the hole sizes too, so I also keep on hand a pack of the regular cleaners as well.

    Hey MuttunChop, amazing channel.
    Thank you for your videos.
    I started pipe smoking in 2007 and stopped in 2009, 2010.
    I pretty much had only one really nice Stanwell pipe and a bunch of useless other ones. Many cheap corn cobs and ebay pipes I no longer have, because I either lost them or threw them out.
    I finally upgraded to the Stanwell and used it religiously, several times a day for years.
    I still have it but it needs to be reamed, cleaned, and a new stem.
    I wanted to get back into pipe smoking because of your videos and I was wondering if you could put together a list of recommended nice, higher end, decent pipes as well as delicious tobacco blends for a returning intermediate-ish (advanced newbie) smoker.
    I know how to pack, light, clean, maintain, etc. I just want some recommendation on pipes and tobacco, as well as the nicest pipe lighter I can buy.
    Thank you so much!

I found it to be pleasent, yet mind altering, a slight buzz was induced for a little while. My first pipe is a Vencenzio Mignon for $70.

    As a new smoker thanks for your videos. Great info.
    I watched one of your older vids on filters. You covered 9mm and balsa wood. Can you do another and cover 6mm and the distillator that Brigham uses? Mostly curious whether to settle on 9mm or 6mm? Again how many smokes per? Do you leave it out to dry before using again? Does flipping it extend life especially for 6mm, if you push a pipe cleaner through a 6mm is it ruined? Etc.

    Hey MuttnChop. I'm knew to pipe smoking. Your videos are a great help! Idk what your vocation is, but I think you would make a great teacher.
    My question is, what about a $15 pipe? I purchase a fifteen dollar pipe and some tobacco about three weeks ago, but I haven't gotten the hang of things yet. I very rarely taste my tobacco, but even then my pipe usually goes out so I don't get to enjoy. I said on another video that I have been scraping off my carbon build-up, and my technique and packing are also flawed. But I'm also wondering if some of this is just that I have a cheap pipe.

      I have been watching and learning from many of your videos already. Since I only purchased 2 pipes, that won't leave me with enough downtime for them to rest between use days, so I am ordering two of the 10-pack Missouri Meerschaum seconds to get me enough pipes so that they have enough time to rest and dry out between uses and allow time to thoroughly dry between cleanings.

    I’m a fairly experienced cigar smoker. Not a fan of flavored cigars like acids. and I really like habanos and Maduro cigars as well as Connecticut blends. Camacho, Perdomo, Micaliffe are some of my favorites.
    Is English pipe tobacco really much harsher or full flavor than typical premium cigars?

    Lots of people suggest having several pipes to smoke from. Given your focus on economy when starting out, is this necessary or is it good enough to keep smoking out of 1 pipe? I started about a month ago and I enjoy it so far. When I should start thinking about getting a few more pipes and what kinds of pipes would you suggest?

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  6 років тому +1

      whoisjohngalt11 - Yes you should have at least 3 pipes, and if you are on a budget I would suggest 3 Corn cob pipes from Missouri meerschaum, they are high quality pipe but inexpensive, after a while and when you can afford it you might think about getting some Briar pipes, smokingpipes.com has a huge selection of quality pipes, I would look at Savinelli, or chacom, to start, they have quality pipes at all price levels from $55.00 to $1,500.00 dollars. 👍👍👍

    I'm a woman who just started smoking pipe. Are there pipes that are considered more feminine? I guess it's a bit eccentric for a woman to smoke a pipe but Hell, I guess I'm a weirdo but pipe smoke has always smelled great to me. I enjoy captain Black's satchels of Cavendish. I'm soon to purchase my first pipe the beginning of January. Before I purchase one and start the hobby, I have a question. Will smoking multiple blends in one pipe conflict with the taste of the pipe? Will it "ghost"? I'm looking to purchase three brands: dunhill Early morning, Eileen's Dream, and Autmn Evening. Just wondering if the flavors of the tobacco would conflict with one another after I've smoked one for a while.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  6 років тому

