- Few creatives right now are as in tune with contemporary culture as Rhuigi Villaseñor. The man behind old-school Swiss luxury house Bally and new-school Los Angeles fashion line Rhude was born in the Philippines and raised in LA, where today you’re just as likely to find him power lunching at the Beverly Hills Hotel with a media executive as you are to find him courtside at a Lakers game with a Grammy-winning rapper. He designs clothes for musicians, writers, actors, F1 drivers - once you know to look for the signature “Rh” and bright yellow accents from his label Rhude, you’re going to start seeing them everywhere.

Went to high school with this guy and he was without a doubt born to do what he’s currently doing. Nice guy, no air of pretentiousness, and he was ALWAYS known as the fashion king of school even 12 years ago. This man was wearing his own custom clothes to school when the rest of us were going to Hot Topic. Glad to see someone from that school actually do something with their life! Rhuigi wishing you continued success. Cheers to you!
Lmao bro is a scammer and always has been
Lmao got em!
AP, Rolex, PP and RM. How refreshing. It’s nice to see a Talking Watches where the person has such unique tastes.
lol
I know, right on!
underrated comment
Except the opening blue dial DateJust, the rest is standard nouveau riche tasteless « let’s spend money on watches ».
Is this the clientèle that LVMH is steering Hodinkee towards ? 🤔
My thoughts exactly
Ed Sheeran, Reference Points and Talking Watches, all within 2 weeks of each other. Seems like Hodinkee is listening to its fanbase, at last!
Now they got us excited again, theyll take a year off before posting again 😭.
@@SteveJobIess yes, hopefully they will keep a healthy flow of good quality content coming. They need to find a balance between their commercial work and content creation.
Being a kid who grew up without, when you make the means, first you have to see what it's like to have everything, then you can decide what really matters to you. It's a journey. I'm excited to see this guy keep building.
You sure he grow up poor? His dad had luxury watches and cars
Bingo 🎯
One of the better talking watches to be fair. Seems like he legitimately loves watches, but more importantly loves all the watches he has! class.
what a joy!! at last!!! seeing one of your " kababayan" wearing an RM... proud moment
Mans is so chill, so thoughtful. Been a fan of Rhude for a while, and great to see him here.
also good to see SJP back in the fold.
Dress watch’s are the epitome of the watch world! Happy to see them coming back. Sport models are cool but dress watches are class!
As a longstanding fan of his brand I’m so glad to see Rhuigi get the recognition he deserves. What An inspiring story, timeless brand and flawless watch collection.
agree
Well done. It was nice to bring back SJ Pulvirent to conduct the interview. More power to Rhuigi Villaseñor, a kababayan and his awesome collection
Or did they just record it before he left?
Now we know how his selection grew so fast..
Nice to see my man Steven collaborating with Hodinkee again. Great collection 👏
I see Talking Watches, I click! The AP perpetual skeleton would be my pick here but overall a great selection!
That’s me when it comes to Swiss Watch Gang. 👍
Your watch interviews are better 👏👏👏
Loved how he brought up the RM watch but focused on the journey to obtain it vs the actual watch itself. It was so subtle yet luxurious at the same time. Amazing
Such a strong collection all with a story. Rhuigi representing for the 🇵🇭🇺🇸🙌🏽
He makes a point in the video about appreciating dress watches. That is very much my thing. Nothing against sports watches but I feel everybody jumps into them and dress watches get little love by comparison but as he states dress watches is really what started it all. Getting dressed up and wearing a nice dress watch or dressy watch.
Sports watches are still nice because it’s what ur gonna wear everyday if u haven’t got a job where the dress watch suits ur clothing . Also the prices for dress watches aren’t juiced up so u should be happy tbh .
@@cornmill6516 I'm not hating. Just giving credit it was pointed out. I am happy that dress/dressy watches are more affordable. With that said, I would wear a dressy watch as a daily watch. Obviously not for heavy work, but anything else yes.
