Phil and Sam, You will actually be surprised how many big Fleetwood Mac _hits_ were written and sung by Christine McVie. It wasn't just Stevie and Lindsey that were putting out the mega hits for the band. Examples of other hits written or cowritten by and featuring lead vocals by Christine: "You Make Loving Fun", "Say You Love Me", "Over My Head", "Little Lies", "Everywhere", "World Turning" "Hold Me" and "Don't Stop" (those last 3 songs are co-lead vocals by Lindsey and Christine)
@@michaelasay8587 Christine McVie has contributed more songs to Fleetwood Mac than Stevie Nicks or Lindsey Buckingham....up to her initial retirement. Far more, as she pre-dates them in the group by five years.
This is the one that gave her the nickname "Songbird". She and it are synonymous with each other for everyone who loves FM. Did you notice that there wasn't a single sound from the crowd, not even a cough to interrupt? The fans love and respect her, and the song, so much that NOBODY even tries to sing along. The crowd is mesmerized. RIP Christine, you are sorely missed. May you find the peace that was so elusive in life.
Mick Fleetwood & Stevie Nicks both emphasize that Fleetwood Mac ended the day Christine died. Also....what most Mac fans don't realize is that the majority of their hits were written by Christine. (Usually their most "positive" messages, too) "Don't Stop" ua-cam.com/video/QV9JJmSCiI8/v-deo.html "You Make Lovin Fun" ua-cam.com/video/ZsDJLaqw5Tc/v-deo.html
When FM were looking for a new guitarist, Mick Fleetwood asked Lindsay to join. He said not without his female partner Stevie. They were a package. The group went to Christine to see how she felt about another female in the group. She gave the blessing..and on they went.
She was such a beautiful lady. The most understated remarkable talent we all had the joy to know, for all of our lives. Magnifico! Magnifico! God bless you Christine McVie x 🥰
Mick Fleetwood said it best (paraphrasing from memory): last encore of the night, Chris would go out onstage with just her piano and break every heart in the place. Truer words were never spoken. I was privileged to witness her perform this twice, and both times I would swear that there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Fly on Songbird, you will be greatly missed.
RIP Christine! Most people start by listening to Fleetwood Mac songs with Stevie Nicks on the main vocal and Christine McVie / Lindsay Buckingham contributing the backing vocal harmonies. However, Christine is responsible for writing many of the group's biggest hits and her lead vocal is every bit as much a part of their signature sound as is Stevie's or Lindsay's. Rumours is considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time but they have many other wonderful albums including the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album, 1987's Tango in the Night, etc. Lots more to explore. Enjoy the journey!
Many people focus on Stevie Nicks and rightly so however Christine McVie was just as important a part of the group as anyone. She wrote many of their hits and besides the two founders, she was the longest tenured member of the group. The “classic” lineup of Fleetwood Mac (the one with all the hits) was Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie (formerly Christine Perfect), Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Christine, Lindsay and Stevie were the writers and singers. The hits that Christine wrote for the group include: Over My Head, Say You Love Me, Don’t Stop, You Make Loving Fun, Think About Me, Hold Me, Love In Store, Little Lies, Everywhere. Save Me. Songbird was the B side of the Stevie song Dreams but it was very popular. Of course there were also many other great album only songs like Oh Daddy
She was the only member Buckingham respected musically, and the only one who could push back when he was getting overbearing. She was also the one who could get the rest of the band to accept that he was right and to follow his lead.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yeah, didn't she slap Lindsey Buckingham in the face once...on tour in Australia...after he was horrible to Stevie Nicks on stage during a performance????
Her death hit me a lot harder than I ever thought it would. Having been a fan since 1975 when I was nine, it got me where it hurt. She was my favorite with that unmistakable voice, beauty, class, talent and grace. RIP Good choice today
Christine McVie is definitely the unsung hero of Fleetwood Mac, she was there before Lindsay and Stevie, and she has actually fronted more songs than any other member, she was an amazing musician and RIP to the Song Bird.

My family moved to San Francisco from the UK in 1967 and saw Fleetwood Mac a few times when Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer were both part of the band. I saw Christine McVie at Fillmore West when she first joined the group and recognized her as Christine Perfect from the British blues band Chicken Shack.

"Hold Me" is another good one with Christine. She was just as talented as Stevie. What can you say about Fleetwood Mac, they were fire throughout the 70's and the most popular group, we couldn't get enough.
The band had 3 lead singers and 3 composers in this incarnation. And they worked together to make something far more than the sum of their parts. Christine actually had as many or more hits than did Stevie and Lindsey combined. She was affectionately known as the queen of hooks. As in musical and/or lyrical "hooks" that grab the listener and pulls them in. See: Say You Love Me; Little Lies; Warm Ways; Everywhere; You Make Loving Fun; As Long as You Follow, and so on. And yes she was "Angelic" and is with the Angels now.