      Joshua Leboeuf - Yes, there is always a chance of Ghosting when multiple blends are used especially Aromatic blends, my suggestion if you can afford it purchase 2 pipes in the beginning if you are confident you will be smoking a pipe for awhile. Use one for Aromatics, the other for non aromatics. 👍👍👍

    Went to the Tobacco shop today and bought my essentials and just smoked my first bowl of Cornell&Diehl Autumn Evening going by what the Proprietor recommended for a Cherry. I really don't know enough to comment Yes I enjoyed it but I couldn't taste anything but the smoke. My wife loved the smell though that's a big plus. I had to lite my pipe about six times (Good or Bad?) I have some left unused at the base I'm just going to pack some new on top right or wrong. Second bowl went much better using the Breath method although the bowl got hot

      No they are not. And if you're new to the pipe smoking community, I'd go for a corncob pipe as your first pipe. Basket pipes have gone up in price since this video was made. Cobs go for between $7 and $35, but you're fine with a $7 cob to start.

      Templar Knight - No, No, you are good, if I said $200.00 I’m sorry for the misleading info, $80.00 is about right, the average is $60.00. Now watch a group of videos I have done called “Just the Basics” follow my instruction, smoke your pipe, if you like it, then you can spend $200.00 if not, your only out $80.00. 👍👍👍

      Lycosa - Yes I do know that, at the time it took me 5 or 6 takes to create an acceptable video, I knew I should have called it by its proper name when I reviewed the video, but other then that it wasn’t a bad take, so instead of taking the chance of screwing up 5 more takes, I just went with tri-tamper. 👍👍👍

      @@MuttnchopPiper Yeah definitely not worth doing tons of takes on the video. Tri tamper ain't a bad name for it. I just thought ''hmm, muttnchop probably knows that it's also called the czech tool..'' and yep! I was right.

      Muttnchop, I got a pipe today. I'm not sure its wood, but it looks like wood. I think its some kind of plastic that doesnt melt. The pipe is temporary for now. I also got some tobaccoo today and smoke my first pipe today. I enjoy all of it. I'm not a fan of this tobaccoo i have though. It is called Captain Black Gold. I guess now I need to find what I like. Thanks again. This is just an update buddy. :)

      Muttnchop Piper - My smoke experience was not flavorful thats for sure, I've got some work to do. I get an old nasty cigarette taste. I get a tiny ash taste.

      Kenneth O'Gorman - I hate to tell you this but you have started out smoking a pipe in the worst way possible, a pipe that might be plastic, and substandard pipe tobacco will deliver hot, ashy taste every time. When possible go to pipes and cigars.com they have a lot of inexpensive pipes, and purchase some Frog Morton on the town pipe tobacco, you will see you're smoking experience improve greatly 👍👍👍

      Thank you so much for the detailed advice. I read it this morning and said okay I'm going to buy this Frog Morton stuff. Now I feel guilty, because I found a store. Of course, I might have actually lucked out and got good stuff. It is an old timey newspaper, book, and magazine store. They have a "tobaccanist" they call him who mix there own private blends of tobaccos. I couldnt resist. I bought two different blends. One is Cherry Cavendish, and the other is called "Rocky Mountain Blend". These seem very rich in smell, I love the way they smell. I think they just might be premium. I have details on this if your interested. They also have pipes. This one is all wood. It is H.I.S. Italy pipe. They had over a 100 cigars, and about 10 blends of tobacco. A selection of probably 30 pipes. 1000's of books. Hopefully I'm going a little bit better direction here even though im not right in tact with your videos. Let me know. Oh and I will be still ordering Frog Mortons. :) Is this youtube the best way to interact with you?

