Appreciate your video and suggestions, I love straight Virginias.
I’ll add… make sure the tobacco is dry. There’s been too many times I’ve tried to smoke a blend and it was too damp.
About pipe choice, a long, tall pipe is key. So is a thinish wall pipe. I’m able to judge how hot the pipe is on a thin walled pipe versus something with a thick wall.
Favorites - Opening Night, Mac Baren Virginia Flake (not HH), and Peterson Flake.
    Pipe on!

New piper here and this video was very helpful! Started with a Brigham Alginquin 203 and Sutliff 507 flakes. The first few smokes were tricky to get used to especially since most information out there discusses packing ribbon cut tobacco. Thanks for the help!

Glad I could help! Yeah, there’s not a whole lot on how to pack the various other types of cut; but at the end of the day…just crumble it or cut it, stuff it, and puff it!

Thanks Caleb! I have been having a hard time with Virginia's, mostly consistency of a pleasant experience. The packing and tamping have made a world of difference. I have been smoking Virginia's in a Savinelli Clark so I had been using the long stem. I think the sipping technique can apply to strong Burley's as well. Anyway, thanks for the tips!

🙏🏻 you’re welcome. A little bit of practice and patience can change the whole experience with the VAs! They’re my most common blend now; and I can now get a good, enjoyable smoke in just about any style of pipe with them.

If I castrate a bull and he no longer performs his “role” as a bull does that mean it is a she now? The idea that gender is defined by “roles” or actions in society instead of biology is abandonment of rational intelligence. If I dress myself up to look like a car and sit in the garage making sounds like a vehicle does that make me a car? The roles of men and women can change over time, but their essence stays the same regardless of their roles. A man can now be a nurse for instance, but he is still a man. Men and women are defined by their biology only. A man in a dress is no more of a woman than a man dressed up as a car sitting in the garage is a car. Whoever thought we would ever need to discuss this? 🙄

@@tobaccospipesandmore7762 Indeed...the level of insanity it takes to be having this as a serious public discussion is baffling. I never really thought mental illness and delusion would be this communicable, and spread like wildfire; even though the Bible talks about it. Guess we know now, lol.

@@jonahzsong The Oxford Etymological Dictionary of the English Language of 1882 defined gender as kind, breed, sex, derived from the Latin ablative case of genus, like genere natus, which refers to birth. Later in the 1970s feminist scholars adopted the term gender as way of distinguishing "socially constructed" aspects of male-female differences (gender) from "biologically determined" aspects (sex). I’m not sure what you are referring to?

One of my first pipe experiences was GL Pease "Virginia Cream" in an unfiltered Cob. Wow, burned my tongue, tasted like a harsh cigarette and totally turned me off.
Had a proper mild English blend later on in a briar and it was like: "Oh! This is wonderful!"
So I don't dabble in Virginia blends these days. Perhaps I should expand.

I find that I have a similar experience with any virginia's sporting heavy toppings or casings; something about the sugar content/chemical ph or something maybe?

Haha i chooched through a big sample bag of LJ Perettis 150th Flake and while it tasted good and well aged i did burn my tongue quite a bit. There is def a slow way you need to smoke VAs. I need to give that 150th another try and slow it down a lot more. Some of that will have to do with my packing too.

That struggle is REAL, lol. That's the problem with some VA's; they're so good, but it's almost a perpetual state of tongue bite as long as you're smoking them.

A flake seems like it should be as natural as possible.

Yeah, the tobacco (virginina's) have enough character of their own that they need very little outside help. Additives, in my opinion, can sometimes taint a really great leaf...or are simply being used to cover up inferior leaf.
