WOW, that was indeed a rollercoaster. I'm sorry to hear you had to go through all of that, but at the same time, congrats on the grail! A worthy grail. I adore the Navtimer too.
I really hope you will do an unboxing when you get it back. I'm looking forward to seeing you happy and also the work Brietling did. Great honest video, thank you for sharing.
Best regards,
TGV
Hey buddy. I will surely film the unboxing once I get it back to share. Appreciate you tuning in. I have more Navitimer content coming so stay tuned. I know you’ve owned a few Navitimers including the current one you own, the COSMONAUTE. I almost went with the Cosmobaute but it was a bit too “outside the box” considering I wanted a more contemporary and easier to read model. I decided against the stick indicies because that’s the most common. So I went with the middle being an Avg. Joe and all, it’s a position I’m very comfortable with. 😂👍
Ciao my friend and I hope we can meet up one day for a coffee ☕️ sometime. We can wear our Navitimers like the Members Only jackets of the 80s. 😂
Well that pretty much scared me straight, no expensive watches from ebay for me.
Dang man thanks for sharing this has onlu confirmed one thing for me, I won’t buy a watch like this from eBay I have always been Leary of eBay and you just confirmed my hesitancy using them. Sorry about the hassle man but you are getting a fantastic watch and at the end of the day near 50 percent off retail. And I guess the other lesson I get from this, when you buy a used luxury watch have the service fee saved up as well just in case it’s needed. Great video
Hey mate. Yeah, it was a bit of an adventure but at the end of the day, I would’ve sent whatever watch I bought to service because I wanted a mint, like new watch. So at the end of the day, I’m underwater but because I’ll have this for many years, I plan to be ahead if I ever decide to sell.
Hey Joe, I'm really sorry that you had to endure this rollercoaster ride. I have to say that you are the kindest hearted gentleman and handled this situation in the most generous, gentlemanlike, and with the utmost character. The additional cost is always hard to swallow, but you choose the correct path, and now you will have your grail watch in like brand new condition. I wish you enjoy it for many years to come in good health. This world needs more average Joes... God bless, brother.
God bless buddy and thank you.
Well if nothing else, that watch has one hell of a story, which on the positive side makes it 100% "your watch" and your journey with it started from day one of owning it.
Im glad you bit the bullet and sent it to Breitling to have it put right. That was the only correct path!
As for your attempt at the DIY "fix" 😂
FYI tiny screwdrivers + poking devices + a little too much caffeine + " how hard can it be?" = not a good set of stablemates!! 😂
In other words. What Jan said hehe.
Excellent and honest video mate....
Hey brother, Kudos to you for staying the course and not tapping out. Like you, I think these older Navitimers are really beautiful timepieces. For me, the amount of money you invested is well worth the return. It's unfortunate you had to go through some grief but having a restoration done by Breitling is a best case scenario. All being well, you will have a jaw dropping timepiece . I'm looking forward to seeing the final result. Take care man! ❤
Thanks so much buddy. That makes me feel better. I’ll make sure to read this to my wife. 😂 Just kidding. She’s been a rockstar through this and told me to go all the way.
@@AvgJoeWatchReviews 🤣That's great to hear. Being you grail watch it's absolutely worth it. I got a sweet deal on my Seamaster Pro 300. It's a 2007 and at some point I'll be giving it the full spa treatment as well. It's a keeper
I think you acknowledged it in the comments, but not the best decision to work on a $4k Breitling, a chronograph movement (one of the most complicated complications), with little watchmaking experience. I know next to nothing about mechanical movements, but I know enough that I shouldn't start tinkering with Rolexes or Omegas, even the time-only movements. I don't know why the Breitling service at the end is "a turn for the worse". After all the damage, "doing it right" has its cost, which I think is largely fair
Joe, whatever decision you make for yourself ultimately is the right thing for you. I'm grateful to you for sharing. Personally, as soon as I saw those defects that presumably the seller hadn't 'advertised' I would have sent back for a refund.