@@planetdee3587 Yh I agree tbh I just don’t have a job suited for dress watches so it’s annoying
@@cornmill6516 I completely agree with you. That is why I try to wear my dressy pieces every time I am off. I love getting dresses up or casual dressed up when I am off and wear the watches that go with it. Not saying I have not worn a sports watch with a dressy/casual dressy look every now and then but I have a high dressy vs sporty ratio in my collection.
@@planetdee3587 p
Another great video, but I would love to see people with more affordable pieces in there collection. Also more pieces outside of Rolex, AP, and Patek. I'd love to see collectors with Grand Seiko, Cartier, and even Omegas would be nice.
I’m sorry but a majority are not interested in that so I disagree.
@@burritomaker69 Yep, same old same old. Yawn...
I just wrote the very same thing! Cheers to you!
I get and understand why most have the same watches, because they interview people with money. It is totally understandable. They need to interview regular people to see collections that have Seiko, Hamilton, Citizen and all the many watch brands the normal folk would own.
But people like to invest in watches that will hold their value Rolex,AP and Patek do that, the ones you mentioned generally don’t so you can’t blame them although I’m sure a lot of theses guys have Omegas and Grand Seikos
Great episode. Really nice to see Hodinkee feature a collector that is interested in different, lesser-known brands from those which we regularly see on Talking Watches.
All he talked about was Rolex, AP and Patek. Lesser known brands? Did we watch the same video? :)
@@Chris_BQ that fact might lead you to believe there was an element of sarcasm, no ?
@@Chris_BQ heavy sarcasm intended.
Oh haha ok my bad....i seem to have properly missed that... Sowwy ;)
The watches here are boring. Especially that fugly RM.
I guess his taste became worse. The Rolexes were good.
Would have been nice to see some Sinn, Lange and others. I knew that wasn't going to happen when i saw him wearing that cap though.
So proud of this true Fil-Am Creative!
Rhuigi says so little in so many words
Please Lord give us talking watches with Jay-Z 🤩
that would be a full length movie hahaha
Yeah but would he do it is the question? I mean it’s Jay Z he’s not easy to get
Great episode ....he is so humble and charismatic...and has the true love of what collecting watches really is...and great colkection....collection.... was not familiar with him or his brand but I know am learning....thank you! Hodinke....
Yeah what it’s all about seeing a music video and thinking that guy gets girls I want that watch. So shallow.
@@whatmemories3728 I mean, he was 9 years old when that video he was talking about came out. What did you want him to say?
just came out this guys been embezzling money from his company; using it to fund collections like this instead of paying his colleagues. kinda funny he made it to hodinkee.
Prass made it to Hodinkee as well. Twice! "Political...agendas..."
Wow a video about a rich dude who has blinged out Rollie’s, AP, Patek, RM…such a unique collection. Thank you Hodinker!
I think I could have correctly guessed 90% of his collection just based on his appearance.
@@Bwnunley320 you surprised that a rich guy has expensive watches
@@marcelohendrix6139 Nope. Rich people earned their money and can buy whatever they want. I just find these episodes less interesting when it’s a rich guy who went on a spree. I prefer the ones with folks who have rare watches they appreciate.
@@Bwnunley320 how did go on a spree when there’s a clear story of how it started & how it’s going? if he just splurged money he wouldn’t waste time with a date just or a two tone rolex
@@marcelohendrix6139 I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Not my favorite. I feel like if watches went away tomorrow, people like this would just go collect something else to fulfill that need. I prefer hearing about collections with more sentimental value.
You get a real sense of his taste evolving as you look at the watches.
Wow way to go kababayan! 🇵🇭
amazing! never heard of these brands! definitely learned something today about haute horlogerie!!!
I love how much effort hodinkee makes these days to talk about ......
"It was my b'day, so I bought me a Patek." Please keep sharing such awe-inspiring stories!
4 minutes in and I still don't know who he is..
Would be nice to have a little intro about the guest at the beginning of the vid.
What happens when all the watches are the same but the people are different? Might become just a Talking with people video.
I had to look up who this guy is and I’m impressed. Such an ambitious and knowledgeable guy. Hope he remains humble and grounded. Nice content Hodinkee.
AP, Rolex, RM… shocking!
A “Talking Watches II” with Paramico is just what the doctor ordered, hopefully soon.