    Why does a person need more than one pipe? Do people just like to collect them for collecting’s sake? Or do you need a different pipe for each tobacco blend? I don’t get it.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  4 роки тому +2

      Brett Agostini - when you smoke a pipe the combustion causes moisture to form in the bowl that settles in the heel (bottom of the pipe) if you continue to smoke that one pipe the tobacco becomes soured causing the taste of the tobacco to be acidic tasting. You can smoke one pipe about 3 times during the day, but after that you need to clean the bowl of all tobacco and ash then let it dry for a minimum of 24 hours. If you have 2 pipes, you can smoke one while the other one drys out.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  7 років тому

      Mr Cat approves - they are if you know how to control them, for someone who has no idea what to expect when they first light up a pipe, corn cobs have their own failures, like if it gets to hot it can crack or blow out fairly easy. I recommend getting a basket pipe made of briar to learn with, then pick up a couple of cobs once you have learned to control the heat in the bowl. 👍👍👍

    I do not agree with the barrel pipe suggestion. My barrel pipe is the only pipe I regret. I would suggest buying either a new corncob or used Irish second on eBay for less than $50.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  8 років тому

      A corncob is a good way to go except for the negative connotation, for most new pipe smokers they are concerned that they may be ridiculed for smoking a pipe, unless they keep it completely private, smoking a basket briar gives their decision legitimacy, if someone ask to see their pipe. Even me being a 30 year veteran of pipe smoking, smoking my Cob, I get this comment more then any other "Hay Frosty where is your top hat and broom" for a new pipe smoker, that might end their quest to learn our hobby. 😄😄👍

      +Muttnchop Piper I started with the corncob pipe at the age of 23 and when I found out is in today's society it doesn't matter whether you smoke a basket pipe or corncob pipe pipe smoking is so rare that people are going to try to pressure you into cigarettes or ridiculed you just for smoking a pipe

      +anthony landreth I am 54 years old, it's possible that I am out of touch with today's youth, I am not saying that you are wrong, and I didn't mean any disrespect to you, starting out with a cob is perfectly fine but with a cob, you have more of a chance of a burn out, and cleaning and care is different then that of a briar, my approach is to start out with a low cost briar, then move to a cob once you know how to control the heat trough filling, lighting, and smoking with a rhythm, just old fashioned I guess. 👍

    • @ghoppa112
      @ghoppa112 8 років тому

      +Muttnchop Piper there is videos out there that will teach you how to take care of a cob I personally know someone who's had the same cob for 15 years and it looks brand-new because they know how to take care of it and they teach people how to take care of them much like any pipe depends on how you treat if you treat it Bad then you're going to get bad results if you treat it good you going to get good results when I started smoking I had all my friends tell me pretty much you need to start smoking cigarettes forget the pipes forget cigars cigarettes are the way to go and that's pretty much where the culture of America has gotten cigarettes is it as far as tobacco goes and then you have people like us who know the joys of tobacco and we are a dying breed

      Bud Wiser - True, but what kind of quality Briar are you getting at $ 10.00 or less, it won't be good, and yes I do know you can get Corn Cobs really cheap, but I advise people to start out with a Briar pipe while they are learning. 👍👍👍

    • @Bwiser63
      @Bwiser63 7 років тому

      Muttnchop Pipe you said to purchase the most inexpensive pipe you can buy incase you don't like it and I would much rather pay 10$ on a pipe than 25 to 30$ to figure this out. I like corncob pipes and I bought a beautiful new Meecham at eBay for 15$. I dig with your videos I'm just saying a person could buy a new pipe that looks nice and be smoked for yrs cheaper than 25 or 30 $. I know there's very expensive pipes out there but 35 $ would be kind of expensive for me and I own a few and they are very nice.

    • @MuttnchopPiper
      @MuttnchopPiper  7 років тому +3

      Bud Wiser - true, but as a general rule for the public at large I feel $25 to $35 dollars is a fair price for a somewhat quality briar. You are an exception, because you did some extra research, you looked at several different sights I suppose, including e-bay, and found quality pipes for less then the price range I specified. Most new pipe smokers don't want to do that extra work, they want to know where and how much. Now I know all they have to do is go to e-bay and look at the pipes they have for sale there, but they have no knowledge of the quality aspect of a briar pipe, so they see a Briar pipe sold on e-bay for $10.00, they buy it, and smoke it for 6 or 7 times then it burns out on them, or cracks because the quality was cheap. I know what your saying, and I agree, but for more experienced pipe smokers. Once you purchase a quality pipe and have learned how to smoke a pipe and decide you enjoy it, then that person will most likely take the time to investigate where they can get good pipes at low prices. 👍👍👍