Matty! Hey bud. With hindsight being 20/20, sending it back would’ve been the better option. However, I didn’t know I had to replace the dial nor could I have imagined I would have broken the movement by fixing a pusher. I have too much leeway to the seller but he did offer to take it back so this is all on me.
I’m not entirely clear on what all they do, but the takeaway for me was to be weary of eBay’s Authenticity service. I mean, I guess it was authentic…..but that dial looked atrocious! I guess they have no idea of the Watch condition disclosed/discussed, and simply verify if the item is genuine?
They just check if the item is genuine. They do no checks of condition or if the description matches the item. I opened the case back and it’s definitely legit but I totally get the hesitation from people considering they could do more to protect the buyer. This is all on me, which is why I protected the seller from any liability. The butcher shop that serviced this watch prior to me receiving, they deserve the heat.
Sorry to hear about the problems. I recently had a similar issue but all's well that ends well. You are much braver tham I am trying to work on a watch in that price range.
You say brave, is say stupid. 😂 Either way, I will be getting my watch in about week finally! I heard about your Rolex horror story. You’re right though, all’s well that ends well.
It is good to show these stories, you have warned people what can happen, but also shown how a good result can be achieved with some communication 👍 . I hope you enjoy your watch for many years!
Thank you. It’s a bit of a PSA but a transparent journal of my journey. I’m humbled I can share this with the world, both the good and bad.
Thanks I bought Seiko's and Citizens my budget is alot less than yours 75% of the watches I bought work and fit description and picture so now I feel confident about getting watches repaired professionally!! It's nice to know I'm not the only one but lesson learned!
Yes!!! Never take shortcuts with your watches as you’ll end up paying to fix the problems from these watch butchers.
Crazy situation. Well your watch now has an interesting back story!
Yes sir. Plus it’s going to look brand new! So at the end of the day, I’m excited to get it back. Stay tuned, I will be unboxing it on the channel as soon as it comes back.
Thanks for your honest account... a bit of a roller coaster ride for you, BUT it going to be one hell of a watch sir... congrats 👍
Thank you sir. I look forward to the finished product.
Moral of the story, and it’s an old one, AVOID eBay when buying anything but junk.
All in your not in to bad for the watch congrats bud !
Thanks bro. I hope so. 😂
Yikes! The Navi is so iconic well worth it.
Sorry for what you've gone through, I blame you for not sending the watch back immediately. You should have opened a not as described case. We sometimes let our emotions becloud our reasoning. I have gone through this before and never again. Sorry once again.
I blame myself as well. I’m definitely to blame here. But it’s a lesson learned. An expensive one.
Great Grail)))
Thanks buddy.
Stoll & Co, who does the “authentications”, is an absolute joke and nightmare of a company. They damaged a watch that I sold and said it arrived there that way. Fortunately, I took a video of the watch at all angles and me placing it in the box at the post office and shipping it. eBay paid for the repairs for the customer and refunded all of my seller fees. Stoll & co also lied about being a Cartier service center. I’ll be making a video soon.
Please tag me or send a link to that video. I’d like to see it. Thanks for sharing.
@@AvgJoeWatchReviews I will… they are a total nightmare
@@sugmasigma thanks bro!
Great video.
Thanks buddy.
What a journey. 😮 ❤
Yea sir. But in the end, it’ll be worth it.
In case you had purchased a new one in the store and walk out the door with 10K less in your wallet, and yes, the moment you walk out of that store, now you own a second hand one. In other words, you are still ok.
That’s an awesome way of looking at it. Thanks for sharing.
Fuuuuck, still you've got the watch you want, in the configuration you want, keep it amd enjoy it.
At the end of the day, I’ll be happy once I get it back. This will all be forgotten and a lesson learned.
Any update on the Navitimer back from service?
Yes… will be working on that video soon. I do have it back and have been enjoying it. Stay tuned.