Just a huge fan of Hodinkee. Great content, and it's refreshing to see a company made up of people who truly love the market segment they are in. Keep it up.
fav episode so far, I loved seeing Rhuigi's passion as he talked about each piece!
that was a great episode!
This hits home! 🇵🇭
need this one, been peeping Rhuigi's watches for a minute, nice to see this. good job
Real nice to see a self made man on his watch journey
Real nice collection and may both keep growing for you both your hobby and your business
Thank you
Least exciting episode yet.
The Nothing Lasts tattoo at 10:51 is fitting considering his allegations
For a guy who wants to bring attention to dress watches, his collection is definitely heading in a questionable direction
I would love to see Steve Hallock from tick-tocking on talking watches. His collection is very unique and he is definitely a true watch enthusiast. Tbh many of us are tired of seeing 20 piece rolex collections and nautiluses. He would be a breath of fresh air
Hes a watch dealer.
@@kaiserphoenix01 yes, his selections are great. Similar to A Collected Man but he handles more avant-garde style watches like Urwerk and Greubel Forsey
Nice to see a fellow Filipino in this channel!
This is a fun one ☝️ It’s nice to mix these in.
🇵🇭 Represent.
Reference points and new talking watches?!?! Is it my birthday or something ? What a way to kick off 2022 maybe we’ll have Ellen Degeneres on an episode soon
No thanks to Ellen
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 why not? She has some really rare and vintage pieces.
@@SteveFWatches terrible person. Wouldn't want her on Hodinkee
This is such a boring collection, everyone has Rolex, AP and PP. Do these guys buy their underwear in the same color as well?
Sounds like someone’s jealous
Who cares man those pieces are what they can afford.
@@dunkingstudios I am not jealous. But as a watcher of the channel, all I see is the same watches over and over again.
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 Sure, let them have what they can afford. But it's a bit tiring seeing the same type of collector over and over again.
@@diavalus so? Let people buy what they want. They don’t need a guy on UA-cam telling them what watch to buy
Swiss gang tops talking watches by a mile and a half!!!. You guys should check out their watch collection interviews. First thing to fix is the short video duration of most talking watches👌👌👌
My favorite is the Day-Date. Great interview, very enjoyable to watch.
Been waiting for this one
The 5990 🔥 well done
First like is from your favorite brand, Riddah!
What a cool humble guy.
Can we please please please please get an episode with John Malkovich !!
The Interviewer did a pretty god job on this one ! How they talk about the brand and the meaning of the watches is amazing ! Really good job :)
One of the best talking watches by far. Now you guys should bring Jakob Hetzer into the show. Rhuigi asked him to help with his brand when he had just started helping consulting different people/brands.
Finally, a Filipino American in Talking watches! Hodinkee, you should look at the collectors here in the Philippines!
Respect for what he's managed to achieve. Don't understand the collection or the clothing brand. But it's his collection not mine.
I thought Stephen left Hodinkee?
Stanning collection, that Daytona is a beauty.
Incredible collection
Great guy, great video!
Beautiful Ruigi watch collection, I like the Rolex mother of pearl Daytona, the Rolex Pearl Master and the Two Patek Nautilus, and the two Audemars Piguet.
Such a great guest and a great video!!
Cool dude, the last AP Perpetual suits him great 👍
Bueeena, obviamente el reloj va con la ropa que llevas, muy importante hacer una perfecta combinación 😌👌
More talking watches please
The phrase Money for old rope springs to mind
Very nice episode! Anyone that happens to know the reference number of the turquoise day date? Absolute stunner!
A surprising Talking Watches. Extremely broadening and enjoyable.
Thanks, Steven
Anyone know the model # for that date just(?) @ 1:19 ?
HE s Cool , Love to see sombody with an own style
Great collection buddy!!
This man has a good tase in watches definitely
I remember buying all 3 colors of the bandana tee when they came out. happy for the dudes succsess
Stunning modern collection
Another great video, but i wished Hodinkee can also include interviews with common people like you and me. You know, people who cant even dream of getting a DayDate, have no chance of being allocated a RM/PP/AP/Rolex. People who get the mid-tier brands like Omega, Tissots, Cartiers and have a story of telling us s/he spent years saving up just to purchase a Rolex on secondary market.
Anyone knows the exact name of that hat he’s wearing? I’m trying to find it
Is Stephen back or was this recorded before he left Hodinkee?
Meeh episode. Dont know anything. Dont have any stories. Just a rich fellow
favorite one yet
Great video. Nice to hear the stories behind his watches
What age is this person ?
This man has a very unique and well rounded collection
Rolex, AP and Patek? Never heard of those brands. Nice to see him focusing on rarity pieces.
This guy isn’t even 30 yet and has amassed a beautiful collection while still being humble enough to admit he’s still learning. You? A nobody being smug in the comments while revealing you’re a just a petty crumb.
Congrats. You’re *that* guy
great guest! great episode!
When i see a collection with only Rolex, AP and PP then i have an opinion about the collector. Wonderful brands but he chooses all the hyped up popular models. He probably doesnt know about Blancpain, Chopard, A Lange Sohne etc. There much more horology outside the Rolex, AP and PP.
Boring collection tbh
this is the best talking watches ever done thank you for sharing. amazing.
U joking right ?
Nothing against the man but this is a rather dull collection.
No idea who this guy is but cool watch collection 👍 that AP PC is sweet
Great video! Do JERRY SEINFELD next, big breitling guy
I can see him wearing a A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk. Somehow it fits to him.
Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek - Rolex - AP - Patek
-It's sad to see this focus on the same brands over and over again... 🥱
No idea who this guy is but he has the money to buy expensive watches and he'd like to continue purchasing more expensive watches in the future. That's about all I walked away from this with. No offense but kind of a boring dude without much to say beyond, "Yea, I have this one...I like it."
Enough with the superstars with watches. It’s low hanging fruit and very unintellectual. Try to find long-time collectors of watches and let’s get back into the nuts and bolts of why a new collector would want to get into the hobby. All I ever see out of Hodinkee are blingy references that 99% of the viewers wouldn’t touch, even if they had the funds. I’ve spoken to many of my fellow watch collectors who used to enjoy your talking watches episodes and now we all think you’re just phoning it in. My score: F
Yes, it started with John Mayer. All he had was Daytonas in his second episode. You surely agree right?
Just another dude with Rolex / AP / RM / PP. There's no 'talking watches', just showing off, super boring.
@@planetdee3587 tbh John at least understands the significance of each piece and has a slew of other brands in his collection
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 I disagree to think one is any different than the other. I think everybody has a starting point. John has a ton of Daytonas. Regardless what else he may have, he has like nearly or more than 10 of them. It is no different other than what we want to see. I see nothing wrong with this guy and the way he collects. Most people who would go from having no watches to having watches would probably do the same (not watch people but the general person). But I feel everytime there is a particular type of entertainer, people will knock his choice in watches and his knowledge of it all (even though people purchased based on your own personal feelings) while with other entertainers they get a pass. It is really all the same thing. And just because John has 1 or 2 watches a person might seem as down to earth, 10 Daytonas speaks otherwise. How many people in the watch community start with their first luxury watch as a Rolex or Omega? It is the same thing just on a lower level. Half the watch community would buy a PP or AP if they had the money and probably more than one. Culturally I feel watch people have a greater issue with it when it is done by a certain type of person.
I like Rhuigi, and I’m happy to hear about his tastes and see his collection.
You gotta do a Talking Watches with Guy Laliberte (the Cirque du Solei owner and poker player), he has some nice pieces.
Who dat?
Before I even watch this, let me guess - Rolexes, Royal Oaks and Nautiluses. Maybe I'll be surprised by some extra special Richard Mille or maybe some custom, blinged out Hublot? Would I be crazy to think there was a Vacheron Constantin or a Lange in there? 1 gets you 10 that there probably isn't.
oh yeah, so annoying to see the same brands (Rolex, AP, PP) in basically every collection. Wow, you have some form of complication Nautilus? Thats like...every other guy on this show.
Great stories. Inspiring entrepreneur. High end watches but boring collection to be shown on TW.
